Happy Thorsday, everyone, and welcome to Skoloholics, your home for Minnesota Vikings Discussion. Man, the week is flying by, I can’t believe it’s Thursday already! It’s the last week of kiddo’s football season, final practice is tonight & their final game is Saturday. It’s been a fun year for him. I still think 8 years old is too early for pads & tackle, but whatever. I don’t think we played real football until 7th grade, but that was in a town of 900 people where we play 9 man football. I guess they do things differently in these big city places like Bismarck. I’m ready to move somewhere smaller, or, preferably, move out to the middle of nowhere.

Minnesota Vikings Discussion Topic of the Day

The Bears are a beatable team, but Chicago is a tough venue for visiting teams, and the Vikings recent history in the Windy City isn’t stellar. What’s your final score prediction for Sunday?

Minnesota Vikings News:

Kirk Cousins says ‘ignorance is bliss’ when it comes to trade rumors, per the Inforum. He also has a no-trade clause, so it isn’t like they can just spring something on him & tell him to leave.

From MSN, the Vikings made a flurry of roster moves, including placing Mullens on IR and signing Mannion to the practice squad.

Vikings.com has a preview of the Vikings-Bears game, and they also released the week 6 injury report.

From CNN, former NFL player Sergio Brown has been taken into custody in connection with his mother’s death.

CBS Sports lists 7 stars who may be available as we approach the trade deadline.

Thread Guidelines

  • Keep politics out. We are adults, news happens, and we can talk about it. What we don’t want is to go down the rabbit holes and turn a productive conversation into name calling and personal attacks.
  • Be cool to one another. Like it says above, just be civil. You don’t need to agree with everyone and that’s fine, you also don’t need to make it personal. Attack the argument not the poster.
  • Keep the NSFW to a minimum. We don’t need anyone getting in trouble at work for hanging out here.
  • All in all, be adults. Treat each other with respect and things will be fine. Mods will take out content they feel is pushing the boundary. If you want to reach out about something feel free to ask. We want to have robust discussions, that’s why we’re here. Just be civil and cool to one another.

Getting fired up for the game tonight. I hate coach butt-face, and cannot stand Russell Wilson either. I used to like Denver, now I want them to suffer until both of those idiots are gone.

I also expect to see good QB play from Mahomes, and of course lots of coverage of the most important Chiefs fan….

So earlier this year when I turned 65 I was forced into Medicare.

I was told I had to have Part D, Prescription Drug Plan, even if I don’t have any prescriptions currently.
So they offered me a plan for only $4.95, since I had no current prescriptions, so that I wouldn’t be penalized $32.74 a month for not having a Part D Plan.
Now they tell me my Part D Plan is going up to $18.60 a month for 2024.

So I have to pay $18.60 a month for a plan I do not use or currently need in order not to get penalized $32.74 a month.

I should declare myself an Illegal Alien so the State of California will give me free Health Care too.

I felt like you and am certainly not a pro on this. There are many plans and some are better than others with respect to deductibles and coverage. A wise choice will pay off in long run.
For example. my wife was recently in the hospital for a week and all the IV’s etc are covered by the drug plan – and the costs are almost unbelievable.

Agreed,
The Teacher just spend 3 days in the hospital.
She has Blue Cross/Blue Shield and they were coming up with reasons for her to stay and get more tests.

I have Medicare/Tricare. Plus these little add ons like Aetna and Humana. Have not needed them since I retired and I had Kiaser before that.

Might have to re-consider them.

Don’t know who is the best so have been trying to do less expensive.
Medicare is required and Tri-care is cheap for me.
Supplementals are new and kind of overwhelming with all of them throwing ads my way proclaiming to be the best-best option.

It is really hard. With Medicare and Tricare you should be very solid WRT doctors and hospitalization.
The good thing about drug coverage, Believe you have the option of changing without penalty since you are signed up for a plan to begin with.

Having a drug plan is not negotiable.
Which plan I have is.

Changing now with no data about what is a good plan or not is pointless.
Once I have a ‘need’ I will have more data with which to evaluate any plans.

I guess is what I am trying to say.

That’s a good plan. Believe you can take a cheap plan and change later as needed. Some folks simply pay the penalty now, and then get trapped into some real expenses down the road – that’s what I meant.

Yeah Medicare phone Lady advised me and found me a ‘cheap plan’ to start out with.

$5 a month for a plan I don’t need is still better than $33 a month for not having a plan.

$19 a month is less good but still better than the penalty.

It was easy with Kiaser for me.
One stop shopping.
Coming out of the army I never had to deal with insurance. So ‘easy’ made a lot of sense.
And even the Cal Osha Dr was part of the Kiaser network so even work related issues were one stop shopping.

Thanks gatekeeper 🙂 You are good at your job. I think a true fan knows when its team is being held back, either by ownership, a players lack of ability, $$ or all the above. A true fan criticizes, wants and expects more then doing the same thing over and over, only a rube and sheep follows blindly. So, call me what you want, but I’m as true a fan as they come. Will never be a fanatic for another team, thats a fan. Its called caring. And me watching more or less because the most important player on the team aint it, has nothing to do with me being a fan.

Look dude, I was declaring how I felt, and got called out for not being a true fan because of it. If thats not gate keeping, idk what is.

I can tell you a fact right now, Kirk will never play in a SB as a starting QB outside of another QBs injury, ever. And Im a Vikings fan, and I want to see a SB. Do you see where things conflict? Now, I dont have a crystal ball, but I do have history and mounds of tape that back me up. If you feel other wise, we can make a bet. If not, then let my declarative truths be what they are, truths. Or, just keep scrolling, like I tell anyone else that has a problem with me on here.

You mentioned playing 9 man. I have heard stories in Nebraska of 6 man football… if you had a running back who was a state qualifying sprinter on your team he’d have like 4-500 yards a game lol. Just pitch it to him… no one can catch him… hahaha.

Pretty much – comes down to lack of players and a lack of skill position players, in particular kids that can throw the football well. Every team has a kid that can outrun everyone. You see a lot of T-formation and single-wing concepts in 6/8 man. Incredibly run-heavy. Part of the reason you rarely see a QB from the state of Nebraska go on into the NCAA or the NFL – it happens, but it’s rare.

In good news, my smoker has not been working for awhile. I suspected the regulator but didn’t get around to tearing into it. Finally did the other night so I could fire up the turkey fryer to boil my antelope head. 5 screws and about 5 minutes and she’s working like a charm. Same here, use the ATV trailer as a platform to skin and 1/4, then in cooler with ice.

We were only a couple of miles from a town so we just ran in and grabbed a few bags of ice. I just threw a bag in the chest cavity, wrapped him in a tarp and piled a couple of bags on top of him. 20 minute drive home, hang skin. Let him cool overnight and cut him up first thing the next morning.

That is good news. Part of why I went with the Kamado and barrel smokers is that there are zero parts that are powered. I am terrible at fixing things that require tools.

I have a simple upright propane smoker so I can take it to the mountains and not have to run my generator. Fresh smoked chicken and ribs while sitting in the mountains is pretty awesome.

I don’t have that problem because we don’t have any family around and not many people go camping with us, but that would suck. Luckily my smoker is small so I couldn’t feed a large group anyway.

Who else are you rooting for, if anyone? I will always cheer for the Vikings, but have zero expectations until we have a new QB.

49rs and Lions are my NFC teams, and KC and Bengals are my AFC teams.

all 4 have better QBs than we do. Goff is the worst of the bunch

I left Minnesota when I joined the Navy in ’85, so it was hard to follow the North Stars over their past few seasons before they left for Dallas (at which point, I dropped them like a rock) and then the Wild during the early years. But since I figured out midway through the 2021-22 season that my ESPN+ subscription allowed me to stream most games for free, I’ve gotten into the Wild a lot more and my youngest daughter is now a huge fan.

It’s been fun and they’re an easy squad to cheer for, although I’m looking forward to their salary cap situation improving once the 2025-26 season rolls around. They’ve got one of the better pipelines of young talent up and coming. They should be competitive this year and good enough to make the playoffs, although barring a surprise surge I’m not sure they’ll make a very deep run. Most likely a rerun of one and done, unless they can get much better production from their offense. We’ll see…
