So, Jonathan Taylor wants out of Indy. The Colts allegedly expect a first-round pick in return for the 24-year old running back. In 3 seasons, Taylor has rushed for 3,841 yards (even though he missed 7 games last year) at a click of 5.1 yards per attempt. With running backs currently carrying as much value as a can of Spam, it’ll be interesting to see what the Colts get for Taylor.

Minnesota Vikings News:

The Vikings signed XFL standout QB Jordan Ta’amu, according to the Duluth News.

T.J. Hockenson stated that he WOULD be ready for the week one opener, according to the Star-Tribune.

Over at Vikings.com, they look at Vikings position battles as they head into the final stretch of the preseason, and U.S. Bank Stadium sits atop the Athletic’s list of best NFL stadiums.

The Colts have granted Jonathan Taylor permission to seek a trade, according to NFL.com. The Colts reportedly want a first round pick in return for Taylor. Hey, haven’t they heard about the running back recession we got goin’ on?

Update: Executives don’t believe Jonathan Taylor will net the #Colts a 1st round pick/package that is worth that much, via @AlbertBreer

Breer asked multiple execs about how much Taylor is worth in a trade with the new contract involved:

AFC GM: 2nd round pick
AFC exec: 3rd and 5th
NFC exec: ‘Package in the value of 2nd or 3rd’
2nd AFC exec: 3rd or 4th
2nd NFC exec: 2nd or 3rd, ‘Less than the McCaffrey trade’
3rd NFC exec: ‘Maybe a day 2 pick’
3rd AFC exec: 3rd round pick
4th AFC exec: 2nd round pick
4th NFC exec: ”Possibly a day 2 pick’
5th NFC exec: A 4th that could turn into a 3rd under play-time conidiations.

The story by Breer is here:

The issue is the contract. He’s going to want $10MM a year. He’ll pitch a fit if he gets franchised.

What in the world are the Browns up to? They just restructured the contract of TE David Njoku, creating $2.736M in 2023 cap space. Cleveland now has close to $37M in cap space.

There are “some guys” out there that could help them sustain a run to a title. They’re not as far off as people think. I think Christian Wilkins is a game changer and might be had for the right trade package. Chris Jones is still not reporting to KC and is a game changer. Browns don’t have any 1st rd picks to offer after the Watson trade so maybe they’re just shoring up the future books knowing the massive $63.9 mill cap hit Watson’s contract is going to bring each year in 24,25,26. Yikes.

Justin Jefferson averages 9.52 targets per game for his career. He averages 6.48 receptions per game. Think about that. A RB will average 15 or more touches a game. JJ will make fewer than 7 plays a game.

Not knocking JJ, but that’s really not a lot of plays for the kind of money he’s about to make.

BTW Cousins averages 34 pass attempts per game for his career.

Interesting. But he also draws a lot of attention from defenses that makes plays going elsewhere easier.
What’s the right amount of money for this, I have no idea.

Me either, but the Vikings averaged 65 plays a game last year. JJ was targeted on 14.6% of our plays. That means 85.4% of the time, JJ is not getting the ball thrown to him.

No idea what league averages are for WR’s.

It matters more what JJ does with his 6.48 receptions compared to what the given RB does with his 15-20 touches.

Let’s examine JJ’s last 3 seasons and compare his stats to a pretty darn good RB.

……..Season…….Touches/Catches/game……Yards…..TDs

JJ…..2020………..5.5……………………………….1409…….7
DC….2020………..22………………………………..1557……16

JJ…..2021………..6.3……………………………….1616……10
DC….2021………..19………………………………..1159…….6

JJ…..2022…………7.5……………………………….1809…….8
DC….2022………..15…………………………………1175…….8

Who really cares about yards, anyway – at the end of the game they don’t crown the winning team based on yards gained. Dalvin slowing down? Yes, but last season only 5 RBs had more yards than he did, so he’s still relevant.

With the exception of his rookie year, JJ exceeded or met Dalvin’s TD and yardage production with fewer than half of the touches. Look at 2021 – JJ scored 4 more TDs but had 1/3 the touches.

Why is JJ not worth absurd money?

I don’t think we’ve ever had the discussion on what golf balls people prefer here.

I’m usually a chrome soft x-LS (low spin) in the silver box, triple track if they have them.

Of course Pro-V1 are by far the best quality balls, I’ve done the research, seen their facilities, 1 out of every 11 million made is imperfect. That’s the gold standard.

Do you like high compression (hard) flies farther, spins less, less greenside feel?
Low compression, more spin and greenside feel, compresses off irons more?

2 layer (typically harder balls)
3 layer (softer but extra layer adds spin reduction)
5 layer (an abomination, it’s not a pastry from the Middle East, it’s a golf ball FCS)

Today I played a Bridgestone Tour-BX for about 13 holes straight, really liked it kept it the whole way through. Great off the tee, ok around the greens not quite as soft as a Chrome Soft LS but close enough. I ordered a 3 dz box to try them out further.

I don’t create much spin on the ball, but I hit it high with my irons. Sort of control my “run out” with trajectory, rather than spin.

The V1-X is also my ball of choice with the pro v1 line. Less spin than a pro v1 regular. Pro v1 has 388 dimples, Pro V1x has 348 different sized dimples to reduce spin. Great ball, maybe the best and probably is.

Let me guess….Kirkland is doing the testing? Funny they pick far and away the best ball on the market and say theirs tests similarly. Why not pick the best 2nd tier ball?? Pretty simple, pick the best most expensive mainstream ball and say yours test similar. I’ve played them and they feel nothing like a pro v1 to me, much harder and not nearly as soft and responsive around the greens. Not terrible balls but the pro v1 claims are marketing strategy to people that don’t want to pay $55 a dozen for premium balls.

Did something different today – watched the Little League World Series this afternoon. Some really good baseball. Tennessee beat Nevada 2-1. Very well played game
One thing struck me a little different – the kids are about a foot shorter than Major Leaguers but the strike zone is about a foot taller.
Good watch if your interested.

I don’t think Cousins has ever done this in his career, but if he completes 438 passes this year, he’ll surpass Fran Tarkenton at 18th all time in pass completions. Cousins currently resides at #25 all time, one completion behind Alex Smith. Cousins will likely leap to #19 all time with an average year.

Lifer

It’s doable this year. His top mark in a season is 425 which he did twice, 2018 first year in MN and last year. With the way this offense is set up he could potentially come close. If the running game ends up being ineffective then I see a lot of pass to set up the run but hopefully the running game is good enough to run to set up his passing which makes this offense much more deadly.

No longer New Vikings Fan
Reply to  Lifer

I think it’s doable, but Cousins would have to throw the ball at least 645 times with a 68% completion percentage to do it.

Given our IOL blocking and the defense(?), don’t think it would be a bad thing for his to successfully run the ball more. Don’t kill me – I’m not saying Zimmer ball.
May have a playoff game in Philly in January and you can draw some cold, nasty weather. Being able to run the ball is a real plus under the conditions.

Cousins has played a lot of games in Philly late in the season in his career. He clinched the NFC East title in Philly in 2015 on December 26th. Cousins completed over 67% of his passes for 365 yards and 4 TD’s with a 120.3 passer rating, and the Redskins won 38-24. Cousins is from Michigan and now lives in Minnesota. He can play in cold, wet weather.

My job was to make sure people only got 1 thing singed. But I tried giving him shit that all these little kids are out here in the rain playing football but all these grown ass men they’d cancel practice and go hide. He put me in my place and said, yeah and if the coach did continue practice and the QB got injured on shitty grass/turf due to the weather costing the owner millions that coach would be fired lol.

Depends. Some are basically painless but it would be pretty obvious. When I had one it was a smaller hole/tear I guess so any lifting felt like I was getting kicked in the gut and made me want to throw up. Mine was between belt and groin, almost right in the hip joint area.

The doctor I had, for whatever it’s worth, said mine hurt more than some because it was smaller and any tensioning of the abdominal muscles was forcing fat chunks through the tear. A bigger tear doesn’t have the tension and restriction but can lead to pretty bad outcomes with the intestines.

I’ve had five and three different operations. At first you get a burning in the inguinal canal area – not the testicle are, although pain may shoot down there. You also will get a bulge to varying degrees that may get larger with time.
Lifting in a way to creates abdominal pressure will usually bring on pain. May not always though.

Well it went smoothly all things considered but not completely painless. The contractor had borrowed my 25 gallon compressor so I was using a smaller 5 gallon pancake style. I didn’t want to get rust stains on my pristine driveway so ran a 25 foot hose to the gravel. Ran the compressor empty holding the air stream next to the hose end and no prime, I kinked the hose and since it was taking too long for the compressor to refill went ahead and took a suck, got an almost instantaneous mouthful of water tasting like washing soda (the electrolyte) and rust. Cough cough spit spit my wife ran the fresh water hose and I flushed out my mouth. Pail emptied. We dragged the pail over to the gravel and dumped the hydrant out, I stood it up and sprayed all the sludge off and it looked pretty darn pristine. The cathode-anode relationship is pretty line of sight and it looks like one of the iron rods failed to work for some reason so I just needed to wire brush one quadrant of the hydrant. On to painting this weekend.

Zero mess in the shop or on the driveway.

Oh I did the hauling and spraying in my tighty whiteys much to my wife’s chagrin but I knew I was going to get covered with flecks of rust and paint. Fortunately the neighbors would have to be using good binoculars to see me.

Calvin Johnson had one game with 1492 yards
Torry Holt did not have any other season over 1400 yards
Brown had two possible years, 1499 and 1533 yards
Jones would likely have had at least one with 1593 yards, 2 seasons over 1400
Harrison with 1524 and 1413 yards

So potentially 3-4, but what JJ has done in 3 years stands apart.

What sets JJ apart are two things. First he wants the ball and isn’t bothered by contested space. He will fight for the ball and take big hits in the process of catching it. Second is his drive to finish. He wants to get as many yards as possible on every catch, and score if he can. He pushes the limit on every play.

That said, the Bucs defense was not their main issue a season ago. They have two outstanding cornerbacks, a Pro Bowl-caliber safety, and one of the best linebackers in the NFL. Vita Vea, Greg Gaines, and Shaquil Barrett are a very strong defensive front.

They also have young players like YaYa Diaby and Logan Hall, who could play a significant role for them as well.

They like to stuff the run and pressure the passer up the middle.

I know you don’t have a medical background, but WebMD fills in in a pinch. Ear infections can last several weeks to months. Many are caused by seasonal allergies. A great deal of your balance comes from the inner ear – infections can mess with make you feel like a sailor on dry land.

I actually have 30 yrs of healthcare experience, was an RRT back in the day. Sure you can have inner ear issues that linger but I’m not buying it with this situation. Just so happens he wants a new deal at the same time…convenient. Of course the medical staff knows they can milk an inner ear issue, just like you can with a back issue, but they are required to fine a player not participating in practice without a medical reason.

So Watson lied about it in Houston now Hock is doing the same thing. It’s shady but if the teams are going to condone it then if I was a player that was fined I would file a discrimination suit.

Don’t you think it would be hard to stay in character as a DS or DI? I would crack in an instant.

Not that it is anywhere near an equivalence, but I was reminiscing with a buddy about our training and he mentioned standing at a workstation noodling a case with the attending rad. My buddy had a concern about a finding and the attending wasn’t seeing it…he pointed to the finding and touched the screen of the monitor with the (capped) end of his pen.

Now on occasion I have people put their finger on my monitors and that annoys me as I am OCD so I have to clean the monitor or I will see that fingerprint all day. I ask those people to please not touch the screen with their finger, use a blunt object or just let me highlight it with the electronic tools I have.

In this case, the attending just stopped and froze for literally ten seconds. Weird. Then he slowly said, “I…cannot…believe…you…just…poked…a…$30000 monitor…with…a…pen.”
My buddy apologized, said I won’t do that again.
“I…cannot…believe…you…just…”
Five minutes later, “I…cannot…believe…”

Talk about odd personality.

I often wonder what little quirks my technologists discuss about me…but it ain’t freaking out cuz someone touched a screen with the end of a pen.

So the Redskins ended Baltimore’s record pre-season game win streak last night. They were celebrating like they won the Super Bowl and flashing “L” signs with their fingers to the Ravens bench after the game winning field goal sailed through the uprights.

For me, that was little boorish and overstated. The Ravens sat their top two quarterbacks — Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley — and played their other second- and third-string players for the entire game. The Commanders went with their starting quarterback and their first-team offense for the whole first half. I think they played their starting defense the whole first half as well. In the end, they needed a pass interference call on 4th and 11 to sustain their game winning drive too. So in the end, I think they put way too much emphasis on beating Baltimore in a pre-season game, and then over celebrated it. Might slow your roll there Redskins. You have a pretty good team, but wait to you win some games in the real season before you start acting out. Even then, maybe show some class.

Just my opinion…

Loved Camden and the Inner Harbor. I lived in Glen Burnie for a few years

After an Orioles’ game we’d hit the Cheesecake Factory. There used to be a comedy club near there, can’t remember the name. Saw Jeff Dunham there once. Another trip there my parents flew out to visit us, we got in line early and got front row seats – wife hit the bathroom just before the opener – she came back to the table red as a beet. “I accidentally walked into the men’s room.” Opener came on, said “I was in the 3rd stall, writing down my final material for the show and I hear someone come in, a very feminine giggle, and the door slammed…….WHERE ARE YOU HONEY??” I caught his eye and pointed at her sitting beside me. “NO F’N WAY – the FRONT ROW? I can’t BE that lucky!” He went off on her for about 10 minutes, crowd roaring. Luckily she took it well.

When I was in college at Towson I bartended at The Black Eyed Pea, we catered the O’s home games. Random guy would show up to pick up the food, he’d hand out a hat or 2, a t-shirt. One time a waiter was given a broken bat.

The Comedy Factory is down there on Light St, my wife and I have been there many times. We’ve never been to the Black Eyed Pea though. We had a lot of fun at games and in a few bars before and after.

I left in 2000. Not even sure the Pea exists anymore.

I also worked at Kaufmann’s Tavern near Gambrills for a stint. Fun place.

I know right where Kaufmann’s is, but never stopped in.

I don’t see them keeping Hall. I think that’s a waste of a spot given the right spots at safety, CB, and WR.

Hall can make PS. Done nothing in preseason to flash and get snatched by another team

Skoldiers hates Hall, but he is right…I think he is a PS candidate.

Hall sucks and likely clears waivers, PS for sure.

The third RB isn’t currently on the team, Dyke isn’t going to make the roster no matter what happens with wang, who also will be cut. Reagor will be on the roster as well over powell or Jackson. Otomewo probably makes the roster over Bullard. Interesting that Reeder is cut considering what a total stud you said he is, kinda sad if he can’t beat out Troy Dye.

Big trading week before roster cutdowns begin.

Does anyone see KAM making a move? What position or player?

Mullens is much better, still had zero impact but if Kirk goes down he will. But the overall point is you’re not getting anything but depth guys at this point. I like the young TEs, especially Muse, maybe they could trade Mundt for equally scrub level IOL or something.

Good point…he likes going through the neighborhood trash on garbage day to see what treasures he can find.

Going to head out to the course this morning. Play a round solo which I enjoy as a change of pace and work on pre shot routine.

I need to utilize the foot wedge more often…I did use it once in yesterday’s round when I was playing solo…ball was under a tree but hittable but I would have had all kinds of branches clawing at my back…foot wedge to the rescue!

I prefer to try the really hard shot and then after I miss it take a drop and pretend like it is still shot #2.
