As of this writing, the Vikings are losing to the poop eaters 27-14. The offense has looked like total dog s***, and the Vikings cannot seem to be able to hang on to the ball. I’ve counted 3 turnovers so far, all fumbles, and one of them a back-breaker by JJ toward the end of the first half that created a 10-point swing in the game, as it became a fumble-touchback turnover instead of a touchdown, and the Eagles hit a 56-yarder to end the half. Could’ve been 14-10 Vikings going into the half. Instead, it was 7-13 Eagles.
The defense was doing their jobs, but with the offense puking up fumbles like a newborn baby pukes up baby food, the defense has allowed some yards and points as the game has worn on. I can’t wait to see the time of possession on this one. Our offense is horrible this season so far, and there are far too many playmakers on the offense for them to look like this. Yuck.

The end zone rule has been around longer than most of you have been alive. We are only debating it now because we got the short end of the stick last night. The end zone is different than any other place on the field. And if we are going to give the other team the ball at the 1 yard line after a fumble out of the end zone, does that mean we should also give the other team the ball at the 1 yard line when the ball goes into the end zone on a punt or kick off? No, it is a different place with different rules. Here’s the key. Don’t fumble the ball into the end zone!
It was debated at the DN a few times, I understand the logic of the rule but I’ve always thought it should be changed.
Punts and Kick offs are different plays with different implications than the offense being on the field with the ball so it should be treated differently imo.
Sure special teams is different than offense but the endzone rules are the same. The ball goes to the defender if your punting and the ball goes backwards through the endzone or if you get tackled in your own endzone. Only difference is a safety in your own endzone and you lose possession if you fumble it through their endzone

KOC was on The Blitz (NFL Radio) earlier this afternoon. Toward the beginning of his interview he says something along the lines of, “you know, after 2 games we’re -6 in the turnover department, which is only 3 less then our combined point differential after our 2 losses…how crazy is that.”
Bruce Murray & Rich Gannon (the hosts) were cracking up, as was I. Overall I thought KOC’s comments were great. Hopefully the Vikings can breathe some life into his words. Remove even 50% of our turnovers and there’s a good chance we’re 2-0 right now.
So what should the rule be on the fumble out of the end zone?

But I was wondering what the rule should be since many think it’s an unfair rule.
Defense gets the ball on the 1 yard line, not the 20.
But that won’t address the unfairness question people are claiming.
Question. I just had an hour drive and was listening to Jim Miller and Pat Kirwin debating this rule…Miller loves it, Kirwin Hates it. I haven’t read the DN debate because I’ve been away from my desk for a few hours.
That said, what if the outcome of last night’s game was reversed. We won the game and a Philly player had fumbled the ball into and out of the EZ. Do you think the folks on here arguing for fairness would still be complaining about the rule?
I don’t understand why the defense gets the ball at all without at least touching it similar to a fumble out of bounds anywhere else. What if there is no defender even close and the runner just drops it? How is it fair the defense gets the ball after doing absolutely nothing?
Because if a punter takes a kick on 4th down, runs backwards out of the endzone or say turns around and kicks it up in to the stands behind him where should the defense get the ball, should they get the ball? Of course they should get the ball at the 20 yard line and that is the rule. No different if on 2nd down the WR, RB, TE, QB has the ball fumbles it at the 1 yrd line into and out of the back or side of the end zone that is where possession ends for the offense going either direction and it goes to the defense if not recovered by the offense in the endzone for a TD or a safety. It makes perfect sense to me.

It’s been on the books forever and my guess is that, in the NFLs mind, it helps protect the “sanctity” (or whatever you want to call it) of the endzone. It’s a “special place” and the game is based on crossing that line with possession.
If a fumble was handled in the same way as other parts of the field, I do believe it would have a bigger change on the game than we realize. Players would be much more likely to haphazardly extend or reach for the goal line, if they know they’ll get the ball right back if they fumble it out of the endzone.
Who knows…I could be totally wrong but my main complaint is that it’s too punitive. To give the other team possession and 20 yards is extreme. Either give the ball back to the offense but maybe back them up to the 10 yard line, or give the defense the ball on the 1 and force them to earn their way out of their own endzone.
Didn’t even that rule existed. We are likely to punch it in but give it to the D, Effing BS.
Not sure but what happens if a runner is reaching out for a first down (at mid field) and before he goes down drops the ball forward and it goes out of bounds. Where is the ball spotted – I’m not sure.
At the goal line, could see some penalty if a receiver reaches out and drops the ball. We do want offensive player to have control of ball over the line. Maybe a 5 or 10 yard penalty.

That is true and he might not get the chance with as good as Hall has looked breaking big runs. Cook will get some reps but now with the passing game being an afterthought he has some tough sledding ahead of him.
I’m saying from the experience standpoint.
Whether Cook is good or bad on the Jets is irrelevant to what Cook would do if he was on the Vikings.
Cook is on the downside, but he still had a spark that Mattison doesn’t have.
Cook looked the same last week, we’ll see how the rest of the season goes.

Let’s put it this way. The defensive scheme is better this year. Now does that mean we have the dudes up front to stop the Eagles OL from imposing their will? No. But they did shut down their original game plan of getting to the edges with Hurts and flying around and being aggressive, so the Eagles had to go to old school pounding the rock football and we simply don’t have the guys to stop that. If you enjoyed that atrocious passive defense last year then I guess good for you
I did not enjoy the horrible pass defense, nor do I enjoy the horrible run defense.
Yeah the thing I couldn’t understand was the 3 yard bubble at the line of scrimmage every damn run. I mean you have to stop that as soon as you see it or you’re going to get worn down and ran over.

I don’t know, I had an American Bull Terrier a long time ago. She was great. Ran around with kids, slept under their cribs when they were babies etc. Never had a single issue with her.
Issue isnt if they are good dogs, they are overbred and are born with SO many health issues that at this point are genetic and they suffer for it. They can barely breathe, very prone to infection are sadly, just a dumb breed of dog. Also not attractive either. They are super chill and nice but, other than that. No thanks.

Defense held the iggles to 10 points for 99% of the first half. Despite the offense shitting itself and turning the ball over. You cant expect them to be on the field 75% of the game and NOT give up points. I thought the D played VERY well for a good chunk of that game. First half offense is 50% to blame for the loss (yalls lover boy included). And 2nd half defense is the other 50%. For fucks sake put SOME blame on the offense and their turn overs. He was in the process of pulling away from the Center and the ball was knocked out by his Guard, and then he was in a position to deliver the ball in the other two. So he couldn’t throw the ball with two hands on it.
I would blame Cousins if he dropped the ball and fumbled it for no reason, (he has done this) but this year so far, he has just suffered untimely blind hits.

I’old school and believe physicality is a big deal in the NFL, especially late in season and playoffs.
Last year, I thought our oline was weak and got pushed around by the big boys. And frankly, I thought our defense played like a bunch of pussies.
Last night, we were playing one of the most physical fronts in the NFL. Wasn’t pretty, but unlike Dallas last year, good enough we could execute our offense.
On defense, we at least now fly to the ball and actually hit hard when we tackle. That to me is a huge improvement. Can build from that. Can’t from pussy football.
So, since I see a higher level of physicality, think that is a better trajectory than last year.
Just my 2 cents. Blocking and tackling always count.

I think we were running that very interesting 3-3 defensive set to stop the RPO’s by Hurts for the most part. One more fleet footed linebacker to cover the outside. I think the Eagles made the right adjustment though, and just ran what the Redskins used to call “gut” up the middle all night. Five offensive linemen pushing the three D-linemen back and allowing the RB to crash through.
I loved it…Flores is a damn defensive genius. I was waiting for him to adjust to the run but he couldn’t because he easily saw what was happening he just as you said doesn’t have the personnel to do it.

It’s painfully obvious that the turnovers were the fundamental reason for our two losses. Football is a physically violent game, played by huge men for the most part. When they hit you, some parts of your body go one way, some parts go another. That’s when the ball pops out. Right at the end of the play, when the hit occurs.
Fighting for extra yards is when the ball carrier needs to really protect the ball.

Saw that earlier this morning. Just awful and unfortunately with the increase in sports betting, it’s probably only going to get worse. I read through a lot of the comments on this Tweet and many people assume it’s Vikings fans, which I’m sure some of them are. But I’d guess a lot of it also comes from people losing money on prop bets and/or fantasy football.
Regardless, there’s no excuse and I’m all for trying to identify these type of people and putting them away, or putting them down. Whichever option is less expensive.
