Tonight’s “The Curse of Oak Island” episode will be Season 11, Episode 24, and this show is named Hairy Situation. This episode will be the penultimate of the season.
I started watching the show about four years ago. I’ve learned a lot about history, but the point of the show, seeking long ago buried treasure and historical artifacts, has grown ever more lacking. I doubt the show will satisfy my itch for finding something of real value… but gonna watch anyway. Grin.

Heading to Colorado this summer for Vacation. Went there in 2019. Going to the Oskar Blues taproom is where I learned I could make some decent BBQ. Made my first brisket that summer and it was awesome! Went to Oskar Blues and had theirs, it was OK, mine was way better lol.

Cousins, during his introductory press conference with Atlanta on Wednesday the 13th of April, implied he had contact with members of the Falcons organization the day prior (12th of April) — before free agency “officially” began. That said, the day he says he spoke with the trainer and the PR person, was AFTER the 11th when it was announced he was signing with the Falcons.
So is it tampering, to talk to members after a player has agreed to terms with a team? I’m sure Cousins didn’t think it was, and it doesn’t actually pass the logic test.
The fact they are waiting to this close to the draft screams of purposeful timing for draft drama.
I’m still holding out hope that somehow the Falcons and Vikes will come to an “agreement” and swap picks prior to the draft to avoid NFL induced punishment.
Of course, drafting 8 vs 11 still requires the right pick be made.
I am expecting some drama Thursday evening.

You continue to get disoriented when it comes to Kirk-related “facts”.
The “legal tampering” period opened on March 11th, NOT free agency. At that point, only Kirk’s agent is allowed to have contact with the Falcons’ organization (doesn’t extend to players…just ownership, front office, coaches and staff to include Falcons’ trainers and PR team).
Kirk was still under contract with the Vikings until March 13th, when his contract expired on the first day of free agency. They announced his new contract with the Falcons on the same day, literally about an hour after the FA window opened.
Any direct contact Kirk had with the Falcons’ organization prior to March 13th violates the NFLs tampering rules. Therefore, they tampered and he admitted they tampered (very stupidly, I might add). The only question at this point is what, if anything, the NFL will do about it.
Commenting before the standard counter of: “This is just not true, he did nothing wrong, this is Schefter drama, it doesn’t pass my logic test etc. etc.” Meanwhile…said logic test…

They didn’t announce it though. The Schefters of the world said they had agreed to a deal. That is usually a leak from the agent. Everybody knows tampering happens. Where the NFL will have an issue is that the player was directly involved and was dumb enough to admit it out loud and on camera potentially giving the league a black eye. It won’t look good if they do nothing. It’s not that it happened, it’s that the quiet part was said out loud.
If the NFL really wanted to crackdown on tampering, they’d start suspending or fining agents.

They didn’t break any rules on Twitter. No team employee is allowed to have direct contact with a player while that player is under contract with another team and discuss facilities, contract, etc. Basically anything beyond how’s your family? How’s the golf game? is potentially tampering. Directly talking contract, facilities, training plan, etc is a blatant violation of the CBA language and goes against specific examples laid out and forbidden in the CBA.
I think the proper term is “agreed in principal”. No player would ever change their mind though so it’s pretty much official.

The Absinthe post got me thinking about booze. I have not had any since returning from the cruise, since I drank a lot.
Not a big gin guy, but a Bahama Sky Juice is an awesome drink while being outside. Coconut water probably helped with the hydration, but those things tasted so good.
That and also Cruises specifically carry “watered down” spirits and or liqueurs and pawn them off as full proof drinks. They aren’t, because they want people to drink A LOT and get drunk slower for maximum profit. There are some good classic full proof tiki drinks that involve gin.
Some resorts really water down the drinks too, like the resort in Mexico where my in laws have a condo timeshare, Sandals does not though, they carry legit stuff like Appleton, at least in Jamaica they did, and they did not water down cocktails, they were standard shot sizes.
I have heard that from several people. Most Sandals and main stream all inclusives do not water things down. No reason to. Huge profit even with drunken vacationers.
I really enjoyed sandals, on a side note, the airport had free open taps of red stripe readily available for self serve right after you exited the plane, which was awesome. Also, the shuttle driver offered to sell me a stick of weed that looked like a cob of corn wrapped in foil for $10. I don’t really like smoking weed, but it seemed to good of deal to pass up so I bought it. Hurricane Gustav showed up a couple days later and ruined a few days so I was kind of glad I did.
I have looked at a Sandals stay a few times.
Airfare is so damned expensive that the cruises so far have saved us a lot of money. We just fly into Orlando or Miami.
And a 7 day cruise is less expensive than 7 days at a Sandals.
I will still book a Sandals someday.

I disagree on the watered down drinks.
They do, however, have a strict pour. That gin drink contains exactly 1.5 oz of booze, so it would take a few to feel anything.
For dinner, I ordered scotch or bourbon on the rocks or neat. And had a few different martinis I ordered at the bar.
I think the bahama mama and pina colada and any froze thing made with house booze is going to be cheaper to make and weak.

You would see condensation in the bottles if they watered down booze, and they are basically printing money with the beverage package ($80-100/day) for drinks that are $14+ ala carte.

If I wanted a strong pina colada, I asked the bartender to make it with dark rum in addition to the Malibu. Still they had the pre mix, but just added a jigger of dark rum.

I got my money’s worth based on the $85 per day charge vs ala carte, but still way more expensive than drinking at a normal bar.
Was it not all inclusive? But yeah pacing yourself with waters is a must. I didnt have to do that in my 20s, for sure have to now. Throw in some caffeine right around supper time too. Smart idea with the extra shot of dark rum. I had my manager order in some Plantation OFTD over proof once I bought a bottle and had him try it ( he loved it) so iv been topping off our Mai tais with it…good lord is it good.
Cruises are mostly not all-inclusive, but if you purchase the beverage package they are. Carnival caps you at 15 drinks per day. Royal Caribbean has no cap.
I have never done an all inclusive resort, but we will try that at some point. I really like being on the water, so I enjoy cruises.

I would enjoy being on the water but being stuck on a giant floating Marriot hotel with a bunch of other smelly people would get to me I think. Id rather stay on land. Maybe rent a boat for a day or two?
The ships are large enough that there are places that are adult only (other people’s kids are annoying) and less crowded.
I also get a balcony room, so if I really want to de-stress, I sit on my private balcony away from the craziness.
But yeah, they can feel a bit crowded on days at sea when the ship is full.
Still my favorite vacation. You unpack once, can see multiple ports/cities without changing rooms. I do not have to drive anywhere or cook anything.
Also, our first cruise was on Disney. Still the best vacation and my adult kids still talk about it. Of course, we hung out with our kids the entire time, so my kids were never unsupervised. Still annoys me how many parents let their kids do whatever.
Some people shouldn’t be allowed to reproduce, thats a common sentiment. But thats good, glad you got that in before Disney went really down hill. My family did our trip back in 03. I enjoyed it, I doubt I would now, iv heard shitty things from friends that have gone with their kids now.
03 was our last trip there. We made it 4 times to FL and did a few cruises as the kids were growing up. Once they hit middle school and were in sports and things, the winter vacations stopped.

Wormwood thujone is the Hallucinogen it’s supposed to have in it, and does in Europe. Basically it’s black licorice flavored liquor, the US versions. At least that’s my understanding. I hate black licorice so I have never tried it.
Edge is mostly correct. The whole hallucinogenic thing is way overblown and bs from US distributors. Its higher proof spirit that yes, essentially has your black licorice flavor. I serve it traditionally in the bar I work in with water and sugar. If you like that flavor you would enjoy it. If not, probably not.
I will probably skip it then. Black licorice is not my cup of tea.
Any other spirit or classic cocktail questions, feel free to throw my way. Its my side hustle but I like to think im slightly more knowledgeable than the average joe.
Easy way to make a good old fashioned at home?
OF are the easiest thing you can make. You can mix it in a pint glass but a actual mixing glass helps. 2oz of your favorite bourbon, half ounce of your sweetner of choice ( I like 100% maple syrup, you can also make your own simple syrup at home, heat up sugar and water on low heat on the stove until combined 2:1 sugar to water, let cool, bottle, put in fridge) and a couple dashes of your favorite bitters. Mix in glass with ice, strain into rocks glass with ice, fresh orange peel expressed over the top for garnish. Boom. Delicious and take 2 min to make if you have the ingredients prepped.
I bought some shitty simple syrup from the store and don’t like the result. I have real 100% maple syrup though, I am going to try that.
It’s super easy to make. 1 cup sugar to 1 cup water, bring to boil for about a minute making sure to stir until sugar is totally dissolved (otherwise it can get burned on the bottom of the pan), let cool.
It will stay in the fridge in an airtight container (we use old pickle jars) for up to a month.
This ^ also 2:1 ratio is more shelf stable and can last almost indefinitely in the fridge.
2 parts of sugar to 1 part water?
I do 1:1 because I don’t like it too sweet (and it appeared to be the most common ratio I found when research how to make it)

Highland Park is the easiest introduction into peated whisky and the most usual whisky you’ll find used in mixed drinks. If you want more smoke go Ardbeg 10 or Laphroaig 10 or Laphroaig Quarter Cask.

My friend… I need to take you on a peated whisky adventure if you love Laphroaig. Laphroaig was my first love of peated whisky. Specifically the Quarter Cask. Try some of their yearly Cairdeas releases. Also try Ardbeg, Lagavulin, and for the boldest of the bold flavors (also very expensive) Octomore. There are others as well.

Peated whiskey is bullshit, I can’t stand it, I like a sherry aged scotch. I swore it off after GAskol convinced me to buy Lagavulin 16, but I couldn’t stand it. I did send him a bottle of it when he was going through his divorce but even looking at that bottle again about made me sick. I’ll take a Dalmore 12 instead.
I like Dalmore for unpeated. But man I think peated whisky is so much more flavorful. You jumped into the deep end going straight to Lagavulin. My favorite is sweet and peat. Heavy peat balanced with heavy sherry. Just bought a Port Charlotte 18. Gonna rule! Try a highland park that’s heavily sherried, you’d like it. Their peat is much more of a heather light smoke rather than a strong peat reek. Also Highland Park’s whole schtick is Viking lore. You can’t find it anymore but their Highland Park Dark Origins was so damn good. A true sherry bomb. To me it’s like saying I’d rather have roasted brisket rather than smoked. To me that’s crazy, nothing wrong with roasted but smoked is just so much better imo.

There’s a good red licorice liquor called Fuegon, don’t know if it’s available where you are though.
I prefer Ouzo. Black licorice taste. No big deal, unless you either love or hate the flavor.
I drank tons of Ouzo back when I took a few weeks trip to Greece, also drank a ton of this Hellenic beer called Mythos. Ate tons of lamb, it was great.

Oh and they gyros, so good. It kinda bothered me that they had to ask if you wanted american style, which was ranch instead of tzatziki sauce, because so many americans asked if they had ranch.

My orange banana Jello-O with homemade whipped cream was good, if anyone is curious. I also put blueberries in it. I am basically trying to find alternative snacks that satisfy my sweet tooth that are somewhat healthy.
I whipped the cream by hand, too. Puts more soul into it.
I’ve been eating banana bread as my ‘sweet snack’ at night lately.
Wife makes it and it’s fantastic.
I have a sweet tooth and for the few years I’ve been counting out a dozen or so chocolate covered pretzels and eating them slowly at night before bed.
Now it’s one thick slice of banana bread, occasionally with a spoonful of Nutella spread on it.
Banana bread is a good call. I should make that.
I also am experimenting with homemade peanut butter cups, which are dang good.
I looked at homemade gummys and fruit snacks, but I’m not sure I want to get that involved.
Next experiment is putting the Jell-O water, blueberries, banana and whatever else in a blender to create a fruit slurry that solidifies. I wonder how that would work out.
I’d think if you toss in some almond or oat milk it would blend well and then sticking it in the fridge should be enough to solidify it but not freeze it. Or you could skip the milk and add ice cubes to the blend.
Well the healthy part went out the window with whipped cream and not sugar free jello. Just sayin. If you used real cream and didnt add sugar I guess thats better.

I get my cravings too. Im pretty good about fasting just naturally. I love breakfast food but always slept in since I was a kid so I never ate breakfast. I eat between 6-7pm at night, then dont eat again until 11-noonish the next day. Thats an 17-18ish hr fast every day. Eat around 2000 calories, 100g protein, work out 3-4 days a week. Keeps me pretty level but im a small dude so, its easier for me. Everyones body is different.

If he fails you get fired. If you stand pat and fail, you get fired. If you roll with Darnold, you get fired.

According to Schefter the Vikings and the Giants are the two teams that have shown the most interest in moving up in the draft to get a QB. I find it odd that the Giants are paying Daniel Jones $40M this year and looking to replace him. They just signed Daniels to a 4 year, $160M contract last year. Now they want to move up in the draft to pick a QB?

I watched the the Diggs catch with my mom. She always gives me crap because I don’t have any overt reactions while watching football, whereas she gets worked up.
