How bad will it suck if the Vikings draft Nix at 23?

  • Keep politics out. We are adults, news happens, and we can talk about it. What we don’t want is to go down the rabbit holes and turn a productive conversation into name calling and personal attacks.
  • Be cool to one another. Like it says above, just be civil. You don’t need to agree with everyone and that’s fine, you also don’t need to make it personal. Attack the argument not the poster.
  • Keep the NSFW to a minimum. We don’t need anyone getting in trouble at work for hanging out here.
  • All in all, be adults. Treat each other with respect and things will be fine. Mods will take out content they feel is pushing the boundary. The Twinkies managed 1 run on 7 hits today.
But the Tigers managed 6 runs on 7 hits.

At least they only struck out 5 times, which is nice I guess.

Been looking at Drake Maye a little, since I think the Vikings are really interested in him.

I really think Maye is going to be a “boom-or-bust” quarterback in the NFL. He has the prototypical build of an NFL quarterback at 6’4″ and 223 lbs, with the mobility to escape pressure and finish drives as a ball-carrier (16 rushing touchdowns). As a passer, he also makes some impressive throws from the pocket and on the move.

With his physical traits and somewhat aggressive nature, I think he’ll have some highlight moments that will have fans thinking the sky is the limit for this kid. However, Maye has shown a propensity to get greedy with shots he takes downfield, which will look like boneheaded mistakes on the pro level. He reminds me of Josh Allen when he does this. In my mind, he does not really process well either. He is all athlete, and little else in my opinion.

He could end up being a very good NFL QB, but to me, there’s some bust concerns there.

All of them have strengths and weakness.
KOC discussed being QB Killing in the church video posted below because he points out the QBs with ‘unfixable’ weaknesses vs fixable ones.
So it doesn’t sound like he will fall for a ‘Million Dollar Arm and a 10 Cent Head’.

Well KOC said they researched Dobbs deeply, and “targeted him” when Cousins went down. Look how that turned out. I don’t think KOC is all that… just my opinion.

I don’t know how he could have ‘researched Dobbs deeply’ when KC went down just a few days before the trade deadline.

I believe it was more a quick search of what they wanted and who was available. Dobbs was the best of what was available.

I think KOC and the Vikings did they best they could given the situation.

‘lot of time’ is relative and Dobbs was targeted to be the ‘Back Up to Hall’ until Mullins got back on the field.
He was never ‘the plan’ to be the starter.

What could KOC have accomplished with him given a full training camp? We will never know.

I didn’t comment because folks were high on the rocket scientist crap, and didn’t want to rain on anyone’s parade. Also, the element of being accused of being a “Dobbs hater” because of my position on Cousins. I knew Dobbs sucked though, and that would become apparent soon enough. It was galling how KOC crowned Dobbs the team leader immediately after that first game though, to be honest.

Well after that first Dobbs game we had on the roster KC (injured) Mullins (injured) Hall (injured) Dobbs, and had just signed Mannion as the emergency back up.

Not a lot of options there.

The Falcons & FT* games were fun – narrowly snatching victory from the jaws of defeat.

The Falcons game in particular was fun – was on my 45th birthday and my buddy (a huge ATL fan) was talking mad trash all week. There’s a local Mexican joint in town called DeLeon’s – amazing burritos – and the loser had to buy. My hash brown burrito tasted almost as sweet as the victory that day. Almost.

Then the abysmal games against Denver & Chicago and it became pretty obvious he wasn’t the answer (one might argue that it was obvious way before that considering his journeyman career to that point)

I do remember after the ATL and FT* victories there being talk of Minnesota extending Dobbs, which is just laughable.

Given that he was an emergency pickup, and he gave two amazing games before the wheels came off I am not terribly upset.

Both the Denver and Chicago game were very winnable so the frustration boiled over and so a lot of people seem to carry a grudge over that.

With the draft clearly on the horizon, I think we all know the Vikings will take a QB first and foremost. The question is who and when. It would be interesting to see (post draft) how the Vikings ranked the QB prospects. Do they think Maye is better than McCarthy? When they pick, are they settling for the 5th or 6th guy in their QB rankings? Every draft, guys “fall” well down the board from where pundits had them positioned. Maybe someone falls to the Vikings?

The best rankings I have seen have The CryBaby, Maye/Daniel as 2A/2B then JJ and now Penix then Nix.
Personally I think any of the six can succeed with us although the ‘QB Killer’ (as KOC calls himself) has his preferences.
Thursday will be fascinating, Friday may be boring (no current 2/3rd picks for us) and then Sat trying to get the ‘best of the rest’ and future projects.

Unfortunately my older sister fell and broke her hip, so I’ve been in Myrtle Beach getting her through surgery and into a rehab center. My son is staying up there with her until she is well enough to travel, and will bring her down to Tampa, where she will reside with us for the rest of her life. Her husband passed away a year ago, and we’re finalizing his estate. She wanted to stay in Myrtle Beach, but clearly she is too old and frail now. I’m glad we are getting her down here where we can care for her.

First, this back and forth on Cousins You state NLV and I protect Cousins and we could easily say you smear him – tit for tat. Childish. Still, I would say in my several thousands of posts here, don’t believe I have ever started a discussion praising him. Answered some, never started (best I can remember).
Now, the favor and taking advantage of your internet skills. I am very leary of small samples. Even large ones can be wrong if not representative. So, to your screen shot below. the favor is to ask you to go to the Falcon site and post ALL the posts from the day of the Cousins announcement, and maybe the next day, to see ALL the thoughts and thinking of that fanbase. Good, bad, whatever,
Then everyone here can see it all, make up their own minds anyway they chose. Would think this would then be totally unbiased.
If this is a lot of work, I’d be glad to help you with expenses.
Lastly, you mention the porch? I don’t have one, but do have a leni (fl slang) and do sit out here a couple of hours a day reading and listening to music – really like it. What’s wrong with the porch.

Second of all, I found this on reddit, like I said in my comment, you need to get new readers. Third, this post on reddit was about a comment Bill Belli made on the Falcons not being contenders, had nothing to do with Kirk. I was reading the comments, and this is a screen shot of some of them I found amusing, considering 5 of them are from fans on other teams. Yet they share the same sentiment. You should – anytime you go longer, go slower. Just takes time for body to adjust. You’ll find after a while you will get faster sort of naturally. Important – develop a regular route and stick to it.

I have a regular route. The street I live on if I run the whole thing is 2 miles straight. So from my house going north is .8 miles, and then I turn around and go all the way back down the mile and back by my house is 2 miles. I just go up and down that street until I get to the distance I set for myself.

An idea to consider. I didn’t go this but wish I had. When I ran, never stopped, kept running until mileage was done.
If I started today, I’d do this.
Jog a little warmup. Then fairly fast (75% maybe) for a hundred yards. then walk briskly 100 or so until just about have caught breath, and then do it over. And then over for the three miles (or whatever).
Easier on knees, and better cardio as you are taking your heart rate up and down, Will burn same amount of calories to.
There’s a guy who wrote a book, can’t recall his name, but it was about running a marathon this way. Much easier on body (recoevery) and gets great results.
A thought.

You finished without dying, so you won!

I never run unless someone is chasing me or has a gun.
Rowing is my go-to workout. 10k is my normal “long” row. 5k is my daily workout, at a faster pace. Rowing does not kill my knees.

You go to a gym or buy a rowing machine? I do either a hard 2 miles lately where I am shooting to beat a time or a slow 5K where just finishing is my win lol. I too am worried about my knees but I stretch and strengthen them almost daily and I’m not running 10-20 miles!

I bought an Aviron.
I like the gaming interface, but if I had to do it over, I would just get a concept 2 and watch tv while rowing.

I pay 25/month to use a machine I own. but the games make rowing easier, and I am able to row for over an hour since I just “NEED” to get to the next level.

Nice!

That is a decent time for a bigger guy. I was right at 33 minutes too when starting out. Hit 28:03 last year.

This year I am going on an actual program. I want to hit around 27 minutes. I have a guy who I want to beat in September.

Don’t actually know the guy. Have never spoke to him. He has just beaten me the last two years, and it gives me a dragon to slay!

HA! Good to have motivation. And yeah I’m still at about 265ish give or take 4ish pounds. I have stalled on my weight loss but I have also started lifting the last 3 weeks and I already can tell a noticeable difference in my tone and muscle density. Clothes are still fitting a little better and better so not as worried that the weight loss has stalled.

That’s solid time at 265. I was like 245 when I first started.

I was 215 when I hit 28:03.

I think every pound you take off is like four pounds off impact.

Right now I am at 225. I didn’t keep up with my running as well as I wanted this winter. First I sprained my ankles, so that sidelined me for about three weeks. Then I got the flu right on the end of that, which sidelined me for another two weeks.

Ticked me off. Nicest winter ever, and I couldn’t get out on the road!

Still, I was able to put in some T-shirt runs in January and February. Probably will never see that again in my life in these parts.

Last winter that was sort of similar was in the early 80s, I think.

Perhaps an interesting question might be this.
We all know the QB is hugely important and suppose all the ‘hype’ on these young QB’s is correct. The hype on Williams is he’s the next Mahomes. Even if he’s half that, we have to face him for next 10 years or so.
As such, would you trade JJ AND Darrisaw to get Williams?

Edgecrusher71

Boy thats a way to spin an argument if ive ever read one. Thats the mentality we should have, within reason. Your goal is a QB in the first round either between picks 5 and 23. How you do it is where the within reason part around here. At no point did anyone here or else where say to trade our starting LT, JJ and first round picks to move up to get a QB. Your stirring the pot with your hand on the stove at this point.

JRobert
JRobert
Reply to  KFEY93
19 April 2024 3:22 pm

No spin that was a hypothetical question. With reasoning.
There is a difference where you are on the risk/reward curve.
For example, if other than Williams, you believe other top five are fairly close, you probably wouldn’t give up a lot to get one. Maybe if one slightly better, maybe a 1st and 23rd. But probably not two 1st’s and a 23rd also. that’s just bad Value Theory.
Now, if you believe Williams is the next Mahomes, that’s a different place on the risk/reward curve. Probably would pay considerable more even though there is no sure things.
Someone before me, suggested, and perhaps not completely seriously, the JJ and Darrisaw type trade. I merely made a thought.
You may call this stirring, and I’m usually more of a risk ‘manger type’, if KOC came to me and said Williams was going to be the next Mahomes and we should do what we can to get him. I would seriously consider this trade.
If anything this is more in your line of thinking.
Regardless, slap your red flags on this or come at me personally like you do.
“Boy”, I’m way to old for that.

Lots of talent in this draft and the 2nd 1st rounder is ammo to grab good/great talent we need in other positions while also addressing QBOTF with one of the first 2 picks.

Yes, the Air Force Base is one of two bases in the country that house the B-52s along with the nuclear bombs that they can carry.

Additionally, the Air Force Base services the nuclear launch missile bases that are deployed in a circle around Minot, they are deployed far enough apart that a single nuclear strike can’t take out more than one launch facility.

I believe North Dakota has more nuclear weapons than any other state besides Georgia (nuclear submarine base).

Speaking of military machinery and crushed, a formative moment in my young life as a fourth grader was getting pitted in a “cage match” in our PMQ area against a sixth grader named Andre Vallecatt (unsure of spelling of last name). His dad had been snipped in half by the failure of the bomb bay doors to stay open on a Starfighter the week before. I essentially refused to fight him despite the extensive taunting and got two beautiful shiners out of the fight. Next day I was avenged by a seventh grader who felt it was BS for a sixth grader to fight a fourth grader, they fought on school grounds and both got suspended.

Wonder how Andre is doing these days.

Colin Cowherd and others have said that any QB landing in Minnesota is what each of those guys and their agents want.

The Vikings are the only team drafting a QB with an offensive minded system with decent talent to play with.

I like this scenario way better than what has happened over the last 6 years.

And Cowherd also said JJ to us, Nix to Denver, Penix to Seahawks, would all work. But they all would fail in NE.
Who knows.

I don’t care about his mock draft.
Just his statement.
Other NFL people have said the same.

All the QB’s prefer the Vikings over the other teams.

I didn’t say it was his mock draft – it was a statement (opinion) . Where did Colin’s mock come into play?
You brought up Colin – I merely added to it.

I guess when you say, Cowherd said JJ to the Vikings, that kind of assumes Cowherd is mocking JJ to the Vikings.

By the way, Colin has in fact mocked JJ to the Vikings.

All correct.

It’s just so nice having positive vibes coming to the Vikings.
Rookie QB’s want to come here. Most NFL people are saying the same thing.

I’m not saying it works out to start.
But this is WAYYYYYY better than “if only we had A, B, C, D or E, than Kirko could really thrive….”
Yada, yada, yada…

Agreed,

I am trusting the GM and coach to pick the QB they want, and add talent elsewhere, especially DL.

I doubt Nix is there at 23.
Vikings going to have to draft a QB at #11 at a minimum.

Possibly,
But one highly touted QB prospect seems to fall in the draft every year.
So I figure at least an 80% chance one will be there at #23.

Figuring if the one that falls would be a worse option if you calculate the player you would have gotten at #11 vs #23 or all the players you lose out on if you trade up takes too much brain power for me.?

The drop has happened in the past.
But you got the Giants, Jets, Broncos, Raiders, Seahawks, Saints all potentially taking a QB.

I highly doubt one of 6 falls to #23 this year.
Too risky to wait that long IMO.

Agree it is a risk, but then it all is. If there is one you like at 11 get him. If there is one you value above all the others trade up for him if possible.
Hope for JJ at #11, but unless he is the one that drops this year that is looking very unlikely.

I would love for one of the top 4 to drop to us but that wont happen. We trade up, between 5-7. Unless only 2-3 of the QBs go in the top 5, then it will be chaos.

And that would be good chaos.
Imagine the complaining here about selecting Maye or McCarthy or Penix over Maye or McCarthy, or Nix over those guys.

I hope that happens!!!!

I do as well. That first hour of draft night is going to be wild. Most wild in my memory of a Vikings fan because we are usually never in that spot to make a pick, always late night end of draft boringness.

Dont we all? Analyzing how they handle being down and being under pressure and putting the team on their back should be part of the process for KOC and KAM. Mental fortitude is huge. It had been lacking here since 2017

Had a similar situation. Lived in a huge house in Seward, Nebraska (25 miles west of Lincoln) with a bunch of buddies that were attending Concordia University. There were 6 of us.The day after we moved we fired up the PlayStation and did a Madden draft and played the season out (I won the SB the first year and lost my 2nd year) Did the same thing on the NES with Tecmo Super Bowl. The most fun thing we did was play a tournament on one of the original versions of Tiger Woods golf. Was 2 straight days of inebriated debauchery.

Older than you. Would be in the large TV room at college watching MTV when it was music only, then at 11 the channel would change to Days of our lives and I went and studied instead.
