Robert Griffith

appy Tuesday, everyone, and welcome to Skoloholics, your home for Minnesota Vikings Discussion. Everyday you can join us for Minnesota Vikings news, Minnesota Vikings talk, NFL news and updates, and all of those other things that you have on your mind. At Skoloholics, the real action is in the comments, so if you haven’t checked out the comments section yet, sign up and join the conversation. As always, remember to be cool to one another.

Another day removed from the Vikings’ big win over the Giants, I still like what I saw from the offense and defense on Sunday (and the special teams, nobody screwed up at least). I like the feeling of enjoying a win far more than sitting here after a loss trying to convince myself that one loss is nothing to worry about. Some early grades are in from Sunday.

I’m sitting here watching Monday Night Football. The 49ers running game is destroying the Jets defense, and the Jets offense is sputtering mainly due to dropped passes. Rogers is making some nice throws, and he just connected with Lazard on a free play (offsides defense) long ball. His interception was due to a tipped ball where it looked to me like the WR didn’t come back to the ball & gave the DB a chance to get his hand in there. I’ll link the final score below, I’m going to bed.

SKOL!!!!!!!!!

Vikings/NFL News and Updates

CBS Sports hands out their week one team grades.

Here’s the final score of the 49ers vs. Jets Monday Night Football game, from CBS Sports.

At Vikings.com, Harrison Smith talks about getting his 35th interception and the Vikings quest for ‘even better’. I love the fact that Smith is likely to spend his entire career with the Vikings, he’s still my favorite current Viking.

Media Selection

This is a few years old & it’s a couple hours long, but it’s a really good watch. I think people deserve to know the facts.

Thread Guidelines

  • Keep politics out. We are adults, news happens, and we can talk about it. What we don’t want is to go down the rabbit holes and turn a productive conversation into name calling and personal attacks.
  • Be cool to one another. Like it says above, just be civil. You don’t need to agree with everyone and that’s fine, you also don’t need to make it personal. Attack the argument not the poster.
  • Keep the NSFW to a minimum. We don’t need anyone getting in trouble at work for hanging out here.
  • All in all, be adults. Treat each other with respect and things will be fine. Mods will take out content they feel is pushing the boundary. If you want to reach out about something feel free to ask. We want to have robust discussions, that’s why we’re here. Just be civil and cool to one another.

So i watched the KOC interview with PA. I really appreciate how intentional KOC is when he compliments a player and he can lay out many examples of the positives a player brings. I really enjoyed what he said about Phillips and why they found it necessary to get him signed on for another couple years.

I then watch Flores interview, and it’s funny how those 2 coaches are just so different in terms of “coach speak”. While we all tease KOC for his coach speak, i also think he is completely intentional in how he describes a player and their attributes and qualities. Flores is just a little….quieter on that front. When asked about what he likes about Phillips, Flores didn’t struggle saying nice things about it, but it just doesn’t FLOW like it does with KOC, is all.

all in all. excited to have phillips back and excited to have KOC as our head coach and Flores as our DC

Everyone enjoy the political theater last night? As soon as Kamala refused to answer how the Trump tariffs are so bad when they haven’t repealed them in 3.5 years, seriously I was yelling at the TV to her response, “that’s not the questions, that’s not what they asked!”
Then when Trump refused to answer why he shot down the border security plan because he had to defend his precious little rally ego. But really he answered without answering. It’s not hard to figure out the only thing he wants on the border is an ineffective waste of money of a wall because it would be “Trump’s wall” and the only thing that guy loves more than grabbing pussies is big structures with his name on them haha. Can’t blame him there lol.

I have found when I was younger I ws fairly good at poking holes in what others did and said. But with age and placement . in serious positions where I was the decision maker, found the need to be more constructive and solution based.
Was there any good or anything positive?

Ummmm you conveniently ignored Trump’s Remain in Mexico policy that reduced border traffic significantly. This policy forced all asylum seekers to remain in Mexico until their court date. This fixed the problem of asylum seekers coming through the borders, getting a court date, and never coming back for their hearing. They just disappeared into the country. It was an excellent “border control” policy.

Of course Biden ended the policy, but the Supreme Court sided with Trump, and it was reinstated.

As far as the debate goes he still dodged the question bigly. But yes I agree Remain in Mexico was a good policy, but why did he kill that border policy that was widely a bi-partisan deal? I still think it’s because he just wants that damn ego boosting wall.

Is that the same bill that had Billions of dollars going to Ukraine?

If you don’t know the answer to that, then you’re underinformed. Even before a bipartisan group of senators unveiled the text of a foreign aid and immigration overhaul bill on Feb. 4, it faced significant opposition from Trump and other Republican leaders.

Before the bill had been released, Republican Sen. Ted Cruz described it as “a steaming pile of crap.” After seeing it, Cruz said, “it turned out my assessment was far too kind.”

The bill seemed to allow up to 5,000 illegal immigrants a day, on average for seven days, before the restrictions from DHS could be activated. Democrats argued the bill was being misinterpreted, and Trump and the Republicans were playing politics.

Clearly the verbiage was not strong enough in this regard for Trump, and it really could have resulted in 35,000 illegals to enter before being enforced. In general it appeared to me that bill was aimed at two things. First spend $118B of taxpayer money, to increase the infrastructure and personnel to dramatically increase the processing of migrants into the country, and second reduce the President’s ability to close the border. You know, take away the power of the President to secure the country, which is job one for the President.

Neither of those things were good for the country, or the taxpayer.

Tuesday thoughts…..

BFlo has his work cut out for him next week after watching SF chew up the Jets front 7. Will be interesting how they try to make up for our lack of an interior presence. Wondering if LDR will be active to have fresh DL legs on the field…

Offensively I think we can slow them a bit with the screen game – an area where AJ really excels. That and getting the ball out of Sam’s hand quickly. Thought the OLine held up well (except Ingram) against Lawrence & Thibodeaux – I think they can do the same against the 49ers. We’ll need excellent blocking out of our tackle tandem as both Bosa and Floyd can get after it – also will need Nailor to step up and fill Addison’s shoes as I’m betting he doesn’t play.

Weighing in since it’s Tuesday – I’m neither a Kirko hater nor an apologist. The goal here is a SB, many thought he was the guy to deliver it (most importantly the guys that write the checks). After 6 years and a lot of money we got a handful of good memories, twice as many forgettable ones and zero championships to show for it. The experiment failed. Period. He’s on another team now and I only care about how he does Week14 when he returns to Minnesota wearing another team’s jersey….

That said, I watched the ATL/PIT game alongside the Vikings game and the Falcons had no answer for Watt. Kirk looked sluggish and uncertain of his teammates and there a stark talent differences between Drake London and Justin Jefferson as your WR1. I think some can be blamed on scheme – but it looked clear to me that Kirko in ATL will be a work in progress. But seriously…. who gives a shit?

The MINNESOTA VIKINGS ARE 1-0! That’s all I care about.

Skol!

So I did some research, and Vance was a never Trumper, like many politicians in 2016. The messaging on Trump was he was a Billionaire, born with a silver spoon in his mouth, who could never relate to the “common American” etc, etc, etc. The Hitler comment was based on his musings on what to make of Trump, not that he believed Trump was America’s Hitler.

What many folks learned though, was Trump was more committed to making America great again, than anyone could have believed. Vance saw up close and personal how Trump wielded power to indeed strike fear in the hearts of our enemies, and improve our strength, our power, and our security.

People can be misinformed, and have opinions that are ill-considered. That is all that was going on here.

If Trump cared, actually cared about this country he wouldn’t have spent his whole career fucking the tax code and buying foreign steel etc… you can say he was a good business man for that, fine, but in the end HE DOES NOT CARE about the country. He cares about his bottom line first and if it is also good for the country then so be it. Again, like making sure off shore drilling is legal but not on beachfront property he owns. His bottom line matters first.

Kamala? If she cared more about the people of this country than climbing the ladder she wouldn’t have shit on peoples lives a DA when there was judge ruled shit evidence and involved. She was corrupt as hell and screwed peoples lives.

The Democratic and Republican party’s job is to win and pay back the people that funded their campaign with legislation that is good for them. That is their primary function.

Yeah because giving another American money for their product they are selling for a few hundred bucks less than it’s worth is the same thing s giving foreign countries millions and millions instead of American companies and avoiding American taxes. True, great comparison.

We the people are in lose-lose. But roughly half of us will feel like we won because we’ve given in to being divided, picking a side to care about but it’s a side that couldn’t give one shit about we the people.

Trump increased minority owned businesses at a higher rate than any President in history. We were exporting more oil than we were importing under Trump, something that I have never experienced at any other point in my lifetime. He canceled many bad trade deals where the U.S. was getting robbed. He threatened to cancel the two new Boeing 747 contracts because they were grossly bloated, and the CEO acquiesced to his demands. He let Putin know if he ever threatened Ukraine, he would know what it’s like to get his ass whooped.

I could list literally tens of dozens of real accomplishments, but you claim he never did anything of substance. Trump is hands down the greatest President I ever served.

When he came in office race relations had reached an all time high – only about 33 % felt it was bad. When he left, 33 rose to 68%, and the entire Woke movement took off.
And the country has not been the same since.

Anyone have further opinions on the Tyreek Hill cluster on Sunday prior to the game?
I watched the entire 28 minute bodycam video online. I really think Tyreek was being a bit of an ass at the beginning when he was first pulled over.

However, the officer overreacted as well. I could never do that job. I would just shoot people.

I am sure lawsuits are following.

Made me think of the last time I got pulled over for speeding. I was doing 49 in a 40 zone. Saw the cop as I rounded a corner, the patrol car was facing me. As soon as the lights came on, I pulled over, got my license and proof of insurance out, rolled down my window and had my hands at 10/2 on the steering wheel. Officer asked me what the speed limit is. “45”. Nope, 40. me “well, I was going faster than that for sure”.

I was never hauled out of my car or tazed. But I am also driving a shitty Kia not a McLaren.

My gut feeling is to exactly agree with you but then I go… did the cop overreact? I did NOT watch the full 28 clip but just the highlights of him bitching at the cop to not knock on his window and such. I guess the cop could have said, “Get out of the vehicle” and then when he didn’t he could have said, “I am only going to ask one more time, after that you will be physically removed from the vehicle by force, the choice is yours.” Ya know, so I am not sure the cop went “too far” per say but he could have went about it what he did in a better way.

Did not give him a chance to get out of the car, but pulled him out and tossed him to the ground. Two teammates stopped to see what was going on. The aggressiveness of the officers showed up there as well. Basically, Hill was an ass, and the cops said “we will show you how to be an ass”.

I’ll go there.

If that was JJ McCarthy or Justin Jefferson, I would have zero sympathy for them. In fact, I would be a little pissed as a fan that they would act in that matter.

I have watched plenty of videos of people successfully playing the “I don’t answer questions, I don’t consent to search…” etc. Tyreek did it all wrong.

First of all, he was clearly speeding and double dumbass not wearing a seatbelt. OK he says “do your thing do what you gotta do” after griping about the officer knocking on his fully tinted raised window. Key #1 is you need to answer the officer’s questions. You are not legally required to roll the window all the way down but you can’t roll it all the way up when they ask you to have it down, and you need to verbalize your reasons for not rolling it all the way down. Fully tinted window all the way up the officers had every reason to be suspicious and concerned for their safety. He then ignores the officers repeatedly which is not wise, say “I don’t answer questions” but don’t sit there mute.

The officer asked him 7 times to get out of the vehicle. If a peace officer asks you to get out of your car, at that point you have a crystal clear sign that the whole traffic offense has escalated dramatically and you just need to do exactly what they say. I thought they took him out of the car very gracefully considering the potential threat.

Next thing you have multiple people rolling up and walking up to the scene. If you are approaching a traffic stop you can expect to be asked to move back or present ID.

Iv never been to Williston and I plan on keeping it that way but NoDak has had an influx of folks from across the boarder in the past 12-15 years and with that has come some fantastic, legit Mexican food. They keep popping up in Bismarck and the one in Dickinson next to the interstate exit is also very very good.

So the Falcons really know how to use Kirk it seems… from Yahoo:

23. Atlanta Falcons (0-1, LW: 15)It is troubling that the Falcons changed their offense to presumably account for Kirk Cousins not being able to move. They were the only team in the NFL through Sunday’s games that didn’t have one play-action pass. They were in the pistol or shotgun formation on 96% of snaps according to ESPN’s Field Yates, and Cousins has never operated extensively out of the pistol formation. Atlanta was predictable too, never running out of the shotgun and running 81% of time when they lined up in pistol, according to Yates. If Cousins can’t move as he comes off a torn Achilles, Sunday’s offense is unsustainable and they’d have to consider rookie Michael Penix Jr. at some point. Not all Week 1 issues are long-term concerns, but this one is.

So basically, one of the most effective quarterbacks at playaction, you don’t even use once the whole game. Good work, OC and HC.

Read they run this offense as MCkay switched to it last year once his line fell apart. Suppose to let the QB get rid of ball quickly.
Looks like crap to me.
Believe Cousins has been in top 3 of the league over last five years on play action. Last year had over 2350 yards in 8 games. From 22 year, he was second to only Mahomes with air balls over 20 yards down the field. Yet, atlanta seldom had a receiver beyond 10 yards of scrimmage. Simply crazy.

I didn’t watch the game, as I was watching the Vikings (of course) but if this is true, that OC is a total dumbass.

The pistol formation is very versatile, IF the quarterback is a threat to run the ball. The Pistol is paired with the option play, where the quarterback reads one or more defenders and reacts to their responses to the snap, then makes a decision to either hand the ball off to the running back, or keep it and run himself. Cousins is a pocket passer. WTF is the OC doing putting him in the Pistol, four yards off the line of scrimmage, with the RB lined up three yards directly behind him? Cousins can’t adjust the RB, to help pick up the blitz, and he’s a sitting duck at four yards. The pass rushers can just blow him away from that spot.

As I said, I didn’t watch the game, so cannot say much, but on the surface of it, Cousins in the Pistol is ridiculous in the extreme.

I’m sure there are lots of rumors, but every single reporter from training camp said he was running around and dropping back with no problem. Cousins himself said he was full go from the start of training camp. There was no report that he looked like he was favoring his leg at all, and everyone on the planet was watching for that.

I think it was a rookie OC that made a huge tactical error.

Now I get that they don’t want some skoloholic hacker hijacking my computer to access medical records but jeez you wouldn’t think you need to invoke NSA boss admin protocols to access the latest edition of NEJM. Next thing you know they will revoke my access to the online edition of Playboy, which I only read for the articles (does Playboy even exist anymore?).

‘does Playboy even exist anymore?’

I have heard, but cannot confirm, that there is so much more ‘interesting stuff’ on the inter web thingie that Playboy is only worth visiting it for the articles, if it still exists and has articles.

I figured as much.

Kinda on the same tangent as my tossing out volumes of comic books, a buddy of mine in high school had a couple of big boxes of Playboys, probably 150 in all. His dad owned the local convenience store and in exchange for my buddy ripping off all the covers of all the other skin books and magazines (which I guess they sent back to the publisher to get credit) and tossing all the racy stuff in the trash, his dad would let him keep each months Playboy. This had started about age 12. In other words, his dad would let him keep the “soft” stuff if he didn’t swipe the raunchier stuff.

They were moving and he wasn’t allowed to move the magazines to the new house so I helped him as we hauled them out to the dump and threw them in the pit end of our senior year.

Sometimes I wonder how much they would be worth these days. Again not in pristine condition but there were the Bo Derek, Vanna White, etc editions.

Now porn is ubiquitous.

“I actually got warned by the official after Gink’s touchdown. He came running over and I didn’t know what he was going to tell me. He said, ‘Hey just a heads up, most of your defensive staff was just in the end zone.’ So I got on the headset and said I’m not mad, I’m just disappointed. Josh Metellus (we have him under contract next year, but if he continues his rise, i would think we would want to get him on a multi-year deal sooner than later)
Cam Bynum is a UFA next year, thinking he’ll be the highest priority…

The first week of the Pick ‘Em League is in the books.

Bleeding Purple N’ Gold is guarding the rear.

NoDakRube is next, laying in the weeds to strike out for higher ground.

Me and DE Viking are currently tied. I’m not sure if you guys know this, but you are supposed to let the guy who set up the league win. Pretty sure it is even a law in Canada, and you get your license to Tim Horton’s revoked if you don’t comply.

Then comes Rick Vice, who must have changed his first name from “Miami.”

I’d rather be fishing has a kink in his neck from looking way up at his progeny from so far down.

Kirk is still good is next, and his name is perfectly acceptable for a Tuesday, but if this was written on a Wednesday, we’d have to get reparations.

Surly Viking is hanging out in the middle, comfortably satisfied with things, but beware the surliness that will manifest itself if things take a downhill turn.

Bowbunch is next, and he knows loftier heights are within reach.

JacksonVike is holding onto a podium position by the skin of his teeth.

Freezeface, the guy who is so nonchalant about his skills that he needs to be reminded to make his picks, finds himself in second place and probably doesn’t even know it!

And who is at number one but Little Fishin? The fresh-faced rookie has come into the league and dominated all the wily veterans.

Yet, it is still early, It is anyone’s game. Get those picks in before Thursday’s game. It’s all more fun when you have opponents to chase and opponents to hold off.

I absolutely killed him and made him cry, and I am not a chess master. Turns out all the other adults were going easy on him when playing.

Have you ever been there NoDakRube? It’s a cool stadium for sure. Be loud, we need the home crowd to be deafening when niners are on offense. Oh yeah, bring the plastic with ya, no cash accepted.

I am sure Shanny is relieved not to have to face the daunting Kirko and dealing with a crappy QB like Darnold.

I doubt Shanny thinks Darnold is crappy – he coached him last year. If you like real news, you can go back and hear his and Bosa’s interviews following last year;’s game. Should still be on y tube.

He was the backup to mr irrelevant. Brock Purdy.
I doubt he has that much hype for him.

He won’t say that of course, but if he wanted him that much, he would have kept him.

Great start to the season! So great to see a complete domination of an opponent for once. Looking forward to seeing if the team can keep this going. I think we’re all seeing stars a little bit right now. I know I am!

Those things are way more maintenance than I expected, but I really enjoyed having one.

Do not miss the maintenance, but man, you get a really good night’s sleep after sitting in one of those for awhile.

They are somewhat similar to a boat. I pined after a hot tub for years, the home we bought in Billings had one. Seemed like every time I said to the wife, let’s go soak in the hot tub, it was either too cold, too late, too smoky, etc…As you mention, they are more maintenance than you think so after about 5 years of limited use when the pump went out I was happy to give it to a hot tub dealer for no more than their effort moving it out of my yard.

A couple of months ago my wife said “it would be nice to have a hot tub out on our deck, we should have had the electricians wire in an outlet”. Heck no.

and i’m definitely not one to overreact to ONE game, but rodgers looks….OLD

Truly he wasn’t happy with the offense. Had some dropped passes, had some missed passes, and the defense couldn’t stop the 49ers offense. We didn’t see that wizardry we have become accustomed to with Rodgers though for sure.

I kind of noticed that all the “established” teams tended to do well this week and all the teams with new coaches, OC’s, and DC’s didn’t fare very well for the most part.

i don’t have a great feeling for the vikes this week, but hey….re-vamped defense…our linebackers are actually….good…

I think it is reasonable to believe they can at least compete. I just want to them to look like they belong in the game. A win is a bonus.

Expecting Doom, since… well, history.
SF is a very good team.
Maybe I will be surprised.

I have hope… the team looked great against the Giants. Obviously the 49ers are a different level of competition, but we looked very competent.

Perhaps it’s lack of preseason play, but great many of the offenses and QB’s looked rusty. Think it was very low for opening day TD passes and yards.

So glad he is gone.
His career will be remembered as having a HoF agent, and getting overpaid for average results.

@good for him@

I believe he is 5th highest all time but may move up a rank or two after his current deal in Atlanta is done.

I’m still wondering what team he ACTUALLY wants to retire with.
Like his career is over and he signs the one day contract to retire as a….”insert team”

My guess is Minny.

Unless you’re gonna go in the HOF, the one day contract doesn’t matter.

kirk is hardly the first ever player in the history of the NFL to get paid an exorbitant amount of money and not live up to his potential…

in fact, he’s probably in the 90th percentile for that….

that being said…

i’m ok with him being gone as well

Yep. He got paid well. He is good at what he does, I just feel his play does not match his pay.

Next season will be interesting for sure, with the extra cash Kwesi has to spend.

In the meantime, I am enjoying the ride this year, even if this week is a tough task.

I live in a very different part of the country andas such get to hear very little of the local Viking hype. Do get to talk to quite a few football people though.
Looking back at 20, 21, 22, 23 seasons most folks thought all we had was Cousins to JJ, AT. No defense, sporatic running game.
given that, what should he have been paid?

oh i have zero clue.

my comment was saying kirk gets blasted for how much he got paid, as if he is the first professional sports player who got paid a ridiculous amount of money and never lived up to what his money made him “worth”…
