The owner’s are having their annual meeting, and they’ve decided to allow NFL players to play on the Olympic flag football team once that sport makes its Olympic debut in 2028. They’ll also be voting on banning the ‘tush push’, tweaking the onside kick, and changing the playoff format. There isn’t much else out there, Aaron Rodgers is still milking all the attention he can get out of his decision on if/where to play in 2025. I, for one, do not care, and I’m guessing most of you don’t, either.

One of Justin Jefferson’s dreams is to win an Olympic gold medal, per ESPN. He has a good shot of making that dream come true in 3 years or so.

91 yo father really failing trying to keep him at home with PCA’s ($40/hr) and his kids helping out. Had a Zoom meeting last night with my 6 sisters and 1 brother. What a shit show of personalities. My sisters can be brutal to one another. Especially “the foremost authority”. Brother had a hockey game (old man’s league) so he left meeting early.
Be flying back to Minny once every 4-6 wks to spend a long weekend with him. But first I leave for Canada a week from tomorrow for 10 days of beer and fishing. I wonder if they are gonna be nasty at the border due to Trump’s shenanigans?

Been to Ontario about 30 times. We’d go around June 7. Inlets usually very good before the go deep. My all time favorite crank is a #11 floating rapala, split shot about 2-3 feet up. Gold colored. Cover water.

NBA sucks to watch. You all have heard me say it before.
Essentially three possessions in a row last night in the Wolves game:
This is all in the midst of three-point-shot fest and easy lanes to the basket on both sides of the ball. The only offensive play in the NBA now is a pick and hope for a look at a three-pointer. If not, pass it and repeat.
Meanwhile in hockey, checks are thrown left and right, players lose teeth, and play goes on.
The NBA, like the NFL, like MLB, the stars get the calls.
It’s the constant play stoppages, flopping, and whining that makes the game all the more insufferable. Was more tolerable when the game itself was more entertaining to watch.
Not to delve too deeply into politics, but did any NBA championship teams visit the WH during 45’s term?

Yes, the traveling not getting called is ironic. They call fouls like crazy, yet players can take a few extra steps every time.

The SA President said that there is no attacks on White Farmers and then DJT showed a video of their parliament calling for the killing of the farmers and taking their land, of stadiums of people chanting for the same, of rows of graves of those farmers. He even gave the SA President a couple dozen press reports of the attacks.
My favorite part was when he called the ABC reporter an Idiot for trying to change the subject as soon as the video of the attacks ended.
He does have a way with these conferences. Don’t believe any President I can recall has done them better. He is a ‘master’ of the show and just eats up stupid press questions. And you would think hese woke reporters would learn but they don’t and just get destroyed.

That also isnt part of the game. Just watch the MMA if you want to watch people fight. Sliding around on the ice to maybe score a goal or two in 2 hrs isnt entertaining, at least not on TV. Literally nothing of value is happening.

Folingo getting rocked. Read a few years back that fighting in the NHL actually reduced injuries as compared to leagues with no fighting. The fights act as a pressure release valve and decrease subsequent cheap shots. That was the author’s theory anyway. When I played it was a 9 period suspension for fighting. Had a few scrums in pick up games at the local rink.
3 full games. Holy hell. One thing for sure is if you’re on the ice when a scrum breaks out you want to find the guy least likely to break your jaw and start dancing with him. Leave the KO’s to the big guys.
There was one guy in our league I avoided like the plague. He was a tough mother. He was part of the reason I returned to the net. When I caught his slap shot in my glove it felt like holding a hot potato. If I recall correctly he never scored on me…maybe the only one.

You lie there with your mouth wide open, trying to keep your tongue out of the way of the hygienist but suddenly your tongue seems three sizes too large, saliva building up in the back of your oropharynx and you’re trying not to gag, then they spray a bunch of water on the part of your mouth they cleaned and you’re trying not to swallow flecks of tartar, at which point they ask you a question about how work is going? You can’t watch your team do dumb stuff like toss up a million 3’s and not making them, without changing strategy. Just like losing that game earlier this year (a month or two ago) where they were up like 30 points in the 3rd or beyond (Milwaukee?). That’s a coaching issue (Finch is not good IMO). Won’t win the championship with stuff like that. It’s fun to see them win, but like with the Vikings last year, you just know someone (or several people) are going to crap the bed. I’ll be delighted if they do win, but it’s not likely IMO.

The doom reasons were twofold – one, I didn’t think the NBA and refs would allow a victory. They tried to help the Lakers and keep them in the series, most people here admitted that. In that regard, I was correct that the games would be tilted.
Second, I thought that as has been the case for the last 35 years or whatever, there would continue to be a drought in championship victories due to poor play by one or more people, or incompetent coaching. I thought that would happen sooner than later (series 1 versus 3), so in that regard, I was wrong. And they still do have 6 games left to prove me more wrong.
Again, I was admittedly wrong that they wouldn’t win the Lakers series. But until proven wrong about not winning a championship, I have no reason to be confident in the team.
Also, living off the 3-pointer and losing by 25+ points in a playoff game isn’t a good reason to doom? Okay then…
Don’t watch the NBA all that much, but seems like they all sort of live and die with the 3 pointers.

This always gets into existential thoughts for me. There is a rule of malignancy, which states that a real a@@ hole never gets cancer, never dies in a multiple car pile up of his doing, etc while nice guys have the widely metastatic disease. I feel bad about mocking JV with the seen, saw thing yesterday. It may have been misconstrued as mean spirited, but was not intended to be so. Therefore, I open myself to mocking and ridicule. I struggle with affect, effect. There are times that I look it up and still can’t decide if I should use affect or effect. More than once, I have gone back and completely changed a sentence so I do not need to use affect or effect. Commence with the mocking. I probably won’t be around much to defend myself, so that will make it even better.

Plus the constant ‘palming the ball’ and ‘carryovers’ drive me crazy.
They are amazing athletes and do make some incredible plays though. Got to give them their due.

I used to coach basketball.
Hate to say it, but watched the Linx vs Paige Bueckers game the other night, they get away with extra steps sometimes but overall it is more like basketball the way it should be…
