Happy Thorsday, everyone, and welcome to Skoloholics, your home for Minnesota Vikings Discussion. Everyday you can join us for Minnesota Vikings news, Minnesota Vikings talk, NFL news and updates, and all of those other things that you have on your mind. At Skoloholics, the real action is in the comments, so if you haven’t checked out the comments section yet, sign up and join the conversation. As always, remember to be cool to one another.

It’s been a crazy week for me this week, I hit my 40 hour mark yesterday already. I wanted to get a couple projects wrapped up by yesterday, and we finished the last one last night. Kiddo is off of school today and tomorrow, so I wanted to be able to stay home both days.

The fall walleye rush hasn’t quite started yet, at least not around this area (Any day now!). Until then, we can always go bird hunting. I’m guessing we’ll do a little of both over the next few days.

The Vikings-49ers game is approaching, and I feel the same way about this game as I felt about the Chiefs game as it approached. This team has shown that it can hang tough with good opponents, so let’s hope they can somehow snag a W on Monday. If they do, the season will look much different than it did just a couple weeks ago.

Minnesota Vikings Discussion Topic of the Day

Rumor has it that the Jaguars are interested in Danielle Hunter. Should the Vikings consider trading their star pass rusher? If not, why not? If so, what is the minimum offer (in terms of draft picks) you would consider?

Hunter will be 29 in about 10 days. He currently leads the NFL in sacks, and looks to be back in prime form, as he was prior to missing a couple seasons due to injury. His current contract is set to expire at the end of 2023, and he has dead money in 2024 due to a void year. If the Vikings would trade him, they would save about $11.5 million in 2023 cap space, while incurring dead cap hits of ~ $9.5 million in 2023 and $14.9 million in 2024 (void year).

Minnesota Vikings News:

MSN speculates about potential Danielle Hunter trade scenarios.

Vikings.com has a preview of the upcoming Vikings-49ers matchup.

NFL.com reports that the Jets are trading WR Mecole Hardman to the Chiefs, and Trevor Lawrence is questionable to play against the Saints this week due to a knee injury.

CBS Sports lists ten NFL players who need to be traded prior to the trade deadline.

Thread Guidelines

  • Keep politics out. We are adults, news happens, and we can talk about it. What we don’t want is to go down the rabbit holes and turn a productive conversation into name calling and personal attacks.
  • Be cool to one another. Like it says above, just be civil. You don’t need to agree with everyone and that’s fine, you also don’t need to make it personal. Attack the argument not the poster.
  • Keep the NSFW to a minimum. We don’t need anyone getting in trouble at work for hanging out here.
  • All in all, be adults. Treat each other with respect and things will be fine. Mods will take out content they feel is pushing the boundary. If you want to reach out about something feel free to ask. We want to have robust discussions, that’s why we’re here. Just be civil and cool to one another.

It’s a very good thing I’m not a politician.
If I were, and going to make a big speech tonight on the Middle East. I’d mention that Iran’s oil fields are going bye bye.
Let them fund terror with sand.

Good for you, agree! We all must do something to try to save our country. This is no longer red vs. blue. This is everyday Americans vs. the corrupt establishment elite globalists and marxists. There are plenty of corrupt establishment RINOs too. At least we now know who they all are. At a minimum, call or email your local representatives and let your voice be heard. Even better, get involved like you are doing.

The bank discussion reminds me of something that was said at med staff…a recently minted doc that moved here from MN was asking if the hospital would hire a security guard to help deal with belligerent family or patients…hahaha…we just come en masse when they call a security alert. I’ve seen little 5’4″ nurses stare down big ol’ 300 pound good ol’ boys.

I found the bank discussion interesting on several levels. First, the mask mandates and then some rather poor banking processes.
Having been involved in similar type situations, I’d just suggest to everyone there are a few more things involved here.
I actually was involved in a very similar situation – but it was “unmasking policy” that caused quite a stir. Some of these things are complicated.

We’ve evolved to masking only when there is an outbreak in our building, but there are a few employees who choose to continue wearing one.

They are of Asian heritage. Way back in ’91 when I was stationed in Korea you would commonly see the Koreans wearing them, so I assume it’s a cultural thing and their families are accustomed to wearing them.

Is it wrong that I mock people who drive alone in cars and wear a mask, or people who mask up when walking alone outside.

We had a strange situation happen to us.
We operated several branches in some tough areas that got robbed several times. Last one, teller and customer got shot. Bothe perp had big hats and sunglasses on making id’s hard with our cameras. Working with local law enforcement, we adopted a policy no hats/sunglasses on doing business inside.
Rather soon after, a group of a particular religious persuation showed up with all their head gear – and with full camera coverage from the local TV stations.
A well intended policy to protect people got quickly trashed..

One of my soon to retire partners told me a story about a buddy of his from California who was doing anesthesiology residency in Rochester same time my friend was doing rads. His wife was expecting any day and he gets a call, “it’s time”. Said he went out to his VW Beetle and it was all iced up, he didn’t have a scraper so he used a credit card to scrape a 6 inch porthole in the driver side window. Said the drive home was precarious to say the least. My retiring partner said well by the time you scraped that little amount the defroster was probably warming the car enough to clear the windows:

“Ah, D, that is how I know you are from ND…you would have started the car”!

Just heard for the third time today detroit has the best oline – thought we did.
Also, heard a couple of interesting things about WR’s
Have heard several times we have a deep WR room with a lot of playmakers. But, then I heard this.
Couple of former NFL players were talking about CeeDee Lamb and saying he wasn’t a playmaker. They believe all NFL receivers should be able to like run a 10 yard pattern and catch the ball. But, playmakers can break tackles, make people miss and turn that into a 35 or so yard game. Playmaking is more than ordinary.
We have JJ. Made me wonder do we really have any other playmakers on the team

Unfortunately, I agree. I’ve got hopes that Addison will be – kid looks explosive, fast and agile despite the small size. That’s not to say they can’t move the ball – we do have effective chain-movers in Hock (when he catches the ball) and KJ (same) it’s the chunk plays that will be hard to replicate without #18 – if there’s a guy to do it, it’s Addison.

Hock broke a few tackles last year too, but doesn’t have the juice to turn a broken tackle into 35 extra yards. And he has done next to nothing this year.

I would say JJ is it.

I actually have a bit of an addiction to the YT videos of people standing their ground at DUI checkpoints, immigration check points, etc…there are times I would refuse say I’m pulled over for failing to signal and they ask to search my car but 95% of the time I personally would answer their question with a quick yes or no, roll down the window instead of having it open a teensy crack, etc….

In this particular case I might have just gone to the drive through window and asked to close my account. Actually with $200,000 I would probably just set up an account at another bank and then either have it transferred or just write a cheque for the whole amount to the new bank. And…I would never pipe off on a video that I have that much money in the bank to a peace officer. Sounds entitled.

But hey she had her fifteen minutes of fame.

Also, no way as a non lawyer I would jet after the cop told me to stick around unless they actually told me “you’re free to go”.

Seems like Trespassing was the crime.

Bank asked her to leave for violating their policy about masking and she refused.

She was making a point, stuck to it and got the service she originally asked for.

Bank expected her (and everyone else) to comply to their unnecessary mask mandate and she made them eat it.

All and all I say ‘good for her’.

Right. That’s exactly what I did years ago when I got pulled over for rolling through a stop sign at the airport loop in Spokane. Gave me a warning chatted about Montana and I asked if I was free to go and he said no we are visiting, why are you in such a hurry? Now a lawyer living in Spokane might relish driving away and dealing with the consequences because they like being in court as much as I like being in the hospital, on my side of the room so to speak. Whereas little old me would be driving to Spokane to plead my “leaving the scene” case, paying for a hotel, lawyer, etc…

Said oh I remembered I was supposed to pick up an auto part from my B-I-L’s business back thataway and I have a flight to catch at blah he said OK you’re free to go. Just don’t let me catch you going through another stop sign.

Figured he was just doing his job and I didn’t ‘deserve’ anything just because I was a Correctional Officer.

At the end of it he actually said ‘I am letting you off with a warning because you were polite, compliant and didn’t expect special treatment. That is rare for you guys from the prison’.

My on-going saga with Subaru of Mandan continues.

I take it there in early July for some suspension and break work, they talk me into a full engine tune up (preventative) it has 125,000 miles on it.

Two weeks later I am driving in the middle of nowhere (near Linton) on a Saturday, and it starts shaking horribly and the dashboard light is a flashing.

I have it towed to Mandan Subaru. I say whats up just had a tune up, what the hell? they say they will check it out. I leave it there and catch a ride back to Minot.

1 week latter they claim its a sticky clutch valve and the tires need to be rotated. I say I don’t think so but they are sure. I say be sure to test drive it cause I don’t want to be halfway between Bismarck and Minot and have it fail. They say they did and its ready to go. $450.

I have my co-worker pick it up as in Mandan to drive it back to Minot. He says there is something horribly wrong with your car. Once he got passed Washburn, it started shaking horribly and the dashboard lights started flashing. He slowed down to 30mph and drove it the rest of the way to Minot.

So now I am a little pissed off, I call Mandan Subaru and tell them they had not fixed the problem, just as I had suspected, what are they going to do about it? They have it towed back to Mandan.

I hear nothing for two or three weeks. Finally I receive a text message, they say its the T orque converter and it will cost $2,200 to fix. I set up a meeting with the service manager to discuss. Nice fellow, good discussion, he says because of all I have been through he will fix it for $1,300 – the cost of the parts. I say great, lets do it.

About a week later I get call from a service tech says the parts are in and should they fix it? I say yes, I had already approved it with the service manager. Turns out the service manager fled the scene moved back to Kansas City shortly after my meeting.

I hear nothing for 2 or 3 weeks. I finally leave a message with the general manager. The next day I get a text from a service tech…”Oh, it looks like a valves was damaged when the torque converter went out. That will need to be fixed. We have the parts here to do it, just give us the go ahead – total cost including the torque converter $5,200″. I say no, please send me a detailed quote.

I hear nothing for 2 or 3 weeks. Finally I call and someone in their service area picks up. He says they have had a lot of turnover and he is handling my car at this point. We talk briefly about the history of what my car has been through and he confirms the 5,200 repair estimate. I tell him I need a detailed quote He says no problem he will get one right out to me, he leaves me his direct phone number and text number.

A week passes and I hear nothing. I text the guy back and call and leave a message with the guy and I hear nothing.

Yesterday, I get an estimate from their ‘assistant service director’, although its not detailed it at least breaks down the costs a bit. Here is what they want.

  1. $2,200 for the torque converter they have already fixed and originally agreed to fix for $1,300.
  2. $1,700 to fix the valve
  3. $1,850 for test driving and diagnostics (emailing data back and forth to the subaru engineers)

For a grand total of $5,700. and the car was fine before I had them do a tune up.
At this point they are waiting for my approval to fix the valve.

I will try to talk to them, but this is probably headed to small claims court.

Sucks going through that.
Whenever someone “recommends” something on my car for something unrelated to what it’s in for, I always say no.

A couple of years ago I bring in my KIA for an oil change, and they recommend new tires and a front axle. $1,500 estimate. I said no. Almost 3 years later, tires and axel are fine.

Dude, that’s fucked! Do you feel it’s a Subaru issue or that particular dealer? My parents have a 2020 or 2021 new Subaru, Assent. They love it but the transmission (wanted put shorten to to tranny but had to erase it because I knew how those comments would go with this chuckle hut around here lol) has been doing weird shit. My mom was a mechanic and service manager for decades, she knows her shit. But Subaru is telling them there’s nothing wrong it’s just how they are, they won’t fix it. Scares my mom because of my dad’s health and they are both older if something were to go out while they travel cross country to sell my mom’s seasoning. I love my Subaru and apparently they all have the same tranny basically.

Was getting my car smog-ed and was chatting with other customers in the waiting room.
We were discussing how bad the dealerships have gotten.

One guy told me he took is pickup into the dealership to be checked and after the initial paperwork he sat on the tailgate to wait. After 90m he called the service department to see about his ‘diagnostics’ and they told him.
‘Yeah, just got done and the estimate is $1,600’. He replied ‘I have with my truck since I dropped it off and no one has been here to check it, go ahead and cancel the work order and I will come in a get the keys’.

Everyone in the waiting room had a similar tale.

I believe that they dealership sees car owners as cows that need to be ‘milked regularly’. I have a shop that I trust and I go to whenever anything is needed.

Sorry to hear that NDR…I really don’t have anything to add but as with everything else the “supply chain issues” affect part availability and that drives up prices.

I myself have had the tale of two Subarus. I traded in my 4Runner way back when for a new 2004 Forester, had that car while I was putting in miles interviewing for residency and while I was in Rochester, loved that car, never gave me a lick of trouble.

I also had a 1994 SVX that I bought just before med school, that car was a f’ing nightmare and putting money into it while I was living in poverty sucked real bad. I did bunches of work on it during my “spare time” and when I finally got it in decent running condition I bit the bullet, asked my parents for a loan, and traded it for a Civic. The gal at the dealership took me along on the test drive as she was unfamiliar with some of the gadgetry and someone was smiling on me that that car didn’t pull a “SVX” on us during the drive. When she told me we’ll give you “x” dollars on trade, you might do better selling it yourself I counted to three so as not to sound too eager and then said DO IT.

I have strong brand loyalty now to Lexus and Ford. That Vulva I picked up last winter has become my wife’s car now and it has been good as well but I sense it is just waiting to blow a niffle pin and cause me headaches since GDV has such great foreign car service availability.

Also in stupid me category I had ordered some perfume for her, planning as a Christmas gift, she opened the box and called all happy oh how nice and I said shoot I was planning on that for Christmas…well now you can’t and I thought you were just doing a random special…

I mean, I am not unreasonable, at this point I would pay them 1300 for the torque converter work and 1600 for the valve, but no more. So we are about 3,000 apart.

Alternatively I will pay them 1300 for the torque converter and get a buddy with a flat bed and go pick it up and have the valve work done somewhere else.

I am skeptical they will accept either of those options.

Today I wondered how much potato is in a Pringles chip. Turns out the answer is 42 percent of it is potato. That’s enough for me, I guess.

By the way, the potato crop in the garden was amazing this year. Plus, they dug up almost clean. We are literally sitting on like 7-10 bushels of potatoes. I am basically a potato magnate now. I am going to be eating potatoes for every meal, which is fine, because I really like potatoes: fried, mashed, baked…can’t go wrong.

3# broccoli florets
2 pints half n half
2# velveeta
4 cups water
1 cup cornstarch mixed into 1 cup cold water
1.5 tsp salt
1.5 tsp pepper

  • Steam broccoli until tender. Drain.
  • Place half-and-half and 4 cups water in top of double boiler (or just a large pot but you have to use low heat and be diligent with stirring to keep from scorching on the bottom)
  • Add cheese, salt and pepper. Heat until cheese is melted. I’ve found that if you cube up the velveeta it melts much faster.
  • Mix cornstarch and 1 cup cold water in small bowl. Stir into cheese mixture and heat over simmering water until soup thickens.
  • Add broccoli.

Yum!

Cheese Dip

Ingredients

  • Hamburger (up to you how meaty you like it, I’ve tries lots of combos, basically anywhere between a pound to 2 pounds (super meaty) for every brick of Velveeta).
  • Onion or 2, again, depends how much you like. I love sautéed onion
  • Fresh Jalapeno, de-seeded and de-ribbed (don’t worry the spice comes from elsewhere)
  • Chipotles in adobo sauce
  • Velveeta (again, however many you want how big of a batch you plan to make)
  • Taco Seasoning
  • Sugar
  • Rotel, I prefer low sodium because the seasoning and Velveeta already has a ton of salt lol. 2 cans for every brick of cheese you use, but can also add more.

Start by sautéing onions and then add the burger. Put in taco seasoning, again depends on amount of burger you chose, you can’t really go wrong. Also add some sugar for sweet component that will caramelize. A little before you think it’s done, drain the burger grease and then taste because when you drain you loose a lot of seasoning. Re-add any taco or sugar as you see fit.

Already have your Velveeta chopped up and in the crock pot. Pour hot meat over the Velveeta.

Add as many diced, and de-seeded/ribbed jalapenos as you want. It isn’t that spicy de-seeded, it adds a great fresh component.

Spice comes from the chipotles in adobo, you want that smoky flavor they give. So take some out of the can, de-seed them too and then slice them to a pupl, a literal pulp so it just melts into the sauce. Pour some adobo sauce in if you want, I do.

Then let cook. Shit rules. I have won competitions with it.

No real idea. We don’t do anything for the potatoes at all. Just plant and forget.

We were sort of dry here, so I think soil conditions were just right. We got timely rains, but they weren’t excessive, so the ground was never super dry or super soggy. Then they are in the shade of a big cottonwood tree, so they get sun, but they don’t get it full force all day long when it’s hot.

My brother built a potato plow, so we dig up a row of potatoes in pretty much 30 seconds. Then throw them in a skid loader bucket and away we go. We dug and picked up two skid loader buckets in 20 minutes. Works slick.

Barring injury he will play at a high level for the next few seasons, question for me is, will he stay healthy, which I think ftmp he would, and how soon after the ink dries on the extension will he start bitching about his contract.

What has Hunter done?
He isn’t worth the annual, “my contract isnt fair” routine.

Trade him for at least a 2nd.
He hasn’t done enough in my book to say he is a difference maker over the last 3 years.

8 sacks in 6 games (in addition to 21 additional pressures) doesn’t impress you?

His mid term production is a big question mark.

Not worth the annual drama for me.

I can see that side of it.

But I do think he proved himself after his injury/surgery, and he re-worked his contract in the team’s favor already. IF he can stay healthy and keep up production I have nothing against paying him another contract.

To be REALLY effective, he does need a complimentary player on the other end of the line.

The Vikings should trade for Chase Young.

With. Tell the davenport to hit the Couch. Just leave him on IR and recoup what you can in active per game bonus.

that would be a good dead. Two rushers would be nice. If Hunter is hard to deal with in off season. you still have Young to build around.

Wants to be paid, i’m afraid he’ll hit the couch if we do so. I’d take a 2nd, at least. 1st easy.

From what I have seen, the defense looks a bit more “busy” this year, which is good. I think we just lack genuine talent. We are so dry on talent we are playing a senior-citizen safety because we have no one better.

Got to nail those drafts, Kwesi.

If moving on from Hunter helps for the future, go for it.

The “if” there is a rather a big condition. If I knew Cine and Both would be starters, good ones ……….

Is this movie review the greatest contribution to mankind ever? Probably not. It likely falls somewhere between Michelangelo’s David statue and pasteurization…

Read the whole review, kind of makes me want to see the movie, one of my favorite lines from your review…

This scene causes a lot of suspension of disbelief that is difficult to overcome. No reputable scientist would go so Fauci, I mean, far, as to test a hastily prepared treatment on patients before it has been fully vetted.
