  • Keep politics out. We are adults, news happens, and we can talk about it. What we don’t want is to go down the rabbit holes and turn a productive conversation into name calling and personal attacks.
  • Be cool to one another. Like it says above, just be civil. You don’t need to agree with everyone and that’s fine, you also don’t need to make it personal. Attack the argument not the poster.
  • Keep the NSFW to a minimum. We don’t need anyone getting in trouble at work for hanging out here.
  • All in all, be adults. Treat each other with respect and things will be fine. Mods will take out content they feel is pushing the boundary. If you want to reach out about something feel free to ask. We want to have robust discussions, that’s why we’re here. Just be civil and cool to one another.

Looks like a beautiful day on tap here on Hemlock Lake near Birchwood, WI.
About 70 today. Might get a round of golf in.

No wifi or cell service unless I walk a quarter mile to the nearest rd. So Iโ€™m a committed Skoloholic.

Have a great weekend.
Back to my hole.

Last year, the Twins sucked, but they were leading their division.

This year, theyโ€™re better, yet theyโ€™re behind Cleveland.

Don’t know if Cleveland is better or if they just got off to a fast start the same way the Twinkies got off to a slow one.

Good thing they have about 140+ games left to work it out.

I needed gas for my lawn mower so I did that right after lunch. Then I figured I should go ahead and mow. 15 minutes in, I shredded a belt. Called the John Deere place to make sure they had a belt. I told them the wrong belt. I realized that after I already started driving to get the belt. I turned around to verify what belt I needed. Called JD back to make sure they had the belt. 1 hour round trip to get the belt. Needless to say, the afternoon was wasted. I did get to mow for about an hour before it started raining, so there is that I guess.

Idahome has grass but with the homeowners association we have needed to have gardners.

Well we picked my sister up from the airport. So far so good. She is quite frail and can’t move very well. Can take about a dozen steps before she has to rest. Took a while to get her from the car to the living room, to her bedroom. She’s resting comfortably now. The adventure begins.

Glad you have family you are close enough with to take in.
The ones I feel comfortable having in my home don’t need it.
The others I don’t want anywhere near me are the ones that need it.

I understand. We started out with my parents and six kids (yes, Catholics) and now it’s just my oldest sister, myself, and my younger brother. Everyone else is gone. My sister is not in good health, so I don’t know how many years she has left. I just want to be sure she is safe, and as comfortable as possible.

After our cereal discussion I had a hankering for my personal fav, Life Cereal.
Walked by the cereal isle today and hung strong, did not get any as I seldom eat cereal now days.

Then just before the check out there was a box on the Clearance Shelf because it had one dented corner, Took it as a sign.

Snacked in it on the way home and now it is in the ‘snack drawer’. You guys are a bad influence.

Right, the division is way too strong even on a per state basis, let alone at the national level. Its a lot to ask.

I really liked Romney… until he bent over and cowed down to the RNC on stances that made him more of a moderate and make him seem like he had his own thoughts, opinions and gumption, same thing for McCain but both just bent over and took it in the ass.

Well, we’ll just have to disagree. Biden to me is by far the very worst of all.
Romney and McCain’s problems were that they waffled all the time. For example, if McCain’s last run fofr Senate, he ran on appealing Obamacare – central theme of his campaign. Then when the party needed just one vote to repeal it, he casted the deciding vote to keep.

I was reading the Amazon seller blog today and another seller mentioned how they were taken advantage of by someone that knew how to play the rules of Amazon. Another person mentioned that there is a person (just one of many) that has a video on some social media outlet that explains how to get a free refund from Amazon and the person in the video is laughing about it the whole time.

My question: What kind of justification do you have that allows you to steal? If the company is big enough and you don’t like the leader or founder? If you think you are being taken advantage of by a company? If you feel like you are entitled? If you feel like you can get away with it? If you feel like the company is making too much money?

What the person in the video fails to either know or care about is that there are many third party sellers on Amazon and a big chunk of those are small mom and pop operations. The sellers are under the thumb of Amazon’s rules and must abide by their very lax refund policies. So if you are unaware, like many Amazon shoppers, you may very well be stealing from some small mom and pop shop instead of Amazon. Would that make any difference to you?

Nah, I am the most important person in the world.

We did have a recent experience with returning an item that was damaged in shipping. It was a big unwieldy and awkward window blind. When you put in a request for a return, they (as I’m sure you know) send you a barcode to put on the box and then you can run it to UPS. Before you can do that, though, you get to strip all these labels on a POS 5 foot long six inch wide cardboard box that has previously gotten wet…all of this and then the return address says it’s going to College Station, TX, where some HS diploma dude is going to snap bubble gum while he tosses it into a big dumpster. My wife was worried the new one would also be damaged and suggested just stuffing some junk and paper in the box, how likely would it be that they would check? Not a bad thought.

As of today, Amazon still hasn’t officially given us credit for the return sent a month ago even though the UPS tracker shows delivery.

VikingPhilip
Reply to  MT Viking
10 May 2024 12:43 pm

I’m very surprised you haven’t gotten the refund. For most of us selling on Amazon, Amazon take the refund out of our money as soon as the first scan of the return package is recorded. If we get back a bag of garbage, then we have to fight with Amazon to get our money back.

MT Viking
Reply to  VikingPhilip
10 May 2024 1:03 pm

I should clarify we requested a replacement window blind which was ordered, and received (yesterday) at no cost to us. The fine print says that if we “fail to return the original order by May 19 Amazon will charge your account for the product”, ie we would end up paying for two blinds.

I get triggered by the FB posts where people complain about the local hospital (ubiquitous everywhere I have lived) and come up with some thing (in the case of GMC it is the billing department, a popular scapegoat) that leads to the oft repeated quote, “they’re a bunch of crooks hate going there I go to such and such facility up the road unless it’s an emergency, I tell them when I go in with my six hours of bowel cramps that I think they are a bunch of ding dongs and they just need to give me the medication I tell them always works for me.”

Well boys the local hospital closed up shop. You get to drive 70 miles with your ruptured appendix.

QotD

Cousins will win the SB this year.

Behind the startling play of the QB tandem of Darnold and the sizzling rookie JJ McCarthy, as well as the stingiest defense in the league, the Vikings will roar to 17-0 and a #1 spot in the NFC. Atlanta will limp into the playoffs with a 7-10 record, tops in the NFC South.

Wild card round Atlanta will stun the 12-5 Cowboys with a last minute fumble six to win 12-10.

Divisional round Vikings will continue their winning ways by defeating SF. Atlanta will again pull off an improbable win on the road against Philadelphia on a controversial non OPI call late in the 4th.

Everyone will be tuning in for the NFCCG game rematch in Minny between Atlanta and the red hot Vikings.

Cousins will stiff arm Turner during a scramblerooski in the first quarter to put him out of the game with torticollosis. Cousins will play the game of his life extending drives with pinpoint passes while getting hit like a redheaded stepchild on multiple possessions, including a miraculous completion on 4th and 19.

Atlanta will get the lead by one point with one minute left. Minnesota with all three timeouts will drive to the Atlanta 10. With ten seconds left in the game JJ will inexplicably throw the ball away, missing a wide open JJ in the back corner of the end zone.

Out comes the Vikings placekicker to seal the NFC win…

Well, sort of. At heart, Harbaugh is a quarterbacks coach with a West Coast passing game. At Stanford, and Michigan, he relied on concepts with horizontal and vertical stretches to create clear, easy reads for his signal caller. Many of these concepts require a great receiver at the Y position BTW, but unlike at many other National programs, Harbaugh’s system doesn’t allow him to just move a good receiver inside.

Why? Because you can’t go toe-to-toe with a loaded box if you put three or four receivers on the field. Harbaugh used spread sets, but he always used tight ends, H-backs, fullbacks, or wing-backs so he could run the ball.

Harbaugh’s offense featured a brutal running game of the sort that even SEC programs dreamt of fielding.

So while folks say Michigan ran a “pro-set” offense, it was nothing like the KOC offense in any way, shape or form. Michigan simply beat opponents to death with their running game, and ran simple pass route combinations that were easy on a QB to execute.

I guess I was thinking more about the fact that he has ran a huddle and regularly took snaps from under center. While that can be learned, Stroud even said that after Fields he specifically asked to play more like that at Ohio State and said it greatly helped him. Too many college offenses use the play cards crap. Obviously that is changing now and I think it is going to increase how fast rookie QBs can be successful in the NFL in the future.

I’m not sold. He could be an issue, but his mental makeup is still a question to me along with how his game will transfer to the NFL. I haven’t seen enough of him showing he can stand in the pocket and run an NFL style offense. Maybe he can, but thus far, he has thrived on the off schedule stuff and when he was at his best, he benefited from very good WRs (Addison).

We’ve had to put up with Favre and Rodgers and have still managed to make the NFC Championship Game a few times. All that without having a long term, stud QB. JJ hits, it’s going to be a fun rivalry. The Bengals don’t worry about Lamar or vice versa. They have their guy and the rivalry is entertaining and they both have a chance. I could live with playing the Bears, in MN of course, in the playoffs while the Lions and Packers sit at home.

Lions and Packers are real and only getting stronger. Packers are young and Lions have a lot of talent.
And then the Bears – some analysts ( know BS artists) think they might contend for playoffs this year.
Want to win a SB. WC is too tough – need to win the division.

Yeah, but if you build the best team in the NFL, then you are the best team in your division. Be the best and make everybody worry about you. They can be good, fine. The Vikings just need to be better and how good the Vikings are is not really affected by how good the other teams in the division are. The Bears for example being good, does not mean the Vikings can’t be great.

Yeah, weird things can happen in the regular season. I stopped giving too much weight to good wins and bad loses in the regular season. Good wins and bad losses happen to everyone. The regular season is all about entertainment and hitting a W number to make the playoffs. For example, we beat the 49ers last year.

Okay…it didn’t stop them from making the Super Bowl, and it didn’t help us to make the Super Bowl. It was just a regular season game.

And neither team is built for a SB right now. The Vikings offensive weapons are better than the Falcons and at best the defenses are even. I’d lean towards the Vikings there too, but they are both lacking. The additional cap space the Vikings are going to have in 2025 will allow them to buy some pieces on the defense and have a contender next year if JJ works out. As of now, the Vikings are far ahead on the head coach as well since Atlanta’s is new. He could be good, but plenty of young HCs have been in over their head. If he turns out to be one like Staley and others, by the time they or he figures it out, Kirk will be gone.

I see it the same way Bow. The Vikings (at this point) are far ahead of the Falcons because they are going into their third year with the same offense (regardless of QB) and head coach. Their DC is also proven, and we did see some defensive improvements last year. The Falcons on the other hand have a new HC who has not been successful in prior attempts to lead a team, and both a rookie OC and DC. There will be a significant learning curve there, across the board. I still expect Cousins to play well, but I’m not sold on the Falcons being great this year. I think their GM is a moron.

All of which makes me wonder why they chose to pay a lot of money to a veteran QB. If they were honest with themselves and realize they are a couple of years away at best, wouldn’t only drafting Penix been the way to go? Especially since they drafted Penix anyway? If Penix turns out to be worth the 8th overall pick, then I think they would have been better suited to playing Penix earlier and keeping the cap space to put more pieces around him in the next couple years. I think what got them has been the total lack of a competent QB since Matty Ice and they overcompensated.

With the projected cap space they have in the future, they pay Jets. If they were going to trade him they would have already so they could draft somebody this year. He’s the face of the franchise right now. You don’t move that guy when you’re trying to get the fan base behind your new QB, which is another reason to keep the best WR in the NFL. Move Jets and then Addison goes down, you’re putting JJ in a situation almost as bad as the Pats are putting Maye into.

Jets seems more concerned with winning than being the center of attention that Diggs did. Plus, Diggs had to deal with a defensive HC I don’t think he liked. The last couple of years he’s been stuck in small market western NY which would have been fine if they made a SB, but they didn’t so he doesn’t get the media attention he wants and no ring to make up for it.

Oh I understand the move to bring Cousins in. They have had three years of losing seasons, and mostly due to a lack of a good QB. The Falcons are instantly better on offense now and I do expect them to be at the very least, competitive for the first time in many years. Also, I do see the logic in bringing Penix in, but they passed on taking both Dallas Turner and Jer’Zhan Newton. Two total impact players that could have helped their defense immensely.

I understand them making both moves individually, but with the length of the contract they gave Kirk, the moves do not make sense together other than over compensation for the failures of the past. Especially like you said they could have drafted an instant impact defensive player. They’ve been lacking a pass rush for longer than they have a QB. It’s rational if you put yourselves in their shoes and their feelings. Been in QB hell for a few years and owner has said that is not going to happen again. At same time, they believe with solid QB play they will win the division. And most of the betting world agrees with this.
They (fans, owners and all ) are thrilled with the idea of winning division and playing in the playoffs. We are different – we are after SB’s. Different place on the food chain.
so they can win the division with Cousins, maybe for two years, and then have Penix ready to go for the long term

Yes, the Falcons front office thinks “they’re set” at the QB position for the next ten years. I always worry about betting the farm on any rookie QB though.

they can treat the situation like Packers did with Love. I’m fine with that.
and seems there’s a local team betting some on a rookie QB working out – name of the game.

Shoot this is like betting on whether it’s going to be raining 68 days from today.
Just from age, you’d have to bet on JJ. But, middle of next season, Purdy goes down and Niners trade for Cousins, and they go to SB.
Lot of water to go under the bridge.

One of the jewelry stores here does a deal every year for Christmas that any jewelry purchased for the month or two leading up to it will be heavily refunded if something like 3 inches of snow falls on Christmas day.

I looked at their Facebook page and last year it was if it snowed 2 inches on Christmas day, everybody who purchased jewelry from December 1-24 was in a drawing for a new Mercedes and a bunch of free jewelry. I think in the past it’s been you get like 50% off your purchase if it snows 2 inches.

Ya know, the Trump “hush money” trial is really puzzling. The prosecution is twisting up an “affair” with all sorts of salacious commentary from their witnesses in an effort to prove Trump falsified business records related to alleged hush money payments, and he did so in furtherance of another crime โ€” conspiracy to promote or prevent election, which would be a felony.

However, on their own, falsifying business records and conspiracy to promote or prevent election are misdemeanor charges. Not sure how by combining two misdemeanors, you somehow get a felony.

pffftttt hahahaha. You guys are so damn funny sometimes when you drive into Victimville. White Republican Millionaires have it so rough in this country, damn they just can’t catch a break. I forgot all or most Republican’s are being prosecuted right simply because they are Republican… or is that just some unsubstantiated victim mentality comment? Trump is a shady fucking character he is. That’d be like Biden on trial and saying it’s because he’s a dem, what a joke that would be too. He’s as crooked as anyone, but I assume if he ever was on Trial it might be the funniest shit ever because they might claim he’s not mentally fit enough to stand trial lol.

Actually Edge, conservatives are being massively attacked daily by the media and of course the Democrats. The amount of misinformation being presented is staggering to say the least. You can pretend it isn’t so, and proclaim it all you want, but it’s you that is falling for the lies of left.

Edgecrusher71

I’m only falling for the truth instead of being victim. Both sides are very guilty of media spin. I would agree network news is more attacking and biased to the left absolutely, but they learned how to do this from Fox in the 2000s… I am sure you were really upset about Fox doing it back then right? I bet not. That’s what makes me laugh. 99% of people who say they hate what’s happening in the media only hate that their side is losing in the war not the tactics themselves. The Pubs only have themselves to blame that the tactics made famous by their own side that they supported is now being used against them. That is partly why I don’t buy into the victim mentality BOTH sides have. You ask a Dem it’s their side being attacked all the time. Both victim mentalities are gross to me.

Hardly.
There has been an unwritten rule in politics for years – former presidents are pretty off grounds. Imagine if the IRS ever looked at the books of the Clinton Foundation?
Now I don’t believe any one is above the law. But if you are going to go after a former President, it needs to be really solid – murder or stealing a billion dollars or something. Hardly some. ‘novel twist’ of the law or the RICO Laws in Georgia. This crap should not even be applied against any “ordinary” citizen let alone a former politician.
And yes, if the Republicans did. tis to a former Democrat President I would be equally outraged.

Looking forward to rookie camp. I expect a couple videos showing the new guys doing something useful.

The anticipation for the preseason is building. I am looking forward to seeing how long it takes for JJ to be considered “NFL Ready” and what that means for KoC.

Still thinking Thanksgiving before he starts. And, while expectations are tempered with the changes at QB, the defense has added enough talent to make things rough for opponents.

I still see a Wildcard as a possibility this season.

I agree we still could have a good enough season to get into the playoffs. The rookie hype train will definitely continue to build up steam over the next 4 months. We’ll see plenty of video’s of JJ and Dallas, (usually in slow motion) highlighting their immense talent. I do hope they become great NFL players for us, and have long careers. That said, they have a lot to learn.

If that’s the case – ‘present’- why bring him in at 10 mil. Just play Mullens until JJ is ready and then put him in.

With Cousins moving on, the team had to bring in a vet with at least some level of credibility to sell to the fans. Paying Darnold $10M solidified the messaging that the team was bringing in a competent starter. Got to sell tickets, and promote the team as competitive.

Messaging is nice, winning football games is better – as I’m sure you know.
And as you know, at the beginning of the season Mullens may well be the only QB on the team capable of running ‘our offense.”

“There’s gonna be a huge loss,” Phillips said on “NFL Total Access” Wednesday. “Kirk Cousins as a person, as a leader, as a teammate, that’s a big void in your locker room. One of the most humble guys that I’ve ever been around. Servant leader, just a great motivator. He’s great. To ask one person to fill that void is probably not probable.”

Mullens knows the offense, but he’s no Kirk Cousins. The fact is, there’s no one currently on the team who is capable of replacing Cousins’ talent and leadership. We can only hope they make up for his loss with the defense and running game, and the emergence of a bunch of new leaders.

A great leader with a positive attitude. Anyone who has met McCarthy or has been around him any length of time realizes heโ€™s a rare breed of human. He has a naturally infectious energy, but not only that, heโ€™s a gamer who loves football and will do whatever it takes to win.

Phillips’ comment was about leadership qualities which nobody has questioned from Kirk and none of JJ’s coaches or teammates have said anything about him being anything less than an exemplary leader who guys want to go to battle for. Losing a long term veteran presence is always a big change, but it happens every year in the NFL on every team. When Harry finally retires, it will be the same thing on the defensive side of the ball.

โ€œYou can have all the different attributes, which Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen do. So does JJ. But they also have that willingness to do anything for their teammates,โ€ Jim Harbaugh continued. โ€œAnd, because of that, their teammates and their coaches, like me, would follow him anywhere. I recommend that anybody on the team follow JJ anywhere he goes, anywhere that heโ€™s leading.โ€

This is simply about JJ as a person and the fact that everybody he has ever been around say he is a great dude and a natural leader. You’re projecting and assuming things again that have not been said. based on everything said about him by coaches and teammates, he will naturally step into the leadership role just fine. We’ll see about the physical output on the field.

I have also heard plenty of good things about Darnold’s personality and leadership traits. Also, if you don’t get the QB you wanted in the draft, you would be looking at possibly two years of Mullens running the show. Darnold was a safety net from the minute they signed him.

Yep, this. Exactly this. Plus, 10 mill is a pretty cheap backup contract these days and I would have been happy with that even if they were set at QB. Something around 65 QBs have started a game each of the last 2 seasons. That’s starts, not seen the field. You have to have a good backup plan. You want a guy that you feel confident can come in for 4 games and win at least 2.

Maye was probably choice 1 (mostly because of McCown). I think JJ was 2 and they would have been happy with Penix. I think Maye is going to be a major bust. I wasn’t overly sold on him to the Vikings, but the total crap show he is walking into in NE is going to be tough to overcome.
