Parcells would’ve kicked him in the groin. Ditka would have called him a pussy… over and over, and over. Yeah, we live in the kinder, gentler world these days.

For sure.
My Little League coaches were tougher than Parcells and just about every coach I played for was like that. And for about two thirds of my professional bosses treated us like crap.
And then some pretty good leaders came along that were just as demanding, but treated people with dignity and respect – and got even better results.
There is a world of difference between being demanding for exceptional results and that of being toxic treating people in a demeaning way.

Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never hurt me.

That was what I was taught as a child.

No one’s words have ever made me feel bad about myself, ever, in my life.

No one can make you feel bad about yourself, without your permission.

You and I grew up that way. Times are different.
At one time, I had over 20k people working for me. I was demanding as hell for results – but I always treated people with respect and expected every leader in our organization to do the same.
And I firmly believe that is the way to get the best results.
You mention Parcells, I would have fired him and replaced him with Joe Gibbs or Bill Walsh.
There is simply no good reason to treat people in a toxic manner.

There are many reasons to be hard on people. Obviously the most important one is to test their mettle. See if they can take it. That was what Basic Training was all about. Weed out the weaklings.

Now, before you get me wrong, I agree with you wholeheartedly that leaders who are “toxic” as you say, are self-defeating in the end, and result in bad morale. I am 100% on your side.

Even in prison you have people who respond to ‘tough love’ and some who see it as a challenge to stand up to.

I found it you treated them per the rules most of them were ok with that. A few AssHats thought that meant you were soft and so they pushed back so you had to be a hard case back with them.

Fun times, not dissimilar to the Army just percentages were far less AssHats to deal with.

The left remains diabolical…

The Harris campaign hired lawyer Marc Elias, a key player in the Russia collusion hoax. He commissioned the Steele dossier, which falsely alleged that Donald Trump conspired with Russia to influence the 2016 election. The Federal Election Commission fined both the Clinton campaign and the Democratic National Committee for misreporting Elias’s work as “legal expenses” instead of opposition research. And that was it. No one went to jail, and the media basically dropped the whole thing after spending months telling the public total lies, without apology. They just went on to the next bogus Trump character assassination spiel.

Of course now mainstream media outlets are downplaying that a presidential nominee hired a lawyer who helped create the Russia collusion hoax and pressured states to change their voting laws.

The left is as sinister as they come.

They are diabolical because they are ‘allowed’ to be. If we had a free and unbiased press their behavior would change because it simply would have to.
With no one to call pass interference, you’re going to see a lot more interference – why not?

Trump is being criticized for not being a good politician, because he isn’t one. He’s a businessman. He believes in telling it like it is, not what other politicians think the voters want to hear.

He won in 16 because suburban women didn’t like Hillary and he got votes. Four years later, and the turmoil of his first term (not appealing to many women), he lost this group.
To win, he needs to win back this group. And attacking Kamala personally will almost guarantee they don’t come to him.
He needs to stick to ‘issues,’
And whether you and I like it, and even if he likes it or not, part of the job requires him to be a politician (my opinion). He is no longer just a business man.

i was just remembering the game the game where Peterson missed Eric Dickerson record by 9 yards, beating the packers to make the playoffs.

I was driving home from Montana, listening to the game on the radio. I don’t remember how many carries he had, but it felt like every play was “handoff to peterson” “handoff to peterson”….man that was a fun game to listen to.

There’s different ways to lead. Remember Bobby Knight said “I get more out of my players with a kick in the ass, than I do with a pat on the back”. Flo may have bought into that. I’ll tell you sometimes a person needs a hardass coach to get the best out of them.

Well, given where you live you hear this also, most all the Miami fans wouldn’t give you two cents for Flores as a coach. And not just the Tua relations, but also throwing coaches and other players under the bus when things go bad. It’s more than the hard ass thing.

Hock is under contract to the Vikings, and the team can play him or sit him as they see fit. They can trade him too. A contract in the NFL means a team owns you, and you don’t get a vote (if that’s how they want to play their hand).

Players get benched.
Players are pulled if the game is out of reach.
Players don’t play “out of an abundance of caution”.

When we first bought the bar we owned, there was a guy in one night, he looked familiar but no one could remember his name. Turns out, he was a local grown guy, but had moved to Oregon or Washington right out of high school. He was in his 60’s at this point.

He seemed fairly normal, but was making some very provocative comments to our bartender. He didn’t seem overly drunk and the bartender said he only had three drinks since he came in.

We started talking to him and it turns out, he was back to help move his mom into an assisted living facility. My friend, who happened to be sitting with us, was the realtor that sold his mom’s house. This guy starts talking about how my friend ripped off his mom and so on.

We finally get tired of him and tell him the bar is closing, and he leaves. But, when he gets out side he takes off running towards his apartment.

We dimmed all of the lights so it looked like we were closed. Next thing I know he is walking by the windows from the opposite direction he went when he left. He sees us looking out the windows and takes off running and he trips when he gets to the corner of the building.

Me and two of my friends go out to see if he is okay, and he gets up and takes off running again, getting about half a block before he trips again. We go up to help him up and he looks like he just got done fighting a mountain lion. Cheek is cut and already selling, glasses all bent to shit. So we help him up and walk him up to his apartment. Get him laid down in his bed with a bag of ice for the swelling. He asks who we are and what we do. So we tell him, then he asks if we are secret agents. We confirm we are not secret agents.

A few months later, I was talking to a police officer friend of mine. I was telling him about the situation. It turns out after we left him in his apartment, he went looking for us and the police got called. He made it all the way to his neighbors front door and fell and passed out. He told the cops that he was going to find the secret agents.

TL;DR read it it is funny.

I never really understood the thought process there…

The hearing for the order of protection filed by my granddaughter against her cousin was held today (at least in Montana when an order of protection is filed it is temporarily granted for 20 days, and a hearing must take place within the 20 days). The cousin did not testify, a subordinate of his at his place of employment did testify (“he lied under oath” my GD sez heh heh). A permanent order of protection was granted, he cannot be within 500 feet of her with the exception of the local HS football field and gym where the order is reduced to 100 feet so that he can watch his son play.

The order can only be rescinded now by my GD. Until it is rescinded it cannot be expunged from his record, although by my understanding it won’t appear on a criminal background check, only more of an individual background check such as what hospitals do.

Oh, I had laid out the events in some detail on here previously. For the sake of brevity, his 8th grade daughter was allowed to participate in varsity BB and track and played alongside my GD, a senior. Apparently the 8th grader told her parents that GD did not welcome her to the team nor defend her when the other senior girls on the BB team expressed annoyance that they were benched so an 8th grader could play. Another angst was my GD refused to switch positions in the 4×100 relay at divisionals. Coaches said my GD was always a good and polite teammate.

Started with the 51 year old cousin/father sending a text calling her the C word on Mother’s Day. Family blocked him, assuming he would calm down. The 18 year old brother of the 8th grader started sending her threatening and demeaning snap chats. Then during the playoffs for the local legion baseball team (that the brother was playing in), the 51 year old approached her with a beer in his hand, called her the B word and said he hoped to never see her again, and spilled beer on her, in front of many witnesses. My daughter who was with us at the nearby rodeo received a dozen texts from mothers in attendance at the baseball game as well as a tearful call from the GD…asked what to do, I advised speaking to the deputies at the rodeo as the passive response was not working and they recommended filing an order of protection.

Spent about $200 mostly on meat. That is where the biggest savings is.
I figured if I don’t spend at least that much we lose out since we are paying for the gas to go 75 miles one way.
CRV gets good gas milage and they gas is cheaper on the base so we fill up there. More meat we get the more we save, some other stuff is cheaper and some is pricer we are learning.

so one of my co-workers asked a vikings qb trivia question today and it brought me back to our 1998 year.

I just realized, i’m a fair weather fan. That’s the year (1998) i truly became a vikings fan. I watched every single game that year (i hadn’t really watched every game of a season before them and i’m sure it’s because my dad got into it as well)

How could the 1987 season escape you?

Backed into the playoffs.
Stomped the Saints
Stomped the 49ers.
Almost beat the Redskins for a Super Bowl berth.

1987 was the most exciting season of the last 40 years for me.

For some reason, I didn’t watch as much that year. It was maybe because I started junior high and got distracted by how weird life was becoming.

I’m very emotionally mature for my age!

I feel like I can dimly remember the Vikings losing to the Redskins, but mostly I was neck-deep in trying to figure out how everyone in my class had changed so much over the summer.

Puberty was a trip, man!

I also remember I started paying more attention to the Rams than the Vikings for a bit because I really liked Eric Dickerson. I was also a Raiders fan and remember them winning the Super Bowl pretty well in 1984.

I even had silver and black moon boots.
