There’s been some discussion regarding rookie QB’s and how people think they can immediately become great.
You might not know that Patrick Mahomes, despite his early-career brilliance, said that he couldn’t read defenses until midway through 2019—his second season as a starter and third in the league—and that he didn’t feel truly comfortable until 2020.

We have a credit card that we have had for well over 30 years. We received information in the mail today that they are raising the interest on the card to 34%. We pay it off every month so we never get charged any interest, but I can’t imaging anyone using a card like this if they can’t pay it off every month. That is craziness.
I don’t even know what my CC charge in interest any more since I always pay it off at the end of the month.
I look for ‘no annual fee’ and ‘cash back’ now when looking for a CC.
I have an AmEx I pay off every month and get $100 for ever $7500 spent I can use on anything travel related except food and gas. But any airline, hotel, etc… Love it. Probably also has a high interest rate. I wouldn’t know.
This card must have an unbelievable rewards program.
And since most all CC programs are risk based, and you pay it off every month, this is just crazy.
I haven’t seen any reports out of the combined camp this week, has Myles Garret beaten Sam Darnold with Christian Darrisaw’s helmet yet

I read elsewhere Darrisaw had his problems with Garret.
KOC said “Each had ‘good plays’ which is to be expected when excellent players face off agains each other”.
Not to worried – heard he had three sacks.
Right now he may be the best in the league. We aren’t going to see that every week.
But here’s a prediction going forward – because of change in QB, you will see slightly better pass protection from our IOL and a slight falloff from our tackles. You may have noticed some of that already in the later part of last season.

3 sacks in just a few reps would be bad.
3 sacks over an entire day of 1-1, 7-7, and 11-11s given dozens and dozens of reps would not be that bad at all.
Yea. It’s funny with offensive lineman. Like a 60 play game, 30 passes and the lineman wins 27 – 90%.. Yet, you read the next day so and so gave up 3 sacks. Doesn’t seem fair.

That is really stupid…it’s not like we are one above average QB away from the SB.
Hmmm… but Bow said we were going to the Super Bowl every year for at least 20 years with McCarthy under center.
I didn’t say every year. I’m sure somebody else will get lucky once or twice.
And that is because JJ is not an average QB.
The best I can say about McCarthy is, he shows promise. I can’t say he is, or ever will be a great QB.
He will be transcendent.

These are indeed strange circumstances – at least to me.
I have always been win, and win now, the future is now.
But after months here, I’ve learned (heard ) to be patient, we are retooling and this is a ‘building’ year. I’ve been beat to submission.
Now, our young QB prospect gets hurt. Not good, but not devastating either – lots of games to play down the road.
So where are we really? As NVB sort of suggested, we aren’t really a QB away from a SB at this point anyways.
I was just having a little fun at Bow’s expense. The fact is though, unless you have a totally dominant defense and a great run game, you aren’t winning much without a top shelf QB in the NFL.
Confused – do you mean regardless of QB (top shelf or not), you aren’t winning much without a stout defense and running game. ?
My opinion is even with a top shelf QB you can win (some) but not going too far.

If you do not have a top-shelf QB, you’re going to need a dominant defense and run game to compete.
Good thing we have one of those top-shelf QBs now. After his knee heals up anyway.

I’ve just got to get better at this internet stuff – my scouting around must be terrible. I’ve been looking at QB ratings and rankings for the last month or so, and I didn’t see any of our QB’s very high on any list.
Shit, I’be been looking at NFL QB’s. Don’t really follow the college stuff.
I’m just pointing out that the guy that most agree is the best QB ever said that JJ is the best QB to play for Michigan. You know, where Brady went. If Brady says it, it must be true, and if it is true, then that means JJ is going to win more SBs that Brady. It’s science.
I’m just pointing out that all McCarthy is at the moment is a whole lot of potential. I watched some of his games, and I liked what I saw. He has game. It remains to be seen if he ever shines brightly in the NFL.
See, that is just boring though. Much more fun to be ahead of the curve and optimistic. I will also shoot a 400 inch bull with my bow in a couple of weeks.

I basically save the company more than my salary every month, and no one else here can duplicate my particular skills.

So who gets the start tomorrow against the Browns? Mullens or Hall?
I’d focus on Mullens. Get him ready to be the primary backup QB.
I think that’s the big question. We don’t know who’s going to be the primary back-up. I tend to think it’s Mullens as well, but we’ll see. I’m actually pretty interested in seeing these guys now.
Didn’t we see last year – Mullens is capable, Hall not so much.
Don’t do something stupid and get Mullens hurt at this point.
Hall was a rookie, who was forced into action without much real preparation. I’d say we know almost nothing about him at this point. You may not be aware, but on average, it takes a QB 2 to 3 years to learn/master an offense. Folks watch young guys on the field and think they’re “there” already. They’re not. Jaren Hall has played in exactly three games thus far in his career. He still has a long way to go.
My awareness wains at times.
Do believe Mullens showed he can be a backup. Have no idea where Hall is in the development cycle or if he will ever get there.
But on day 1, we need a starter and a capable backup.
Mullens is in year three with the offense, so he has (or should have) the best grasp of it amongst all the QB’s. The fact that KOC brought in one of the historically worst QB’s in the league, and named him the starter, makes me nervous about Mullens though.
At this point we are where we are – you play the cards you’re dealt.

Yes, I expect the Vikes to be the bottom team in the NFCN.
It seems like a reasonable bet.
As I season ticket holder I am distressed. I was able to sell 3 of the 5 games I am not going to at a little over my cost.
Since JJ went down the selling prices have plummeted. I am going to lose a lot money on those 2 unsold games. Be lucky to get a warm 6 pack for them.
That reminds me…I finally got some Grain Belt Premium to drink, and then I forgot about it in the basement.
Time to break that sucker out!
