Vikings Discussion & Random Thoughts
Vikings vs. Ravens
Wow, yesterday’s game was not a lot of fun to watch. The Vikings started out looking great. The defense forced a 3 and out, the offense got the ball and marched down the field for a touchdown. The D held the Ravens to a field goal, then the offense marched down the field and got a field goal of their own. Then…….the wheels came loose and continued getting looser throughout the game. I’m not sure when the wheels fell off completely, but it happened at some point.
I think the Vikings were just flagged for a false start…….again. Eight #*$#%* false start penalties yesterday. At home. That’s comically bad. There were three turnovers on the day, two interceptions by McCarthy (KOC) and a fumble by Price on a return. You ain’t beating the Ravens playing like that. On the bright side, those who stare at stat sheets should be happy that McCarthy threw for almost 250 yards.
It wasn’t all bad. Jalen Nailor showed up to play, and I wish that McCarthy would have looked his way more often.
Offensive Play Calling
The offensive play calling was comically bad as well. I mean, the running game was rattling off 6.7 yards per carry, yet when the Vikings got to 3rd and 1, we decide to throw a deep ball to Justin Jefferson, who seemed to playing at less than 100%. The Vikings didn’t just do that once, I stopped counting how many times they called a passing play in situations where it was obviously time to run the ball…….and it failed…..miserably. KOC did NOT put McCarthy and the Vikings offense in a position to succeed often enough. It was a very poorly called game, in my opinion.
Defense
The defense showed up yesterday, and they did all they could to keep the Vikings in it, despite the Vikings’ clown show offensive performance. In the end, they couldn’t do enough to overcome the offensive blunders, and the Vikings lost the game. This loss was NOT on the defense, they did their jobs.
Looking Ahead
If the offense is going to look like they did yesterday, we can start talking about the draft. If they can pull their heads out and start playing football, the season is not lost. There is no clear powerhouse in the NFL this year, and the Vikings still have four divisional games remaining, including two against the Packers. Kevin O’Connell needs to learn how to run a balanced offense, he’s one-dimensional and too easy to game plan against right now. Even though he has two very good running backs available, he refuses to use them. I don’t get it.
Random Thoughts
Kiddo and I were in a back and forth battle in our fantasy league yesterday. He started off strong while my team did nothing, and he had a 92% chance of winning after the noon games. By 4:00, his chances were down to 65% after Gibbs went nuts for my team, then it came down to Jaylen Warren. He scored just enough to give me a very narrow victory, I won by 1.30 points. Also, kiddo and I baked cookies, and they were YUMMY. I say they “were yummy” because I’m guessing that by the time you’re reading this, there will be none left.

- Keep politics to a minimum. We are adults, news happens, and we can talk about it. What we don’t want is to go down rabbit holes and turn a productive conversation into name calling and personal attacks.
- Be respectful and civil. You don’t need to agree with everyone, you also don’t need to make it personal. Attack the argument, not the poster.
- Keep the NSFW language/pictures to a minimum. We don’t want anyone getting in trouble at work for hanging out here.
- To summarize, behave like adults. Treat each other with respect, and things will be fine. Mods will take out content they feel is pushing the boundary. If you want to reach out about something, please do. We want to have robust discussions, that’s why we’re here, just be civil.

Thanks for the new thread.
I always enjoy these
Do you remember?
look at that offensive lineeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Believe it was 3rd and 1 play call too.
It appears to say 1st and 10 at the bottom of the screen
Laughing…
We have been hearing for like three years now ole Kev wants to run the ball more. His playcalls suggest he doesn’t really mean it.
He keeps saying that, in addition to that he’s going to learn from his mistakes, but he never seems to do so. At what point do you just call him a liar, or assume he’s incapable of learning from his mistakes and get rid of him?
Addictions are hard to break.
Either way, he isn’t cutting it. I feel with him the way some people felt about Cousins: We aren’t winning the big one (or maybe even more than 1 playoff game) with KOC.
Daboll is available.
I think he just says “I’ll run the next one” and “I can run it anytime I want to”.
Lol
My answer to the James Bond problem mentioned below.
Told my wife this as we left the last movie and she said that’s it – I said nope, the next one will start with a guy laying in a hospital bed wrapped in bandages from over 25 operations. Doctor will come in, unwrap his face and say how are you feeling Mr Bond.
Then they will go back ikn time and show Bond crawling under a rock just as the blast goes off, and later a rescue team will find him.
Well it’s hollywood, so anything is possible.
I prefer the Ion Bond solution as detailed below.
As long as they find a good, young, Bond Jr of course.
Not like the ‘Young Indy’ that they came up with.
Either will work, but please no black female Bond.
Well don’t want a white female Bond either. It has to be a man, and no trans guy either.
Spying is a macho business.
Well since we’re at it, and given the day, no women as 11bravos either.
If she could do the job physically I could see it, but housing/bathing/etc would be a separate issue so no.
How about a trans woman? I mean, it’s really a guy soooo.
Agreed. Bond HAS to be a white male. I’ll boycott the shit out of anything else.
Women are way different these days…haven’t you watched any Hollywood specials lately? Typical protagonist is a petite 115 pound woman with breast implants, gets into a brawl with a 250 pound roided out MMA specialist, absorbs punches that sound like they would eviscerate a hog, gets slammed into a brick wall full force with a little grunt, trades punches that gradually weaken the behemoth while having little effect on the protagonist, and ultimately tosses him over her hip with a judo move to impale him on a steel pipe. So women are much tougher these days in Hollywood.
As long as they have a ‘script to follow’ during actual combat they will be all good.
I was always negative on the women in combat thing. We sleep in tents or on the bare ground, shit in 55 gallon drums, and fight bad guys who want to kill us. It’s physical, dirty, and ugly work. No place for women.
For sure, have seen some rough looking women around.
But part of Bond was the sex and beautiful women. If we have a female Bond, is she going to seduce a handsome guy and take him to her room. And also have a film full of beautiful men.
This is a great point. Probably have to have a Lesbian Bond, to keep the “Bond girl” gig going.
Yeah, to me Connery set the standard as Bond. Just a great mix of masculinity and style, blended with a sense of humor and one liners. Craig grew on me as Bond. Didn’t see him as a great choice initially, but I liked the darker character he brought to the role.
Thanks for your career of service.
When I joined they were pushing ‘It is not just a job it’s an adventure’.
I tried to look at it that way and for the most part it made my military career more interesting.
And Thank you for your service as well.
I have an appreciation for all veterans but especially so for career guys like you and NLV. Having grown up in a military family really understand all the sacrifices guys as well as their families make.
Toughest job in the world… military spouse.
I was laying in a bed in Landstuhl after a second operation to save my life, and got to call my wife. She was crying as she found out I had survived a second helicopter crash and made it through surgery. All I could say was “I’m sorry for putting you through this”. She said “When you get home I’m going to kill you.”
“When you get home I’m going to kill you.”
Epic response.
I was reading to The Teacher the list of free meals available to Vets today. Some of those included Military Wives, she said ‘I don’t deserve one, I didn’t meet you until after you retired’. I told her she still had to put up with me and my military habits. She didn’t buy it. #grin
Yeah, I like the idea of spouses getting their just rewards. And I agree, putting up with us after the fact can be just as trying.
When I joined it was “be all that can be, in the army”
Thank you SoCal. We have lots of memories of our service. We devoted our lives to our country at some point, and that is something to be proud of.
“A veteran is someone who, at one point in their life wrote a blank check made payable to The United States of America, for an amount up to and including their life.”
Amen
Amen.
I am wondering if everyone that was unhappy with the call on 3rd and 1, to go to Jettas deep, would still be upset if Jettas catches it?
Are you kidding? If it works great call, if it fails crappy call.
We are fans after all.
That’s kind of what I am getting at. Are we really mad about the call or are we mad it didn’t pan out. Even if it was incomplete, we still would have had a chance at a first down. I feel KOC was already planning on going for it on 4th down.
Personally I wasn’t unhappy with that particular call, as it worked out it was basically a punt INT. However, I was unhappy with the minimal run playcalls during the game.
Course not, but fans just like to bitch and think they know everything, it was the same type complaints but opposite calls with zim because he basically ran every time and people would complain when it didn’t work that he they should have thrown the ball because the box was stacked, if it works it was a great call, if it doesn’t you are a dumdum
I was upset with Jettas falling down, and just standing there when the Dback was running free. Had Jettas not fallen down and it was incomplete, I would have been fine with that as well.
I was unhappy with the call as such because I think that KOC is outsmarting himself, and it costs the team. Catch em by surprise? Great, it just doesn’t work often enough. We needed momentum at that point, just get the 1st down and go from there.
Running game was working just fine, and he makes McCarthy throw 42 times… should have hired fucking Harbaugh.
NLNVF must have been bored last night. Love looked very mediocre. Neither offense got moving, but it was a fun game to watch. Oh, FTP!
I was trying to help out folks who couldn’t watch the game due to Youtube TV issues with ESPN.
It was a heck of a defensive struggle. Eagles got’er done in the end, which of course is good for us.
Thank you. I could not watch the game for that very reason.
Well GF will be happy. We cracked 300 comments.
Wondered if higher numbers, 100, 200, 250, 300; help the sites ranking on Viking Blog Searches.
And why are you still up? It is way past your EST bedtime.
Hey SoCal, went to bed pretty much right after that post last night. Watched the MNF game, and was on twitter stirring up trouble, grin.
James Bond’s death in No Time to Die is causing a nightmare for the next film. Writers are stuck because Bond “was blown to pieces.”
Anthony Horowitz, author of three 007 novels, says:
“You can’t have him wake up in a shower and saying it was all a dream.”
There was a lot of background noise that producers wanted to basically start over with a female Bond character, preferably a black female Bond. Unfortunately that seems to have been a bad idea as it was floated to some consumers who balked at the idea. But now it’s too late, because they already killed Bond.
Get a Bond Jr, a son from some random Bond Girl, there are lots to choose from.
You get new blood and some back story.
Problem solved.
I think this may ultimately be a solution. Somewhere he produced a son, that no one knew about, even him.
“My Name Is Bond, Ian Bond’.
Isn’t Bond just an alias so they can just pick some new rube and tell him his name is Bond like in the Kingsmen.
I have negative knowledge on the topic.
Yeah, FTP.
GB misses the field goal. Game over, Eagles win 10-7.
