Hey, sorry I neglected to post a thread yesterday, kiddo is out of school so we were all in weekend mode and I didn’t even think about it until late in the day. Some good games over the weekend, I loved seeing Jayden Daniels surprising America. I especially enjoyed seeing the Lions crap the bed and watch those fans glumly heading out of the stadium. I normally don’t enjoy such things, but a large percentage of their fanbase become insufferable as soon as the team has even a small amount of success. I can’t even imagine what they’d be like if the team won it all, and I’m glad I don’t have to find out. I only hit on 50% of my picks over the weeekend, as I did choose the Lions, and the Ravens to win. My son was smarter than me, he picked the Bills because they were at home. Duh.

The Bears are hiring Lions OC Ben Johnson as their new head coach, per CBS Sports. He had a great offense in Detroit with a good QB, great playmakers at WR, RB, and TE, and a solid O-line. He’ll have a challenge in Chicago with their anemic roster. The Lions are likely losing both of their coordinators, as DC Aaron Glenn looks to be heading to the Jets, according to the Jets Wire.

Update on the Jackson high school athlete that broke his ankle; he should be back playing basketball soon. He had the entire Gophers offensive coaches visit his house a week after Christmas. I doubt he would even consider U of M though.

Went fishing on Sunday, may have been the coldest day I have ever fished.
I ran Sunday morning. I think that was the coldest I ever ran. It was -12 when I went out. I didn’t feel too cold, just mostly annoyed that it was -12.
Once I got back in the house and sat down, I had difficulty warning up, though.
I don’t think my feet warmed up until Monday morning.
I finally went and stood in the shower to thaw out. I went outside again for church, but after that, I parked under blankets the rest of the day, and it was glorious.
I remember running in Germany, when I had to shortcut the run back over a frozen lake. Once I got home I jumped into a hot showed and finished undressing there.
Important stuff was freezing.
That happened to me, too. I now wear an extra pair of heavy cotton boxers over my standard groinal attire when the temperature dips below freezing.

Regarding the comments here about Cousins and his future, I think he may retire. He had a good run, and played at a high level as a starter from 2015 to 2023. I didn’t watch him this past season, other than the Bucs game I attended, where he looked very good. Raheem Morris is a losing head coach, and I don’t see that changing. The OC forced Cousins to play in a scheme that not only doesn’t highlight his skillset, it actually minimizes it. Frankly the GM and the Falcons organization are a mess. Thus, he may just decide to call it a day and move on.
How much $$ will he forfeit if he retires?

KOC would have kept him at the right price and circumstances but KC went to (what he thought) was greener pastures, as is his right.

I would be shocked if Kirk retires. He can sit on the bench and collect his huge payday.

Give up on MLB. It’s dead. Big market teams thrive while the smaller market teams can’t keep up with the big money being tossed around. Twins will never be able to compete, and they’re OK with that due to revenue sharing.

i have had a very eventful last few days. Wednesday took the kids to great wolf lodge, had a blast, overnight, came back to work thursday late. Friday took my daughter skiing for the first time, had a blast, she was cautious and tentative but did really well.
i was supposed to fly out to texas on sunday morning for a work conference, but i got violently ill (stomach, probably food poisoning), just now getting to work, knocked me out 2 full days. so just getting things caught up now.
was able to watch the full inaugaration due to not going to work yesterday. Trump kicked butt. highlight of the inaugaration was him signing executive orders in a packed arena then throwing the pens to the crowd. This is going to be a fun 4 years. well. 2 years for sure

No, the conference i was going to ends tonight, so i would have only been able to make less than half of it. I was able to get refunds on everything, including flight and hotel so there’s always next year (something vikings fans are very accustomed to saying haha)

My Papa was in his mid 70s when he finally shot his age (a golf thing evidently). So you are getting closer.
He considered it a highlight of his life.
It is a big thing. I actually think I might be able to do it, because I am hitting the ball straighter than I ever have, and I can shoot close to par golf. I still play from the whites (Men’s tees) vice the Senior tees. I drive the ball about 200 yards on average, but every once in awhile I can hit it 225 to 230. If I played the senior tees, which shorten the course significantly, I might could do it.
He played at the local municipal course for the most part, so he knew it well, I assume that helped.
I enjoyed taking my mom, The Teacher and some kidlets there for brunch, pretty niece place.

Regarding Trump’s pardoning of the J6 folks, Nancy Pelosi put out a statement expressing her anger on this, stating “The President’s actions are an outrageous insult to our justice system”. Actually, the Democrats legal pursuit of Trump have been an outrageous insult to our justice system for a decade now. Then of course, Biden pardoned his entire corrupt family, or at least the members who were involved in their lucrative and widespread influence-peddling operation. He also preemptively pardoned a bunch of folks to prevent Trump from properly and appropriately prosecuting them.
That was an insult to the rule of law, and an insult to the intelligence (and will) of the American people.
Does anyone care about what Pelosi says anymore? She’s proven to be one of the most corrupt.

They should do a five-year look back, and prosecute anyone who engaged in insider trading. Simple.

Well, I think the uproar comes from the fact that he let them ALL off the hook. I agree that some of the folks probably didn’t deserve the sentences they got, but what about the thugs that beat the shit out of capital police officers. These cases should have been looked at first instead of a blanket pardon. Not a good look.
There were some reports I read that said the “thugs” were plants, acting out and inciting violence. Whether that is true or not, I don’t think Trump will be including them in the pardons. He was concerned about people charged with trespassing, being held in jails, and prosecuted by the Federal Government. A huge overreach, and injustice, the type of political behavior you see in a Banana Republic.
To the contrary, this a good look for Trump, righting a huge wrong.

Ben Johnson going to the Bears will make winning the North a little easier for a couple of years. I think he is the brains behind the operation in Detroit and it will take a couple of years to get the Bears where they need to be to win.
The Bears offensive line is worse than ours, as hard as that is to believe. It will take a couple of years to get the players you want and time for the m to gel as a group.
It will be interesting to see how Detroit does with a different OC.
