My in-laws arrived from Montana last night, so we’ll have company for a few days. I’m not sure what we’re going to do, but I’m sure we’ll find something. I plan to smoke a turkey on Thursday, and I’m thinking of smoking a triple pig fatty on Friday, in memorie of Admiral Big Gun. What do all of you have planned for the weekend? Anything special going on the smoker?
Minnesota Vikings Discussion Topic of the Day
Danielle Hunter is having an astounding year. Should the Vikings look to their veteran edge rusher in the offseason? If so, how long of a contract and at what value?

The Vikings partnered with UnitedHealthcare for Thanksgiving meal distribution, per Vikings.com.

From ESPN, the Colts unexpectedly released All-Pro linebacker Shaquille Leionard.
Thread Guidelines
- Keep politics out. We are adults, news happens, and we can talk about it. What we don’t want is to go down the rabbit holes and turn a productive conversation into name calling and personal attacks.
- Be cool to one another. Like it says above, just be civil. You don’t need to agree with everyone and that’s fine, you also don’t need to make it personal. Attack the argument not the poster.
- Keep the NSFW to a minimum. We don’t need anyone getting in trouble at work for hanging out here.
- All in all, be adults. Treat each other with respect and things will be fine. Mods will take out content they feel is pushing the boundary. If you want to reach out about something feel free to ask. We want to have robust discussions, that’s why we’re here. Just be civil and cool to one another.
Thanksgiving thread is up. I woke up and started making deer jerky with the boys this morning and we are prepping to go to a friends house for the turkey dinner. Happy Turkey Day everybody.
Don;t know ho to add the pictures like everyone else.
Every day is special, but maybe a little more so today.
Happy Thanksgiving to all !!!!
PS. To keep your anxiety levels down, don’t pick a kid up at the airport the night before Thanksgiving at 8:00 pm.
If you are on your computer, open another tab, search for gif or pic or whatever, right click on the pic, copy image address, paste that in to your comment, post comment.
Or you can hit the little black box that is on the bottom row in the comment box, next to the + sign, that will bring up some preprogrammed gifs. The selection is not as great as searching for your own.
Thanks -will try. But, in all honesty I’m pretty challenged with technology stuff.
Thank you though, have a great day!

Turkey is at 140 degrees, the smoke is doing it’s thing.
Should be able to eat right around kickoff of the first game, then nap during the second half when the Lions are up by 28 points.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
Happy Thanksgiving, all!
SKOL!!
I’m not great at GIF’s or anything, so I’ll just say Happy Thanksgiving to all. I have so much to be thankful for, and today I’m going to share that joy with my family.
I hope wherever you are, you have enough to be thankful for that you can do the same.
Thanks NLNVF.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Happy Thanksgiving everybody!
In case I don’t make it on tomorrow, Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
I do believe I have the opportunity, nay, the responsibility, to watch 8 football games between Thursday morning and Monday night…that is 25 hours worth of football!
What are you limiting yourself. That’s four full days plus Monday night.
I get the 8 games though – 3 Thursday, 1 Friday, 3 Sunday, 1 Monday.
I don’t do college – usually.
Makes sense – I don’t watch much college either.
Here we go again. Just in time for the election. Probably should just skip the next election for the good of the people.
It may not be this, but you can book there’s going to be something very similar just in time for the next election. Too bad Vegas doesn’t have a line on this.
Attempted terrorist attack at the Canadian border today too from the sounds of it.

SKOL!
Don’t think less of me, but I did pick up Jayden Reed for my Fantasy team and I am cheering for the Pack tomorrow.
AND I TRADED TY CHANDLER TO GET HIM….
I may boo myself.
LOL
I’m cheering for the pukers so that the lions lose a game and help out the Vikings. Hate to do it, but I’m a selfish Vikings fan.
Yep….thats why I am cheering for them as well.
Are we fighting the Lions for the division or the Packers for a wild card spot though? The Packers are only like a 1.5 games out of a wild card spot I believe. Making sure the Packers have a middle, not high draft pick sounds good though.
We don’t need the packers to lose at this point. Plus we already have the tiebreaker.
I don’t. I get it. The enemy of my enemy is my friend and also my enemy.
Yep Hate the Eagles, except when they play the Cowboys.
Same.
Mt viking do you still have my phone number
No I do not.
Poor Ben. Standing around the parks, waiting in lines with a lot of people is always tough. But, it;s about to start raining here, and that takes things to a whole new level.
Many beers necessary.
Yeah same here… lots of dark clouds.
Best day at magic kingdom for me was when it rained hard for three hours. No lines for the rides.
Except when the water get s about 3 inches deep on the walks and you have to carry the kids around for a few hours.
Head for the hills!!!!!
Live look at Orlando radar shows little to no rain.
If I was tech savy, I’d show you the sky out my window – dark blue to black. And it’s sprinkling now.
Must be some liberal running the radar.
And you Yankees telling us what it’s like down here. Just Kamela down for a look.

Millennials Need $525,000 a Year to Be Happy: Survey (businessinsider.com)
Saw an article yesterday that says millennials believe they need an annual income of $500,000 to be truly happy. I guess there are a lot of unhappy millennials out there!
That same article did say though that there appears to be incremental increased happiness across all age groups the closer your income gets to 500,000. Ater 500,000 it doesn’t matter….So MT, STOP with the overtime – that extra money isn’t going to make you happier.
If I made 500,000 a year I would be happier, I would buy a new car rather than driving the old broken down Subaru.
LOL….
The question becomes do millennials actually want to put in the work required to obtain that $500,000 annual salary?
I’d guess no.
From what I have seen a hard no!
But for the record, I don’t want to put in the amount of work and effort required to make that much money either.
Since I’m 61, I’d do one year, then retire.
Of course they don’t. At the same time, do many people want to put in what it takes to command that type of money.
As I have said, I know I do not. I had opportunities Mid-career to manage a much larger company that would have been a substantial pay increase. But I chose to stay where I was making a decent salary and not having to work 50 to 60 hours a week – which I know makes me crabby and zaps the joy from my life.
I look at doctors, have one in family. They spend most of early life up to 30 something, working like dogs and getting like 35K a year . Every dime they make after that, God bless em, they earned it.
Shh! Don’t ruin the gouger narrative.
Shit I’m a capitalist. We need more people willing to go out and work their asses off and make a million a year, esp. W-2 people. Then they can pay their 40% and the socialists can live better. Someone got’s to pay for all this crap.
smarter than I am. 65 + hours per week all summer, as soon as I became an employee. now I am down to 50-55 hours per week and it feels like I am slacking.
Yuck, I do not like working that many hours…icky icky icky…I classify as an old Gen Xer, I guess I have that work/life balance trait.
Yep.
Which kind of makes the whole survey inaccurate to begin with.
Most people probably wouldn’t be happier.
LOL
If my wife had an annual income of $500,000, I’d be happiest…
But if that happened, wouldn’t you get rebuked for not holding up your end of the bargain?
I would be the greatest stay at home dad the world has ever seen.
Well, you think you would be the greatest.
Would your wife think that?
Absolutely.
Good for you !!
Yeah, having a rich wife can be a blessing or a curse. I have seen instances where the wifey get’s awfully controlling when she has all of the money.
Even for Wrenage.
I think he posts about his wife putting something in his salad that he hates. Would that stop happening or get even worse??
I post that…she puts those awful grape tomatoes in my salad…even though she knows I hate them.
I get rebuked every day for something. The only difference is the rebuker would now be richer!
Then you could be the Trophy Husband.
For that kind of money, gotta look better than that!
BIG, BIG NEWS!!!!
THE SUBARU IS READY!
They tell me the national subaru company is covering 14,000, I am paying 1,000.
Now we shall see if it runs.
I am so excited!
Have you picked up yet? And it actually drives.
No I have not picked it up yet, so the celebration may be a little premature.
It’s a 110 miles away from me so have to find a day to go get it. Maybe Saturday.
At this point, it has a new transmission, a new torque converter, a new valve casing (whatever that is), a freshly tuned up engine, new suspension stuff, and new brake stuff. And tires that have only 10,000 miles on them.
I sure hope it runs for a while. It would be sweet to get another 100,000 out of it.
Kick them tires!
That is indeed my car.
Don’t go speeding around and get arrested.
Great news! I’m happy for you.
thanks!
This is probably the right advice, but everything in it is pretty much new at this point, so not sure if that is the right move.
That thing would be out the door as fast as possible. I would never trust it and next time they might not even work on it. They’ll just say, nah, we remember you. Not touching that thing. Good luck.
Pretty much everything being new isn’t everything and will only take one of the parts that isn’t new still being bad for you to end up on the side of the road again.
Yes, that is true.
It’s Thanksgiving, be positive. As Capt Kirk tells Spock – it’ll work!
That’s my mindset, I am counting on it for another 100,000!
That may even happen on the way home.
Oh, I am sure they won’t touch it again. Even if it breaks down on the way home they won’t want it back in their shop.
Nice!
Yessir, I just hope it makes the 110 trip home.
It’s a Thanksgiving Miracle!
Feels like it! I was all set to plop down 30,000 on a new car, maybe can wait a while now.
I’m working from home, today.
The wife is prepping a cornbread casserole and a green bean casserole for the big family gathering, tomorrow. Smells awesome! Getting hungry…
I’m working from home too. My wife is prepping the stuffing with smoked turkey and a bunch of veggies. Good stuff. My son is coming tomorrow and we will be deep frying a turkey out back, while my wife does all the other stuff. My son is also making his famous sour cream, and garlic mashed potatoes from scratch so it’s going to be fun. He’s also bringing his new girlfriend to “meet the parents”. That ought to be entertaining.
Good for you – working from home again!
I was at MacDill Monday and Tuesday, and put some long hours in there. I just decided to hang around the house today as my wife is doing a lot of work, and I would feel really guilty if I didn’t help. I got up at 5 a.m. this morning and hand washed all the China and put it on the dining room table. She was like “I love you so much”.
Got a gold star today!
Nice! The wife is doing all the cooking this year. I’ll be doing all the cleanup. I offered to smoke a turkey, but she wants to do her famous baked/roasted turkey. Sooo good!
Our kids (and their kids) plus some others are coming over. Should be a good day to watch the FTP lose.
Love it!!!
I heard the best thing to do is keep the fryer in your garage so the wind doesn’t blow it out and to put the turkey in half frozen.

Looks a little like a birthday cake I saw on the news yesterday.
Laughing. I know this has actually happened though, so it’s no joke. That said, my son has done many dozens of fried turkeys over the years so I’m in good hands.
Don’t forget to fill the pot all the way to the top with oil.
Laughing… that’s the plan…
(as far as you know)
Yeah, happens every year. I figured you knew better or I wouldn’t have joked about it.
Took the week off since I have PTO to burn or I lose it. This employee vs contractor thing is taking some getting used to.
Love the cornbread casserole. The green beans can go away.
I was corrected by the wife…it is cornbread dressing (not casserole). She is a true southern girl…Either way, it is very good!
She has the green bean casserole tasting very good, as well.
Between hunting week and holiday week, I don’t know what day it is. I keep thinking it’s Friday, which it kind of is.
Head out to Montana today.
I will stop by and give Lil baby stu stu a hug, grab some grub from gonfishin, then spend the night at Mt vikings
Oh and hit up a pro trump rally with nodakrube
Solid plan all around.
Godspeed
and
USA! USA!USA!
Heading up to see the Grands for Turkey Day today.
Be back Sat Night. Praying for decent traffic.
Don’t do anything I won’t do (not including much with that).
Safe travels Freeze
Go do it and have fun! LOL!
How much does the gouger gouge for overnight stays?
You gonna be in town at all? Light parade?
Tell me more about this light parade.
It’s nice to sneak out of bloomfield every now and again while we are there
You drive through downtown G-dive and look at the streetlights. Probably the coolest thing to do in that town.
Street lights or muzzle blast?
Gooooooose morning!
Lol… diaper-head Goose unpopular with someone…. 😂
Folks here talk a lot about the QBOTF for the Vikings, and basically failing as much as possible this year to garner a high draft pick to get one. I thought maybe a little recent history might help illustrate the holes in a plan like that.
In 2021, five quarterbacks were taken in the first round of the NFL draft, including three in the first three picks. The top prospect was Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence, who went no. 1 to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Next came BYU’s Zach Wilson, who was taken by the Jets at no. 2. Trey Lance, a relatively anonymous quarterback from North Dakota State, went no. 3 to the 49ers. Ohio State’s Justin Fields fell to the Chicago Bears at no. 11, and Alabama’s Mac Jones went to the New England Patriots at no. 15.
All these QB’s were analyzed for about 2 years by NFL scout teams before the draft ever happened. Trevor Lawrence is really showing up now as an upper level QB in his 3rd year. The others are still trying to find their sea legs.
Be careful about trying to fail in order to succeed. The draft is like a box of chocolates…
Your points are well taken.
A question – has there ever been a team in the thick of the playoff race at this point in the season. ever just tanked for next year’s draft position?
Not that I know of, and it certainly wouldn’t sit well with the players. You would lose the locker room and all credibility as an organization if you chose that route in my opinion.
No one has mentioned tanking since the trade deadline came and went and the team made it clear where their stance on that was, not sure why bring it up a month later? Seems moot.
Maybe because he wasn’t here and missed some of the discussion?.
There was even some discussion yesterday along the lines we weren’t really going anywhere deep, so why not play Hall. Not exactly the same, but certainly in the neighborhood.
People who think we should start Hall before Dobbs shows he doesnt have it or the team is eliminated from post season are a little disconnected. Us getting a blow out on Monday would be a good time to throw him in. It would be nice to see him play but you cant until Dobbs shows he cant do it anymore. And if he missed the discussion last month he can go back and read those threads. The discussion is no longer relevant.
Are you kidding me = who in there right mind would go back and read over a 100 threads with anywhere from 400-600 posts.
I certainly am not for playing Hall, at this point, but again you miss the point – on purpose I guess.
Ride with Dobbs unless/until he shows he cannot do it.
If we are down or up by 3 scores in the fourth quarter, I would love to see Hall get some more playing time.
I still think Dobbs/Hall/Rookie is the QB room next season.
I can and will change my mind about that several times during the Monday night game
I could live with Dobbs/Hall/Rookie. I would not be surprised if Kirk is back, although I don’t really see a point in the great scheme of things. Kirk’s window is shut. He’s just a hang-around guy at this stage.
Disagree with Wrenage, Kirk was having a great year…not just a hang-around guy, that being said the cliff can come in a hurry.
I could also live with Dobbs/Hall/Rookie. It’ll be very interesting to watch the Kirk drama play out next spring. It could go several different ways.
Much more debate coming in our future.
I don’t think there will be any drama. I doubt the Vikings offer a contract of any kind to Cousins, and he will simply be a free agent in 2024.
It’ll be interesting to see how much money Kirk will want coming off the injury. There will definitely be a market for him, just look at all the bad QB play in the NFL recently. Will the Vikings make a bid for him? Not sure they can afford him, but I’ll bet that he wants to stay a Viking.
He wants to stay a Viking, but he knows that KAM isn’t going to offer him a contract at all. He will do exactly what he did with the Redskins though. He’ll always say he treasured his time here, and loved his teammates, coaches, and the organization.
He’ll put his future in God’s hands, and move forward with his life.
He’ll get offered a contract, it will just be in line with what a 36 year old QB, coming off a season ending injury, after UFA and the draft would be offered.
MN is still the best situation for Kirk, it will depends on how much/little he wants to take to play football for the Vikings.
Realizing getting into a Cousins discussion is crazy, but is there more to it than you suggest.
“36 coming off season ending injury.”
Ordinary season versus best season of his life?
If it were baseball, similar circumstances, big difference between a 220 hitter and a 300 hitter comng off injury.
This is true. Very interested to see how it works out. I do not believe he will get A-Rodge money though.
Aaron no, but not Jimmy G either.
Agree, he will get more the Jimmy G, or Carr types.
That is not what the rumor mill is saying. KOC, Kirk, and Kweisi are all deeply in love with one another.
KOC’s comments regarding Cousins have never been overtly committed. His comments are like “everyone knows how I feel about Kirk”, not “we really want him back, and we’re going to do everything we can to keep him”. Rinse and repeat with KAM. They’re just doing the politically correct thing here and the media never asks any deeper questions, or challenges them.
Should be as much fun as the off season following the miracle.
LOL
I’ve been discussing QBOTF here and not once mentioned tanking in order to improve draft position. It may take the mortgaging of future picks – but QBOTF can be attained without tanking.
Him and Jrob are back making things up to stir the pot and hold on to Cousins at all costs because….stats.
Do you read much?
I believe at least 1000 times here NLV has said Cousins won’t be here next year.
And I have heaped praise on Dobbs numerous times over the last couple of weeks – like how great he has played and the Vikings are in a great position thinking about QB next year.
Understand you have a narrative. But because others may want to look at it a little more broadly, than your narrative, has little to do with your infererance.
I’m not accusing anyone of stirring the pot – just pointing out we don’t have to tank to acquire QBOTF
First, nothing made up ever in any comment I make. Second, Cousins is done as a Viking as I have said many times. You should maybe read and comprehend a little better before you throw BS commentary around.
I do not want the team to tank. I want the team to keep drafting a QB each and every year, in whatever round they feel the pick is a value, until they find one that works.
Hall could be the guy. Dobbs could stop fumbling and be the guy.
Mobility is needed. Burrow and Herbert are two examples of very accurate pocket passers that have mobility.
I do not really want a running QB, I want a QB that has the ability to run when the need arises.
I think Herbert is way more mobile than Burrow. But what I really like about Herbert is his size – like 6’5″. Little QB’s have trouble seeing over the d line and people are only getting bigger.
Yep, short people have no business playing QB in the NFL. There are a few exceptions….
Perfect.
Been here at Disney world 30 minutes and I’m already ready to leave, think I’ll go look for beer
which park? I live 10 minutes away and will buy you a beer.
And at Disney, be sure to bring your wallet!
Today is magical kingdom and I just learned no beer here
Go to Epcot and you can drink your way around the world. Believe they are having the Food and Wine festival going on which has a lot of inexpensive small dishes from the various countries.
And if you like Pizza, go to Via Napoli there.
Epcot is my favorite park. “Stroller Hell” is never too bad there.
My favorite too. Some of the countries have good food.
Also, your kids will love Animal Kingdom. The Lodge there has a really good buffet at a good price unlike most of the Disney dining places.
I’ve never been – but I learned from a very special episode of Roseanne that there’s beer at Epcot. Made Dan Conner’s day….
For sure. Walk through the gate, take an immediate right into England and there is beer galore. Enjoy a Harp
Canada also has beer. And steak!
Best steaks at Epcot, and in all the parks for that matter.
I have location envy right now. Have not been to Disney since 2004. We went twice a year for a few years, then the kids got to middle school age and were too busy.
It was 21 degrees here this morning
We retired here as wife figured kids (and grandkids) would always want to come here for the parks and the many things to do. Weather is about 72 and sunny right now.
I do miss the Springs and Falls up North but not the driving and shoveling snow.
We spent Vets Day weekend at Universal Studios. I was also ready to leave after 30 minutes. What a mass of humanity and very high prices. I feel for ya, bother.
Are you staying on the grounds? Also, for Beer at Magic Kingdom, you need to go to a sit down restaurant. Tony’s was kind of affordable, also Liberty Tree Tavern. Just buy the kids chicken tenders first, so they will be fine with watching you drink while they just get a dessert or app.
Grin and bear it and at the end of the day, you’ll have 1,000,000 dad points.
Dad points are easily as valuable as Packers stock. Easily!
Over the 32 years my parents/we have had a timeshare in Kissimmee, my wife and I have been to one of the central FL theme parks 35 times, mostly Disney. Last three years we haven’t bothered. Sign of aging I guess.
You did pick a cooler time of year but with the holiday bound to be packed. I feel for you, brother!
I love the Disney parks, but the crowds were terrible 20 years ago.
Whenever I go again, it will be with grandkids and I will need a second mortgage to afford it.
And it’s amped up big time during Holidays. Many times, 3 hour lines for some of the rides.
We went once over Christmas break, and it was stupidly busy.
Paid extra to attend the nighttime thing where they limited the people in the park from 8 pm to midnight. That was worth it.
All the rest of the trips were MEA in October or early May.
Both of those are great times to be there. Much less crowded and not as crazy hot as over the summer.
You picked perfect times – basically when kids are in school.
Going for beer is always the right choice. Unless you are hung over from last night’s festivities, like me today. Had a few with colleagues from our job training, I’m really glad that the official part of the day is over. Have fun at Disney world, though.
The Polynesian resort has one of the better Tiki Bars in the Country actually if you are into Rum and sugar forward drinks.
Unless you are staying at the Polynesian, it’s more than a bit of a task to get to the Polynesian for a sweat drink. Much better options available.
I feel sorry for you.
Have fun !!
Let us know if you run into a tranny at the fairy princess station.
Hunter is having a great year, and this is the first time in a while he is neither hurt nor butthurt about being underpaid.
I expect the offer he gets will depend upon how much money they have to spend on a QB next year and how much JJ gets. I think he will be playing elsewhere next season. This will probably be his last big payday. He should take the best offer, and I think that will be somewhere else.
Agreed, Hunter will most likely play for some other team next season, I don’t see Queasy giving out the kind of contract Hunter will want to sign.
Kind of a shame actually as he is playing really high level football this season.
We’ll see, I’m guessing he would prefer the highest, or at least equal offer to come from Minnesota, Flores is the best thing that’s happened to him in three years
Cooking three Turkey breasts in the smoker for thanksgiving.
Tripple Fatty sounds amazing, I may need to do that this weekend also.
I will for sure cook some non turkey things over the weekend.
What is triple fatty? Are breasts wrapped in bacon?
Usually a triple fatty means Pork sausage or Beef or both, stuffed with cheese or eggs or both, then wrapped in a bacon weave.

The Vikings’ social media tweeted Tuesday “The Vikings have signed DL Sheldon Day from the practice squad to the active roster. WR Trishton Jackson has been waived. OLB Austin Bryant has been signed to the practice squad and WR Dan Chisena has been released from the practice squad.”
With Lowry’s injury, plus Day to the gameday roster, these are Minnesota defensive tackles heading into Week 12:
My dad died in 2017, and I thought…too bad he missed on what they found on Oak Island.
Turns out, he hasn’t missed anything!
Reply fail.
Yup, pretty much.
No clue what any of this means, sorry to hear about your dad though
I had a coworker that used to regale us with the complete episode recap each week, even though nobody else watched the show.
Complete waste of what was supposed to be a 10 minute stand up meeting.
@I miss that@
Good morning and SKOL! Watched Curse of Oak Island last night.
They didn’t find the treasure.
no treasure yet?
This is my shocked face. Yeah, the show drags on after 10 years. Lots of great history is brought up, but in the end they seem to wander all over the island looking for stuff, vice following a strategic plan. I think it’s puroseful, to keep the show going, but it does get old sometimes.
Any bobby dazzlers, or top pocket finds?
I like the show for the history being revealed, but the intros and fake excitement gets old.
They found part of a musket barrel loading rod. They also drilled into a 7 foot long piece of timber that they figure was an upright for a tunnel. They’re still waiting to be cleared by the Government to extend the Garden Shaft and reach down to whatever non-ferrous metal Gary Drayton detected at the end of last years show.
I always laugh when they find a button from an English military uniform from the 1770’s. I am sure they were there for the American Revolution, not to bury the Holy Grail.
They have found items dating back to B.C. periods though, so it’s clear that folks were there well before the revolutionary war. Roman coins and old lead and iron items have been dug up.
I don’t pretend to know what it all means, but when you look at all the tunneling and engineering of booby traps involved, a lot of work was going on a long time ago for something.
Yep, strange goings on for sure. I highly doubt there is any treasure there at this point, but at some point in the distant past there may have been.
The really old stuff is what keeps me coming back, I was just saying they get overly excited about English military artifacts.
