  • Keep politics out. We are adults, news happens, and we can talk about it. What we don’t want is to go down the rabbit holes and turn a productive conversation into name calling and personal attacks.
  • Be cool to one another. Like it says above, just be civil. You don’t need to agree with everyone and that’s fine, you also don’t need to make it personal. Attack the argument not the poster.
  • Keep the NSFW to a minimum. We don’t need anyone getting in trouble at work for hanging out here.
  • All in all, be adults. Treat each other with respect and things will be fine. Mods will take out content they feel is pushing the boundary. More stolen valor news:

In 2016, Thomas Behrends, who took over Walz’s battalion after Walz retired from military service in 2005, penned a private letter to Walz imploring him to stop using the title of Command Sergeant Major.

“It saddens me that after your long career in the National Guard, that you did not fulfill the conditions of your promotion to Command Sergeant Major…It’s quite a title to have, when it has been earned. I would hope that you haven’t been using the rank for political gain, but that is how it appears.”

I met with a couple of Financial Advisers from JP Morgan and Chase on Tuesday and at the end of the discussion I asked how the Corporations Woke Policies would effect my account if I started one with them. They both tried to say how their Corp was not woke.

After I quoted them several actions and policies that I had found in a simple search they completely flipped the switch. It became, just because JBM and Chase was ‘woke’ doesn’t mean that they were and I could ‘filter out’ any woke companies from my portfolio (pro abortion, DEI, pro gender mutilations, etc.)

They explained that ‘woke/DEI policies’ were more about protecting the companies from litigation if they where sued. Corp could just say ‘see we put out the policy but the individual ignored it’, otherwise it has zero effect.

I doubt I am going with those guys.

Be a Boglehead, low cost index funds:

  1. Select low-cost funds
  2. Consider carefully the added costs of advice
  3. Do not overrate past fund performance
  4. Use past performance to determine consistency and risk
  5. Beware of stars (as in, star mutual fund managers)
  6. Beware of asset size
  7. Don’t own too many funds
  8. Buy your fund portfolio – and hold it

The site agent that was in charge of security for the event found the agent breastfeeding her child in a room that was supposed to be set aside for Secret Service “official work.” This occurred five minutes before Trump’s motorcade arrived.

The site lead reported it. I mean what else is a site lead going to do after the mess in PA?

As someone who has meniscus problems, they can be tricky and everyone’s body is different.
If I am 100% sure by next season he is good to go, and can think like there’s a 90% chance in 3 or 4 months, is it really worth it for some game reps and developments. If he is my prize future QB, I’d play it very conservatively about this.

bowbunch

Reply to  JRobert
15 August 2024 1:47 pm

I don’t disagree, but I could see them not putting him on IR early and keeping that possibility alive. Shoot, maybe he’s fully healed by January, Sam gets them into the playoffs and then gets hurt. At that point, do you go into a playoff game with Mullens or a healthy, inexperienced McCarthy?

JRobert
JRobert
Reply to  bowbunch

If we get that far – a huge IF – I’d be inclined to go ‘with what brung you.’
By that’s why KOC gets the big bucks.

bowbunch

That’s why I’m saying what if what brought you there becomes unavailable? Do we want a repeat of the Joe Webb playoff game or given the opportunity throw the rookie in? Yes, it’s a huge if and there’s no way to know, but at this point in the year, if you think JJ might be available in December or January, keep the ability to activate him there. Don’t hamstring yourself. If he’s not ready or needed, then leave him on IR.

JRobert
JRobert
Reply to  bowbunch
15 August 2024 2:03 pm

The issue I would have as this – if I were KOC. Coming off this type of injury, I wouldn’t want JJ to be doing much if any scrambling. – just one awkward twist or hit. From the pocket, is there really that much difference from any of them, except Hall maybe.
Just me, I’d probably choose losing a playoff game in the short run compared to long term considerations.

bowbunch

If he is at a state where you are worried about one twist injuring him, then he is not healthy and this conversation doesn’t happen.

Menicus tears are very different than ligaments and tendons because they are so avascular. They also don’t just build up with scar tissue and get stronger in the long run.
And healing is different in this respect (experience and talking with a lot of other guys with this). Rather quickly ,and for a long time, you can run forward and backwards really well. Lateral movement is a very different story and takes a really long time. Like for me, I could jog, even fast, in a month, but tennis or basketball still a problem nine months later.
And we had the conversation because someone posted and if question..

bowbunch

Reply to  JRobert

I get that. If there is increased risk of further or re-injury because of this injury, then he is not healed. I’m talking when he is full go, ready to roll. If that truly can be or ends up being in 3-4 months, then keep him available. If he is not truly fully healed, then he sits until next year.

I’m not explaining well. Y9u tear an ACL,they can do some serious tests for strength et al. With this, you do lateral strenghten ing and testing, more limited though. Appears fine. Then go out and make just a slight misstep and pain.
I’m just suggesting when full to go is not quite and exact science with this injury like some others.

He was condemned loudly, and mocked for his position on COVID immunizations.

He was never celebrated here or anywhere else for being a Christian.

He continues to be mocked here for devoting time to his wife.

I never said he was idolized, but nobody here demonized him over his personal values either except maybe Lifer. All the covid crap was DN days and I don’t know if I was around for any of that. Joking about him taking time off when the rest of the league is working is not mocking him for being a Christian. There have been many conversations here where everybody agreed that he is a great guy and person. Where the disagreements start is play, contract, etc.

Now someone posts a picture of McCarthy kneeling on a field, and labels it “iconic”.

I’m sad that we lost a year of rookie development with JJ. On the DN it is pointed out that this is the first time a rookie QB has been lost his entire inaugural season in decades if not centuries ahhhh Vikings it never fails. I’m also sad we have a dearth of draft picks in 2025 and am having increasing misgivings about KAM.

However, life outside football is grand, I love the cooler days as we approach fall and getting into camping and hunting season.

My social medias are so full of brain washed morans (RIP 5), who a month ago were 100% bought into Biden is the man and now for some reason don’t see issue with the fact they were lied to the entire time that he was as we all thought a brainless geriatric case. Then you got the other side screaming about Biden letting criminals in while voting and supporting a convicted criminal (there’s many other and worse things but that one makes me giggle, I know I know he’s innocent or his felonies don’t matter got it, white collar crimes have never hurt anyone right?).

Pretty big leap from not wanting overpay for labor, and “cheap illegal labor.”

Unions are powerful, and can cripple a business if left unchecked. They also drive up costs of goods to the consumer.

Have to find a sweet spot that works across the board.

That’s just it. Trump was rich on his own entrepreneurial spirit and family wealth (not getting into the weeds re bankruptcy etc if you don’t like the loopholes legislate them away) versus these f’ing politicians who have gotten rich from graft and bribery. Therefore, rather than enjoy his retirement and play golf he has chosen to run despite the obvious cost to himself, and I choose to believe he does that out of a sense of duty to America and its people.

I don’t think for a sec that stolen valor statesman Walz gives a s about the country.

PS if presidents can only serve two terms why is it not the same for the legislative branch. Bunch of c s ers.

I get old photos popping up on my OneDrive. One showed up from my senior year in HS, several of us were bought at the slave auction my senior year (1986), and the photo shows us lined up with shovels and pitchforks after we spent the day piling up deadfall after the teacher that bought us had broken a half section with a tractor and plow. Not only did I chuckle that I was the only one not wearing a cap (as my father said that would cause premature baldness THANKS DAD) but I chuckled at the fact that circa 1986 a teacher could buy two river bottom sections and a tractor and plow to break them with.

Multiple people have been arrested in connection with actor Matthew Perry’s overdose death, according to TMZ

TMZ reported Thursday that at least one doctor and multiple drug dealers have been arrested following law enforcement launching an investigation into Perry’s passing.

Additionally, multiple law enforcement agencies have executed search warrants and seized computers, phones and other electronic equipment to determine who supplied the actor with the ketamine that caused him to lose consciousness in October 2023 and drown in his hot tub.

Some times I think I should take up archery for ease of drawing a tag. Then reality hits and I realize I am not a die hard hunter anyhow and my skills won’t magically improve with a bow.

I also don’t like the mechanical advantage of compound bows, think it makes it too easy, like a cross bow, but that is a discussion for another forum.

TL;DR one of these days I’ll draw a rifle tag in Garfield County and will get the shot of a lifetime only to miss.

Here’s a hypothetical for everyone; what if we are in the playoffs, due to great defense and running game, and passing game struggles, JJ is cleared to play and is tearing it up in practice. Do you go with the rookie to make his debut in the playoffs.

Again this is a big IF.

Not sure about this. Even with Mullens, and despite turnovers, our passing game was stout and there is no reason to believe it won’t be this year. And this was without a running game last year. If we should add a running game and a ‘great defense’ we will be just fine.

This is a rational view of the situation. Losing McCarthy for the year is kind of a wash, because KOC intended to start Darnold all year, and not do anything with McCarthy until he was ready. Being ready meant fully understanding the offense and all the nuances in applying the offense against the opposing defense. He was expected to do that this year while holding a clipboard. He’ll still do that this year watching from the sidelines.

VikingPhilip

Same here. All depends on the defense at this point.

Even though Darnold was almost assuredly going to start the season as QB1, if he faltered (of which there is plenty of history) then we had the excitement of the rookie stud QB. Now if he falters we have the excitement of……Mullens? Hall? Ugh.

Actually, if we are going to have a down year, this would be a good year to have it.

Not saying it is a good strategy, but if we end up with a top 5-10 pick, since we don’t need to spend it on a QB, we could trade it to a QB desperate team for their 1st and maybe a 2nd and 3rd pick.
