Minnesota Vikings Discussion Topic of the Day

Minnesota Vikings News:
SI.com reported that the Broncos and Jaguars both have eyes for Danielle Hunter next year. As you know, Hunter is in the last year of his deal and will likely be a free agent after this season.
At the Inforum, Byron Murphy gave credit to Harrison Smith’s selfless act, which created Murphy’s interception last Sunday.
Vikings.com posted the Vikings at Broncos updated week 11 injury report.
Joe Burrow was knocked out of last night’s Thursday Night Football game with a right wrist injury, and Mark Andrews was also knocked out of the game with an ankle injury, according to NFL.com.

Thread Guidelines
- Keep politics out. We are adults, news happens, and we can talk about it. What we don’t want is to go down the rabbit holes and turn a productive conversation into name calling and personal attacks.
- Be cool to one another. Like it says above, just be civil. You don’t need to agree with everyone and that’s fine, you also don’t need to make it personal. Attack the argument not the poster.
- Keep the NSFW to a minimum. We don’t need anyone getting in trouble at work for hanging out here.
- All in all, be adults. Treat each other with respect and things will be fine. Mods will take out content they feel is pushing the boundary. If you want to reach out about something feel free to ask. We want to have robust discussions, that’s why we’re here. Just be civil and cool to one another.
Game thread, fishin’ is alive.
Yay!
M ost curious about run game tonight, we need it to inpact.
Need to bring in a 6th lineman as a “tackle eligible” and open some holes.
Not even a game thread?
not yet anyway.
I would expect one soon.
Brad usually follows the game here with us.
Our Inactives for today.
OK, is Cine officially a bust? First round pick who can’t make the active roster on game day.
Not ‘officially’ as KOC will still say positive/kind/thoughtfull things about him.
Indeed
Then of course KOC would say positive/kind/thoughtfull things even after he is cut/traded/waived/allowed to walk away.
He is, after all, all about the culture of Kumbaya.
He is… and players see through it. They know they’re meat on a hook for the team. They can be cut or traded any time the team wants, and they have no say about it. No matter how nice the coach is.
I think it is more than just words.
I have been in enough formations to know if the person standing in front is full of shit or not.
KAM has given enough players away for little back to know he isn’t playing ‘hardball’.
Hammer’s keys to Victory:
Protect the GD Ball!!!
Keep contain/run fits against Wilson when he breaks to scramble – he will early and often and look to throw on the run. Watch for his patented ‘whirling dervish’ where he’ll spin around from pressure and try to get free. Flores has played a lot of zone while blitzing – I’m curious if he’ll show more man looks while coming after Wilson.
Set Dobbs up for success early. Move the pocket – rollouts and boots. His legs are a weapon. Use them.
Hock must be there tonight. Denver D playing well – secondary in particular….
Let’s get a vintage performance out of Hitman – Let him come after Wilson early and often. Been a while since he’s been in the end zone. I’m smelling an ‘oskie’ pick 6 tonight.
FOR GOD SAKES LETS NOT LOSE TO THE SCAB QB!!
🔨🔨🔨🔨
Sure hope Wilson plays like a scab tonight.
Or at least Flores makes him look/act like one.
Seems like Flores vs Buttholemouth/Wilson will be key.
I also think we need a running game to go along with that.
It would be nice of course.
I was more focused on our D vs their O as Wilson was the topic of the post I was replying to.
Yep… totally with you. If our D holds up, I think we will win easily.
#nojinx
House divided…
Wife a Denver fan – can’t help who you love….
Hammer was conceived to the sweet baby-making music of the Gjallarhorn…
Here’s my seat for the game:
Here’s hers….
Your pictures never show up for me.
I has a sad.
Huh. Weird. Shot right from my phone and uploaded. I do everything from my phone.
Dalvin Cook with one carry for 10 yards, and Breece Hall with 5 carries for 0 yards…
Man, even our running attack is better than that.
Ok, not that much better unless you count Dobby.
Kyler Murray’s second game back didn’t work out so well.
Don’t think he has a lot to work with.
Which is why Dobby already has more wins in Minn than he did there.
Look like he did as well (84.6 QBR 1 TD and 1 Int) as Stroud did (85 QBR with 2 TD and 3 Int)
Hoping for 7 more, and then a long run in the play-off’s all the way to the Super Bowl.
Hopium is a terrible thing I hear.
I am merely Cautiously Optimistic.
Looking at the WC standing it seems like Tampa/SF could have a big impact.
SF wins gives us more distance from Tampa (important as they have the tie-breaker)
Tampa win could help us get a higher seed if SF does not win their division.
We need to win the North… fuck a WC game.
I was busy ‘expecting the worst while hoping for the best’.
Well there IS that…
3 out of 4 division winners play in a WC game. They just get to play at home.
I meant getting into the playoff’s as a WC, vice a Division winner.
Heading home from deer camp. What time is kickoff?
8:20 Eastern
5:20 Pacific
Grassy ass!
Der Nada.
Winds will be from the North tonight at 5-10 mph. Empower Field at Mile High is laid out exactly North and South, so there will be no cross winds to speak of.
Temps in the mid to high 40’s for the most part. Decent weather for Denver in November.
Donkos will be breaking in a brand new turf today.
Pray for not injuries.
Oh really? Artificial turf, I gather?
The article I read just mentioned turf.
I am sure that there is more on the InterWebthingie.net/com/gov/etc.
Yeah, just looked it up. Grass field. We’ll see how it holds up.
Their players are as at risk as our are.
So hopefully they have it as prepared as possible.
Fields did a great job in the 4th quarter leading that long, time consuming drive, that resulted in a field goal and a 12 point lead. Defense shit the bed from there IMO.
He didn’t do anything that 26s drive that gave the ball back to the Kitties.
I hated the play calling there. Roll Fields out with the TE and make some easy throws, or allow him to run. The Lions were just firing off on the running game and going after Fields. Then that long ball on 3rd and 2???? Fields “strength” isn’t throwing the deep ball.
Folks we should be thankful. We had good QB play, he got hurt, and the next guy up is playing really well too.
Looking around the league, there is a ton of pretty crappy QB play.
Folks need to realize that all QB’s miss throws, make bad decisions, get sacked, fumble etc. Having a top ten QB every year in terms of TD production, completion percentage, yards, and passer rating, is a blessing.
Looks like we have a Cornucopia of QBs options going forward.
Dobby, KC, Hall (looked good for a minute), Mullins (ok for a backup), Draft choice (enough good ones coming out we could get someone decent late 1st round if we wanted). Just please get rid of The Manniquin by then.
I seriously doubt Cousins will be here next year. I think KAM made that decision a long time ago.
Those are whole different discussions, who should be back, at what price, for how long, etc.
Just saying that it looks like we will have options.
Worst case seems to be Hall/Mullins/Draft choice.
Best case might be Dobby/Hall/Mullins.
Since I don’t have a crystal ball I will just sit back with a bowl of popcorn.
Me too. I am very hopeful Dobbs can keep playing at a high level though.
He is smart/aware enough to keep it up.
I worry about injuries as he is a running QB.
Again, Expect the worst but hope for the best.
#nojinx
Indeed
I hope they do not use him as a running QB.
A QB that can run is great. A QB that is mobile in the pocket is required. But if he become “Run First” he will get injured.
His mobility opens up the offense in ways that having KC never could, but Dobbs is not as accurate. I am thrilled to see him run when a play breaks down, just remember to slide….
Agreed,
Hand off (if we had a running game), Pass, and last run.
Of course a RPO would be fun to mess with the D, just Dobby has to play it save, take what it there and get down/out of bounds when he needs to.
Looks unlikely but I’ve been surprised before. If he’s truly interested in retiring a Viking he may be open to a reduction in yearly salary given the unknowns surrounding the most significant injury he’s ever had. Something short, incentive laden that gives him another season or two and still allows the team to draft QBOTF – not saying this will happen, it’s likely not going to go down that way.
No… Cousins is a top shelf, starting QB who is one of the most productive in the league in terms of TD’s and yardage. He isn’t gonna take a huge pay cut.
We are paying him $28M no matter what due to void year.
If they add $6 or $7M to that they paying $34/35, not a pay cut but not a budget buster either.
I am not positive that this is how Void Year Payments work but my ‘logic’ would like to think so.
Paying effectively $6/7M for a year of Mentor Kirk would not be the worst thing. It is AN option.
We’re not paying him anything in 2024. The $28.5M cap hit is just that. Cap hit. The restructures of his contract over the years to free up cap space have come to bear. Yes, you could theorize all you want about a $30M a year 2 year contract, but Cousins market value is already over $40M.
KAM is going younger and cheaper at QB in 2024.
Well I don’t care about the actual money because it isn’t mine.
Cap wise KC will be a cheap option, the difference between $28 and $35/40M.
Again a KC (mentor), Hall (rookie deal), plus draft choice (rookie deal) would not be terrible if Dobby signs somewhere else for big coin.
That’s not how the math works. The $40M is on top of the $28.5M. Now they can add more void years again, and spread the $80M and $28M out over 4 years, rather than two or something, but sooner or later, you have to fess up all that cap space, and pay off the debt.
Fine burst my ignorant bubble why don’t you.
Yeah, better to pay Dobby 20something M than to add 40M to KC on top of the 28M we are already on the hook for.
Sorry… I’m such a dick… grin.
Normally I would reply “you are what you eat”.
But I would never say that to you of course.
Laughing… thank you.
He’s also 35, will be 36 when next season starts and has never had such a significant injury in his career. I think it’s likely another team gambles and pays him more than Minny, but IF he truly desires to retire in Minny as he’s stated, it’s not out of the realm of possibility.
I Figure he is AN option.
Probably not the best one due to age/injury/cost. But we will see what the circumstances are when the time comes.
Cleveland wins 13-10.
Steelers regular QB Pickett threw for 94 total yards all game.
Raiders got beat too – and their QB also sucks.
Bears shit the bed…
So Lions gonna Lion but get trumped by Bears gonna be Bears.
Yep
Chargers/Herbert Shit the bed.
Chargers receiver dropped a long pass from Herbert that would have put them in field goal range. Then the Packers knocked the 4th down pass down at the line of scrimmage. Packers win. Dammit.
Great drive there by the Bears. Cairo Santos Made 39 Yd Field Goal, 14 plays, 70 yards, 8:45. Perfect.
Bores now by 5, with the ball, 3m left.
Hope that they can hang on.
Grrr they kept the ball all of 26s.
Detroit has the ball 2:33 left 1 TO and 73 yds to go needing a TD.
Come on defense!!!
Damn It!!
Tell you else who isn’t real bright – Cleveland. Wife is watching Steelers/Browns. Talk about poor offenses and QB play. Brown’s QB is really poor. What were they thinking letting Dobbs go? And really Watson hadn’t play very well either (one half all year). All that talent, what a waste.
They have Flacco coming in I heard though.
OK, Bears up 23-14. Come on Bears!!!
For you all watching Bears game. Was watching some highlights. Hasn’t Fields been out several weeks injured. So the Bears have put together lot of RPO’s with him running around taking on LB’s etc. Would wonder how long is he going to last doing this.
Seems like asking for trouble to me.
I agree. If the Bears win and Fields is injured for our game next week, I’ll take it.
Just seems like stupid offensive design. Let’s see what we can do to put our QB in a lot of positions to get hurt.
Well running QB’s usually have a lot of injuries and miss games in the NFL. Lamar Jackson has figured that out this year, and isn’t making himself a target anymore.
It’s their best shot to move the ball – I agree it’s dumb and risks injury, but he can’t decipher an NFL defense and make the correct read and throw.
TD Bears on a great throw by Fields!!! Up 20-14.
Goff 3rd Int.
YAY!!!!!
Big fumble recovery on the kick-off after the field goal by the Bears!
Lions trying to Lion.
PLEASE!!!!!
TD Bores, now in the lead, late 3rd qtr.
Down here we are stuck watching Dolphins/Raiders. /will say this – nobody can cover Hill. He flys down the field for 20 yards, hitches, and the DB is 10-15 yards from him. Too easy pith and throw. And he’s so fast the play happens fast.
Good protection, and open receivers… a QB’s dream.
NLNVF I replied to your ‘John Stuart Mill’ post yesterday but you had already left for your lunch.
Hate for all of my ‘hard work’ to go to waste so just a reminder it is down the tread a bit now.
I actually saw it, and was impressed. Just figured if I replied, you’d never see it. Zarathustra was known by another name… Zoro something or other… and was Iranian as I recall.
Good call on your part, and obviously you know your stuff.
‘Zarathustra was known by another name’
Zoroaster, had a religion named after him, Zoroastrianism. He was Persian, Iran had not been invented yet.
Richard Strauss/Nietzsche were both fans.
They actually used Strauss’s score for the 2001 Space Odyssey movie.
#themoreyouknow
You guys have to stop this – you make the rest of us feel uneducated.
He started it!!
(smiles)
Laughing… so hard…
Well the Bears cocked that up…
Kitties not getting the ‘home town love’ from the officials.
Goff Intercepted again.
Bares gave it back,
It is a comedy of errors so far.
Da Bears gonna Bear I guess…
Chargers threatening to score against green Bay.
Bears intercept Goff! Come on Bears!
Da Bears!!!! TD!!!!
Now Detroit intercepted.
so far so good.
#nojinx.
We can dream!
Viking Credo.
‘Expect the worst but hope for the best’.
Is Mullens the back-up QB tonight for the Vikings?
Yes,
Hall ruled out.
Thanks. I like Mullens as the back-up.
I think we all prefer just about anyone over The Manniquin that we were stuck with last week.
Thought Kirk’s cast was off and he was ready as backup
Kirk could probably sit on his butt in the pocket and still be better than The Manniquin.
Actually I suspect most ‘NFL QBs’ could do the same.
Watched the Dolphins/Broncos game – Tua just stood in the pocket and carved them up – wheel him out, stand there and throw, and then wheel him out. .
I liked the Dolphins passing offense a lot early in the year. Well schemed, well executed.
Good scheme and tons of pure speed
That too!
A game that really doesn’t affect us much, but tomorrow night’s game between Chiefs and Eagles should be a heck of a game. Certainly considered two of the best.
Have no idea who will win. Eagles defense didn’t look too good against us and Chiefs offense didn’t look that good against us.
Go Chiefs! Hate the Eagles.
Can “Da Bears” beat the Lions today? Doubtful, but one can certainly hope. The Chargers need to pull theur head out and beat the Packers. Then we need to beat the Bronco’s. Fingers crossed it all comes to pass.
Don’t know if the Bears could beat Georgia. And the Packers, after watching our game, Herbert should have a big day. But still, we should beat the Broncos.
We’ve got two shots at Lions coming up.
Indeed, the game’s afoot Watson!
Having the Bears beat the Kitties would be great.
Not sure why the Chargers ‘Need to beat the Packers’. I mean a FTP loss is always sweet but it is not like they are a threat to us being effectively 3 games behind us. Another loss will just give them a better draft pick that they might not actually screw up.
Obviously the Vikings win would be huge as we control our own destiny. With Cinn losing their QB the toughest games we have are the two Detroit games, win those and we will have the tie-breaker over them and the same number of loses if we both win out.
I always want the Packers to lose, and it would probably be the nail in the coffin for them.
While it’s always good to see Packers lose, I am absolutely sick of the never ending Cowboy bull shit. It’s never ending. Would love to see someone just pound the crap out of them! And their fans are insufferable.
I’m with ya there…
Game day…. er night I guess. Hope the Vikings can continue their winning ways. I watched the Packers game yesterday, and it was a good win. Still, we left so much on the field. Could have won 37-7.
The Packers were a slight favorite at home, but we dominated them.
Was a good game to watch as we really did dominate. Seems GB has a bit of a QB problem – lack of accuracy.
to that end, I’m down to 50/50 confidence on our bet.
Well, there’s a lot of things that can happen, but I’m pretty certain I will be proven right.
Game Day! SKOL!
Good to see you back on the Asylum. Hope all is well.
Many thanks. Good to be back for sure. Beautiful day today in Tampa!
Let’s see a great victory tonight!
Welcome home! Excited to get to watch a live Vikings game tonight (as opposed to redzone and delayed replay). Hope the Dobbs magic continues.
Hey Kathy, many thanks! Yes, we’re all hoping the Dobbs magic continues! Gotta win tonight! If Dobbs can continue playing well, I do believe we can win out and take the North again this year. Fingers crossed!
Gophers Score!!!
They are now only down 37 – 3.
As expected.
JJ not playing this week.
Was hoping he was ready.
They probably have good reasons for holding out a little longer.
‘An abundance of caution’ = scared.
There really isn’t any rush.
If they beat Denver, I suspect he will not play against the bears. If they lose to Denver, I think he plays against the bears.
‘With the Broncos debuting new turf on Sunday’.
A logical reason to not activate JJ this Sunday.
Could be…
If he isn’t activated for the bears game, I think he’s out the remainder of the season.
Had a great lunch, and we did some Christmas shopping at the mall. Got a couple things for the relatives. Still lots of things to buy for friends. I know all the things I’m buying for my wife, just have to get them.
I saw Anthony Barr is back with the Vikings and has been promoted to the active squad for the game? Shocker.
Some things best left unsaid.
You are right, I will ‘unsay it’.
Barr being back seems to fit right in with the rest of the shocking things that have gone on this season.
Got this in Minny tomorrow.
CBS. Steelers at Browns. Jets at Bills.
Fox. Chargers at Pukes.
I guess for football junkies it could be worse.
Cleaning the gutters might be a better use of your time though.
Background noise most likely.
will be reading a book while having the tv on with no volume.
Once the important game gets closer, I will watch NBC for the recap and the main event.
I’m just gonna help a buddy cut a deer up today and I’ve got 10 lbs of snack sticks in the smoker.
Ohio going after 13 straight over Goofers.
@Goofers 3, Ohio 0@
I hope the Rodents can keep inside the 27.5 pt better spread.
Less than 4 TD should be no problem right…..Right??
Turned on womens beach volleyball, they are starting to wear leggings now! What’s this world coming too!
It they are Flesh Colored Legging you can still pretend.
Already 7-0 OSU
Ive seen enough. It will be a route.
Gophers are so bad I will not watch anymore this season.
Waste of time, trying some Caddyshack. Might check out Wolves later.
Slow comments, this may be game day thread.
Doubt it.
Brad will probably start a thread when he comes on tomorrow like last week.
And the week before I think.
Maybe the week before that.
Not sure what they are thinking. Site bogs, more scrolling and a night game Sunday. Oh well…
Not planned I think.
‘Don’t assume conspiracy when simple incompetence is the more likely answer’.
I figure we get what we pay for. So not such a big deal for me.
When site bogs it bugs me most. If you want to generate comments not the way. Not blaming anyone, just pointing out.
Understood.
I only access this site via my desktop so not quite the same issue for me.
I can sympathize with people using other means.
Maryland coming back on Michigan is a surprise, only down 4 but with the ball in the 4th.
Arizona hammering Utah 21 – 0 in the 1st qtr is unexpected.
Good effort by Maryland but Michigan held on.
BYU, Rutgers, and Miami all holding tough against ranked opponents at the half.
BYU and Miami still hold tough after 3 qtrs.
Neither team could quite ‘seal the deal’.
Congrats Kathy.
Roooooooast Beast!
Night game tomorrow and no weekend thread?
‘The more things change the more they stay the same’.
Off for the day with my wife. It’s good to be home, and I’m feeling very blessed.
Have a good one, relax and enjoy.
Glad you are back and safe!
Surly, many thanks. Had a great afternoon with my wife, and enjoying the serenity of home.
Welcome back! SKOL!
Many thanks! Great to be back! SKOL!!!
This little guy is 13 today.
Roast beast sammiches incoming and some pond fishing with dad today.
Very cool. Good treats!
The cats barely noticed I’m home. Much different than a dog.
This is Monster. He’s my nemesis. He brings me mice and poops in shoes once in a while. Would definitely eat me without 2nd thought should I suddenly perish.
Laughing… sounds like the name fits!!!
Well, the garage is swept out, and I’m relaxing till my wife comes home from yoga. I think she wants to drive in to Tampa for lunch and shopping. Might do the Capitol Grill at International Mall. Dunno. Going to watch the Packers game now.
CG is great – just wonderful lobster bisque. As I recall you’ve had some stomach problems, but if it’s OK now, the fried calamari with a cold beer is simply great (spicey though).
Capitol Grill food and service is always very good. Love the lobster bisque, and my wife definitely likes the calamari. Cold beer??? Yeah, looking forward to that. Very relaxing atmosphere too at lunch. Just a nice quiet place to be together.
Finally home, and resting a bit. Of course my wife is going to yoga, and wants me to sweep the garage out while she’s gone. Life is back to normal.
Glad you made it home safe and well. Normal is always good. Rest up and enjoy some football!
Don’t know what you were doing, but suspect it was good things for our country – thank you.
Normal is good indeed. Sleeping in my own bed, eating food cooked for me by my wife, watching TV, having internet, etc. Good to be back.
Wife is happy and relieved, but also insistent that this is not happening any more. Grin. She loves me.
She’s right- leave saving the world to the young guys -it’s their turn.
Good to read that you are back home, mate.
Thanks, it is great to be home. All’s good!
Happy ‘End Of Mission’, at least for you hopefully.
Glad to hear you are back safe, sound and sane (or as sane as you were when you left).
Thanks. Sane is a relative term… grin. If I was sane I wouldn’t have gone in the first place.
I truly believe that ‘a difficult job done well can be its own reward’.
Knowing that you did your best at what you believed to be ‘the right thing’ is a blessing.
Hopefully it balances those things that we are ‘ordered to do’ that we are not fully on board with.
This is an extremely insightful and enlightened take. I hope people read that and get it.
“As long as justice and injustice have not terminated their ever-renewing fight for ascendancy in the affairs of mankind, human beings must be willing, when need is, to do battle for the one against the other.”
― John Stuart Mill, 1862
‘extremely insightful and enlightened’? Who Me?
I think it harkens back even further than Mr Mill.
Zarathustra (200 BC) who first taught the idea about ‘the fight between right and wrong, good and evil’, was the most influential person in history IMHO.
His idea was passed to the Jews who passed it to the Christians, who passed it to the Roman Army which influenced Constantine to convert to Christianity. And we know how the ‘Roman Empire/Church’ effected the rest of History.
Refreshing – a well read person who knows and understands history.
Yeah I agree,
I think a lot of NLNVF also.
Me, of both of you. Always insightful and thoughtful.
I can accidentally have my moments.
Mostly I am snarky and enjoying my own eccentric sense of humor. if others enjoy it is a bonus.
You and NLNVF are wise, I am more the ‘wise guy’.
Hardly!
An besides, you’re nothing like Joe Pesci.
Pesci has a lot more money/fame than I do, you’re right.
Welcome Home!
Let’s get ready to stummmmmmble!!!
Name of your sequel sex tape
I tried
Boom!
Just a few more…
I can almost touch it….
Name of your sex tape
So close…
