Broke up the monotony of my runs last weekend. Had only been doing 5Ks for about 2 weeks. Saturday did my fastest 2 mile ever, 9:15 average mile pace. Then Sunday, I wanted to do my furthest run. Which anytime I up the distance I do a very slow pace haha but I did 3.5 miles.

LSD (Long Slow Distance) is a great way to increase your workouts.
Helped me get to Marathon distance. 4hr 11m but the first 8 minutes didn’t count as it took me 8m to get to the starting line due to the 22k morons in front of me. Berlin 1991, yes I am old but that just equals more good war-stories.
I don’t ever want to exceed 4-5 miles. Too many friends I’ve seen do the marathon stuff with their knees just shredded. I’m good with that lol. 2-3 years ago I would have never guessed I would have ran even a mile and half routinely lol.

Being in the Army at the time and being forced to run a lot made it easier.
I started training for a 2nd one with a co-worker who wanted to do the Oprah Winfrey Marathon in ’94 and I couldn’t keep it up. I just had zero interest in being that uncomfortable for that long.
The Army still had me running constantly but the pull of Berlin in ’91 after being stationed there in the early 80s with the wall still up wasn’t there. Plus ‘marathon’ had already been taken off my bucket list.

It cracked me up when the reporter in the post race interview tried bring up ABBA (his name was Fernando) and she didn’t even know who ABBA was.

I never understood the feeling of distance running and just not being able to go faster… always doing sprint work for football, everything was about kicking it into the next gear but I always said how disheartening it had to be in a race knowing you needed to go faster and just couldn’t… I understand now. Watching her pass these other girls and it’s just like, you know when you’re at your wall as far as speed goes.
I remember mocking running events when I was young. I was like, they are just running. Big deal.
Now I understand the mental and strength aspect of it. Those people are freaking tough!
Plus, the science is interesting, too: lactate thresholds, VO2 Maxes, there’s actually a lot of neat stuff to running if one wanted to really geek out about it.
Ben there, done that. It sucked to have run almost 2 miles and then someone comes flying by you and you have absolutely nothing left.
Last time I ran a 2 mile I finished in 12:30, that was almost 20 years ago, now I’m not sure I could finish in 30.
NICE! I don’t know if I will ever get under 15 minutes, I highly doubt it. But that’s OK. I only chase times to keep me motivated at the end of the day this is just to stay healthy and keep the ticker in good running order.
Well, I was in my physical prime back then, early 20s, 50 pounds lighter and regularly ran for military purposes since promotions are based partly on PT scores.
I didn’t know you got promotions that had ties to PT scores.
PT scores were reflected in your evaluations which were tied to promotions.
So not directly tied together but one effected the other. I believe my marathon helped me make E-7 in 7 years.
Back when men were men, we did all runs in our boots.
They still did up until at least the early 2000s. When I got to basic the first run we had drill sergeant filled your boots with water, then we went on a couple mile run.
Man, that just seems a sure fire way to blister up your feet right at the beginning of basic. I wonder what he was thinking?
We were told it was two fold, breaks the boots in pretty much immediately, and you’re likely going to get blisters anyway with the new boots, so might as well get them out of the way and reduce the chances of having them recur.
My Basic Company was going to march back from the range after a day of shooting.
The DIs managed to ‘get us lost’ and turn a 5 mile hike into a 5hr 20 mile nighttime death march thru the woods.

There were a few dinos that insisted on staying with boots for a decade after that.
its a piece of the overall evaluation to become a non commissioned officer, everything up to that point is just time in grade. Depending on the branch you’re in, competency tests, MOS (job), evaluation from superiors, weapons qualification scores, etc. all play into it.
In high school I ran it well under 11. I can’t remember my best time but I think it was around 10:10. Now it would take me 10 times longer.

I’ve probably mentioned before, but a great neurologist worked at my shop for a couple of years, I reviewed dozens of cases with him. His wife had a good job with 3M, could do a lot of work from home in Billings.
They moved to Santa Barbara after Billings. He came back and did a week of locums about a year later, said that they had saved zero dollars since moving, it took both their salaries to pay the mortgage, etc.
Same reason I’d never move to Bozeman. Easily 5x the cost of living there, combination of home prices and keeping up with the Joneses.
Billings isn’t too far behind these days or at least it feels like it.

Nobody ever said they were the best musicians ever… They were though without question one of if not the most influential band of the last 100 years. It’s just like Kurt Cobain was not a great guitarist, Yngwie Malmsteen could wipe the floor from a technical standpoint of almost any guitarist you put out there… yet almost everyone can hum some Nirvana guitar parts and almost nobody knows anything from Yngwie. BTW one time Sir Paul was asked one time if Ringo was the best drummer in the world and his reply was, “He’s not even the best drummer in the Beatles” ha!

I watched it, and the whole studio musician vs the guy in the band. It’s interesting in liner notes where you can see where it lists who’s in the band on an album and a different section, usually kind of hidden of who played on the album haha!
Studio Musicians can be great Instramentalists but that doesn’t make them the best live performers. Slightly different skill sets it seems.
I did not initially like Rashida Jones, but she grew on a lot. She is actually funny and a talented writer. Best thing Quincy did.

I thought about that too, the Bears managed to win 7 games last year with Fields and Bagert, they look like they got better and put Williams in much better position to succeed with Odunze and Keenan Allen. We’ll see though, I still don’t think their HC is good.

Right now that’s Bosa at 34 mil per year, There are several WRs at 30+ mil, Brown being the highest paid at 32 mil per year. I would say JJ is one of the best 3 WRs in the NFL so if he gets like 34.5 mil that’s probably market rate, especially with the cap continuing to skyrocket. If Addison continues to develop they’ll have a problem paying two WRs market rate in 4 years.

I’m not sure. Who makes the most significant impact outside of QB? I don’t think its WR, QBs can get by with good not great WRs, Brady did it his entire career, so did Marino. In today’s NFL, its probably pass rushers, especially elite inside guys, like a John Randle type, they are incredibly rare.
I would go with the DL disrupters, I reckon. They can really mess up a team’s offensive plans.
I remember a game the Vikes played against the Panthers back when Brad Johnson came back for his second stint. Peppers was probably the most dominant I have ever seen a defensive player. We were triple-teaming him, and he was absolutely wrecking us. I don’t know what kind of juice he got into, but he was NUTS.

I don’t know of another player outside of a QB who would dictate so much attention of a defense than JJ and I don’t know of a better play maker when you need a GO TO guy to make an amazing catch than JJ.
No doubt JJ makes amazing catches – the best.

Prime Adrian, Henry (maybe not anymore but for the last few years). Having a RB that makes the defense drop 8 in the box opens things up as much or more than having a WR that needs to be doubled.

Agreed. If nothing else, Jets is the only guy on the team that is in that conversation so you gotta keep him, especially with a rookie QB coming in. You do not get rid of the best WR in the league when you have a rookie QB. After JJ proves himself, then maybe you move him in 4 years, but Jets and JJ may be happy to work deals that keep them both on the team too so they can go after their 3rd SB ring together.
Oh I agree – you need premium players and JJ is clearly that. Just hope he doesn’t go crazy with contract demands.
My guess is that it already has, given Jets’ comments about wanting to get paid and no deal being completed yet.
I’m not sure there is another offensive player who dictates more to the defense than JJ, but I think there are defenders who can dictate in similar fashion to an offense, and they are not dependent on anyone else like a WR is.
Maybe we got a guy like that in this year’s draft!!!!

Maybe, it depends on what JJ wants, he can sign a deal like Brown with gtd money the first few years and then exorbitant amounts after, basically guaranteeing he’ll get an extension or released, or traded to a team that will give him another massive payday. JJ is only 24, so 3 years from now he’d be in line for another big contract, call it, the Kirk Cousins approach.

I saw something about it not happening until the end of July potentially because of some accounting thing with bonuses. Didn’t look into it that much though.
Jet can fly somewhere else for the moolah he wants, but I guess they can probably swing paying him at this juncture.
By the time we have to pay someone else JJ money, he will be kaput.
But if they pay JJ that much, I expect nothing less than him leading the league in yards and TDs every year, plus dominating in the playoffs. If he fails, it is not worth it.

Now is the time to pay Jets, assuming JJ becomes the QB we all hope for. Then in 3-4 years when his gtd money is gone and its time to pay JJ 60 mil per year they can look at trading him, giving him an extension, or just letting him go. It also depends on how they structure things, you look at AJ Browns contract and its essentially a 3 year 84 mil deal with the last 4 being unguaranteed with his final season at 53 mil. The only thing that really matters is gtd money, and what percentage of the cap you’re taking up.

Pretty much – lots of little details regarding who can park what where and when. Violations, appeals, illegal/fraudulent permits. P&T brought in almost 7 million dollars revenue in violation money alone last year. Almost 12 million in total revenue after including event parking.
A decent chunk of change especially considering not a lot of outlay to rake it in.
I’ve learned in the last few days that P&T is self sufficient. We get zero funding from the university – that’s why every parking space available on campus (and some off but nearby) have a charge on them. No such thing as free parking.
I hate that about Vegas now a days, almost no ‘free parking’ even at casino’s.
Last time we went they added parking as a ‘free perk’ when they ‘upgraded our room’ to a smaller one.
