The tide of the game turned when Alexander Mattison fumbled the ball (yeah, we’ve heard this story before) in the 4th quarter. The defense seemed weaker after that play, and the offense lost its pizazz. For the life of me, I have no clue why we aren’t seeing Mattison in more of a RB2 role, because he’s not showing us that he’s a feature back. He looked a bit better carrying the ball, but I think they have beter options on the roster.
The Vikings finally got their running game into a bit of a rythm. They stlll weren’t dominant out there, but they were at least able to get some yards on the ground. Dobbs made some tremdnous plays with his arms and with his legs throughout the game, and he got a TD both on the ground and through the air. The offensive line did a solid job against a stout Broncos D-line, and opened up some nice holes for the RBs, and gave Dobbs pretty good protection, FTMP.
The defense continued their strong 2023 campaign as they held the Broncos defense mostly in check. They held the Broncos to 0 touchdowns in 4 visits to the red zone. Well, then on the final Broncos drive, the defense went into “prevent you from winning” mode, and allowed chunk play after chunk play. The Broncos drove down the field with ease, and they decided to allow their first touchdown of the day with a minute left. Dammit.
In the end, the Vikings did not do enough to win the game, and they are now 6-5 on the season. The stupid Bears did not hold their lead against the Lions, and the stupid Chargers peed their pants against the Peckers. All in all, it was a crap day for football yesterday.
Minnesota Vikings Discussion Topic of the Day
Let’s talk about the final series for the Vikings and the final series for the Broncos (the TD series, not the kneel down). The Broncos threw screens underneath & chewed up yards while our defense backed off and allowed that to happen. After they’d been aggressive all day, the defense stopped blitzing. The Broncos, on the other hand, got more aggressive and shut down the Vikings and did not allow the comeback.

Thread Guidelines
- Keep politics out. We are adults, news happens, and we can talk about it. What we don’t want is to go down the rabbit holes and turn a productive conversation into name calling and personal attacks.
- Be cool to one another. Like it says above, just be civil. You don’t need to agree with everyone and that’s fine, you also don’t need to make it personal. Attack the argument not the poster.
- Keep the NSFW to a minimum. We don’t need anyone getting in trouble at work for hanging out here.
- All in all, be adults. Treat each other with respect and things will be fine. Mods will take out content they feel is pushing the boundary. If you want to reach out about something feel free to ask. We want to have robust discussions, that’s why we’re here. Just be civil and cool to one another.
Down goes KC,
up 17 – 7 at the half.
lose 21 – 17.
I hate the Eagles, but I am so sick of all the KC hype.
Understand and agree.
This is cool. There are more commitments in the replies too.
If I had something to advertise I would consider it.
If I had the money to do it of course.
If I had anything to do with Twitter/X.
Never Mind….
There are still people in my family who only watch, and actually believe every lie from MSM. UGH!!!
I live in Calif.
I know your pain.
Move
A couple of thoughts:
I hate commercials.
Has anyone noticed that some NFL officials are now sporting facial hair. Did a rule change or something?
No commercials or facial hair on my on-line box score feed.
Sounds like more reasons to avoid TV.
I like to watch on slight delay so I can fast forward through them, or obviously also watch recorded games for same reason, Can’t sit through commercials anymore.
Sports commercials have always been better than most.
I don’t know if ‘woke’ changed that as it has been several years since I watched any.
Dean Lowry to IR.
Chris Reed Activated off of IR.
Kareem Jackson has been suspended by the NFL for 4 games due to his hit on Dobby.
Good. He could have really hurt Dobbs. Where was the flag?
Per KOC in the post game presser.
‘The rule is the rule but they didn’t throw the flag’.
About the most he can say about the officiating without being fined.
Still unhappy with the loss. We were clearly the better team, but in the final minutes of the game, we crumbled. The turnovers resulted in “gimme” points that we ultimately couldn’t overcome. Just pains me to see this crop up again, because honestly, all three of our losses to start the season were due to turnovers.
Truth
Issues that led to the 0-3 start have not been cleaned up for good, it seems. Same old 2023 Vikings.
We’ve lost to some good teams this year, but this game and the Bucs are particularly painful to me.
I like Josh Dobbs, but he needs to improve his ball security.
I have no doubt that he has been told about ‘tucking the ball in securely’ when he runs his whole career. Interceptions happen, only way to guarantee not to get any is to not throw the ball.
He is a smart guy, not sure where the disconnect is. Seems to be the one thing holding him back.
Dobbs has played really well. But I’d say accuracy may be a bit of an issue too.
That interception wasn’t on him though.
We were taught both in the Army and with the Prison that situation when you pull the trigger is not always the same as when the bullet gets to the target.
4D moving puzzle sometimes. Receiver speeds up/slows/stops/turns/tips or drops ball. None of it easy except in hindsight. Know I couldn’t do it so kind of give a pass to when things don’t go exactly right.
Obviously bad throws happen, Some of Dobbys throws have been excellent so I am not sure of the ‘accuracy issue’ narrative.
As I said, I think he has played really well. After watching him, was thinking he’s smart, runs well, What gives – why hasn’t he stuck before this – not all the teams are run by idiots.
Read around, and folks were saying he’s not a “natural thrower” and has some accuracy issues down the field. I have no idea.
Clearly everyone at the NFL level can throw and at times may get really hot – so who knows what is and what is long term.
Really no big deal to me at this time. He seems fine.
I have heard that everywhere he has been they already have ‘their guy’, i.e. Rothesburger in Pittsburg were he sat for 4 years.
So if a HC or GM paid for or drafted for ‘their guy’, Arizona has Murry and drafted Tune, they want to stick with them.
As he has always viewed as the ‘backup guy’ it is easier/less risky to move on from him.
No doubt that they are other factors but no-one has said he is not a good person/teammate/worker.
He seems like a great guy and teammate.
Will say this. after watching Cleveland a few games this year, they were absolutely stupid getting rid of hime. Their backups suck and Watson even when not hurt is hardly it anymore.
Oh. Tune, wow. And I’m not crazy about Murray either.
I’m going to correct myself, some of these teams are idiots.
I heard it reported that Cleveland had no plans to trade him and he was to be Watsons backup until someone offered a 5th for him.
Reading about his last year is crazy, He gets traded so people willing to give up draft picks for him.
I am thinking a former QB head coach and a solid team around him have had much to do with his ‘looking good’ in Minn.
it’s weird, he couldn’t even stick on a roster as a backup and then all of a sudden he’s playingwell for The vikings, maybe KOC is really good at getting good QB play out of anyone.
He stuck just fine, He was traded not cut.
The first fumble was on an illegal torpedo hit that wasnt flagged. Thats a pass. The pick is one that happens, he got hit while throwing. He has less turn overs than Kirk in 3 games thant Kirk had in his first 3 games
Ty can kinda block
Maybe doesn’t block like Mattison but offensive skills far superior. IMHO. Why KOC doesn’t see it i have no idea.
They rushed only four. Who was 67 blocking?
Nobody, as usual.
Looking for a teenaged girl obviously.
The guy came right throw Ingrams inside gap. I’ve no idea how they set their protection, but normally anyone coming through your inside gap is your responsibility.
Correct?

What definition of ‘Best’ is being used?
Most followers would be Biggest, not ‘Best’.
Rick annoys a lot of people.
Including Viking players.
So if he means the Best at annoying people then he is right.
I think I saw a ‘little too much’ at the end of that video.
Not going back to recheck however.
I probably should have watched til the very end.
Apparently he is a Kirk fan.
Just put a NSFW warning on it and call it good.
Think they still have #2 and #3, guessing another qb.
I am down four points in Fantasy Football.
Opponent has Kelce to play yet.
I have Mahomes and D’Andre Swift.
I should be okay. If Kelce gets points it is because Mahomes is getting points throwing to him, so I just need Swift to have an average score.
I also have Dobbs and was going to play him instead of Mahomes, since Dobbs has gotten decent points while Mahomes was bad and on a bye. When I saw my opponent has Kelce, I figured I’d just match him with Mahomes.
kelce direct snaps ALL NIGHTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT
Maybe you need Taylor also.
Taylor MaAuto?
Since Taylor Swift will be there, D’Andre Swift should ball out!!
Jets bench Zach Wilson for Boyle
Falcons go back to Ridder.
Staley still has a job after losing to FTP.
I would have thought Staley would be canned if they lost.
staley is like a cat with nine lives.
Must have pictures on the Spanos family.
jessie spano??
Head of the Class?
Dobbs has to cleanup the turnovers – I think he can, I fear he won’t.
I like the scrambling element Dobbs brings – but there were times last night I felt he had the opportunity to pull the ball down and run and he instead made an effort to stay behind the LoS and find an open receiver looking for a big play – I like this in most cases, but the strength of Denver’s D is the secondary and Dobbs doesn’t have the requisite arm strength to zip balls into tight windows – several batted passes and near-interceptions.
I AM excited to see what the scrambling element brings when we get JJ back – I think he’s a smart football player and incredibly instinctual and brings a dangerous element to these types of plays – or at least I hope so.
Also, it was only a few plays, but Anthony Barr looked fresh and fast to me. He was a fairly effective blitzer iirc – wondering if BFlo uses him more.
it’s tough because he did this exact thing for a TD
Yup – and I loved it. Just felt in the 2nd half there were several opportunities for him to make 2nd & long into 3rd & manageable.
i agree. i loved it too.
it’s tough. there were times i for sure thought “just run it dude”
You guys trying to get a second QB on IR. Scramble to escape pressure and then get the ball to the guys who get paid to do something with it.
I think it’s obvious why we lost that game…
Dobb’s sucks in primetime!!
You know what the similarity in Dobbs’ Vikings primetime loss and almost all of Kirk’s Vikings primetime losses is?
Mattison.
MATTISONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN
Mattison accounted for 34% of our offensive plays according to Twitter.
That picture of KOC looks tough. But after watching the NFL for a long time, wonder about something.
Have we run the ball well this year? Have we beaten anyone with out running game?
Our strength is our WR’s, not our RB’s. So why do we keep trying to run the ball.
Balance attack right – what has trying to get this done for us.
We beat the Niners with no running game. We put 28 (without JJ fumble) on the Eagles and no running game.
Why not just throw short, possession type passes. And if you must, throw in a running play once in a while. .
This is accurate
https://twitter.com/IvanCarter9/status/1726668416331968528?t=bxoSFhc3wZ7V1MAjsMc8Fg&s=19
I’m pretty sure his knee was down before the ball came loose.
these kind of calls are tough. If Hock jut holds on to ball against Chargers we win.
If only……
If the dog wouldn’t have stopped to take a shit he would have caught the rabbit.
we still lose. we run 3 times and punt (i don’t remember where on the field this was, but this is MY narrative), they use all 3 timeouts, we only run like 10 seconds off the clock, they get 35yard punt return, and score in 4 plays to win the game either way
Accurate?
Nah, the plays were there just no execution. Oline trouble, bad defense, something something.
He’s the boss and should shoulder the blame, however, he didn’t turn the ball over 3 times.
I’d say yes.
I wouldn’t underestimate the Mattison fumble though…..
@has he been benched yet?@
I’d say we were the better team, yet we lost. At the end of the day, it’s coach fair or not. But in losses, there’s always a lot to second guess.
How would Kirk play this?
https://twitter.com/AddisonEra2/status/1726645755715391686?t=wrvvttpDHIYy-88gw6wyoQ&s=19
Right? He was under immediate pressure. Kirk would have taken the sack.
Maybe.
I think Kirk would have hit the hot route immediately.
Not sure it goes for a first down though.
Except Cousins usually doesn’t get rid of the ball quick enough.
If that was the first read on the play call, Kirk probably makes the throw.
If Kirk IDs the blitz, he’s damn near robotic in hitting the hot route when it’s right in front of him. I think he probably would have completed the throw since Dobbs is looking that way right off the snap.
But not 100% sure the #4 makes it 10 yards.
i can think of 30 qb’s who would have probably gotten sacked or done EXACTLY what dobbs did there. including kirk.
Correct.
Which goes completely against the headline of:
“One of those plays where you just sit back and think “If only Kirk had an achilles”
I was just curious to see what people thought. Twitter seems to think Kirk would have done something.
Only option would be to immediately ID the blitz and hit #4 over the middle. Doubt he makes it to a first down.
Personally I think Kirk might have hit #4 for 7ish yards and we would hear about how he sucks and checked it down…next option was a sack. Only time Kirk cuts loose immediately is if he IDs the blitz.
If he doesn’t, he’s sacked
Since middle LB blitzed, #4 is wide open and could run after catch a long ways.
Like the rest of your narrative.
‘could run after catch a long ways.’
Not so much since the play started on the 12 yd line.
if he caught it and then ran the OPPOSITE direction, he could have been a long ways
He could have pulled a Jim Marshall?
exactly. i think that’s what he meant by could have run a long ways
I thought the safety would have closed on that immediately.
But the screen doesn’t show it.
This is pretty easy – look at 2 second mark. Just step up and hit the wide open receiver crossing right in front of QB ‘s face.
Well, one problem with that.
Kirk doesn’t release the ball that quick.
Yep, it was there. Dobbs wasn’t looking for the hot route.
Agreed.
Kirk would have stayed in the pocket and hit the gif breaking over the middle short of the sticks
@mikeklis
NFL source confirmed league reviewing #roncos‘ safety Kareem Jackson’s hit on Josh Dobbs on opening series last night.
Jackson has already drawn 4 fines totaling $89,670 (appeals reduced), ejected twice and suspended 2 games, costing him another $279,444 in paychecks. #9sports
The Hitman was asked about Jackson on McCafee a few weeks ago.
He said he had to relearn how to play/hit after his flags since the NFL has changed so much since he played in HS and Collage.
I heard they hadn’t invented the forward pass yet when Harry was in college so of course he would have to learn to play different.
They had not invented helmets when he was in HS so Helmet to Helmet was not a thing.
Everyone else had to learn not to lead with the helmet.
Refs of course likely won’t face any consequences for not throwing a blatantly obvious flag that would have negated the fumble. Thanks, NFL.
This has nothing to do with last nights game, or even football. As I was going through some books this morning I came upon a book called, Reflections: Poems for the VFW & Auxiliary. I’m not really a poetry guy, but this poems, by what I can only assume was a Vietnam veteran, is powerful.
My Country
This is my country,
Which I fought for,
Killed for,
And which now hates me.
I must be crazy.
They say I left a man,
But then why am I treated like an animal?
I left a patriot,
But came back a traitor?
I do not understand.
I just wonder.
Why has this all changed?
And why haven’t I?
Should I change?
Can I change?
Do I even want to change?
My country may have been wrong.
But why am I?
By Jason Gauthier
The way Vietnam Vets were treated was criminal.
I get that war was way too political but the soldiers didn’t have any say about serving in it.
Logic did not apply. Those guys have had it rough.
I wouldn’t say I personally had it tuff. But at the time, when I traveled, tried to always wear civy’s
As I understood it troops returning from Nam were required to wear their uniform until they reached CONUS.
I could of course be mistaken.
They were – most came through Oakland.
When I traveled around CONUS, not as part of duty, usually always wore civey’s . People just looked down on military guys.
Yeah I don’t remember being ‘required’ to wear the uniform even when flying MAC.
I suspect they changed the requirement after what those guys endured.
Just say a lot of people should be absolutely ashamed of themselves.
Emotional reactions driven by Ideology.
A lot of that goes on now-a-days.
Could understand people against the war, but most of the guys were draftees and didn’t have a choice. Why trash them.
They were a visible symbol of the war.
Virtue Signaling was a thing even back then.
I was a big Forest Gump fan, until they re=0-de the scene where he is in DC and he is swept up on stage. Before 9/11 the banners in the background read Peace not War, and such. After 9/11, I think is when they changed the banners to say we support our troops.
I prefer Peace but we are not always given a choice.
My Liberal Nana (rest in peace) told me once that ‘war is always wrong’.
I replied ‘Really? Tell the slaves in the Civil War and the Jews in WWII that’.
She had no response.
It also shows how easily people are manipulated by the political/media machine. You can see how that is happening today.
ie. police officers.
FBI
The FBI is being used by the political machine and police officers are being abused by the political machine. It’s sad really.
And there are Americans now saying that 9/11 was justified and Bin Laden was righteous.
I’m not surprised. If you want to gain power, one of the main tools to do so is chaos and another is to brainwash the young.
‘Let no crisis go to waste’
Winston Churchill and Nancy Pelosi
Of course, a lot of that is the fault of parents. If they would teach their children and instill in them their belief system, they would be less likely to be so easily swayed by college professors and other loonies at college.
Parents don’t want to parent any more, too hard.
They want to be their child’s ‘friend’ instead.
The Teacher deals with those Morons on a daily Basis, says it is the worst part of her job.
And People saying the Hamas attacks were justified because Israel was being mean to them.
But those same people are saying that the IDF moves to clean out the terrorist tunnels are war crimes.
‘Ones perspective on a thing is wholly dependent on were one stands in relation to that thing’.
I’d argue that they aren’t Americans, they’re traitors…
I do not disagree with your assessment.
Technically to be ‘traitors’ they would have to be Americans.
Traitorous Americans is what they are.
I have a Feminist SIL (it is Calif) who argues for Muslims, I ask her do you even understand what Sharia Law would do to you??
She pretty much hates me, I am ok with it.
Stick your guns SoCal.
@guns are banned in Calif@
How about Idaho?
They are embraced there.
Open Carry Laws, they even have a law that says any citizen using a gun to defend another person who they believe to be threatened is ‘olly olly oxen free’.
If a person isn’t concerned about todays society you best start.
Back in seminary we had a saying that some people were “so heavenly minded that they are no earthly good.”
I see that in extreme liberalism also. They are so wrapped up in “causes” that they can’t see reality.
And a “feminist” arguing pro-muslim has got to be one of the dumbest things ever.
Feminists don’t want equality they want to be in charge.
In Prison Female Officers didn’t do some of the jobs Males had to do. Those were they dirty no one wanted to do.
Had one who was preggers, they wanted to put her in ‘light duty’, she refused. Later incident and she fell, lost the child and then sued the state.
If they want to be equal let’s include them in any future Military Draft.
That is interesting. Was she successful?
The only correlate I have is radiation workers (ie me, rad techs, etc) declaring pregnancy, which is optional. However, once pregnancy is declared the woman usually sits down with the radiation safety officer and has a chat. From the point of declaration forward steps must be taken to limit dose to fetus to 500 mrem or less. They wear a dosimeter over their abdomen and under their lead to monitor the fetus dose as well as a regular dosimeter at their thyroid collar.
Many technologists in diagnostic imaging choose not to declare their pregnancy as they don’t get much exposure in day to day radiology. However, that doesn’t mean they get to go back and sue the hospital if their baby is born with three heads.
^^This^^
Reminds me of the plot of “The Forever War” by Joe Haldeman (which was based on his experience in Vietnam).
KOC looked pissed in his Post Game presser.
He was asked multiple times about the call on the Dobby hit/fumble. He tried to be ‘politically correct’ but at the end after explaining ‘it was a fast play and the officials saw it differently’ he was asked if Dobby being considered a ‘runner’ at that point made a difference.
At that point he stated ‘The rule is the rule and they didn’t throw the flag’, he picked up his notes and walked off.
Lots of people seem to believe Kareem Jackson will be suspended for that hit.
https://sports.yahoo.com/twitter-reacts-kareem-jackson-hitting-021010009.html
The hit should’ve drawn a flag. So should’ve the late hit on Powell. Is what it is. On to Chicago.
Yeah, that late hit on the sideline was pretty obvious… wtf? That’s the one right? I don’t remember who it was on.
I’m waiting to watch the replay but i thought the late hit on Powell was Singleton. I’m in the road and will watch the All 22 tonight.
Jackson has been fined/ejected/suspended already this season for helmet to helmet hits.
In fact this was his first game back from that suspension.
I was surprised he returned from that hit, thought he would be in concussion protocol. Yes, definitely should have been flagged.
I was worried he was concussed ala Purdy (diagnosed after the game) but both the touchdown pass and his touchdown run looked like he was doing ok.
Interesting
he’s putting too much faith into the defense.
they held for 3.85 quarters, but ultimately failed when we needed them most….
just put the nail in the freaking coffin KOC
Morning Skolobrobros!
Alright…. I’m over it. Losing sucks. Losing to the scab QB is awful. Whatevs. Moving on!
Cant wait to get the taste out of our mouth with a MNF win over Chi-Raq.
Me and the Goose got some work to do. Happy Monday!
Skol!
More important than football:
Bingo.
I knew the “smokeless” had nothing to do with weed.
Dobbs is producing more TDs a game than Cousins.
Dobbs: 7 TDs in 3 games. 2.33/game
4 pass 3 rush
Kirk: 18 TDs in 8 games. 2.25/game
I was really looking forward to that game last night. Not shocked, but definitely disappointed.
I believe ‘disappointed’ is the appropriate word/response to last nights game.
i was having the doubts all week. figured we would have a stinker of a game.
I know it has been hashed over already, but I was disappointed in the lose last night. I was more disappointed in how they lost it. -3 in turnovers is not a blueprint for success. Without the turnovers we probably would have won by a large margin.
Almost all our loses this year go back to turnovers.
I was entertained. We played well most of the game, Joseph hit all his kicks, and defense stopped the run.
I suspect that is why the loss is so frustrating/disappointing.
We played well and turnovers and a couple of mistakes gave it away.
Exactly.
I really hated yesterday’s game.
Mattison averages less than a yard per carry inside the 15.
Denver is looking for the run.
So many options there to fuck them into oblivion …..or dial up two runs and hope your D saves your ass.
Play action to Oliver?
Play action bootleg?
Anything but the runs they were just waiting for?
Bingo.
Can’t be him. Got too much forward progress.
Hahaha
ok i watched through my squinted eyes and hands over my eyes….
you got me. good one
Yeah. I was gotted as well.
Thought it would actually be Mattison.
Pretty funny though.
I am looking forward to re-watching this game. There were a few moments where the refs seemed to get things wrong, i.e. the late hit on Powell. It also seemed like every time it was a close play at the line to gain, we came up short and Denver was given the first down.
So Broncos got the hometown discount from the refs? Couldn’t watch the game as it started at 2am over here, wouldn’t surprise me one bit, though.
It seems that way, but the refs did not cost us the game.
Sean Buttface Peyton looks fat, probably why he wears a baggy sweatshirt. Dobbs is Dobbs, doubt he cleans up the TO’s its been his MO his entire career.
Accurate
i did hate seeing him on the sideline. he’s so smug

HALL SZNNNNNNNN
Honestly… why not? Let’s figure out this year who the starter is for next year haha.
Why not instead win a bunch of the remaining games and make the playoffs?
I think Hall could win as many games as Dobbs… Until he proves otherwise lol.
Well, I guess he could be another Dan Morino until we see otherwise.
Vikings will re-sign Kirk, book it.
Unless they can find someone who can throw the ball as well – kind of an important thing.
If they do that, I will honestly believe the Wilfs sit down and actually discuss what is the most boring thing they can possibly do, and as soon as they have ascertained the most boring status quo decision they can possibly make, they get on their beige phone and order it done.
Boring ? Certainly not at this site. but most football analysts through out the country had Kirk playing in the top 10 this year, and some even better.
Now, Dobbs comes in and he is playing at a very high level. So, we’ve had two QB’s playing at a high level this year.
Pretty sure KOC and KAM (and Wilfs) will be able to sit down at the end of season and figure out what’s best going forward for the team.
And looking around the league and the level of QB play, either one will be able to find a job next year.
I don’t remember Kirk being compared to Mahomes, but they were comparing Dobbs to Mahomes last night. Just sayin.
LOL, yeah that was ridiculous, Collinsworth is a total clown.
He even tried to keep himself from doing it, but in the end he just couldn’t help himself.
Did you miss the broader point.
Regardless, anyone that compares anyone to Mahomes needs some serious help.
It’s a joke,

I knew that, was speaking a little beyond the mole hill.
Collinsworth is an idiot, but it was kind of nice hearing praise for a Vikings QB and not seeing Kirk’s primetime stats 100 times during the game.
Top 10 is a mirage. When the brain hears “top 10” it thinks top 10 percent, but there are only 32 NFL teams.
Got to be top 3 to be in the top 10 percent in the NFL.
Basically, one out of three teams has a “top 10” QB. It isn’t worth what people think it is worth.
Did you watch the level of QB play in the league yesterday? Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Jets etc.
Agree top 10 is a little BSish. But everyone, perhaps not here, had him playing at a very high level.
And Dobbs is playing very well too.
I agree. The QB market is wrecked. Most of them get paid too much. It’s not worth it.
A guy like Dobbs can come in and give decent production for a fraction of the cost.
Even Allen is showing he is not worth it. Burrows got hurt after getting $55 million. Mahomes has even been down this year.
High-priced QBs are a trap. We’ve got one playoff win after an interminable number of boring years with Kirk. If the team doesn’t move on, they show they don’t care about winning, just about maintaining status quo.
The complication comes from the front loading of void years in 2024. I believe that happens if he is not signed by the time his contract expires, which is the new league year.
So if a new deal isn’t done by the March deadline, the Vikings eat everything in 2024. Kirk knows this. So how much of a “discount” will he give before that deadline, and how much will KAM agree to?
Tough call.
Something like 49 mil gtd per year instead of 50 mil
And if the Vikings don’t accept that, they are being selfish and unreasonable.
Well, that’s the history.
Kirk took $2 million less per year to sign with the Vikings, over the Jets.
It was a great humanitarian gesture by Kirk.
Think so?
Immediately after Kirk’s injury, I was convinced Cousins would be resigned. However, Bow brought up a valid point regarding the void years hitting the 2024 books if Kirk’s contract expires.
The only way a deal happens is if Kirk and Kam agree before the March deadline. If nothing is agreed to by then, Kirk is a free agent, and the 2024 cap hit for Kirk is automatic.
Given Kirk’s ability to leverage for money, I don’t know how it plays out. Kirk would fleece Slick. KAM is TBD.
Bottom line, I’m about 52-48 that Kirk leaves now.
noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
I literally texted a group of friends in the first quarter last night “KOC’s poor playcalling and incessant and unjustified use of Mattison over Chandler is going to cost them the game”. It was evident that this was one of those games where KOC had his brain turned off from the start. No rollouts from Dobbs, which is where he is effective and can beat pressure? Hockinson pitch to Dobbs? Settling for FG’s when we need to be aggressive? He made one good playcall – the fake punt (to Chandler, of course).
The hock pitch to Dobbs was a weird play. Probably trying to set up a different okay later.
Dumbest call ever. They are expecting run and you run a pitch to your QB from your TE. Oh and your QB gets annihalated.
Fuck why not give Kene more carries? He’ll still get nothing to a yard when nothing is there or reads the blocking wrong (just like Mattison) but at least when it’s an obvious opening or gets in space he could at least make something happen. Mattison just isn’t it. But yeah, MOAR CHANDLER please!
The missed INT at the end of the first half was big.
The biggest play of the game was the momentum-destroying fumble from Mattison.
Also, why no hot routes on the blitzes in the final drive?
Mattison’s fumble also caused the holocaust
It was a big play.
Causing the death of 6 million people sure is a big play.
Not sure why you’re making fun of the fact that it was a big play. Are you saying it wasn’t?
Making fun of things is generally what I do
but to answer your question, it was one of 122 plays and the Vikings still had the lead after it and had plenty of other opportunities to win the game after it. It wasn’t the last play and it wasn’t the only play and it wasn’t the most influential play, it was a big play though.
Agreed. But I’m a firm believer that momentum is a real thing. That killed it for us and gave it to them when they couldn’t get anything going offensively. It put the defense on its heels suddenly instead of dominating like they had been. There are many other plays and they had many chances to get the momentum back, but that single play did have the biggest impact.
I’m just tired of this team being good but losing by shooting themselves in the foot.
And just one big play, one, and the momentum turns right back around.
False, the TD from Wilson to Sutton was the biggest play of the game.
It was more like 10-12 million. 6ish million were Jews.
Which was inspired by The Beatles.
Beatles wouldn’t exist if not for Mattison’s fumble, its science
Then I dislike Mattison even more.
Mattison sucks, but not as bad as the Beatles
As well as the Holodomor. Costly fumble, that one.
Some say the fumble was the original sin.
adam actually fumbled the apple and eve picked it up and ate
The lack of hot routes was a staple of KOCs offense the first few weeks of the season.
The last few Kirk games he went back to them.
Not sure what was going on here. Tough to see down field.
Believe there is a hot receiver design into every play, Now, whether the receiver picks up the blitz and alters his route is another matter.
The first few games of the year I posted a bunch of blitzes and it was very tough to figure out who or what the hot route was. Shortly after they seemed to correct this.
Yesterday it was hard to figure out what the routes were again.
Maybe the all 22 will show something better.
Just from memory – maybe be shaky.
When a team serves up a zero blitz, the inside receiver from the side of the blitz is suppose to alter his route and basically slant behind the free blitzer.
Recall seeing your earlier posts. Thought receivers didn’t do their jobs.
Later, seemed either they altered their routes better or kirk picked it up and audibled the routes.
i’m shocked. a turnover prone qb had a bunch of….turnovers….
didn’t have a good feeling about the denver game, figured dobbs would crash his rocket back into earth at some point.
still really not loving KOC’s play calling in the 2nd half. he was realllllllllly putting alot of pressure on the defense. cool, gutsy fake punt call….but if he stops the run run pass play calling in the 2nd half, he doesn’t need to do gutsy fake punt calls…
also, denver pressured the heck out of dobb’s on our last possession….why did flores feel rushing 3 or 4 and dropping everyone back was the best option? really disappointed in that last defensive stand.
Its funny how the Vikings built a lead by running the ball, then when they kept running the ball all of a sudden KOC is stupid.
not only is KOC stupid, but YOU are stupid. how do you like that logic
also, perhaps i hated the play calling because i hate mattison, idk. I DON’T KNOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW
I don’t like Mattison either, he was playing very well until he fumbled, KOC is dumb for not playing Chandler moar
Mattison sucks. His ball security is a concern, and he doesn’t have the vision or speed to hit open holes often. Chandler is leagues better, which is evident every time he touches the ball. KOC is dumb for forcing Mattison use so much, IMO.
Yeah, I don’t disagree, apparently though Chandler can’t pass block, while Mattison is actually good at that aspect. I would still play Chandler though.
Chandler picked up a blitz to allow Dobbs to throw a completed pass. He can block. Maybe not as good as Mattison.
But Chandler didn’t fumble.
So there.
The int throw was Chandler’s man getting in there.
Mattison’s fumble caused the INT
i heard it also caused Covid
Absolutely
Dobbs also had no pocket awareness on that play (he tends to be cool under pressure but can get squished in the pocket without really knowing) and held the ball too long. Chandler did his job and slowed him down. That’s just as much on Dobbs.
I would say KOC is stupid for running Mattison from the 12 yard line.
Guy has zero rushing TDs.
We try to get him into the end zone over and over.
Dobbs has 3 rushing TDs from about the 10.
Options: hand off to the guy who has been stuffed all drive and has no TDs or let Dobbs throw or scramble which has netted us at least 2 TDs each game he started?
Hmmm.
Fuck it. Let’s run Mattison.
want to know what i would rather have done?
either throw it to JJ or hand it off to a young Adrian Peterson
Wilson’s pass chart.
That’s great, all those completions 10+ were completed against Blackmon, he sucks.
Blackmon looked lost on that TD pass. Should’ve been an easy deflection to stop the play.
That play and he gave up consecutive 20ish yard receptions on another possession
So many check downs
Yet Kirk is the checkdown king lol. Kirk can at least throw past 20 yds.
Cant wait until he’s off the roster so the stans can follow him out of here.
Well, they won’t do that.
A buddy of mine is texting me this morning about how we would have won if Kirk was the QB. This a guy who says, wins aren’t a QB stat. Cousins will forever be the woulda, shoulda, coulda guy enshrined in Vikings lore. The stans will never let it go.
Sorry kiddo, not going to do you this favor.
So you want Vikings fans to leave the Viking fan site just because they have a different opinion than yours?
It would seem, with the number of thumbs down on your post, that YOU are the one with trash takes. 🙂
Issues:
Mattison’s fumble didn’t change the trajectory of the entire game, the defense held them to a FG and still led by 5 after that. Then Dobbs threw the pick, luckily Jeudy dropped a TD pass and the Vikings held them to another FG. Dobbs 3 fumbles, one of which was lost, and pick changed the trajectory of the game way more than Mattison’s fumble. Mattison still sucks though.
100% totally disagree.
Offense was kicking ass and moving the ball well. Denvers’ D was gassed. We were up 17 to 9. A FG there makes it 20 to 9. TD makes it 26 to 9. We were about to break them. Denver was pumped to get that TO. Lit a fire under there offenses ass who had gone 3 and out the other two possessions.
Then they strung together a 5 minute, 47 yard drive.
Vikings can never deliver the kill shot. That was there first chance to deliver one. A TD there and we go up 26 to 9. Instead its 17 to 12. Let them right back into it a literaly changed the entire trajectory of the game.
Mattison’s fumble ended the game immediately and it directly caused Dobbs to turn it over on the next possession, Mattison’s fumble also forced Dobbs to fumble on the first possession thereby also proving time travel is possible. Mattison’s fumble later caused the Vikings to give up the game winning TD and then shit the bed on the last possession and his fumble threw 4 consecutive incompletions to end the game. In fact, Mattison’s fumble caused all 4 Viking SB losses, the Darrin Nelson drop, Gary Anderson’s miss in 98, the bed shitting 41 donut loss, bountygate, and the bed shitting 38-7 loss to the shit eaters. Mattison’s fumble is also at fault for causing the current unrest in Palestine. It was the single most influential event in US history.
The facts check out…
Ok 5.
Nice straw man you built there.
You don’t think going up 27 to 9 or 20 to 9 changed the trajectory of the game?
That was the turning point where it went from looking like the Vikings were firmly in control to a 50/50 game.
Mattison’s fumble also assassinated JFK
LOL
But Mattison would never have fumbled if not for the influence of the Beatles.
Great points. I will say KOC not taking a shot is that Happy to kick a FG or doesn’t have the trust in the QB?
Yeah, it seemed like KOC had low confidence in Dobbs, when they got to the red zone. Afraid of turnovers I would assume.
Which is a little weird seeing how he has rushed for 3 TDs and passed for 3 TDs in the red zone in 3 games.
Running Mattison in the red zone is really really really pointless.
Inside the 20: 23 attempt 21 yards.
Inside the 15: 18 attempts 15 yards
Inside the 10: 11 attempts 10 yards.
Pretty much how I would sum it up as well. We need JJ back to keep defenses honest.
How about that fake punt? Pretty ballsy call and well executed.
That was a fun play, but if it hadn’t worked everyone would be saying how much KOC sucks.
Yup, it’s why I liked the early call to put Hock under center play. I am fine with those calls. Some work out, some don’t.
It’s funny that he went for that fake punt, which was extremely aggressive, and then once we got down to the 12 yard line, dialed up the run run pass kick playcalling.
I think the run, run, pass is more of a lack of trust in Dobbs
They were getting like 7 ypc at that time and Denver has been terrible stopping the run this year so it kinda made sense.
They were getting stuffed all drive on the run plays on that drive.
Mattison for 5
Mattison for 1
Incomplete pass
Fake punt
Mattison for 0 but hold
Mattison screen -1
Dobbs scrambled 1
Dobbs pass 22
Dobbs sneak for 2
Dobbs pass for 4
Dobbs pass for 11
Mattison for 0
Chandler for 0
Dobbs incomplete.
On this drive Denver was working to stop the run. They did.
Pass was working.
We chose not to do what was working.
Sounds like a scripted sequence, almost.
Should have won that game.
Oh well, clean up the turnovers. KOC needs to pull his head out of his buttocks on some of the play calling. OL couldn’t protect in the end. Dobbs is playing with fire on some of his keep-plays-alive throws. Still, he made some fun plays. If Cousins had started, we would have got beat handily. Kirk doesn’t have the wheels to deal with that pressure.
coulda shoulda woulda. That’s why he’s Black Case Keenum.
My mom reported that she overheard a discussion among people trying to figure out if Dobbs was truly black.
Personally, I wonder if he has some Asian ancestry, which makes me wonder…has there ever been an Asian QB in the NFL?
To the Google machine!
It seems Arthur Matsu is the nearest comparison. He was a Hawaiian and was a QB in 1927. That’s crazy. We need more Asian representation in the NFL. Time to organize a march!
Hawaiians are generally considered asian so obviously Tua would represent that . I think Kyler Murray (midget clown as Lifer would say) is also of Asian descent.
I will never recognize Hawaiians as legit Asians. They are too laid back and probably don’t have the math scores…
LOL
“Native Americans” are also of Asian descent.
100%. If Kwerk plays this game is WAY uglier than it was.
Still in the playoff hunt without Cousins.
Not shocking.
I don’t expect much out of Dobbs.
He will have bad games and is likely not the answer.
Fun to watch though. (For now)
Should be able to beat the bears on Monday night.
Then a bye. JJ might play now that the Vikings have to beat the bears to keep pace.
Bears game is bigger since the loss, but I still think 9 wins gets them in the playoffs. Raiders and Bungles should both be wins. Just have to beat FTP again or the lions once.
Agree that Dobbs may not be a long term answer, but I would still prefer him at a bargain price vs Cousins at any over-inflated cost.
Dobbs is more fun to watch than Kirk, but if the fumbles do not stop, I will be pounding the desk for Hall or Mullens even.
Solid plan. However, if they win enough to make the playoffs, they will have trouble reaching up for a quality QB int he draft.
they should be able to find a QB in the late second round that is better than Mullens. Have to keep trying to draft a QB until you find one that works.
I wouldn’t just assume the Raiders game is a win, on the road, they’ll be coming out of their bye, they’re playing a lot better since firing McDouchebag.
Same.
I have a feeling from reading some of Kirk’s comments about his current situation, he may be looking at coaching in the future.
I agree, JJ will now have to play against the Bears on Monday night. Let’s see what Dobbs can do with JJ in the line up.
I don’t have high hopes for Dobbs, overall.
Same description of Keenum in 2017
Same description for Kirk over his entire career, except for the “fun to watch” part.
I’m not sure I’ve ever heard anyone describe Kirk as fun to watch
Correct.
Which is why I wrote, “except for the fun to watch” part.
sorry, I don’t see that
That damn prevent defense in the 4th qtr….
However, turnovers and poor blocking were the main culprits.
Dobbs came back to normalcy, but, he still shows flashes of excellence.
Agree on Dobbs. He made several bad throws that could have been interceptions.
The fumbles have to stop.
That said, he made a few great plays that most QBs cannot make.
Defense needed to bail them out one more time and could not.
On to the Bears, fresh off the collapse yesterday, I think this is another winnable but tough game.
People still ragging on the defense… This game had almost nothing to do with defense, who held off short fields all game. They were a bright spot minus a few individual ineptitudes, quite frankly.
Yeah, it was pretty much just Blackmon that sucked on defense.
Shit
hehe. Pretty much how I felt watching the end of that game. some good, some bad, a few terrible plays and the game is over.
Accurate
Not much else to say. They once again lost a very winnable game.
Yep, add to TB and LAC at minimum.
I really hate the Broncos HC and QB.
Wilson has owned this team, and that last drive just looked exactly like a typical Vikings collapse.
Team is somehow still in a good position to earn a wildcard after the 0-3 start, and then shit the bed in January and let us down yet again.
9 wins should make the playoffs. I still prefer Dobbs over Cousins. Even with the stupid play call on the first drive that used him as a RB and of course he fumbled. His fumbles are one reason why he has been a backup qb. Stop designing running plays for him.
Lather, Rinse, Repeat
If you expect them to shit the bed are they really letting you down?
No, not anymore, after the Nelson drop I was like, hey this sucks but they’ll be back next year, but it wasn’t until 98 and after Anderson missed I was like, this is horrible and I don’t want to watch football anymore, then 41 donut happened and I was like, yeah that sucked but they would get smoked by Baltimore anyway, then they mostly sucked until ’09 which was fun but I figured Chili would fuck it up, turns out it was AD fumbling 5 times and Favre throwing a stupid pick, then in ’17 I assumed the NFCCG would end in epic choke job, but luckily the team just shit their pants the whole game instead. I won’t be let down by the Vikings because they simply do not inspire hope for anything other than pants shitting or epic choke jobs in the playoffs when they do manage to make it.
Ben is smarter than I am.
I still somehow think the outcome could maybe be different.
Some day cereal will be allowed at TCO. Probably not in my lifetime, but some day.
Why are they so anti breakfast?
Because any time a Viking gets close to a bowl, they choke.
OMG…..LOL!
