FTP did us a bit of a favor by winning last evening. The Minnesota Vikings are officially a playoff team. The Vikings completely control their own destiny here. win out, and they will get a first round bye. It all starts tonight by taking care of business against a Chicago team in turmoil. It would be nice if the team could jump out early, and get an easy win. No matter what happens, the team will look good with the white out uniforms.

I signed up here when this site first got going but didn’t like the clowns that were mucking things up in the comments. I’ve been reading articles. (Just like I did with Playboy!)
My thoughts are enjoy this fun season! It’s okay to cheer for the Vikes. We probably won’t win the Super Bowl but no team is “likely” to win it. Look at the history of SB winners and tell me how many favorites won it. Hell, I’m positive that the actual best team every year doesn’t even make it to the SB. There’s a ton of luck involved, including injury luck (see the LOLions I/R list). Have fun watching and rooting for yore favorite squad(s) because we have one little ole life…enjoy it!

If every team that the eagles beat, win their last three games, and every team the Vikings beat, lose their games, SOV tiebreaker changes.
No way for that to happen. There’s too many common opponents, plus the Vikings still play the Packers who they beat. The Iggles played the AFC North too and they play each other the next few weeks so they can’t both lose.
Well, I did a predictor thing and found a way that the Eagles edge out the Vikings. It involves a bunch of very unlikely outcomes though.
If I go with more likely outcomes, the main game I’m finding right now that changes the 1 seed back and forth is the 9ers/Dolphins game next week. Need the 9ers to win that one.
If the Dolphins lose, then AZ beating the Rams in week 17 does it.
Week 17 they also need Giants over Indy, Browns over Dolphins, and Cincy over Denver. If just one of those goes the wrong way they need New Orleans to beat Tampa in week 18 or Carolina to beat Atlanta.
Just take care of business tonight and go from there. Atlanta winning tonight would be helpful to the Vikings as well.
There’s actually a way the #1 seed could basically come down to the Bears and Packers game (the Vikings would need the Bears to win), assuming the Vikings win out.
As long as nobody tells me I’m supposed to root for the Packers.

Yeah, playing with that predictor, it is more likely than I thought for the Eagles. I guess just win out and go from there. We’ll see how tonight goes and I’ll come up with a cheering list for next week at least.

GF, you missed some good fishing. Part of our group got up there for fishing all Friday, ended up cooking up their catch and still limited on Saturday.
It seems like this trip has it in for me. Last December we got blown off the ice by 50-mph winds, then on the February trip I flipped the 4-wheeler and broke my hip.
Friday morning we got to Superior, stopped for coffee/pee break, got back in the truck and snapped a leaf spring on the ATV trailer going over RR tracks. Had to leave the trailer and ATVs in Duluth for repair. So, we didn’t get to roam around this trip, but we caught plenty in/near the shacks.
All in all, the past 3 trips have cost me about an extra $3000 combined over normal cost.

In this case the clock does not start until a player touches the ball, and since it is a kickoff the clock would stop as soon as the player is downed. The clock does have 2 seconds come off, which is probably more than it should have been.

I may have saved my teammate’s life in one when I heard him at the bottom gasping for air and figured out my thigh was right across his gut, I was able to twist and arch enough to give him some breathing room (literally) until the scrumming finished and refs pulled the pile apart.

I would not bet on that game at all, but with a gun to my head, I’d pick the Vikings. Might as well go down cheering for the Vikings than bet on the Lions and have the Vikings win it.

Lions straight up, Vikings cover the spread (depending on how far the Lions are favored – I’d guess at least 4.5, right? maybe 5.5?
IF we don’t make too many mistakes and IF Sam is playing well, with as many defensive injuries as Loins have.

With that team, a lot of it comes down to the refs. If the refs let the Lions get away with holding and being grabby, they’re very hard to beat.
The only way we beat the Lions is with multiple turnovers and sacks on Goff.
Regardless, the game is weeks away. A lot can happen in that time. A bad injury to a key player can change everything.
So, it doesn’t pay to think too much until game day.

The Bills defense is maybe slightly better than ours. Their offense is maybe slightly better, Josh Allen is a stud, but I would take Sam and our receiving corp over Allen and his.
The Bills pretty much beat the crap out of the Lions last night, until they went prevent and let the Lions back in it.
I would not bet my house on the Viking or the Lions winning, but I would say we have as good a chance of beating them as anyone else in the league.

My son is buying his first car tonight. My wife and I told all of our kids that their 16th birthday present is that we’d match them dollar for dollar on the purchase of their first car, so long as the car passes our approval.
The used car market is a little silly right now, but looking and looking can pay off. We found a midsize sedan that runs quiet and rolls straight for $2500. Can’t wait to see what my insurance says about having two teenage boys on the policy now.
Insurance of any kind is getting to be a joke. My car insurance went up $250 for 6 months. I had a speeding ticket about 40 years ago, 40 in a 30. Which was a obvious speed trap. I can see why they think i’m dangerous.
Yeah, I need to haggle with them while I have them on the phone. Tell them to convince me to stay with ’em.

i was able to save myself $1200 a year on my car/home insurance by calling my insurance agent and letting him know he needs to step up to the plate for me.
i was happy with the savings but also disappointed the way it works these days is they don’t mind gouging you until you say something about it…

I used to work for a major insurance company. People would call to update their policy with new young drivers. We would not add them to save our customers money. However periodically they do run dmv checks to look for new drivers. Then the company would automatically add the young driver. The driver would still be covered even though they are not listed on the policy because they are a part of the household. If an accident occurred while not being listed they would go back look when the license was issued, and you would have to pay back premium for said driver. That should save ya some money.

I remember getting hit by a young driver at the mall in Rochester. Turned out she had not kept up her insurance premium (one day past the due date) and so her parents stepped up and paid cash for the damage to our car, and said they would make the daughter pay them back.
Insurance is a necessary evil. Finding out that the teenager that just hit you doesn’t have insurance is stressful. Even worse if you should suffer a catastrophic injury.
Glad the parents stepped up.
Silly that the more responsible have to decide whether to opt-in for uninsured motorist coverage while the less responsible continue to drive around without valid licenses and/or insurance and cause accidents.

I asked my mom last night how her parents came to settle in their corner of Alberta. They were from a hamlet called Manyberries in the SE corner, ended up outside Edgerton in the mid eastern part.
They pooled their savings and gifts of money from their wedding and homesteaded on 1.5 sections of unbroken land, which cost them $1, built a one room farm house, and started breaking the land in 1923. No chainsaws and couldn’t afford a tractor back then.
About $185 in today’s dollars. Crazy. They sold it in 1983 for $400,000. Of course after they sold the land the mineral rights went to the Crown and in came all the oil derricks.

There seems to be a little internal strife in Philly lately. Last week AJ was complaining about their offense and last night the coaches were fighting.
It’s a perfect time of year for the Eagles lockeroom to fall apart with drama (and for the Lions streak of excellent play to begin to fade)

Now that the Bills have beaten the Lions, the first seed is within grasp. We need to win out to guarantee the 1st seed. Otherwise we need Washington to upset the Eagles and for the Lions to lose in Chicago or San Francisco, which is kind of a lot to hope for.

It feels quite important as even the front-runners of the poorer divisions in the NFC are dangerous teams. The Rams and the Buccaneers are particularly dangerous, IMO. The Rams beat the Vikings and the Bills, and the Buccaneers beat the Lions and the Eagles, so we know LA and TB can beat good teams. If the Vikings are the 5 or 6 seed they’ll likely have to go to LA or Tampa.

I mean, no matter who the Vikings play first, I’ll find ways for them to win in my mind before the game, and then get all glum if they don’t. But for now, it’s fun to look ahead and think about the possibilities.

It’s been 7 years since the Vikings have had this good of record.
I went to two games that year, had a blast. I’m thinking back to when the ’09 Vikings peaked. 10-1, maybe?
Without looking it up, I want to say they started 6-0 barely beating the Ravens (missed kick? Hauschka?), and then lost to the Steelers before winning a handful more. a 12-4 finish is unfortunate after a 10-1 start (if I’m correct). Some of those losses felt winnable. I want to say there was a Panthers game we should have won.
At anyrate, having a playoff spot guaranteed this early is fun for me as a fan. I like thinking about all the various possibilities.

Panthers. Cardinals, Bears – all games we should’ve won. All 3 were primetime games iirc. 2 Sunday night games and a MNF game in Chicago. Favre engineered a comeback in the Monday night game late and we lost on a Cutler walk off TD pass to Earl Bennett.
Panthers game was single handedly wrecked by Julius Peppers.
Warner and Fitzgerald burned us badly against the Cards.

I did not see the end of that game. I was so pissed at the way they were playing, I went and sat in my tree stand pretending to try and see a deer to shoot.
Came home, nobody said a word to me, sit down for supper and my sun who was 10 at the time, said it was awesome to see the Vikings win. I told him to quit joking , and he said now, they actually won.

They’re 3-5 at home this year. This isn’t the Legion of Boom days anymore.
There are other factors. Their crowd is LOUD and the weather can SUCK. A little freezing rain and all bets are off for our receivers.
Then it’s mostly up to the defense and Aaron Jones not fumbling.

I was not a doomer, but be honest did you really think they had a chance of 11 victories this year? I did not, I was thinking 9, maybe 10.
I assumed Sam would be average and we’d have an average record (8-10 wins).
I picked the team as a Wildcard team with 9-10 wins. I bet the over at 7.5 (prior to JJ getting hurt) and I am very happy with the season so far.

Because of how they have to line up for the current kick off it wouldn’t make sense to have a surprise onside, it just wouldn’t work. So if they want to try that they have to declare .
It is due to the way the kickoff lines line up, at the 40 yard line. to do an onside kick the kicking team would need to line up where the ball is being placed for the kick.
