Question of the Day

No idea, you ask me.

Media Selection

My favorite “that dude rips at least two packs of lung darts a day” vocalist Paul Westerberg of Minnesota’s own The Replacements, who should have been way more successful than they were

Thread Guidelines

  • Keep politics out. We are adults, news happens, and we can talk about it. What we don’t want is to go down the rabbit holes and turn a productive conversation into name calling and personal attacks.
  • Be cool to one another. Like it says above, just be civil. You don’t need to agree with everyone and that’s fine, you also don’t need to make it personal. Attack the argument not the poster.
  • Keep the NSFW to a minimum. We don’t need anyone getting in trouble at work for hanging out here.
  • All in all, be adults. Treat each other with respect and things will be fine. Mods will take out content they feel is pushing the boundary. If you want to reach out about something feel free to ask. We want to have robust discussions, that’s why we’re here. Just be civil and cool to one another.

Anybody here know the law and/or the rules of the Senate?
When Trump was impeached in 2019 and Republicans controlled the Senate, McConnell said the law requires a trial.
Today, Schumar in a procedural vote (they have 51 votes) got the impeachment trial completely dismissed.
Different rules different people?

I understand the politics OK, but not always the legal in’s and out’s. Perhaps Schumur is simply a more ruthless politician than MConnell who had the same means available to him – but chose not to use them. Not like McConnell and Trump were buddies.
If that is the case, no wonder our side gets their ass kicked so much.

True, we are less likely to stretch the rules….well except for that whole Merrick Garland thing and thank God we did….at the time I was a little pissed that we were being unreasonable, but man he turned out to be a full blown partisan hack.

It’s up to interpretation of the Senate body.
I don’t think there is any requirement.
The Senate just dismissed the charges, just like a judge in a court case.
Just my take.

The Constitution does not by its express terms direct the Senate to try an impeachment. In fact, it confers on the Senate “the sole power to try,” which is a conferral of exclusive constitutional authority and not a procedural command. The Constitution couches the power to impeach in the same terms: it is the House’s “sole power.” The House may choose to impeach or not, and one can imagine an argument that the Senate is just as free, in the exercise of its own “sole power,” to decline to try any impeachment that the House elects to vote.

Interesting that MConnell didn’t do the same thing in 2019. He certainly had the votes and that impeachment was an absolute sham.

I would say intent can matter to a degree.

Even “Baked Beans” can be a swear if it delivered with rage and hate. On the other hand, the “F” word could also be delivered with good intent.

“And then the suspect said, &$%# you and die, your honor.”

Such swearing falls under the realm of just being a decent person within currently societal trends.

I personally rarely use the “F” word in real life unless it is for effect to make a good point. For example, my niece once backed into my car by not paying attention and crushed my front quarter. I didn’t get mad, but I said…

“Okay, that was a f%&k up. Try not to repeat that mistake again, okay?”

She got the point. Paying attention while backing up is not just an oopsie if something goes wrong. It can be genuinely dangerous.

NoDakRube
Reply to  Wrenage

Yes, I too use the F word extremely sparingly (my wife is never impressed when I do), but occasionally it does seem like the perfect word to use.

Wrenage
Reply to  NoDakRube
17 April 2024 4:02 pm

I am not a good swearer anyway.

Drill sergeants, Eddie Murphy and Quentin Tarantino are the only ones who can get away with copious F word use.

Oh wait…David Goggins. He can use the F word like 20 times a minute, and you don’t even notice it. Just blends it it seamlessly with his topics and demeanor.

I’ve been to Packer and other rival games that ruled and some that were stinkers. Been to games that were on the schedule a “meh” but then turned out amazing. BTW, bring your son. Yeah, I’m leaning that way, too. I remember going to Twins games with my dad. My wife is a Packers fan (nominally……blame her dad). Makes sense my Vikings fan son would be the one to come with me.

And that’s the difficulty. If the Vikes get crushed by a division opponent, then being there in the building might be even worse.

100% agree with you.

i only went 2 or 3 times, usually with a buddy or two. it was just a really cool small town type feel. during the breaks, seeing vikings players rolling around on bikes around the campus was super cool. they would stop and chat with fans and it was a great time.

my favorite story of my time there.

we are sitting in the bleachers watching practice and an old man (probably late 80’s) is sitting in front of me and asks if he can lean back on my legs (as eveeryone knows, bleachers have no back support and are uncomfortable for just about anyone, so of course an old old man would be uncomfortable) so i told him sure why not, so my legs acted as his seat back FOR AN HOUR, he must have been so comfortable that he fell asleep…..so i am sitting there for an hour with an old man leaning back on my legs….

Anytime we attend an event with bleacher seating, my wife will sit in front of me for that same purpose. I am a back rest for hours at a time.

Good on you, Freezy.

lol, yes, the bleachers could get very uncomfortable, and no shade. Lots of memories, fun times.

How would you react if the Vikings don’t draft a QB at all in the draft?

I would figure that the Vikings were going to build the best team possible with the current picks, see what Darnold could do with a good situation/Coach and come up with another plan to get a QBTTF if (when?) Darnold failed.

We have Mullins and Hall as well. Mullins can play if he figured which team to throw the ball to and Hall is not full Cine status yet?

I could deal with it.

great movie, even if it is one of the douches favorites (Rogers used to quote it a lot in the locker room according to reports)

What The Douche does or does not do is not a consideration for me.

It is possible, braintrust must think so since they brought him in.
Probable? Beyond my knowledge to ascertain.

Highly unlikely. Even if he is good enough to have a winning season, definitely not good enough to win a SB, particularly if our previous QB was supposedly not.

Would they have paid him 10M if they didn’t think there was a chance, or is that just the going rate?
