It’s finally Friday, everyone, and welcome to Skoloholics, your home for Minnesota Vikings Discussion! Every day, you can join us for Minnesota Vikings news, Minnesota Vikings discussion, NFL news and discussion, and pretty much anything else that you have on your mind. At Skoloholics, the real action is in the comments, so if you haven’t checked out the comments section yet, sign up and join the conversation. No cost to join, you just need an email address.

I’m reading through PFF’s power rankings, and this caught my eye. According to them, the Vikings have had the 4th-hardest strength of schedule to date, and they have the league’s 28th-hardest strength of schedule remaining. I think that’s the part that is most surprising about the Vikings’ torrential start, this opening part of the schedule looked brutal. They’ve beaten some good teams, and have done so fairly handily (near collapses aside), and they haven’t trailed in a game since week one, and they only trailed for a couple/few minutes. Another thing I noticed on PFF is that they have Sam Darnold graded as the league’s 22nd-best quarterback this year. Dah, okay.

Vikings/NFL News and Updates:

Hey, remember Ezra Cleveland? The Vikings traded him last year, & kept Ingram instead. Ezra Cleveland is PFF’s highest-rated pass blocker in the NFL this season, according to Vikings Wire. Cleveland topped the list of 69 NFL guards. I checked the list, and I know the question will be asked. so here you go. Ed Ingram is the league’s 67th-best pass blocker (another way of saying it: he is the league’s third-worst pass blocker) Congrats, Ezra. WTH, Kwesi-Adofo Mensah?

The Vikings success this season can be partially attributed to work done in free agency, according to Dave Campbell at AP.

The Vikings are at or near the top of all the power rankings, from Vikings.com.

Media Selection:

Here’s a great interview, two of my favorite people in the podcast world. Chris Williamson is a brilliant interviewer, and Shawn Ryan is a veteran, a hero, & a guy I respect a ton, he also has his own podcast which is well worth checking out. Enjoy!

Thread Guidelines

  • Keep politics out. We are adults, news happens, and we can talk about it. What we don’t want is to go down the rabbit holes and turn a productive conversation into name calling and personal attacks.
  • Be cool to one another. Like it says above, just be civil. You don’t need to agree with everyone and that’s fine, you also don’t need to make it personal. Attack the argument not the poster.
  • Keep the NSFW to a minimum. We don’t need anyone getting in trouble at work for hanging out here.
  • All in all, be adults. Treat each other with respect and things will be fine. Mods will take out content they feel is pushing the boundary. If you want to reach out about something feel free to ask. We want to have robust discussions, that’s why we’re here, just be civil.

Good morning all, and SKOL! We still have flooded streets in Trinity Fl, so we’re still in Mobile. Reports say the water is not going to recede sufficiently for us to return for at least a couple more days. We toured the USS Alabama Battleship yesterday as well as the USS Drum, a submarine. There were lots of aircraft there as well qhich I identified to my brother and his wife, and of course my wife. It wasa great day with warm, but not hot temps.

The pictures are alarming. More alarming is people w//o flood insurance which is usually a separate policy. The weather across country has insurance companies refusing to cover any. 1.5 million w/o power also. Hope you come out ok.

Back to the cornfields.

It is coming out slicker than whale s$#& on an ice flow, though.

Yields aren’t high, and it was the driest September here in forever, so the combine can fly through the field with no bogging.

God willing, we will have the corn in before the next Vikings game, and I can actually watch it!

Meant question – anyways here goes and Bow got me thinking about it as did some comments after the 49 er game and the 97 yard TD to JJ.
After the game folks said great play, and some went so far to say if Cousins had been here he would have thrown the safer underneath throw to Nailor.
I was indicating to Bow earlier this week about Sam being an MVP candidate and he provided some of Sam’s stats to include completion percentage which was a little low.
But back to the TD throw – 97 yards. But if you notice underneath, Nailor is about 25 yards downfield with 2 – 3 steps on his defender. He could easily ran another 25 yards before defenders adjust from JJ coverage.
Almost all decent NFL QB’s will hit the Nailor route at least 80% of the time. the deep 55 yard toss to JJ has a much lower rate. Even in practice, with no defenders, and the WR running full speed, it’s tough. In a game, throwing. into 2 deep coverage, maybe a one in five hit rate.
So, under normal game conditions ( there are times when the other alternative is better) which throw do you want your QB to make – a 50 yard gain with high success rate, or a bomb with lower success rate. Now, clearly the bomb worked here.
But different folks and coaches might see this differently.

Refs botch another big call last night (punt muff), blame it on “not having the camera view”, which is probably a lie. Trying to keep the game close again on a fairly obvious call, IMO. Their excuses continue when called out, though I never did see one for the Packers interception that wasn’t (usually that way when the Vikings are on the receiving end of a shit call).

Happy Friday Skolbros!

Took the day off. Wife in Detroit for the weekend. Just me and the dogs – and a straggler….. watching our friend Emily’s dog Luna for the weekend (Emily went to Detroit too)

Got some baseball steaks and asparagus for dinner. Thinking I’ll air fry the steaks and wrap the asparagus in bacon and drop it in a garlic butter bath in tinfoil in the oven. Should turn out nicely.

Harvested my last two plants last night – got about 8 ounces of flower total from the 2 plants. Was hoping for closer to 10/12 ounces but I’ll take it. My second round of growing my own – first time was just one plant and I got 5 ounces out of that one. Likely be another 4/6 weeks before I get another crop in, but this (and my current inventory) should keep me docile until February.

Glad to hear the Florida clan survived Helene and Milton. My best buddy just moved to Ocala – 2 hurricanes in the first 3 months of living there has him a bit jumpy but they’re okay. Said they never lost power but his fiancée’s family had their home wiped out in Havana.

Nephew on fall break today. He’ll be over this afternoon to play some Madden. I told him that I’ll beat him calling two plays out of one formation all game: Ace 3WR. I’ll use a straight HB dive and a ‘sticks’ play that features X/Y/TE curls with the Slot running a drag underneath and the RB running a delayed flat after blitz pickup – I can send the back on a wheel route from the line if necessary. 1 formation, 2 plays – I’m gonna destroy this kid.

Fingers crossed 🤞 that Aaron Jones heals up, nobody does anything stupid (anyone got Smoot’s number?) and we hit week 7 with a FULL offense intact and ready to go. Hock, JJ, Addison and Jones all on the field at the same time. Can’t wait.

Errbuddy be safe and enjoy the weekend.

Drive with courtesy, check your mirrors, leave your blinkers on and don’t risk it….

Looks tasty! I grow indoors, just a small tent with room for 2 plants, don’t have a garden at my disposal yet unfortunately. Started in 2021 out of necessity during plandemic lockdowns as I couldn’t get to my supplier at that time.

Good for you that you have so much space available. It’s not too hard to get the hang of it IMHO when one is ready to invest some time, and it’s fun to watch them grow from seedling to nice, bushy plants. Harvest time is always the best, though.

I’d like to update to an Xbox S, but I don’t like to spend more than $200 on a system.

I’m a PlayStation guy. And I’m too cheap to buy the PS5 – might be my Christmas gift to myself this year if they drop in price or there’s a decent bundle (Madden25 & NCAA25 are being bundled right now)

So we’re playing PS4. I’ve tried the Xbox but wasn’t a fan – I don’t like the controller.

I did drop $100 back in June for an old school NES console. Love that. Tecmo Super Bowl, Super Mario, Mike Tyson’s Punch Out, Top Gun – something awesome about turning the console on and playing.

No loading, no buffering – just cram a matchbook between the cartridge and the roof of the console (after blowing in the cartridge of course) and play!

Now I want to go play Contra….

The Blondie and Dagwood comic strip started in 1930. 94 years ago. I find that fascinating for some reason. I was just thinking about it because I sold a book today that has a collection of the 1st 3 years of the comic strip. Those 3 years included their courtship and marriage which occurred in 1933.

No, but I have a couple of extra tickets to Trump’s Victory Gala at the Statler Hilton in DC .

Hey edge, you might just have to go to the vikes official website, click on the tickets link and go from there. I have no idea if they would be sold out for that game, but if they are, you’ll have to go with a secondary market.

Thanks, I am all over Facebook ticket pages and such. I am sure the game is sold out. It’s a hot ticket. I have had a few offers but I’m not paying $500 for upper level seats. I’m just not. I’d rather watch at a bar downtown Minneapolis for that price lol.

Exactly.

Paying literally hundreds in fees… oof. Used facebook ticketing. Just have to trust that the person isn’t a scammer. But there are ways to make pretty darn sure.

Good morning all. SKOL and FTP! Still up in Mobile, waiting for the waters to settle (as opposed to the dust) in Florida.

Niners beat Seattle last night but I didn’t get to watch it as my brother doesn’t have Prime. I could have watched it on my laptop but we had a bit of a mini family reunion with my brother’s kid’s and their kids. My wife cooked a huge spaghetti dinner, with garlic bread salad, etc. My brothers wife and her son’s wife joined my wife in the kitchen, but they said she did all the cooking and work. It was a grand time, we all stuffed ourselves and the grand children wanted to hear my war stories.

Monitoring the recovery efforts today, and trying to gauge when it will be sensible to return.

Weather is great today down here.
That’s a neat family dinner.
Guess you can’t come back until the streets are cleared and drivable. That may take some time.
Be safe.

Thanks JR. We’re going to tour the USS Alabama today. Beautiful day here as well. Apparently the alligator is still swimming around the community.

So it’s a gator community now, rather than a gated community?

Glad that you guys got out in time and are OK, hope there’s not too much damage in your neck of the woods.

Laughing. Thank you HUNViking. We are very thankful for being able to relocate, and have somewhere to go. I don’t think folks realize in our economy now, how many folks simply don’t have the means to evacuate. They may understand that they need to leave, but they can’t. I prayed hard for those folks.
