Week two of the 2023 NFL season is in the books. It sure seems like there have been a lot of injuries this year, and there was another bad one last night. Nick Chubb of the Browns went down for the year with a knee injury. I heard the video is pretty greusome, his knee bends 90 degrees to the side, so I’m told. I don’t care to watch it, but it’s out there if you want to go find it.
Wow, the Panthers suck. I feel sorry for Bryce Young, he’s in an awful situation over there. That team doesn’t have much going for it right now. On the bright side, Michael Thomas and Olave produced nicely for my fantasy team last night.
Minnesota Vikings Discussion Topic of the Day
The Vikings signed Dalton Risner yesterday. Some fans have been clamoring loudly for the Vikings to make this move, and the Vikings finally listened. Risner is a better pass blocker than any of our current interior linemen, according to most scouting reports and according to PFF grades. What should the Vikings do with Risner? Fix the weakest link and replace Ingram? Hope that Ingram will develop and replace Cleveland at LG? Leave him as a backup? You tell me.

After two games, Cousins is on track to throw the ball almost 750 times this year. The Vikings have rushed the ball the 3rd fewest times in the opening two games of a season, ever. I would hope those dynamics change soon.
The only stat I currently worry about is Turnovers.
Less of those will = wins and wins (as we all know) cures all.

Cousins is on pace for 6,018 passing yards, which would be the most all-time by 541 yards.

And Cousins is on pace for 51 passing TD’s, which would be second all-time only behind Peyton Manning.

You have an interesting list of QB’s there. Mahomes maybe, but none of the rest of those guys are doing anything without top rate offensive line play.

46 / 47 couldn’t break 90. Putting was so hard not use to this different northern grass rolled tight. Just a different speed than the southern grass greens. Yep. There is an emergency voice prompt to tell the pilot to eject though. If he hears that in his helmet, he’s pulling the handle.

Haven’t looked into it. It will come out though after they recover the flight recorder and other boxes, debrief him, and finalize the accident investigation report.
BTW, this was a Marine Corps aircraft. Most folks assume it was an Air Force fighter that went down. It wasn’t.

I’m grumbling “Get off my lawn” this week, in true Asswipe B fashion. Here’s the gist…there are 5 regional asswipes covering 5 wheelbarrow fulls of work. This week two of the asswipes are off so I was expecting to have about a wheelbarrow and a half to shovel…the newest asswipe that started August 28 had a delivery from the stork last Thursday and took off Friday and the next two weeks. I did not find out until Monday at 10 when I was struggling with a mountain of wheelbarrow crap that I was going to be shoveling at least two and a half wheelbarrow loads. Me, myself, in that situation I would at least offer to help out from home when I am able.

If there are tasks that can be completed from home then yes a slacker but also depends if his wife delivered vaginally or c section, my wife needed a lot of care after her c sections so that first week I wouldn’t have been able to do as much. I went back to working from home a fair amount the second week and back to the office after two weeks at about 30 hours a week until my wife was cleared to drive and lift more than ten pounds.
I don’t know the answer to that question. In my wife’s case post hysterectomy and BSO last December I worked from home the next two weeks but carried a full wheelbarrow full during that time, ran up and down the stairs to help her out.
I’m just going to be a stickler that his time off is vacation…in other words he won’t have much left the rest of the year after this stint. No FMLA for two week employees.

Personally, I think the Vikings have the potential to have a top five scoring offense in the league. We just need to stop fumbling opportunities to score away. Also, that interception on the goal line. That hurt. JJ’s turnover at the goal line, and the interception at the goal line cost us 14 points. The fumble by the punt returner also cost us points. Without those turnovers, we’re in the top two in scoring this year.

Did you see the Lockett interview from after he won the game this weekend? He scored the game winning TD and one of the first things he said was how he was going to be in trouble with the coaches because he reached for the goal line to score and they are coached to never do that. Just thought that was interesting. Maybe KOC can focus on ball security a bit this week.

I’d put one turnover on Cousins. That would be the interception, and honestly, that was just a great play by the defender taking the ball away from KJ. The other three I do not put on him at all. The stats are the stats, and I get it, but context and reality are also important. Cousins had zero chance on any of the fumbles.
Not being contentious, I just think harping on Cousins “turnovers” implies he has an issue protecting the ball. He doesn’t really though IMO. He just takes a lot of blind side hits. Personally I’d like to see the offensive line stop allowing those.
Cousins through two games this year already leads the league in QB knockdowns BTW. Not sacks… knockdowns. He’s been knocked down 16 times to go along with 4 sacks. He’s also the 4th most blitzed QB in the league thus far.

Last year Cousins was the most blitzed QB in the league, and he’s already up there again this year, so teams clearly come after him more than other QB’s trying to stop him. Yes, some of that is because he has a crap O-line in front of him so the likelihood of hitting him before he get the ball off is greater, but also because every team knows if they can stop Cousins, the Vikings have zero chance of winning the game.
You can’t have it both ways. You argue all day, every day as an advocate for Kirk based on his stats, until it’s inconvenient. Based on the way turnovers are credited, Kirk has 4 turnovers this season…that’s the stat. I’m not saying it’s fair…I’m not even saying I agree, because I don’t believe they’re “all on him”.

But something is going on with this QB stat thing. For years it seemed was TD’s and INT’s. Used to follow Dan Fouts for years and couldn’t tell you how many fumbles he had, or rush yards for that matter.
When I see Burrows stats, it’s usually yards,TD’s and INT’s. But for Hurts see TD”s,INT.s yards AND rushing yards and rushing TD’s. Fields gets this too.
Regardless, don’t see a lot of fumble stuff.

I didn’t say Cousins sucks…never have. In fact, I acknowledged the stats may not be fair and I don’t necessarily agree with them. But, I did say, you’re inconsistent in your use of stats (not to mention often inaccurate). You like them when they support your narrative, and rationalize them when they don’t.
It’s not a surprise really. It’s very similar to how you like to use words and phrases in ways that aren’t correct (for instance, you have no clue what a “market” is when you use it to justify what Cousins gets paid, and the phrase “false equivalency” doesn’t mean what you think it does…you just apparently think it makes you sound smart).
I try to pick my battles because I don’t have the time or energy to point out just how ridiculous you are at times (most of the time, really). But you do have a knack for being irritating, so I occasionally point it out.

My dad was in the Army Air Force before the Air Force became it’s own branch. He was in from 42 to 45.
So was mine. Flew as a Navigator on Bombers in World War II. Got washed out of pilot training for breaking curfew, while chasing tail and drinking to all hours of the morning.
My dad was a pilot trainer. After guys got shot down they were sent back to the States for retraining. He said that when he was ready to turn the controls over, some of the guys would refuse to do it.

Mike Greenberg is raging on his show that the Jets need to call the Vikings and BEG for them to trade Kirk Cousins to the Jets. If we analyze the draft picks the Jets have we know they do not have their 2nd pick, that is going to the Packers for Rodgers. They will have their first pick and it will likely be a top ten pick if not top 5. I just can’t see them dealing that for a short term fix when they could draft a replacement QB in this QB rich upcoming draft. So there is not an option, Vikings are not letting Cousins go for anything less than a 1st and they’re not waiting until 2025 for that pick. Also there is the fact Cousins would have to approve the trade request which it is unlikely.
Yeah a Jet trade isn’t happening and Kirk would never approve it even if 0-4 happens and he’s demoralized and the Viking would deal him on the cheap for a mid rd pick.
