If drunk then ‘self awareness’ wouldn’t be that strong to start with.

We had a couple of soldiers in Germany freeze to death when sleeping off a drunk in their car. No one woke up to restart the car heater.
It can happen, makes the deceased look stupid after the fact.

Father in Law in ND had a rope stretched from the detached garage to the back porch in winter, when I asked why he said for Blizzards.

He said every year they would find people who wondered off and froze to death, they found them under a drift every spring.

Any Blackhawks fans on here that can speak to just what the heck Corey Perry did to get cut by the Hawks? Signed on with the “team of second chances” and I’m not sure how I feel – would be great to shore up the bottom six but don’t want a disruption in the locker room of a team that has 13 W’s in a row right now.

Here’s what I found…
Something related to alcohol.
Got drunk and did some stupid stuff?????
One allegation:

Corey Perry cut by Blackhawks after allegations of him having affair with Bedards mom

The Chicago Blackhawks terminated Perry’s contract in November after the team said it determined through an investigation that Perry engaged in “unacceptable” conduct. In a news conference at the time, Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson was asked if there was any criminal aspect involved in Perry’s dismissal. “This was a workplace matter,” Davidson said.

The specific details of what caused Chicago to cut ties with Perry remain unknown.

Davidson said that while he could not disclose the details of the team’s investigation, the matter did “not involve any players or their families, and anything that suggests otherwise or anyone who suggests otherwise is wildly inaccurate and, frankly, it’s disgusting. This has been a tough situation. I understand you want answers. It was important that we took all the necessary steps before sharing more.”

Davidson added the NHL and NHLPA were notified, but that it was a team incident and a team decision. When asked if the league was looking into the incident or if it was considered a team matter, NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly said via email: “The club has been forthright and transparent with us as to what the relevant circumstances are.”

Perry did not dispute the Blackhawks’ decision to terminate his contract and took accountability for his actions, according to a Chicago team source.

Perry met with NHL commissioner Gary Bettman earlier this month to discuss his recovery from struggles with alcohol and was eligible to return to the league, two sources briefed on the matter previously confirmed. Perry didn’t have to get formal clearance from Bettman and initiated the meeting on his own.

Yeah that’s all I have found. Thank you. Sounds like another Evander Kane situation and he has managed to stay on the straight and narrow in Edmonton. If he helps us win a Stanley Cup I am all for it, basically a low risk signing unless he f’s up the locker room dynamics. Meanwhile social media roils at the disgusting decision of the Oilers to hire him despite the awful thing he did which no one has verbalized.

On a lighter note, my 6 year old granddaughter and I are having some great conversations. Her parents are not sports fans and do not have live tv, they just do streaming services. Her bedtime has been during the football games that last couple nights, so as she was sitting in my lap watching football with me we discussed, “Is this on YouTube?”, “Why do football players have to play in the rain?”, “Can football players wear raincoats?” and the big one, “Can girls play football?”

Yikes. What’s the answer to that one? Fortunately my granddaughters have never shown any interest in playing tackle football. In fact, the senior had the back of her head bounce off the gym floor during a losing effort at varsity BB on Saturday and told me, “I am so over basketball”. Don’t think she would like getting crushed like a grape on the gridiron.

My answer was that girls can play football, just not against these guys because they are big, strong and mean. She seemed to be ok with playing against other girls or guys that are not like that (big, strong and mean). She is a girly-girl, so I doubt her football playing will go beyond watching it with Far Far (me).

They absolutely can. When I was coaching on the rez, I had multiple girls play for me (only 1 ever finished the season). Away games they were under the watch of the cheer coach not me, and they changed with them as well. I had 1 girl who was very openly gay and she changed with the boys. I asked my AD about this and he was like if the boys are fine with it, don’t make a fuss. The boys were fine with it. I remember walking into that locker room one time as I’ve done many times to grab a player to go over something and she was in there getting ready just bra and compression shorts and every thing in me went full alarm GET OUT! DANGER! Haha but I was like, if the boys can handle this with no issue so can I.

Long MT post to follow:

-felt like a long haul trucker over my long weekend. Trips to Billings and back Thursday and Friday and then a trip (in intermittent freezing rain) to Dickinson yesterday.
-for some strange reason although I have encountered plows and lots of blowing and drifted snow over the years driving from Edmonton-Wainwright, Grand Forks-Glendive, Rochester-Glendive, Billings-Glendive, I have never had significant plow problems until Thursday. Usually stay back and the plow pulls off at the next exit or crosses the median within ten minutes or so.
-on this occasion, GDV had about two inches of fresh snow, Miles City (about halfway) six, and BIL (our destination) about two. Wind was coming out of the north, about -2 out. Driving lane was plowed and pretty much clear, passing lane icy and snow covered.
-at the Custer county line and all the way into Miles City (about 40 miles), a plow was working the right hand shoulder (north side of I-94). With the volume of snow he was blading there was a huge snow wave that bounced off the guard rails, hills, trees, etc. The north wind blew that snow right back into the driving lane which was getting very slippy and he was averaging about 25 mph, varying from 5-40 or so.
-I’m hanging back, 4 cars back from the plow, trying to keep a steady 5 second gap between me and the car ahead. Intermittently lose sight of the car ahead and I’m mindful of the many cars and semis behind me, we all have our hazard flashers on.
-inevitably a couple of ding dongs with MT plates decide to pass the plow, the passing lane is terrible but go ahead and risk your life, dingus.
-going through the hills east of Miles there is so much snow blowing back from the plow I can barely see the car in front of me, snow is building up all over my vehicle and the defrost and wipers can’t keep up, I start backing off on the throttle until I lose sight of the vehicle in front. Semi about two seconds behind me.
-some dingus towing a toy hauler with ND plates decides he wants to beat the plow. Now I enter complete whiteout with the snow he is throwing off his trailer.
-out of the whiteout I see brake lights everywhere, the trailer and a SUV behind are stopped dead half in the passing lane and half in the left shoulder, on a bridge. Car in front is braking hard sliding to the right and I put the brake pedal to the floor and watch my speed bleed slowly, think I’m gonna slam into the car sliding in front of me, have nowhere to go except the guard rail and I can hear the chuff of the semi behind me locked on his brakes.
-the Vulva got slowed down enough that as the car in front started to correct and got off his brakes I could dodge into the center line and the truck behind came up to my right but none of us collided.
-like I said, I’ve done many thousands of miles in crappy winter conditions but that is the first time I darn near got collected in a pile up. The inciting factor was that damn plow, I think they are supposed to pull over every so often so as to discourage risk takers.

Non-football post.

We have survived week one of granddaughter-agedon. Actually, she is adapting faster than I am. We are starting to get down a routine and get everything figured out. We had a long video chat with our son and DIL yesterday. Zeph’s first round of treatment was considered an induction failure. At the beginning of the treatment the cancer cells were 90% and at the end they were at 30%, which sounds good, but since they should have been down under 10 to 20%, it was considered a failure. It needs to get under 5% to be consider in remission. The next round of treatment will start this week and will be more aggressive. They are also sending us a kit to see if his sister is a match for a bone marrow transplant. One of the issues with the transplant is that the prep for it could make him sterile. They have some tough decisions ahead of them. Also, we knew that the MPAL was rare, but he is in a even rarer subcategory since he has almost no immune system. That creates some issues with treatment. One tentative decision we made yesterday is that we will probably have the granddaughter for the rest of the school year.

We are in Wisc and they are at JBLM (near Seattle). My son is military so they have moved a bunch so they don’t have a lot of family out there. My DIL’s mom is out there now and will be there until the beginning of Feb. My wife has some family out there, but they are about 4 hours away. They live on base and the military family has been great. When they first found out, the neighbors came over while they were in the hospital and cleaned their house and did their laundry for them until family could get there. When we flew out over Christmas, one of the ladies from their church came to the airport to pick us up. People have been really good about helping them out.

There should be some kind of Man Camp where every guy gets a super messy cabin and full permission to throw away anything they want as they organize it.

Then at night they have a grill out and movie-watching event.

All of that is done by 8 p.m. Then they can do whatever they want before bed.

I now take things I think I can throw away and collect them in a pile in the basement. If she doesn’t noticed I have removed them from their original place after a decent amount of time, I toss them.

Oh, I will get plenty of TV watching and sleep in, as well! That stuff is right behind the cleaning and organizing.

I also broke out my old comic book collection, and I’m reading some of those. It is surprisingly fun. I am reading the first Dark Horse Aliens comic right now. Hollywood should have just did the first two Dark Horse Aliens series on film instead of Alien 3, etc. Would have been way better.

Goose Morning & Marley Monday Skolbros!

Kirko Chainz gets us to the playoffs, but likely a first round exit. Defense was limping out tomato cans near the end, Hunter erased with Wonnum gone to not offer at least a small threat of another pass rusher, blitz couldn’t get home and the familiar ‘shell’ coverage returned and was promptly eaten alive at critical moments.

I do think the offense puts up points – but the lack of a run game would’ve hurt when it mattered most.

I don’t know if it’s possible with the cap but I’d love to see them bring in Christian Wilkins in FA.

In-laws gone, taking today to survey/repair damage – was super happy to find the half-eaten plate of scrambled eggs shoved under the air mattress in my guest room.

Hope everyone has a great week, and has someone to love them the way Goose loves Marley.

If Kirk was healthy, would the Vikes be in the NFC Championship game?

Not a chance. Our defense sucks. QB pressure turns up in the playoffs. Mobile QBs have been dancing all over the place to avoid sacks.

We would have gotten smoked in the first game.

I was merely countering your point about our secondary and second stringers. Detroits secondary is as bad as ours.
And all of. this is in the window of us getting to championship game (with Kirk and I’ll add JJ and Hock).
Our passing offense would light that defense up.They might do the same to us and it m might be a 40-42 game. But they ain’t that much better.

Fair enough on the running game. But i think our passing game is some better than there’s and Kirk is ‘usually’ a little less error prone than Goff. But it’s all pretty close.

Shhh…that doesn’t fit the narrative…the only way you can win is with a mobile QB.

Both Purdy and Goff are Kirk speed, and one of them will be playing in the super bowl.

Stafford was about one PSI away from being concussed, plus getting his arm wrecked. Lions were hitting him hard. They are hitting everyone hard. Campbell has them playing very aggressive in the playoffs.

Off course. And it’s even more important that a QB picks up the defense scheme before hand, resets the play and blocking.
And it’s just as important for a QB not to panick under pressure and still go thru his reads and get the ball to the right receiver.
It’s a multi-facit issue.

Safety Kerby Joseph caused season-ending ACL injuries to Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson and Rams tight end Tyler Higbee with direct hard hits to their knees… Even though the hits were technically legal, opposing players and fans alike were not pleased.

Can Joseph be called a dirty player? Are the Lions just playing and hitting hard, or is there more behind this?

I find it hard to root for them at the moment.

Considering who their head coach played for I am inclined to lean towards them being dirty. Especially when the head coach tries to justify it and say we teach them to do exactly what he did, keep your head up and see what you’re hitting. Even though he very clearly drops his head and aims for the knee.

Ben as usual asks an interesting question. Watching the games this weekend, was thinking about it.
Answer – cope out, not sure.
But watching the Packers Saturday – was thinking we trashed them midseason without JJ. Sure, maybe Packers hadn’t found their stride yet, but after all oour early turnover s, not sure we had either at that point.
Detroit – 4 interceptions and we still damn nesr best them. No way Kirk make all those mistakes. There defense is as bad as ours, and their offense is no better.
So I don’t know it we would have gotten there, but we could have played with any of them – including the Niners.

With Kirk Cousins healthy, would the Viking be in the NFCCG this weekend?

Possibly. Defense and O line are still lacking enough talent for a championship, but anything can happen I guess.

Lions and FTP and even Chicago have much better lines on both sides of the ball imo.

Team will be 6-7 wins next year looking up at better rosters in the division unless Kwesi works some magic.
