Wow, what a beautiful weekend it was! I know we only get 2 days of spring in North Dakota, but it sure is a pretty two days. We got a lot of work done in the yard over the weekend. I spent most of Saturday out at the lake after kiddo’s soccer game, then we had soccer again yesterday (last day of soccer for the year!), then kiddo had 9 or 10 friends over yesterday afternoon to play football in the yard, so we had a yardful of 8 year old boys for a few hours. Man, I grew up in a small town,where we used to get together at friends’ houses all the time when I was a kid. They don’t do that as much in the city, I guess. I’m hoping kiddo and his friends start doing more of it.

Live look in at five with the extra time he has not blogging….
Picked up the PXG golf clubs. They are in like new condition. Looks like they’ve hardly been hit. I will have to take them to the range and hit them a little, but just swinging them in the house (yes we have 10 foot ceilings) they feel great. I looked up the specs on them and they appear to have stronger lofts than my current irons. For instance my current PW is a 50 degree loft. The PW in this set is 45 degrees and the Gap wedge is 50 degrees. Obviously with stronger lofts I will hit each club farther. We’ll see how much farther. I hit a smooth pitching wedge 80 to 85 yards now, but can hit it 90 with a little more ooomph. I hit my 9 iron 100 yards, 8 iron 110, 7 iron 120, 6 iron 130, and 5 iron 140. I don’t swing very hard very often.
Congratulations. I have a set of PXG’s. As you note about lofts, your new PW is your old 9 iron with a half inch longer shaft. Created a real need for gap wedge for me.
Other thing was the 4 iron. Because of the strong loft I really couldn’t hit it high enough to hold a green – to low and hot. Replaced it with a hybrid and moved on.
Overall, great clubs.
I am a somewhat natural high ball hitter. It will be interesting to see what trajectory difference there is with this set. The grooves are immaculate so I will see if I spin the ball better with them as well.
Hitting the lower lofted irons…4, 3 etc requires swing speed to get the ball to compress and launch correctly not just fly low and go the same distance as your 6 iron. That is why most hit hybrids or fairway woods. I do. My 4 iron stuck well is a 200 yard club. 4 out of 10 shots I’ll actually hit pure. My 7 wood is also a 200 yard club. I hit it 8 out of 10 times pure. Hence the easy decision on which one to grab.
Yeah, I always heard that. I’ve never had a lot of clubhead speed so I went to a seven wood 20 years ago and the highest iron in my bag is a 5 iron at present. I have been sort of practicing the release swing I posted here from Darrell Klassen, and I’m starting to feel much more speed at the bottom and for the first time ever hearing a significant swoosh of the club in front of me past where the ball would be. I’ve hit a few balls on the course with this method and smoked several and missed a few. The course I played Sunday was way too tight to “unleash the hounds” so I played my normal swing. I will go to the driving range and work a little on hitting balls that way. Will just start with an 8 iron and see how it goes. Always stay relaxed though and swing in rhythm. It’s what I do.
Alright I’m finally home from the balloon factory let me give my 2 cents. I’ve never hit or fitted for PXG irons only they sell them directly so I can’t comment on their quality. From golfers I speak to daily who have or have had them majority say they like them a lot. Have heard a few say they couldn’t hit them but they likely have shitty swings and need ultra forgiving clubs.
They main selling point to the over 55 crowd is exactly what you stated, new irons today with the quality of the heads which are a tad hotter and more forgiving across the face plus the lofts being basically a full club stronger will turn the clock back 15-20 yrs on distance. So your PW will hit like a 9, 9 like an 8 and so on. I won’t be surprised if you hit your 7 (the fitting club) a full 135-140 now.
Solid investment…you’ll be playing like your 50 yr old self again.
I kinda knew that the newer clubs tended to have stronger lofts so I expected this. My wife is pretty excited since the last time I bought clubs was before we were married. She couldn’t believe it when I told her. Then I told her about the deal and she understood. She was like “that is so you”.
They have a pretty thin top line but some meat down low. If you high launch already you’ll send these up high. What was the shaft flex?
The shafts are True Temper Elevate VSS Tour X flex. Likely too stiff for me.

Oh shit those are tour extra stiff shafts fella. Well….all you can do is try them they’re definitely too stiff and too heavy (122 grams) for your swing speed. You’re probably a regular flex possibly a low end stiff around 85-95 grams max.
With clubs you’re really paying for the heads…shaft are important but not that expensive and can be replaced rather easily. I do re-shafting all the time and I’m very good at it. If yours need reshafted we can get that done will just need to find the right shafts. Graphite reg flex would be the ticket, much lighter (60 grams) and easier to swing.
Yeah my current set are all graphite with a regular flex shaft. Still gonna hit these “as is” and just see what happens. As I said, swinging them in the house they feel great. All I really want to do is hit them in the sweet spot to start and then if I want to change the shafts I can. I actually feel like if you hit a ball in the center of the clubface shaft flex isn’t a huge difference maker. Of course I’ve never invested any time in swinging different shafts either.
Give it a whirl. The master fitter from Callaway told me the swing speed = this flex is a bit overrated and it’s more about feel and what you can control. You’ll likely have a tendency to push these right until you adjust to the stiffnesses and weight. Will require more effort than your graphite so fatigue post 18 could come in to play. Guy at my work hits x stiff and I try them all them time and absolutely stripe them so go in to it confidently they may be just fine.
That’s how I feel. Once I taught myself how to bottom the club out about 2 inches ahead of the ball, I started hitting my irons in the sweet spot pretty consistently (6 or 7 out of 10 I’d say). I’ll just take my normal couple practice swings and feel where that low point is. Then I’ll just swing like I always do and see what happens.
Yup…they’ll be some neurological adjustment time so have some patiences in the process of getting use to them. Big change from what you’re currently playing, body and coordination take some time getting use to them.

They say it’s in the name of safety but it isn’t. What causes CTE isn’t one big shot (typically) it’s the same in boxing. It isn’t getting a couple knock outs. It’s the 10,000 jabs you’ve taken, it’s the all the small to medium hits stacking up. It’s a dangerous game. They need to quit changing the rules that are really in the name of helping offenses score more and start taking better care of their athletes. Don’t get me wrong, there have been some rule changes that are absolutely good for their health but I don’t believe the change came because they give a damn. It came to help their image and then it started just being ways to help the offense score. You can’t hit a QB high or low, you have to fight your way through a 300+ pound elite athlete and at the moment of impact with the QB it better be in the exact right spot and you have to let up with all this going on and not put your weight into the ground. That’s not a safety rule, that’s a money making rule.

Bartended at our little speak easy on Saturday night this past weekend. Room is small, can hold, maybe 35 to 40 people if full. We did well, sold $2000 worth of product but tipping was dog shit, and we split tips between 4 of us so I only made $103. Two weeks before we did about $1800 in sales and I made $230 in tips. Just weird.

I tip over 20% for good service and good service also means if a server is just fucking swamped and is working their ass off clearly and I don’t get great service because of it, they still get a great tip. Not their fault their boss under scheduled. But for shitty/lazy service you don’t just get 20%… sorry not sorry.

Funny, but kind of mean story: my sister and some friends went to a Perkins after a night of drinking. The waitress was rude and not good overall. so when they went to leave they left a $50 tip but hid it under a plate. The next weekend they went back to the same Perkins and got the same waitress. She was friendly and did a great job. This time they left no tip and sat outside and watched her look under every plate trying to find the tip.
My sister was a waitress at the time and always gave great service no matter the situation.

Come forth with humility to apologize this morning.
In a world where opinions oft collide,
Where staunch beliefs doth reside,
I find myself standing apart, alone,
A liberal soul in this conservative zone.
Oft have I expressed my views, unyielding and strong,
In words that may have seemed contrary and wrong,
Forsooth, I confess, I may have caused dismay,
By challenging the thoughts held dear to your way.
Yet, in the spirit of fair discourse, let us unite,
For in diversity of thought, there lies great light,
I value the fervor with which thou dost express,
Thy conservative views, unwavering, no less.
But alas, I may have erred in my passionate speech,
Unintentionally causing offense, I beseech,
For tolerance and understanding are virtues we must share,
To bridge the divide, let’s show each other we care.
So, with this humble apology I extend,
To this blog, where conservative views transcend,
I entreat thee, dear readers, to see,
That in our differences, we may find harmony.
For it is not the color of our political thread,
Nor the battles of ideology we tread,
But the love for our team, the Vikings bold,
That unites us together, as the stories unfold.
Let not our political leanings drive us apart,
But instead, let them inspire a deeper, kinder heart,
In this realm of sports, let us rally as one,
Cheering for the Vikings, till the game is won.
In this grand arena, let diversity be our guide,
May we find solace in the love for this tribe,
And let respect and understanding be our constant plea,

Thy conservative minds, so narrow cast,
In echo chambers, locked away, steadfast.
But I, a liberal lone, stand tall and strong,
With open heart, embracing right and wrong.
So heed this warning, conservatives dear,
Your jests and mockery shall disappear.
For truth and kindness conquer in the end,
And my resolve, unyielding, shall transcend.
I bid thee, conservatives, farewell for now,
But know this wrathful pen shall never bow.
For I, the lone liberal, shall endure,
And in the face of mockery, stay pure.
So let our differences ignite debate,
With respect and dignity, we shall relate.
But mock me not, for in this battle grand,
