Ben, I am a Vikings fan, and have been since the 60’s. Yes the Redskins were my “home team” for many years, but the Vikings have always been a favorite team. I follow the Ravens too, since I lived just outside of Baltimore for 13 years. I’m an equal opportunity fan, if you will.

I do not besmirch Kirk at all for signing in Atlanta, from reports he got a much better deal, goes to a team that as of now has a better roster overall, particularly the interior oline, and scores points with his incredibly classy and loving wife. Good for him. For the Vikings, given their cap and roster situation, it also makes sense for them not to match the offer and good for KAM/KOC to realize this.
Now we just have to figure out… the rest of the story… as Paul Harvey would say.

Never met him, but would like to. I’m concerned about the Vikings right now, because I honestly see little out there for the position. Jimmy G is a likely candidate, but guys like Wentz, Sam Darnold, Jameis Winston, etc don’t thrill me.

Matt Ryan was declining in his decision-making as well as his accuracy. Cousins isn’t exhibiting any of that. In fact Cousins just seems to get better and better.

There certainly was an adjustment period for Cousins coming in. He had to deal with some personalities and develop a trust relationship with the players. That takes time. Respect is earned, and Cousins “steady Eddie” character won the team over. They all saw him go through adversity without flinching, or acting out. Teams want a leader they can depend on, through thick and thin, and Cousins brought that in spades.

i, freezeface, have always been a fan of kirk cousins. he was USUALLY a joy to watch on the field, and he was always a class act off the field. i have always been a fan of players who are, in fact, on the team, and have never cheered against the (minus lewis cine or the couch)…..
it was a fun run of not amazing football with kirk at the helm. did i figure this would be the outcome, kinda sorta. am i glad we aren’t paying him 45+ a year, kinda sorta. are we now gonna suck, maybe so.

Like Cousins or not, he did not look small on the field against Rogers. In fact, he has a winning record against him. He certainly held his own against Goeff and all the Bear QB’s.
the division still has Goeff, Love is on the rise, and if Williams is anything close to what people say, Vikings need to hit a home run.

Draft a rookie. That’s a crapshoot at best. This is somewhat maddening, because the Vikings could have retained Cousins last June, but chose not to.

Agree. I think the play now is to get JJ done and bolster defense. Then move however you can to get your guys, whomever they determine that to be, in the draft early.

$45M a year. It’s a good day for Cousins. Got everything that KAM couldn’t realistically do. No way could the Vikings give Cousins that kind of money, but it does align with his market value. Some folks were saying he’d get Northwards of %50M a year and he isn’t the highest paid QB in the league by a long way. Cousins didn’t come close to “breaking the bank” or demanding more than other QB’s. In fact, two years from now $45M will be cheap for a QB.

Draft JJ and build a team with the 200 mill you didn’t guarantee to Kirk. Looks like they started on defense already. Upgrade the corners, sign a RB, draft a RB and you’re in pretty good position. Great position for 2025 and forward. They’ll be just as competitive in 24 as they would have been with Kirk and will be in position to build a team that is a real contender for Championships in 25 and beyond.
Yeah… we’re gonna be great in a few years… just watch.

Well. You Posted a clip last week of JJ throwing a TD in TCU game – great pass indeed. But I also went and watched the entire game. Now TCU had a shit defense and a week later gave up 70 to Georgia – But I was not near as impressed with JJ as you are We beat.Bears and Packers last year and would have at least once against Lions (Mullens should have) with Kirk. No way we’ll be just as competitive next year.

In fact he had a different OC every year for five years and was STILL one of the best QB’s in the league. Don’t tell me he can’t learn a new system and make it go. He’s proven that with 9 different OC’s in 12 years.
