Minnesota Vikings Discussion Topic of the Day
The offense has been stagnant, to say the least. What needs to change in order to get this offense to ‘click’? I’m not talking personnel changes, I’m referring to the offensive approach or overall strategy. What do you think the problem is with the offensive strategy/game plan? There is too much talent on the offensive side of the ball for them to underperform as much as they have this year.

The Vikings released QB Tanner Morgan from their practice squad, according to Vikings.com.
From Yahoo, the Vikings worked out eight players, including quarterbacks.
Sean Payton says he’s ‘not looking to shop’ any Broncos players prior to the trade deadline, per NFL.com. Why would he? @The Broncos look great so far this year.@
Power rankings are out, here’s CBS, and then there’s ESPN, and don’t forget NFL.com. You’ll be shocked to see that the Vikings don’t crack the top 10 in any of these. I’m outraged!

If you can survive in Portland, you should check out Powell’s book store. They have a room that has some antique books. They only allow a few people in at a time. There are some really cool books in that room.

Kirk stans seemed to have realized the reality of the season and now no longer feel the need to post? I feel like now is when we have the most to talk about.
Very quiet. I’m wondering with trade deadline if that says anything. We can easily be 1-6. Bears yes, 9ers no way.
Whats amazing is this year we could LOSE 11 games by one score, talk about reverting back to the mean one year later.
Think 5 wins high water mark now. Trades maybe less.
Thats about where im at, maybe Bears once, maybe Atlanta, maybe Broncos, maybe Raiders.
Hate to blow off seasons but Purple need a new qb and picks.
Its our first season in what..almost a decade to actually blow off? Im fine with it. And saw it coming a long way off. This is what happens when you kick too many cans down the road in some positions and when you are in the process of re shaping a roster. Theres going to be a down year or two, maybe 3. And it doesnt make me sad or upset, at all.

It is! Kinda nice not scrolling through garbage and copy and pasted paragraphs from other websites. Looking forward to a new QB and some fresh excitement in the overall fan base and here. Lots to talk about to come. Might be quiet during the cliff season, but thats a price I think we’re all willing to pay.

I don’t know if I’ve mentioned this before, but I really love my new gig. Corporate life was not my cup of tea.
Are you still running?
I’ve been able to maintain it so far through harvest, but I think I’m going to miss a run this week. I still haven’t been able to break my 5K time from last year, but I did finally break an hour on a 10K earlier this summer.
I still got two months to break the 5K time.
Yeah man, Kiddo and I ran a 5K a couple weeks ago. I ran in a marathon relay the next day. I try to get out and run every other day.
I’m still working out but have fallen off the map on my running. Need to pick it back up again. I haven’t gotten to a 5K yet but usually pair a mile or mile and half with 30-60 minutes of other work out… haven’t been running more than like once every few weeks lately.
I am pretty competitive about my running. I’m not fast, but I have targets to beat that keep me motivated.
Like I ran in a 5K last month. I then went to the results page, printed it off, put it in a spreadsheet and then I see how far I can climb up the list before next year’s 5K.
I didn’t have a good run that day, so I’ve already climbed a good six spots on the list.
I need to run in more 5Ks, I think. They are kind of fun.
A GPS watch also helps. I have a cheap Garmin Forerunner 35, but even that is good data and helps with motivation.
I use an app to beat my own times. But yeah I just need to do it more. My knee has been killing me lately so I have been down very low impact but still cardio/conditioning and doing things to help strengthen it as well. Cutting back on my eating would also help my knees lol.
As someone who ran 25-30 miles a week for 30 years and now has a knee replacement, I’d say load management and quad strenghtening are huge issues.
That’s good stuff. Keep it going, and keep running with the kid. That’s solid memory-making right there!

I was independent for 20 of the last 25 years. Certainly has it’s perks.
Back to corporate life for me since June.
It feels good have 0 emotional investment in this team. It sucks my feelings on the team way back in May are being proven valid but, thats the way she goes. Will still watch the circus and laugh every Sunday. The good news is them losing only sets them up better. And a rouge wild random win every now and then still makes it interesting for a day. Good times yall!

I have now been in the cornfields for so long that I am legally married to a tractor.
Her name is “Trackey,” and she doesn’t let me get any sleep, if you know what I mean, and I think you do…
I know what you mean… you’re up late harvesting haha. I grew up in the country, not a farm or ranch, just an acreage with horses, dogs and cats (did hay in the summer throwing square bails), but no crops or anything like that. Surrounded by fields though and man… when I’d go to bed with a combine in the field, wake up to pee or something you could still hear them going, and get up in the morning to go to school and they were still going… Crazy stuff man. Thanks for feeding us!
It is kind of fun in the beginning, and it gets kind of fun again toward the end, but there is that space in the middle where the doldrums hit. Every day is kind of like that too, like from about 12:30 to 3 p.m. every day, I start nodding off in the tractor. Fortunately, there isn’t really anything to crash into!
But we will get a break starting tomorrow. Rain is coming, and it could knock us out of commission for a week if we get a lot.
But that’s cool. We should be about 75 percent done with the corn today, so we are on the downhill side of things.
Is the tractor GPS navigated? How’d you do bushels per acre this year?
Nope, we don’t have any GPS stuff. We aren’t big enough to be able to afford up-to-date equipment.
Beans were averaging about 60 an acre.
Corn seems to be in the low 200s.
A lot of people are really dry all around us, but we were in a pocket that got better rains than the area in general.

He does that a game or two a season for a few plays and people point to that like its the norm when its not lol. He has happy feet and jitters and some times that leads to him moving around the pocket, im not buying it.

I recall 0 times he did it the first two games. Please show me examples. Stepping up into a clean pocket does not count. ALL QBs do that. Im talking about evading out of a sack to open space for either a positive run or a positive pass. They are few and far between. I have no hate glasses, my eyes just see reality and I dont fluff it.

He’s slow to react, and slow running once he does. That play he saw pressure coming and was going to evade to his left but Darrisaw’s guy spotted it and came off the block to head him off, closing that escape off, so Kirk turned back to the right where Ingram had been beat like he was standing still. Manna ran around him like he was a statue.
So, he tried to escape, just too slow to get it done, and Ingram needs to find the bench.
The question above – how to get the offense rolling.
With JJ hurt, I’d suggest go heavy and big doses of running the ball. Any time you can run the ball effectively it smoothes out the entire offense. Take some shots with PA when the defense allows.
For the future, I’d like to see the team find some taller WRs that can do what JJ and JA do, whether it’s signing a FA next spring, or drafting a couple.
In the next couple weeks I think JA and Powell are going to slide into WR1 and WR2, with KJ dropping to WR3 while JJ mends.
I think we’ll see an attempt to establish the run this Sunday, but if it gets shut down, more throws to Hock and Oliver and short (pun intended) WR routes.
I like tall WR’s too – at least one. For whatever reason, Kirk’s and KJ’s chemistry just seems off.
Believe week after we play 49ers. Dallas has like to All Pros on their line and they got eaten alive with no running game. We will need to run the ball, good time to start short JJ.
Kirk has trust issues. Look at the best QBs who have played. Yeah they have guys who are their go to guys but they spread the ball around to everyone. Do your job QB, put the ball where they can catch it, then let them do their job.
I don’t know – he keeps throwing to KJ and I wonder why. Even if you go back year before last, Cousins threw 7 interception for the year and 3 were at KJ – the WR3.
You and I differ some on what an NFL WR should be able to catch.

They’ll end up getting a highish draft pick and instead of taking one of the QBs, they’ll trade up for Harrison.
I’d love to see more Akers & Mattison. We barely ran on Sunday again.

Mattison sucks IMO. Misses open lanes (I have noted it several times over the past years) and apparently not good at catching/concentration. Chandler and Akers are leagues better, to me.
Agreed, Mattison is not able to carry the load. Akers looked good in a limited role, Chandler remains to be seen.
I don’t know… Chandler hasn’t gotten many opportunities, but when he does, he averages like 8 yds per carry
I’d give him more snaps. What KOC is looking at i have no idea.
Same thing he must see in KJ. Powell is doing much more with his opportunities than KJ.
Should have worded that better, Chandler indeed needs more opportunities, can’t do much worse than Mattison. Hopefully better, as his numbers on a very small scale might suggest.
