Vikings news

Justin Jefferson says he wants Justin Fields as QB, calls him “dominant”

Sam Darnolds is signing with the Vikings

ESPN people discuss Haul of All Hauls trade for JJ

Vikings sign Aaron Jones

FA grades from yesterday, Jones – A, Darnold – C, should be an F

Regarding Danielle Hunter

His productivity will be missed, no question. He was an incredibly productive player he developed quickly into an all pro. The way he carried himself will not be missed within two years of signing a nice extension early in his career he became disgruntled, surly, and somewhat of a malcontent despite having multiple years left on his contract and of course this was in the middle of back to back season ending injuries, which probably made things even more urgent for him. He got a nice 2 year 49 mil deal with Houston. I wish him the best but have conflicted feelings overall about him.

QOTD

If Darnold is the QB, and the Vikings can’t get one of the top 4 QBs, how bad are the Vikings and how much more likely is it that JJ is traded?

Don’t Be a rICHARD:

Enough name calling and nonsense. I will start deleting comments that are clearly intended to offend others, seriously, its childish and ridicuous.

Media Selection:

Thread Guidelines

  • Keep politics out. We are adults, news happens, and we can talk about it. What we don’t want is to go down the rabbit holes and turn a productive conversation into name calling and personal attacks.
  • Be cool to one another. Like it says above, just be civil. You don’t need to agree with everyone and that’s fine, you also don’t need to make it personal. Attack the argument not the poster.
  • Keep the NSFW to a minimum. We don’t need anyone getting in trouble at work for hanging out here.
  • All in all, be adults. Treat each other with respect and things will be fine. Mods will take out content they feel is pushing the boundary. If you want to reach out about something feel free to ask. We want to have robust discussions, that’s why we’re here. Just be civil and cool to one another.

Per Adam Schefter, after agreeing to a deal with the 49ers, former Chargers and Vikings LB Eric Kendricks has decided to go to the Dallas Cowboys instead, per sources. Mike Zimmer wanted Kendricks to help run his defense and Kendricks preferred to play in Dallas.

Bobby Wagner is signing with the Redskins on a 1-year deal worth a max value of $8.5M, a deal that includes $6M in guarantees. Moving from Washington to Washington.

Honestly, no we don’t. Wagner has been one of the best linebackers in the league for years. I mean dominant. We’ll see if any of the linebackers KAM is bringing in, end up being a real force or not.

SoCal and I were talking about this. JJ is on his 5th year option and due to make $19.7M this year. If he doesn’t want to sign a contract for next year and beyond (contract not to his liking) the Vikings could franchise tag him in 2025, and actually 2026 if they wanted to. Of course JJ could refuse to sign the franchise tag and sit out, but that doesn’t do anyone any good. He could try and force a trade or something too.

Hard to keep an unhappy player.
They could quietly console themselves with all the $$ they are making (ala Ant) or they can become distraction or even a locker room issue.
Or the team can try to get as much as possible to move on from them.

With as much attention as JJ gets I don’t see option #1 media is going to be reading the tea leaves and asking questions constantly.

With “good” coaching, to include discipline of playing in the system, think he could throw for 4000 yards.

Yeah, in his career, he’s played in 66 games, has a 59.7% completion rate, 63 TD’s and 56 interceptions. His career passer rating is 78.3.

I get he has played on bad teams, but his stats are really poor.

He can move, and he has a strong arm for sure. The question is, can he actually get his game to an average level?

He has no interest in such things, now that I think about it. He is very, very, very earthbound with very, very, very little head-in-clouds.

Plans to go to electrician school. Hope it works out for him. He is also very, very, very shy, so I think the main challenge he will face is making it through a job interview. Very, very, very taciturn, too.

That is one reason I continually goof on him, trying to get him to loosen up and engage in conversation.

Hey MT, while we are getting medical input. A week ago I ran for the first time around 2 and a half miles. No pain. Made supper, no pain. Sat down to eat supper, no pain. Got up from supper and my left pinky toe has hurt ever since. Yesterday went for like a 2 or 3 mile walk to see if it made it much worse… I mean it was stiff and sore waking up this morning but it’s not unbearable just irritated.. it’s nice… I WANT TO RUN!!!

Perhaps some. I ran for years and at various times seemed to get little nagging type things as you have. “Most” of the time just kept running and it worked out – esp. if you don’t have pain when running.
One time had plantar faciatus (sp) and it was painful as hell most of the time. But being an idiot runner, never stopped running and it gradually went away.
Run some, ice it up afterwards, and see how it plays out after a week or so.

There was a time when it was both. Couldn’t walk or run. Went to a foot doctor. He told me to wear Asics Kayanos and wear a super duper arch support.

Helped tremendously.

I have also taken to icing my feet after a run on a semi-regular basis, along with sucking it up on some brief stretching before and after.

I am simply at the preventive maintenance point in life…

Wrenage they will Xray your finger from 3 angles to make sure it isn’t broken, then they will set it and brace it, then they will Xray your finger again from 3 angles to make sure they didn’t screw anything up….

A lot of these are treated non surgically (splinted) these days. Per UpTo Date:

The majority of mallet finger injuries can be managed by primary care clinicians, but more complex injuries warrant evaluation by an orthopedic or hand surgeon. Commonly accepted indications for surgical referral include:

Inability to achieve full passive extension of the DIP joint

Full laceration of the extensor tendon (as determined by examination or ultrasound)

Volar (palmar) subluxation of the distal phalanx

Fracture involving greater than 30 percent of the joint’s articular surface

I had hot pockets, hamburger helper, spaghetti, pork chop with some kind of noodle dish and green beans, lasagna, kraft dinner, egg sandwich, pierogi, BLT, hot dog, hamburger, steak with baked potato, pizza, chicken wings, rice and spare ribs.

I never ever bought a TV dinner and thought myself quite the little bachelor cook as a result haha.

But for hot dogs, would by a pack of eight. First night four dogs with bake beans and regular chips. Next night, four dogs with can of peas (healthy right) and onion and garlic chips.

I actually never had Ramen until I met my wife, she would whip some up with some frozen vegetables as a side with other items when we were in a hurry to eat.

One of the first compliments she paid me was when (IIRC) I was running late getting off work and she said how do you feel about me just throwing together a couple of hot dogs and Ramen before we head to the coed softball game and I was of course yes that would be fantastic I can eat anything I’m starved, and she said oh you are so easy to please (TWSS) my ex would never have allowed me to make that meal.

When I was in the Air Force we perfected a breakfast hangover remedy using Ramen.

Double the water to make it more soupy, then drizzle in a raw egg as it was boiling, then you add the 3 mystery spices taken from the spice rack (as long as the spices were Paprika, Cinnamon, and Pepper).

HH would’ve been a luxury. I bought the much cheaper HyVee knockoff known as ‘Panburger Partner’

Lots of tuna salad, hot pockets, Jacks/Tombstone frozen pizzas, chunky soup, boiled potatoes and butter.

Lots of sammiches. Braunschweiger and mustard being a staple.

When I was a bachelor I had 1 cast iron pan, 1 large boiling pot, an electric griddle and a microwave.

I had 1 set of ‘good’ dishes and a hodgepodge of cups and utensils, including good steakhouse knives and cutlery that I’ve stolen. Still have some of the knives.

Mashed potatoes, meat loaf, hamburgers, corn, beans, chicken, roast beef, spaghetti, oatmeal, sandwiches with bologna (my dad called it “horse cock”), lettuce, tomato, mayo and mustard, cereal and chicken noodle soup…

I still eat that repeatedly. But now I make my own soup.

In healthcare I am trained to look at worst case scenarios, i.e. consider things that can kill a patient first and rule them out. Only seems to be pertinent in 1:100. (BTW this has been incorporated in many aspects of my life and drives my wife nuts.) Anyhow I am doing this mental exercise with the Vikes and KAM/KOC. This is what I’ve come up with:
KAM misses on the QOTF, after 2-3 yrs Wilfs cut ties with current regime and hire new GM HC they are given 2-3 yrs to bring their plans to fruition, doesn’t work out and new regime is hired. Potentially looking at vikings’ irrelevancy until I am way beyond Medicare age. I am not a doomer, but can see were the next 2 months can significantly alter vikes’ next decade or so. On the other hand maybe KAM trades JJ, gets a haul, he nails the qb, roster is stacked with starters and depth and vikes win 2 Owls in the next 5 yrs. Could happen.

And the early Charger game, we blitzed a lot but played corners 15 yards off LOC and gave up 400 yards.

I have been a critic of the Darnold signing because his stats blow chunks.

However, it is true that he has only started for shit teams.

As far as Darnold vs Mullins, Darnold has a stronger arm. His max Velo is 56 mph while Mullens was 51 MPH (of course Kirko was 59), The point being that he won’t float the ball as much as Mullens did, he can indeed put more zip on it when needed.

So I might me changing my mind on that signing a bit, but BenDumDum is probably right, he is probably “ass”.

Darnold has some arm talent… but his completion percentage and passer rating is way below average… and I mean at the bottom.

Can we get Darnold to run KOC’s scheme? It’s one of the most difficult in the league, and requires a QB who processes very quickly, and has excellent accuracy.

Of course, KOC could simplify the scheme, go with a lot more timing routes (ala San Francisco) and forego the adaptive route running. Just have a guy get open quick, deliver the ball, and move the chains.

JRobert

Yeah, I get that JR, but in KOC’s system, the QB has to read both the defense, and the receivers reaction (route changes) to the defense. There are several plays where a receiver has a 3 way go, based on how he sees the defense. It’s hard to master from a QB perspective.

Exactly… fit the player to the system. When Cousins came to the Vikings, he’d made a living off of using his TE (Jordan Reed) and Rudolph had the “best hands” he’d ever seen. So what did DeFlippo do? Made Rudolph a blocker, and took him away as a pass catcher. Dumbest move ever. Worse, Stefanski continued with this plan. Just stupid.

They leaned on the defense last year for a good chunk of the time. We bring in a much better RB than we had last year and giving Flores more ammo on defense. I guess maybe not totally meaning that we are saying it’s going to be a dominant thing we can lean on but leaning more into it I guess? Running game SHOULD be better, and so should the defense.

Lean ‘some’ is good and in fact required long run. We need a good RB, but our line blocking on running plays seems to be lacking.

We are supposed to believe however that Kirk has never won anything because he is just the most unlucky QB to ever play in the NFL and has been on nothing but sub par teams. Even though one of those sub par teams went to the NFC Championship game with Case Keenum. Just solidifies my pleasure that they have moved on and I can’t wait to find out who they draft. Could it fail? Absolutely, but it could also be the greatest thing to ever happen to the Vikings.

That is why we will be getting a stud in 6 weeks and looking forward to 2 decades of competing for the NFC Championship and SBs instead of hoping to make the playoffs and get lucky. If Darnold is the QB, and the Vikings can’t get one of the top 4 QBs, how bad are the Vikings and how much more likely is it that JJ is traded?

I am fine with trading JJ the WR and drafting JJ the QB and building for the future.

I would rather have Darnold at 10 mil vs Kirko at 45 mil, but we all know I have issues and I am wrong a lot.
The Darnold signing is a puzzle to me. Do they really just want him as a bridge QB while the rookie learns? If so, Mullens.

I mean I think it’s way better to pay $8.5 million rather than $45 million, unless the $45 million is to Mahomes.

you know i was teasing.

i’m still trying to figure out the plan here, i’m glad some of you are trusting kwesi has the right plan. i still see the guy who has wiffed in his first 2 drafts on alot of players. but i hold out hope!

I think Kwesi has been good getting rid of bad contracts.
That needed to be done.

But yeah, the drafting hasn’t been good.
It’s year 3, so he is on the hot seat after this draft.

yes that is actually a very fair assessment. i am glad he isn’t kicking the can down the road.

we need a steller draft this year. we can’t miss on an all pro for a guy who sits on the bench

KOC said they had researched Dobbs thoroughly, and specifically targeted him when Cousins went down.

How anyone could have ever watched Dobbs play, and thought he was a good prospect, I’ll never know.

Who else were they supposed to bring in? Wentz?

The point is, they researched, targeted, and brought in a guy who was in no way, shape, or form, suited for the offense KOC was running.

Sam Darnold sucks

I didn’t say he sucked.
He is serviceable.

But guaranteeing $8.5 million for likely a one year bridge?
Not a great move on the surface.

What is your definition of ‘serviceable’?

His #s match up well with Mullins so is Mullins also ‘serviceable’?
If Mullins is Serviceable why are we overpaying for Darnold??

Yup.
If the $8.5 million guaranteed is upfront, better to roll with Mullens.

Against a top defense in the league too…

Oh wait… EVERY QB looked like that against the Vikings.

I might be right??

Well since even a broken clock (like me) is right 2X a day I have one more time to be right today. I must choose wisely.

It is very easy to spend other peoples money.
And, when you are a government, you can always just print more.

At that point, you manufacture a war or crisis of some sort to galvanize the peons so they are just happy to be alive.

It would be difficult to concentrate on your workout, behind that.

I hate it when that happens.
