Man, that first half was a fun half of football to watch. The Vikings offense looked better than I’ve seen them look in years, as they sustained drives, looked somewhat balanced, converted crucial downs, and put 24 points on the board. The defense was equally impressive, as they held the *aints offense to 3 points.
That second half sucked. The offensive play calling became bland and basically horrific, it was worse than Zimmerball, and the results were as expected. The offense looked horrible, they converted almost nothing, and they put up a hefty three points in the entire second half. The defense eventually succombed to the Vikings’ propensity to suck against backup quarterbacks, and they allowed two *aints touchdowns before stiffening up toward the end and putting the game away for the Vikings. Final score was 27-19, Vikings.
I LOVED what I saw from Josh Dobbs and the Vikings offense in the first half. Let’s hope that the offensive coaching staff can figure out a way to play four quarters of football instead of only two, because two quarters of offense will not be enough to be beat the better teams in the league. Thankfully, it was only the *aints.
Hey, the Vikings won and they’re now 6-4. Next up, the Broncos. SKOL!!!!!!!!!!!
Minnesota Vikings Discussion Topic of the Day
What went wrong in the second half yesterday?I find it hard to believe that every player’s skills diminished at halftime, so what was it? Play calling? Refs keeping it close (I sincerely believe that this happens, especially since sports gaming was legalized)? Adjustments by the *aints? Something else?

Thread Guidelines
- Keep politics out. We are adults, news happens, and we can talk about it. What we don’t want is to go down the rabbit holes and turn a productive conversation into name calling and personal attacks.
- Be cool to one another. Like it says above, just be civil. You don’t need to agree with everyone and that’s fine, you also don’t need to make it personal. Attack the argument not the poster.
- Keep the NSFW to a minimum. We don’t need anyone getting in trouble at work for hanging out here.
- All in all, be adults. Treat each other with respect and things will be fine. Mods will take out content they feel is pushing the boundary. If you want to reach out about something feel free to ask. We want to have robust discussions, that’s why we’re here. Just be civil and cool to one another.
Cam Bynum’s Wife finally got to the US and was at the game Sunday.
Got to watch him get an interception in the 1st NFL she has a chance to see.
#coolstuff
Indeed
J Cook fumbled on the first play from scrimmage. Ouch. Broncos ball.
Allen just threw an Int.
12 – 8 Donkos.
Allen now has 2 Int and most recently a fumble.
15 – 15 after 3 qtrs.
Buffalo commits 28yd PI to get Denver into FG range in the final minute.
Final 24 – 22 Denver.
Buffalo now 5 – 5
Denver now 4 – 5.
Poor Diggs.
Denver missed the FG at the Buzzer but Buffalo had 12 men on the field so Denver got a ‘do over’.
Good the 2nd time for the win.
You can’t make this stuff up.
Sean Payton….
Okay, this surprised me.
https://sports.yahoo.com/sam-howell-leads-entire-nfl-234954182.html
He won’t lead the league after their bye week.
I’m probably late to the party but…..
Somewhere, MarkSP18’s head is exploding.
Isn’t fashionable to be late to the party?
I don’t know, I’ve always avoided being fashionable.
I was only fashionable if Uniforms are fashionable.
or flannel
Memories…
The Vikings weren’t the only team interested.

I don’t care for Jack Russel Terriers as a rule but this is pretty moving.
https://www.foxnews.com/us/colorado-hiker-missing-for-months-found-dead-his-dog-still-alive-by-his-side
I’d like them more if they called themselves Jack terriers. It seems pretentious to use their first AND last name, IMO.
Jack *terrorists
Anthony Barr is back???
The need a LB with the J. Hicks news.
They only have someone named Quincy Roche on the PS at LB.
So did they have to trade for him??
I assumed it was Hicks related, just surprised (not necessarily in a bad way) by the reunion. I think he’s FA, IIRC.
Thought he was with Dallas last I heard.
Guess not.
https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/report-vikings-plan-to-sign-anthony-barr
Sounds like it is happening.
A few mid-season taeks:
-Mattison has a concussion. Not sure why it took them 10 games to figure that out.
-I’m glad Jordan Addison’s dog hasn’t had any recent late night medical episodes.
-The Kirk t-shirts the team printed up before the Atlanta game are gonna have a short shelf life. But they’ll be a popular option at the Viking’s 2023 Christmas White Elephant gift exchange.
That’s all for now.
What a bunch of gatekeepers today. Can’t complain about the win. Can’t say the Raiders haven’t won anything in forever.
Oh you can complain all you want.
That doesn’t mean people can’t complain about your complaining.
“You are free to choose but you are not free from the consequences of your choices.”
I complained about the win a little bit, nobody said anything to me.
I wouldn’t pay attention if they did say something, so maybe that has something to do with it.
For SCMF and others who might like. Thinking about what we discussed about some of our political friends last week, just watch the shit show in the House this week over the CR.
If Johnson caves the ‘Die-hards’ will remove their support and it will be McCarthy all over again.
Don’t know if he can keep enough of the rest of them on his side if he doesn’t cave.
I will load up on the popcorn.
Circular firing squad 191. Count on a lot of drama. Army talk – a lot of smoke in the air and brass on the floor, but no targets hit..
Circular Firing Squad means that there will be ‘friendly fire’ from the other side of the circle.
The target may not be hit but ‘friendly fire’ is all but guaranteed.
What do you call our guys shooting each other?
Unfriendly friendly fire?
You’re right = best get a lot of popcorn.
2 things do bug me. Falcons got beat by Cards and KOC play calling 2nd half.
i have been informed you can’t have anything to complain about in this win.
kirk is no longer the qb. dobbs is the future. we won. NO COMPLAINING!!!!!!!!!!!
KOC has stated he did a ‘poor job’ in the 2nd half and ‘needs to do better’.
Personally I’m not entitled enough to complain about the win not being ‘pretty enough’.
But norseman/others can complain all he wants.
i was being facetious.
man, i have had a few posts today that were, what i thought, blatent and obvious sarcasm but everyone thinks the opposite.
what is happening here…
Oh I understood you.
I was just doubling down.
‘man, i have had a few posts today that were, what i thought, blatent and obvious sarcasm but everyone thinks the opposite.’
#metoo
Damn right snarky. I will.
‘snarky’?
I resemble that remark.
Get your ass to Idaho and calm down.
As soon as this school year is over Brother.
3 points in the 2nd half, that’s poopy. The play calling was horrendous, & it seemed to get worse. Every series was worse than the previous series.
The NFL sucks…
So from the Vikes Falcons game Vikings players were fined $19,000 and Dirty Bird players were fined $5,000….
Week 9 2023 NFL fine roundup – NBC Sports
So basically the win cost us $14k??
I’ll take it.
Anyone hear the Good Morning Football show this morning? The host lady from MN was trashing Philadelphia residents in a comment she made off script…then she tried to walk it back…She basically said Philadelphia residents are ass holes. Can you get fired for telling the truth??
Brotherly Love Baby! HOW DARE YOU!
‘Can you get fired for telling the truth??’
She is a Vikings fan, of course she can.
Depends on the color of the state – blue or red. And then there’s the science, which may say they are not ass holes, when they wear masks. Complicated issue.
I believe the ‘Hierarchy Of Victimhood” may apply here.
Just like Jews are oppressed but not as much as Palestinians.
LQBQ++ are oppressed more than People Of Color.
We have to examine all the oppressed to see who is more guilty-er.
#sadbuttrue
Oh those people from Philly are oppressed!
Certainly more than a White Woman from Minn.
That is why she could be fired.
Doubt much of a game tonight. Bills under some heat, in a bad mood. Will watch for awhile.
Jordan Hicks Hospitalized, Had Emergency Surgery for Shin Injury.
Emergency surgery for ‘compartment injury’. Still hospitalized and will not play next week, further prognosis is unknown at this point.
Kevin Siefert.
i got comparment syndrome in college, had to miss a week or two of baseball games. no fun. hurt.
Did you die?
If they filleted his calf probably out for 6 weeks. Maybe a little longer.
Nah, Freezey made it back in 2 weeks. Hicks will be back after the bye…
(think positively)
and that was with athletic trainers that were BARELY less skilled than the vikings training staff.
KOC addressed it in more detail in his press conference today.
He expects Pace Jr to wear the ‘Green Dot’ and have the radio in his headset.
Disclaimer….I have no Medical training.
BUT they did do surgery and it appears that SkolfromMT is correct…it looks like any time you do surgery for this it is a 6 to 12 week recovery period….
Hicks is done…surprised they haven’t put him on IR.
KOC refereed to it as ‘a procedure’.
Probably surgery as per Siefert.
Of course as a Viking Fan I am still in ‘expect the worst, hope for the best’ mode.
No reason to until they have decided on the corresponding move.
Who replaced him when out? Drawing a blank.
troy dye i think
Yes per snap counts.
Pace Jr – 56 Hicks – 26 Dye – 16.
No other LBs listed.
he ALMOST had a forced fumble.
if only he held kamara up a little longer
So if he can ‘held up Kamara a little longer’ he would have had better Karma?
How old do kittens have to be before you feed them hard food?
6 to 7 weeks.
This one has to be close to 10.
What are you feeding it?
If it isn’t eating hard food yet, soften the hard with a little water for a week .
We’ve been feeding it pate (I pronounced it pate with the long a sound & the silent e). We need to get him on hard food because he shits all the time. At least he goes in the litter box.
It was nice not having to watch Travis Swift this past week on my football channels.
The NFL has moved on. They even replaced their Twitter banner of her to Dobbs and their slogan or whatever it’s called is “In Dobbs we trust”.
Let’s hope so.
I’m skeptical.
I believe we will be back to the Swifty’s once again on Sunday.
Vikings sign Gaskin again.
i think the obvious elephant in the vikings room is that hockenson doesn’t like playing for kirk, but he will play all day for dobbs…
i feel like hock has more yards after contact since dobbs has shown up, then he ever did for kirk…
dobbs throws on 4th and 8, hock gets that first for him GUARANTEED
Going to disagree with that take…
i don’t know how you can….
Although I listened to Hock Press Conference and he seemed to be really high on Dobbs….
Well, if JJ only wants to play for Kirk, this makes perfect sense.
that seems to be the case, doesn’t it…
Sure….
all an act
Yep, you can see that he really hates him deep down inside.
you can see it in JJ’s eyes
Very obvious, I’m surprised he even stood next to him.
Better ball placement.
has hock dropped a single pass from Dobb’s yet??
i rest my case
better ball placement
Actually, IIRC, Hock was top 5 in the NFL in catch % prior to Kirk’s injury. Might’ve even been top 3.
but i bet he is number 1 since…..
just sayin….
Freezy are you off your meds today or what? This is a garbage tier take lol. Just admit Kirks not it, was never it, and you will free yourself and be able to enjoy the new Vikings post Kwerk.
Wonder how Dobbs’ ‘ trajectory’ changes during the game if his throw into double coverage to JA on the first series is picked instead of a circus catch by JA.
Also if vikes can win without JJ bundle him with draft picks to get #1 overall and get QBOTF?
Wow, that would be a bold move.
Going for JJ McCarthy?
That first throw to JA, I was on the road listening to the radio…They were saying yes we got lucky but it was an obvious pass interference that should have been called….
No, don’t trade JJ…
Yeah, that throw was a mistake that he got away with. Could have easily been an INT. Shouldve been, really.
Also I used the word trajectory because, few people know, Dobbs is an actual rocket scientist.
Ah, clever, I didn’t catch that. I see you even put it in quotes. Eh, it’s Thursday, waddya do?
BTW…..
I won the Skoloholics survivor pool. I still haven’t missed a pick in that yet.
And I am winning the Skoloholics pickem pool currently.
I am getting crushed in the Skoloholics fantasy league.
Your day is now complete.
Stupid me – what’s a survivor pool?
Pick one team each week as your guaranteed winner for the week.
You can only pick each team once.
So you can’t pick the Chiefs…. every week.
Only once the entire season.
Thanks. Must get tougher as year wear on.
It’s tough regardless.
Who knows who beats who in any given week.
Survivor pools are fun…I do one for the NCAA tourney…that is wild.
Same.
I’m usually out by the sweet sixteen.
What a survivor pool SHOULD be is a pool filled with live crocodiles where people go to settle their disputes. Both sides get into the pool & swim, whoever is the survivor wins the dispute.
It would cut down on lawsuits.
And until we run out, each member of the dispute should drag a lawyer in with them.
And politician. Actually, let’s just have the survivor pool in the Capital building. You want to raise taxes? Wrestle 2 crocodiles. Cut taxes? You get a free pass for a future dispute.
Solid idea.
Cutting taxes – must be a term from a different era.
Still a thing up here in ND, although they don’t do enough of it.
Oh yeah, lawyers gotta go in, too. Crocs are likely to go after them first, anyway. Shiny suits & all.
Crocs are afraid of lawyers – something about the shark family.
Ha!
Yeah, but what’s your Wordle score?
Survivor has burned me two seasons in a row. Out in the first week.
I like pick em, but it is a struggle for me.
I am doing okay in fantasy. I am the only one to beat the number one team. I’ve inched my way up to second place after a shaky start. Should win this week, as long as the Bills running back doesn’t score negative points.
I just got my ass kicked by kfey, it doesn’t get much lower than this. 🙂
Yeah, I guess I could have bragged about it every week until now for the pickem pool, but congrats on taking the lead! 😉
so Wonnum is a FA next year….
is he breaking out and will we be able to afford him? i wonder if flores could convince him to stay
Vikes gotta convince Flores to stay first.
Well, Quinn stayed with Dallas – so possible.
Maybe if Flores stays.
Well he is breaking out because of Flores so……
He might well go to wherever Flores goes to be a HC.
Just kidding, he will go wherever he gets paid the most.
i mean, if we don’t have to pay much with for Qb, or as much as we would with kirk before injury….
can we afford to throw some money at the Dline, i sure hope so.
They can surely afford him if they want, we’ll see if Kwesi desires to.
What do we give up on average on opponents run plays? Looked a little, didn’t see.
Vikings are giving up an average of 3.7 ypc to opposing teams, 4th best in the league.
Ok, thought higher. Not bad.
Best or worse?
3.7 ypc is a first down on 3 runs.
Seems kind of bad to me.
best…4th lowest per carry average in the league
Wow. Surprising.
Not really…NFL average is usually just over 4 ypc. Chicago is 1st, allowing 3.2 ypc, then NE and Texans at 3.4 and 3.5, respectively.
I guess I’m dum about this stuff.
That’s the first time I’ve ever heard you admit it. That’s step one to recovery.
😀
2 prime time games before bye? We must be good.
‘We must be good’
Don’t tell anyone you will spoil our Rep.
Yep. Just like the Raiders and the Jets.
Best 6-4 team in history
We may turn out to be the best 0 and 3 team in history.
@regardless of what happens, we know the Vikings would be better if Kirk was the QB@
@DE is sincere@
What is a “jit”?
Slang term for youth. Refers to ‘Juvenile In Training’
Hmm… Is that an acceptable term for anyone to use or is it culturally specific.
yes
Great question – it’s not a term I’d use freely, but I’m familiar with it. For what it’s worth – the term appears to be used by a member of Jordan Addison’s family (his dad?) not on X but I did see the surname up top was Addison.
I was thinking of the term that starts with “id”
Stroud vs Dobbs for the bowl? Be a pretty awesome story.
preach it, Stroud!
AMEN !
Amen, Brother!
Who is Megan Rapindesr?
I’m not up to speed on the latest pop culture trends.
Crazy haired psycho soccer player that thinks she’s really important and doesn’t realize that nobody cares about soccer.
And got beat by a 15 yo boys soccer club.
Oh, you lost me at soccer.
Anyone else impressed with Wonnum’s play? Feels like he’s been a real force as a pass rusher. Showed some athleticism a few times yesterday.
Absolutely, he is one who stood out to me on Sunday, he’s been a solid contributor most of the year.
Fans and a lot of national media are full of it.
Hearing all over new Raider coach Antonio Pearce is the answer. They just beat those titans of the NFL – the Giants and the Jets.
And now they are going to get back to playing Raider football. What the hell is Raider football?
When is the last time they won anything.
This is a very good point.
No matter how many wins the Vikings manage….we know that KOC won’t have to worry about being named coach of the year as long as the Texans or the Raiders have any degree of success….have to virtue signal.
We get to playoffs, after our start and losing starting QB, KOC certainly deserves it.
Not sure about Texans, but Raiders will fall to earth very fast.
Been to and won a SB More recently than the Vikings, that’s for sure
Been to a SB 20 years ago and won almost 40 years ago. Nothing real recent, but I guess that relative.
Perhaps we’re not the best comparison measure.
Perhaps?
Using the Vikings as a superbowl comparison against just about any NFL team is a stretch.
Ben did it – not me, just responding.
Yeah well, this was your post.
So as a Vikings fan I tread lightly when knocking other teams. Except the Pukers and Aints.
Are you being difficult?
Ben brought up SB comparison and I responded to that.
Raiders I don’t believe have won much for over 20 years. If for nothing else, we won the division just last year.
And I tend to tread lightly on teams, QB’s, players etc. in general. Good advice.
And the bigger point, if you’re interested, fans think they have found their true “Raider” coach after beating the Giants and the Jets. To me, that’s not exactly the Chiefs and the Bills.
I’m just saying as a Vikings fan, I personally wouldn’t be slamming a team for not winning anything lately….
Feel free to do so if you want.
Again, it was more of a slam at the fans, not the organization. Either way, not that big a deal
True.
Fans do get carried away.
House divided this week.
Wife is a die-hard Denver fan.
I was born a Viking.
I’m literally the envy of my other married buddies on football Sundays – no ‘honey-do’ lists for me, no apple picking, no open houses. Nothing but football. She loves it almost as much as I do – I keep a mini whiteboard in my living room and will often diagram plays to show her various things – formations, alignments, identifying man vs zone, etc. She’s a great student, loves to learn and picks things up very quickly.
I’ve taught her to despise FTP.
We have a mutual hatred for Kansas City.
I was clowning Sean Payton for being the scab QB that he is – in rebuttal, she did some research and asked me how the Herschel Walker trade worked out for Minnesota.
Can’t wait for Sunday.
You guys will get in a huge fight during the game and then……..make up.
Ha!
sounds like i need to come watch some games with you so you can teach me a few things too
Can he draw a diagram of a battery and how to use a wrench?
Hahahaha
Ha! I’ve kept a whiteboard for years – have a big one in my office for my calendar. ‘Madden’ also helps – practice mode is great to teach plays/formations/concepts
i’m not a lazy millennial
Nor am I. But I love Madden.
i was teasing.
i wish i had time for video games, but alas, it’s not for me right now, or probably ever
Studies have found that if you can’t change a car battery, you can’t figure out Madden.
I knew you were teasing. I take nothing personally.
If you didn’t spend days changing a battery you would have time.
I prefer jigsaw puzzles over video games. I’m cool like that.
Jigsaw puzzles >> video games.
Although back in the day I crushed Space Invaders and Asteroids…..
I was never very good at Packman.
Tempest was my best arcade game
I remember that one…I was O.K., but not great.
Asteroids….that was my game.
I would blow up all the rocks except one and wait for the spaceship to come out to kill it. I usually went full speed vertical.
I had high scores on our local machine in Brooklyn Park, MN.
Yep, that was the way to do it…leave one rock and hunt the spaceship… Of course eventually you would accidentally blow up that last rock and you were onto the next level.
Yes sir.
I was always amazed that if you didn’t go full speed, that spaceship would hit you almost every time.
I was such a nerd that I got a job at Piccadilly Circus working 1 day a week so I could play free video games.
I remember that place.
Which locale were you at?
I don’t remember the name of the place I went to.
southdale center. so many hours playing free games after 4 hours of work.
Asteroids.
Fun game. First time I played that was the day Empire Strikes Back was released. They had one at Southtown Cinema and I played that for 40 minutes prior to the show.
Back in the late ’80s there was a 2-man game where one person drives a moonbuggy picking up jewels, and the other person has a gun shooting aliens.
Can’t remember the name, but my USAF buddy and I played one day until we had all 10 top scores listed.
I love puzzles. Kiddo is still a bit too young for the 1,000 piece jobbers, we usually do 500. He loses interest in the 1,000 piece puzzles
Kiddo and I love playing Madden.
Talk to kfey about Madden, he’s a HUGE fan.
Boom!! Doink !!
Also, the analysis of a hot dog was legend.
Awesome! Luckily sweet sister likes football too, so we pretty much watch football all day Sunday, and we watch Louisville and a few other college teams Saturday.
Watch the game from separate rooms…
268 yards on Sunday was Dobb’s career high, and this is his 7th year in the NFL.
If he plays like that we will win a lot of games and he will be a rich, rich man. BUT why did it take him 7 years to throw for 268?
This is why I am still just a little skeptical.
because he has never had a guy like JJ to throw to……………………………………..
oh wait, and he still hasn’t….
OHHHHHHHHHHHH
I’m skeptical.
He will have some bad games coming…..
He’s Rich Gannon…and a rocket scientist.
So not Rich Gannon…
Right place, right time…
It certainly wouldn’t surprise me if he would regress to the norm, but for now I’m enjoying the heck out of it. He has more talent around him than what he’s had in the past, which certainly helps, and a dose of Case Keenum luck too.
Probably because he hasn’t been in an offense that throws like 75% off the time till now his ypa is pretty low
FTPs are surely aware that Jordan Love sucks and will probably take a QB in the draft, hopefully its not McCarthy.
Cousins
I’d have no problem with that
I’m concerned with this too.
@They will start a bidding war for Dobbs.@
That guy that a lot of people wanted the Colts to draft instead of Peyton Manning said this morning on NFL Radio that Jordan Love is obviously the answer for GB and their QBOTF. The team is just young.
This is a bit strange – must be great coaching (two different QB’s)
We were 0-3 with JJ and 5-0 without him.
KOC has done a great job!
You’re math doesn’t add up
Huh? Didn’t count the Chiefs game. Thought we started 0-3 and JJ was big in all 3 games. Didn’t we win last 5 and he didn’t play at all?
The Vikings are 6-4, therefore they’ve played 10 games.
Ben – I know. they aren’t mutually exclusive. Believe we can start 0-3 and have won last 5, and also be 6-4. But, there was a broader point here.
Ben Dum Dum.
*1-4
Yep.
Not sure why JR chose 0-3 and left off Carolina and KC.
Was looking at the schedule. I think bare minimum (barring a freak upset which could still happen) the Lions are winning 12 games this season. Every game is a cake walk until they play us. So, does this team have it in them to win 12 games? I can see them winning every game until the Bengals game now. I see that as a loss, and that unfortunetly would mean the Vikings would have to sweep Detroit in 3 weeks time just to get to 12 wins and HOLD Detroit to 12 wins. I think Dallas beats Detroit. If we beat the Bengals that give us wiggle room to maybe drop one of the Detroit games. Those last three weeks are going to be interesting.
It’s going to be a fun ride down the stretch! I hope we enter December with a shot at the Division…we sure could…and yes, Detroits schedule is soft.
Detroit looked great yesterday. They can run the ball!
Bit strange, after 0-3 start, and even when we were 1-3, many folks said we were dead, and only going to win 6 games. Only smart move was to play to get a high draft choice.
Five straight wins will change thinking.
And a backup QB playing out of his mind that no one saw coming.
That’s true , at least for the last 2 games.
And a top 10 defense.
Yeah, a lot of people, including Mr. KFEY I believe it was, thought we would only win like 6 games this year and laughed at me when I said 9-10 (even before Kirk got hurt).
Most realistic best case scenario is Vikings split with Detroit, end up higher WC seed and get to go play whoever wins the South.
Watch it be the Saints again…ugh
Very likely scenario unless we somehow, someway win the division.
That would mean the Vikings end up as the 5 seed.
Ahead of Dallas and Seattle.
I’d bet a playoff game against SF right now.
I just read something interesting. Apparently, Dobbs is a rocket scientist.
I thought he was a QB…it is so hard to keep up.
Really, Who woulda thunk?
Why do you keep posting this?
Wrenage has short term memory disorder. He cannot remember what he just said or what he just learned…so he is constantly re-learning that Dobbs is a rocket scientist….Sad really.
Who are you?
I’m a sports announcer. I repeat the same information over and over again.
Also, don’t ever shake hands with Adrian Peterson! He has quite a grip!
Just got back from SoFl and couldn’t watch the game. Checked in the 3rd and saw we were up 27-3, figured it was over. Little surprised by ending, but w win is a win and tha t’s all that counts. Five wins in a row is pretty impressive.
Read here that we went into Zimball and it didn’t go well. To me, sometime down the road, they are going to need a running game. Most all playoff teams can run the ball and in our conference they do it quite well. So, a little practice, and still get a win, is OK.
One piece of information not available from the stats. Chandler played really well. Now, his last 6 carries when we were in run out the clock mode he maybe got 8 yards…so his overall stats don’t look that great, but he was obviously better than Mattison.
That’s good. But we still need to develop a running game. Playoff teams usually can do something with the ball when they get the ball back late in games.
After reading this, it piqued my curiosity, so I checked, we had 125 rushing yards as a team yesterday. We may not have a workhorse RB, but we are running the ball well enough to keep defenses honest.
I know a few will say that most of the yards are Dobbs, but they are still rushing yards. And a lot of his rushing yards were designed run plays.
He has been monumentally better since…. ever. KOC not playing him as the primary back this year has been borderline criminal. I’ve been calling for it since week 1.
Anyone else cringing with every TJ catch yesterday? Dude was getting jarred in the ribs every time.
Yeah he got landed on there at the end of the 1st and it made MY ribs hurt
*aints looked as though they were targeting TJ’s torso.
The saints are still dirty ass players…bastards.
My two big takeaways from the past several weeks, one on offense, one on defense:
Offensive Take: The Vikings have proven they can win games and perhaps have a more balanced attack with a QB not named Kirk. The Dobbs story is awesome and if he continues to play like he has been, he should be in the consideration set for a long-term extension. The challenge will be that the Vikings will have to eat a $28MM void year dead cap hit if they let Kirk go. I’m sure they could structure a Dobbs contract in a way to mitigate that one year impact, and they shouldn’t let a 2024 salary cap concern dictate their longer term vision for the team. But potentially rolling with Jaren Hall next season should also be something they consider. If they think they’ll be in position to draft a potential QBOTF next year, then rolling with Hall would leave a lot of cap space to invest in other needs. And Hall showed promise in his, albeit all too brief, debut against Atlanta.
Defensive Take: Hunter made a comment after yesterday’s game about players finally getting a chance to be used in a way that allows them to be at their best. I think that says a lot about how bad things were on defense with Donatell, and probably even Zimmer his last couple of seasons. Everyone assumed it was a talent issue but this year’s team is proving it’s less about talent and more about coaching. For example, I look at a guy like Metellus. I re-watched the Atlanta game this weekend and also saw yesterday’s game against the Saints. Metellus is EVERYWHERE on the field making play after play. And he’s not the only guy who is having his best season ever. DJ Wonnum, Cam Bynum, Harrison Phillips, et al not to mention the resurgence of guys like Hitman. It’s fun to watch and a complete turnaround from the past 3+ seasons. Now that KAM has largely cleaned up the salary cap (with the exception of the above mentioned 2024 impact of Kirk), the Vikings are in a great position to re-sign some of their emerging young guys while also infusing a little more talent, and their defense should continue to improve in the future. They just need to convince Flores to stick around, so pay the man!
Yeah the defensive turnaround is notable. I also think the CBs they have now (Blackmon, Murphy) are adding something we needed. Murphy can be hit or miss, but overall they’re playing well together.
Would still like to be able to generate pressure a bit better up the middle without having to blitz.
We need guys not named Mattison running the ball… that said… If he’s hurt we have Chandler and Kene?
Couldn’t see the game so have a question – were there holes to run the ball?
Yes and no lol.
Mattison had one outside run that would have been ok if he just ran the ball. Instead he stopped just outside of the tackle, tried to go back inside and got tackled for a big loss. That pretty much sums up what I remember.
I was screaming at the TV when he did that. So stupid. I didn’t expect Mattison to be the next Dalvin, but I thought he’d be serviceable this year. I was already questioning whether he has poor eyesight, given the number of times he just runs right into the back of his blocker, but now I’m also questioning his thought process. That play wasn’t likely going to go for many yards but if he would have just continued to pursue the edge, he likely would have at least made it back to the line of scrimmage. Instead, he stops and turns right into the pursuing defender. Mattison dum dum.
I just laughed…..and called him an idiot.
His vision is terrible, and there are many examples over his career in MN.
Ty sees the hole he accelerates much faster.
That defense last year was literally unwatchable. I expected improvement with Flores, but the turnaround in one year has wildly exceeded my expectations.
That drop by JP Morgan, their rook WR, reminded me of Williamson.
Two of my least favorite humans are involved in the game tonight.
Evil coach buttface, and Wilson. Hoping the Bills destroy the broncos. Even though that sets up a “bounce back” game next week where the officials get heavily involved…..
Only good teams have bounce back games and the Donkeys are bad. Plus, thanks to Dobbs, the Vikings have the NFL on their side now.
Watching the post game pressers was fun.
KoC had to temper his Josh Dobbs enthusiasm and give Kirk some more compliments after starting to talk about how much a mobile QB opens up the offense.
Bye Kirk
I pointed that out when O’Connell said one of the main things they looked for in a QB at the trade deadline was a mobile one. Basically, Kirk has been pretty good, but he isn’t what we’re after and he limits the offense. Great guy, but not our dream QB.
Not sure if it’s a ding on KC or if a mobile QB gives them a better chance to win in the current situation because they weren’t going to find a good passer just sitting there somewhere, thus they could at least find someone who’s good at something. Does that make sense?
as someone who loved kirk, for both his on field performance and off field life….
i do enjoy the added dimension of a qb who can scramble. i hope to see Dobb’s get better every week, the more comfortable he is with the plays and offense, so we shall see if that happens or not!
Kirk is a great guy. I love the netflix ad where a bunch of FTP fans are wearing Cousins jerseys.
Seems like a great guy in all things that do not involve grilling steaks.
Great arm, really smart. Just not mobile enough nor able to go off script.
Going off script is the biggy with Dobbs. Yes he can run for a first down, he has also showed he can extend plays with his legs and still find an open receiver.
His issues have never been his ability to throw the football. Its his over all athleticism and that thing between his ears. Always has been, always will be. NOW hes going to be 36 and coming off a major injury. Anyone who throws big $$ at him his basically lining themselves up to be fired.
The FTP ad is pretty good.
I love Dobbs’ ability to keep his eyes downfield while he’s rolling out or evading pressure, also keeps in mind that he can run. He showed much better awareness last week. Other than that first throw to Addison that was almost a pick, he didn’t make any major mistakes & didn’t turn the ball over once.
What are your feelings if Dobbs is a warlock at the Church of Beezlebub?
oh this is a great question….
how much of a percentage did i like kirk based on his off field life vs on field life….i’m unsure…
i THINK i would have a hard time cheering for a spawn of satan, but i guess you never know!
Browns fans are cheering for Watson….
yeah he is one gross individual
If a person attends a Church of God, but at heart is a nonbeliever, are they better than an attendee at the Church of Styx, that at heart is a nonbeliever?
asking for a friend
nope. both are completely dead in their heart.
i get where you are going with this. this is why i’m not ONLY friends with church people….heck i am friends with you! 🙂
If they do not attend a Baptist Church they are all damned to Hell so it doesn’t really matter….
Tell your friend who is going to church to be careful…he might accidentally be converted…you never can tell.
I know the answer for me. I like the high character guys. Not only could I never cheer for guys like Winston or Watson, I can’t even stand to look at them. I don’t expect football players to be angels, but hurting women or kids is a show stopper for me.
Wilson’s arrogance last year, bringing his “posse” in, separate office, behaving like he’s a movie star, etc. was a major turnoff for me, so I wouldn’t cheer for him, but it doesn’t rise to the level of I can’t stand to look at him.
Well said Kathy!
Thanks!
Warlocks are cool
Historically warlock is male specific. Maybe this one is just in transition.
Makes me like him even more.
I still love you MT.
Why did you stop loving Kirk?
Kirk needs his hand held to run the offense and to keep calm and not turn into a head case/spaz. That’s always been his problem. I am praying KOC and the front office seeing how this offense CAN run and run well with out Kirk will finally help them see the light with moving on from Kirk. We can only hope.
How are we winning without Kirk?
We were told it would never happen……
We were told by many we would be sorry. And by many I mean two former Mods that no longer post here and one who is busy at the Four Seasons in Doah. (I keed, glad he’s okay).
kirk lovers or haters, i don’t think many people saw the vikings doing what they are doing without their starting QB…
isn’t that fair to say?
Well, actually a few us said that we would be around .500 without Kirk. I still think Dobbs will likely come back to earth, pun intended.
I was ridiculed and laughed at for claiming it.
Yes
Yes. I was hopeful that Hall would play well. Dobbs is a lot of fun to watch. I did not see this coming, but I was very happy that the Vikings were forced to not start Kirk. Now we see what a mobile QB adds to a team. Dobbs does not throw as well as Kirk. Still prefer Dobbs/Hall/SLOTER over Kirk.
I have hope that this team can go on a run and make noise in the playoffs.
I still think the Lions win the division unless they lose their QB.
With Dobbs or Hall, I think the Vikings can win a playoff game, or even two or three.
With Kirk, another 4th and 8 would for sure happen.
Lions gotta play the Vikings twice still if they want to win the division. I think the Vikings will at least split with them. Not sure what the Lions schedule looks like, but other than the Lions, the Vikings toughest remaining game is the Bengals and they look beatable.
is hall going to become that player who we never got to give a full chance to/see his potential?
either way. Dobbs has helped turn this around, as well as a really fun defense
Thats fair. But iv said for years the only way this team advances or improves is if he’s off the roster. Did not see Dobbs being start able at all and was actually mad when I saw they made a trade at the time. Happy to be wrong so far.
Oh….
And When Dobbs sucks for a few games, we are going to get……..
It’s fair to say there are lots of misses when drafting a QB.
No we said we wouldn’t win with Mannion at the helm lol.
No.
Several people said without Kirk, we were going 4-13
This was on the “go younger/cheaper” QB discussion.
But I think that was knowing who the backup was gonna be.
Ah no.
I and a few others said, “draft and play a rookie QB…..” See what happens.
Nobody claimed Mannion should start.
Had nothing to do with Mannion.
So what? A few others have said the Earth is flat… don’t listen to those people. loll
Maybe it is flat. Maybe it just depends on what dimension you are in.
This is smarter take than people who think the Vikings can ONLY win with Cousins at QB.
Some of that was based on our current staff of QBs i.e. Mannion and Mullens, as Hall was a definite unknown.
I don’t remember anybody claiming that Kirk should be let go and Mannion be signed as the starting QB.
That wasn’t even a viable option or even considered.
It was always under the idea of drafting a QB and letting them play. We were told that was stupid and we wouldn’t win because Kirk wasn’t the QB.
3-13 when we already had nearly completed 4 wins when we lost him? Amazing…
I got called out yesterday for saying the NFL likes to control games and keep them close for the sake of betting through timely penalties called by the refs. I was told I clearly don’t understand football.
I sincerely ask: Am I the only one who has noticed this the last two years? Or am I just crazy? Whenever a game gets out of hand, I always tell my wife, “Watch, this will come down to the final drive.”
Obviously players making certain plays and coaches making certain decisions ultimately determines the outcomes, but I think the NFL knows they can (usually) legitimately throw a flag on every play against either team, and they use that to their advantage.
i mean i don’t know if i can get totally on board…
but then there is a play where hunter is called for illegal hands to the face as HIS helmet gets ripped of HIS head, and i’m like ok that’s…….weird
And the O’Neill “hold” even got me thinking that. The defender bull-rushed into him to turn the runner back inside (very common). I can see how in the fast-paced speed of the play it could look like holding, but it was just too convenient, imho.
I don’t think things are as rigged as fans think.
But the refs and the league office definitely put their thumb on the scale by picking favorites.
Yes. I no longer gamble on football, since I do see this. Fantasy football does not count as gambling since I am aware that I am just donating.
I just hope the Vikings are the “feel good” story the NFL wants to push, and we end up beating the Chiefs in the SuperBowl this year.
I am fine if the fix is in, as long as my team wins, dammit.
Well we were on the screwed end of the hurricane Katrina feel good story in ’09. We are due.
^^very much this^^
The NFL is rigged. As my dad would say, “the only true sport left is All Star Wrestling.”
Undoubtedly rigged. Can’t believe there are still people who think it isn’t. Probably the same people who believe what the government tells them.
I spent a summer in Chicago in an Italian neighborhood when I was 20. Got to know guys hang out etc. I realized then that there was a scam for just about anything one could imagine.
There are billions of dollars bet on NFL games, somewhere some how there are people trying to sway that money in their favor. Probably some of it not above the table.
Don’t know who ‘called you out’.
NFL is ‘entertainment’ so close games help their bottom line.
They obviously ’tilt’ their calls toward making it a closer game.
Adding that the current NFL favorites can’t lose lots of games.
Not sure it is straight Cheating/Bias, more like ‘assisting’.
I don’t know about tilted, but guys Like Brady, Rodgers, and their teams, seem to get disproportionate amount of favorable calls in critical moments.
I don’t believe the NFL “controls” games to make it interesting, otherwise there wouldn’t have been 3 blowouts yesterday, especially Dallas NY, which is a rivalry game.
It’s more a nudge than anything. The players still make the throws and catches and tackles, etc. But a well-timed penalty swings momentum quite a bit.
In yesterdays game the announcers kept talking about all of the penalties the Taints were getting. But, the ones on the Vikings were more deliberate to the outcome of the game. Like Hunter getting penalized for hands to his own face apparently.
It has been going on for WAY more than 2 years. 2009 anyone?
Let’s talk New England Patriots football…..
Who is going to be the Patriots starting QB next year?
Josh Dobbs or Kirk Cousins??
Neither one.
The next starting QB will be Bailey Zappe, he’ll start Sunday
Saints this week, next week:

Anymore I just bank on the Vikes not pulling away in any game. I wouldn’t mind the run, run, pass play calling if they could actually run the ball.
Was it weird for anyone else to flip to the Lions game after the Vikes? I don’t think I’ve ever voluntarily watched the Lions play (aside from T-giving) when they weren’t playing the Vikes.
I turned it on to watch the ending because I wanted the Lions to lose to make the division race interesting. Sounds like they needed a sketchy call to get them into field goal range but I didnt see it
They got some “favorable” calls earlier in the game as well. NFL wants them to do well this year.
The lions are actually kinda fun to watch, and they’re good
I’m enjoying watching them.
Unbelievable that they called a run up the middle on 4th and 5…I don’t think it was even a draw play…just a straight power run. That takes some Nads.
I bet I know you bekah 687, I have a daughter that was born in June of 87 and her name is Bekah. Also she is a vikes fan as is her new baby.
Now that is a hell of coincidence.
And Congrats on your new Grand Daughter!
That is some Sherlock level deduction:)
My daughter is not named bekah, nor was she born in June, so I’m going to use some of SkolfromMT’s Sherlockian deduction and say you are not my daughter.
But welcome aboard anyway.
Good thing you’ve only had good things to say about your family.
Dobbs and the Vikings have faced 2 pretty good (top 10ish) defenses these last two weeks without JJ and with Dobbs scrambling to learn the offense.
Buckle up boys and girls, the Broncos are ranked 32 in defense…we should have JJ back and a QB getting confident and playing at a high level (and Chandler getting most of the carries)….we could score 40.
I wish I would have decided to take the kids to see grandma and grandpa next week so we could go to the game. If it wasn’t a night game I might have.
We have many relatives in Denver and CO springs, as soon as the schedule came out we bought tickets.
My wife’s family is scattered around Denver and Cheyenne, but I didn’t want to miss a weekend of hunting or make the kids miss school. Stupid me.
bowbunch dum dum
I love Mile High. Have fun. Please please no let down game let’s go for six in a row.
Actually, I don’t think JJ will play this week.
Think they are waiting until after bye week for maximum healing?
Yep.
The official statement has been “when he is 100%”…..
I agree with this.
i am very excited for JJ to be back.
and for mattison to be out….Let’s get Chandler and Kene out there and run them around…
Doubt it, games outdoors and the Broncos have actually played better defensively lately
The Vikings are currently 9th in yards per play on offense, and 10th on defense. Well balanced team. Flores is a genius, KOC should be coach of the year. Yes he got conservative 2nd half, but he basically said we knew if we didn’t turn the ball over the 2nd half we would win.
Yeah, but KOC sucks at playcalling so they’d easily be #1 if Bill Musgrave or John Defilipo were calling plays instead of stupid KOC.
You forgot the @ @
i forgot about DEFILIPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Clint Kubiak.
Lol yikes, he sucked. The whole nepotism thing is/was annoying.
A few thoughts about the game:
That is all for now.
Chandler is not getting as many snaps as of yet because he needs to learn to be a better blocker.
He doesnt need to be AS good as a blocker since our human statue of a QB is no longer here imo. That was the whole reason he was in the dog house. Get the best runner on the field and to hell with pass blocking for a mobile QB.
I prefer to see Chandler in the game a 100% more than Mattison. I was just stating why he isn’t getting as many snaps. Hopefully that changes soon.
I think it takes production on the field for KOC to change his mind, the wheels are in motion.
Is that a fact or opinion?
Good question. It was a statement by an announcer if I remember correctly.
I know there was a lot of conjecture early on about that. Maybe he gives up a sack, but he runs for 80 more yards + a TD than Mattison would have done. Worth it.
it is mind blowing how close we are to many interceptions/knock aways….
credit to flores there IMO
Agreed, but if you are there, and you have your arm up and the WR makes an amazing leaping grab and holds on to the ball, at that point, you did everything right and the WR made a better play. You can play perfect pass defense and still lose, especially in the modern NFL.
both those td catches by the saints were amazing catches….
the db’s hands/arms were there, can’t fault them for that.
Exactly. Which is why I dont understand JRo42s weekly bashing of the CBs…
Look at their grades. Some are very bad.
CAN fault them for that. Swat the ball if you’re not going to catch it. Your main job is to make sure they don’t catch it – you’re in front of them, your hand is there, play the ball. Some incompetence IMO. Being there is worthless if you jump and just swat the air.
Not the plays I’m seeing. They are going through hands, bouncing off helmets, etc. That TD in the corner of the endzone, Murphy was right there, in front of the receiver, and just whiffed and didn’t hit the ball away. That, or we see dropped picks every game. Gotta learn to play the ball and hit or catch it.
Credit for “almost” making plays? I don’t know, good position is one thing you can give credit for, but when you let your receiver catch the ball and make a huge play, that needs to stop (and probably isn’t Flores’ fault, the player needs to hit the ball instead of just getting a hand nearby).
Murphy is not underrated. Overrated if anything. Needs to make plays when he is actually in position, which many times he’s not.
Also, I didn’t say the kicker needs to be replaced this season, just needs to be addressed in the future – can’t trust him in the clutch IMO, though maybe that’s any Vikings kicker.
Re #5 54 yards is a long FG. The Winston INTs were basically punts and a better proposition field position wise than pushing a 54 yarder. You’ll miss some of those. He ain’t Prater.
Yeah, but he consistently seems to miss EP’s as well, and other easy field goals.
Has he missed a 27 yarder yet?
Touche. He’s not Blair Walsh.
@missing XP makes game more exciting, win win@
So what your saying is you jinxed Joseph?
Haha maybe.
I kept telling myself that Winston is a interception throwing machine so we should stop a few drives by picking him off. And we did. That was nice.
Thank goodness.
Its all but guaranteed he is good for 2 TDs and 3 INTs EVERY time he is in the game. Its a law of the universe at this point.
Same, even said it to my wife, “come on Jameis throw a couple of you famous picks.” He listened.
They had plenty of time left on the last pick, he just threw it straight into triple coverage, he must have been in a hurry to get home for some crab legs.
Chandler can’t catch a break. He’s had 3 TDs taken back by penalties this season.
TBF that wouldn’t have been a TD absent the hold.
You are probably correct.
was that the one that O’Neil got pancaked and he just carried his guy down with him?
Yeah, not really what I would call a “hold”, but I could see the reason. Not the Hunter call, though.
why oh why is KOC so bad at challenges?!?!?!
both his challenges were ridiculously stupid, how on earth did the people telling him to challenge the addison catch tell him to challenge that play…
Whoever is watching the replay needs new glasses
Yeah that was…never a catch even at full speed before the replays, he never held on the ball.
Boy you got nothing to do but complain about a fun win today huh? Yet im labeled a doomer when im not in the thread…strange
LOL
I agree it is funny, writtle freezy. You miss kwerk?
here is kirk as he slowly watches his “they are gonna miss me” fading…
Defense and OL are better, and Kirk is doing perpetual Tuesdays this year.
Poor Kirk…
He has probably called Kyle Shannahan and said he is now available to play for the Niners, next year.
I think that is where he ends up, unless Purdy gets them a championship this year.
Well, we will see how much Shanny wants Kirk.
Not sure how this plays out since Kirk can’t pass a physical until like June.
Kfey… the ultimate optimist
Nah, im just finally having fun, which is all I wanted. Something new that could have the chance to be different AND successful. This fairytale back up QB story will end sadly but, at least its fun.
But what if it doesn’t and it is actually a full fairytale story with a happy ending? (Disney style happy ending, not Deshaun Watson style.)
Old school Disney or pandering inclusivity Disney?
Old school. Disney is now dead and does not exist to me.
I think the fairytale ending here is Dobbs signed as a long term QB1, and the team drafting another rookie, and the QB room next year is Dobbs/Hall/Rookie
This feel better than the Keenum year. I have faith that Dobbs can and will improve in this offense. I had zero faith in Keenum long term
That would be awesome, and I am on board for this path 100%
The Addison catch was a bad decision, but little to lose lots to gain. He won the other challenge, so how can that be bad?
Because Freezey is a doomer
trust me, if the reversed that last challenge as a fumble, i would be crowning KOC…
i’ve always been this way
They reversed the call on the field so it was a win. Getting the fumble was probably unlikely, but knowing you’re not going to lose a time out, it was worth the shot. Who knows, maybe the NFL makes says F it, give MN the ball. Did you see how blatantly wrong the backwards pass call was in the Pitt/GB game? The refs get some pretty bad so take the shot. There was nothing to lose.
