appy post-win Monday, everyone, and welcome to Skoloholics, your home for Minnesota Vikings Discussion. Everyday you can join us for Minnesota Vikings news, Minnesota Vikings talk, NFL news and updates, and all of those other things that you have on your mind. At Skoloholics, the real action is in the comments, so if you haven’t checked out the comments section yet, sign up and join the conversation. As always, remember to be cool to one another.

Hey, what a great game yesterday! This team is a lot of fun to watch, they’re actually competent on both sides of the ball, they can run and pass the ball, and the coaching staff seems to actually know what they’re doing. We’re Vikings fans, so we ALL know that the wheels can come off at the drop of a hat, BUT I sure am enjoying watching this team this year.

Vikings/NFL News and Updates

Here is our Vikings vs. 49ers post-game wrap-up.

See highlights of Vikings vs. 49ers, and check out player & coach interviews and more at the Vikings.com media vault.

Catch up on all the NFL week 2 scores and highlights, courtesy of NFL.com. Many upsets in the NFL this week, my pick ’em schedule has a lot of red marks on it.

Media Selection

Let’s continue our long-standing tradition of playing the Vikings fight song the day after a victory, hopefully we play this many more times this season. STRIKE UP THE BAND!!!!!!!

Thread Guidelines

  • Keep politics out. We are adults, news happens, and we can talk about it. What we don’t want is to go down the rabbit holes and turn a productive conversation into name calling and personal attacks.
  • Be cool to one another. Like it says above, just be civil. You don’t need to agree with everyone and that’s fine, you also don’t need to make it personal. Attack the argument not the poster.
  • Keep the NSFW to a minimum. We don’t need anyone getting in trouble at work for hanging out here.
  • All in all, be adults. Treat each other with respect and things will be fine. Mods will take out content they feel is pushing the boundary. If you want to reach out about something feel free to ask. We want to have robust discussions, that’s why we’re here. Just be civil and cool to one another.

Philly up by 6 with 1:39 left.
ATL gets the ball at the 30, need a TD to win. Kirko makes a few really good throws to start the drive, and get the team to the 12 yard line with 48 seconds left.
TD throw on point. The return of Kirko chainz.

It was an entertaining game.

3 FGs for Atlanta,
Usually if you continue to fail to punch it in it comes back to bite you.
Hope not in this case as it would be much better for the poopeaters to lose.

So about 26m people think violence is ok to stop Trump.
Wonder how many of those are conservative?

The poll, released by the University of Chicago via the Chicago Project on Security and Threats, found that 26 million Americans believe “the use of force” is justified to keep Trump from regaining the presidency. Of the 26 million, the poll found, nine million have guns, and 22 million have access to “internet organizational tools.”

You wonder why people think this way now. Someone recently told me this – said from the communist manifesto.
First, you get control of the education system
You then remove God and religion from public institutions.
Then you get control of the press and the narrative.
And then the government controlled by a few elites can run everything and everyone is dependent on government.
Makes some sense to me and can see the direction of all of this.

It will work to get a ‘few elites’ in control.
But then it falls apart, unless you have a cabal of assistants/believers pulling the strings for them.
I call it the ‘Obama Method’.

I heard a story about a team that showed up for a game with a uniform that had a ‘football logo’ on the chest. It was like back in the 30s or so. It looked like everyone was carrying a football.
Other team said if they were not removed then there would be no game. I always thought it was a decent idea, if it had worked.

Can’t argue with a truthful statement. But, In Cousins first year in 18 didn’t we first win against Niners and then TIE the Packers where our kicker missed a FG at end of game, and two in OT. And Cousins threw for 425 and 4 TD’s in that game.
Sometimes context matters.

There have been 6 teams to start the year 5-0 and miss the playoffs since the beginning of the 12-team playoffs in 1990.

Final RECORD
2016 Minnesota Vikings. 8-8
2015 Atlanta Falcons 8-8
2009New York Giants 8-8
2009 Denver Broncos 8-8
2003Minnesota Vikings 9-7

Yup, gotta pump the brakes a little. Enjoy what we’re seeing while it’s happening but after many years of heartbreak when they were doing well still lingers in my mind. I will say though, I think this coaching staff might finally be the ones that could get it done. KOC seems to be getting better in about everything that comes with coaching as each week goes by, and B-flo has this defense balling out. I sure hope he stays around for a while.

Probably, but not necessarily.
If its a tie breaker with a divisional foe, there will be the same NFC/AFC games.

Divisional teams play the same schedule with the exception of 3 games. Two from the NFC and one from the AFC.

Yes, but the odds are the division will sort itself out with head to head and then the odds of tying another team in the NFC that also played let’s say Houston are slim. Just grasping at the more likely situation should they somehow be in the hunt for a high seed. They’ll handle the division by sweeping the Lions, then they just have to beat the east and south champs on tie breakers or just outright record.

Looks like the Panthers are benching former No. 1 overall pick Bryce Young and starting veteran Andy Dalton beginning this week.

Coach Dave Canales has repeatedly said “Bryce is our quarterback.” But with the season quickly slipping away, Canales decided to make a change.

Dunno, but read this:

He’s a full-field reader whose confident demeanor on the field oozes off the tape but never becomes unbridled cockiness. He’s thoughtful in where he wants to go with the football and keeps the turnover count low. The deep ball is nothing special and his drive velocity fails to stand out, but he has enough arm strength to make the necessary throws. Young is perfectly capable of extending plays both inside and outside the pocket, but teams will want him to stay on schedule a little more often as a pro passer. He’s poised in the face of both physical and situational pressure and possesses a full offering of intangibles that helps set him apart from some of the more physically gifted quarterbacks in this class.”

Sounds like a lot of flowery blather to me.

On Friday my wife, the packing wizard, is going to go down and help the DIL pack up and check out of the Ronald McDonald House. Then they are going to head back up here on Saturday and spend the night so they can go to our Sunday School picnic on Sunday. That way all of the people at our church that have been praying for him can finally meet him. Then they are heading back to Madison to spend the night with one of her sisters and pick up a SIL that will be driving back with them so she doesn’t have to drive with 2 kids and dog all by herself. Early Monday morning they are going to be heading back to JBLM to reunited with our son. It will take them 2 or 3 days to make the nearly 2000 mile drive.

Carpet attracts to much goop and he needs to have a regulated temp. Central air is not common in the Pacific Northwest especially on base. I guess there is good reason why I call them the pukers.

During the second quarter with the Green Bay offense at third down and 10, center Josh Myers appeared to vomit on the field before immediately snapping the ball to Willis.

Instead of throwing the football – as is common on third and long – Willis took off and ran, gaining around three yards before being tackled. According to Packers head coach Matt LeFleur, Willis explained that he elected to run because Myers had actually thrown up on the football itself.

“I asked Malik why he didn’t throw the ball on that third down, and he told me Josh threw up on the ball,” said LaFleur. “I was like, ‘That’s the first time I ever heard that!’

“The official came over to me, and said, ‘We saw your center throwing up on the ball, do you want us to take him out next time?’ I said, ‘Absolutely, please do that,’ because you’re talking about a critical situation, and it’s third down, and I’ve never had to throw with vomit on the football. Malik probably didn’t appreciate that.”

can someone explain to me what the “Void Years” in Sam Darnolds contract means?
2025, 2026, 2027, 2028 all show “Void Years”

Stephon Gilmore also has 2025 and 2026 “Void Years”

same with Aaron Jones…

but Shaquill Griffin doesnt.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN

bowbunch
Admin
Reply to  freezeyface
16 September 2024 9:06 am

That spreads out the signing bonus or at least lowers it this year. If Sam is not on the team in 2025, all of the cap hit due will hit next year.

freezeyface
Reply to  bowbunch
16 September 2024 9:11 am

so all those players, with multiple void years, is it’s purpose to create more cap space NEXT year?

idk, maybe i’m not understanding it.

bowbunch
Admin
Reply to  freezeyface
16 September 2024 9:14 am

It creates cap space this year also. A signing bonus is prorated across the length of the contract, up to 5 years. Let’s say there’s a 10 mill signing bonus. If the contract is 2 years, 5 mill goes against the cap each year. To lower that, they add void years. Take that same contract, add 3 void years and the cap hit in year one and two is 2 mill. The problem is when the real years expire because all cap hit comes due. In this hypothetical, the 3 void years accelerate and there is a 6 mill cap hit. If the player is extended, then the void years don’t accelerate.

bowbunch
Admin
Reply to  bowbunch
16 September 2024 9:16 am

It’s kind of the credit card of the NFL. The money has been paid, but the NFL hasn’t gotten their cap hit. It’s just a way for GMs to kick the can down the road. The key is to not overdo it and end up with 30 million dollar cap hits for players not on the team. The Cowboys did it with Dak too in his last contract at least. If they would not have extended him, I think there would have been something like a 40 or 50 mill cap hit in 2025.

freezeyface
Reply to  bowbunch
16 September 2024 9:19 am

ok, so following this….

it seems like perhaps there could be extensions in the future, which is why they added the void years?

bowbunch
Admin
Reply to  freezeyface
16 September 2024 9:21 am

Correct. There is at least incentive to extend them. Depending on the size of the signing bonus though it might not be a huge deal especially with the amount of cap space they have in 2025.

freezeyface
Reply to  bowbunch
