Envy is a terrible thing.
And envy driven by race is even worse.
I seldom agree with LeBron and do some with Barkley. but their reads on the Caitlin Clark situation are spot on.
Pundits/critics saying she has white priivlege.
women’s basketball was nothing. Clark is bringing in lots of fans and money – for everyone. She’s great for the sport.
Lebron and Barkley think the women need to get over it real fast and appreciate the gift they have been given.
This is disgusting but guess just the way things are nowadays.

“Caleb struggled” because he completed 3 passes? What were they working on? Were the incompletions drops? Did the rookie receivers and new players run the right routes? Did he hold the ball because they were going the wrong way? I mean, context is pretty important. I think “Caleb” will go through the same throes as every other rookie. JJ too. He might have had a bad day throwing the ball. OK. It happens. No pitcher throws a ball perfectly every time. JR might could tell us how often a pitcher throws a ball exactly where he’s aiming.

This post was about the difference in substance. JJ struggled because an Ohio State fan thought he did while others at the same practice said he looked good. Them saying Caleb struggled was based on facts. It still means nothing. It was just a comment from somebody about the difference in the assessments.

Also saw from the same practice that he supposedly struggled in that he went like 9 of 10 in 7 on 7s. Saw that Williams only completed like 3 passes in practice and only passes to the flat. Other than that he’s holding the ball too long. Seen lots of good comments about the velocity and quickness of JJ’s throws.

To me, at this point, it’s like watching pitchers in the bullpen. And he’s a rookie, he’s going to have up and down moments.

It’s practice though. They may have been running route combinations he never saw in College, and throwing to guys he’s never thrown to before. Clearly, Williams can throw the ball. Incompletions at this point don’t mean much to me. The coaches have to see where he is first, then work on where he needs to go. Baby steps at this point. This is the same for every single rookie QB, ever.

You know a lot more about this than I do.
But I think accuracy for an NFL QB is really, really important – more so than flinging it 100 mph.
And the other thing, learn to understand the complexities of NFL defenses and then to read them under pressure.

No longer New Vikings Fan
Reply to  JRobert
23 May 2024 4:48 pm

The learning curve for an NFL rookie QB is as steep a climb as anything you’ll ever see. First they have to learn a two hundred page playbook, and memorize all the play calls. This includes shifts, and alignment adjustments, as well as formations and sets. Then you have to go out and get good at running all those plays seamlessly. Next, reading defenses; which is is hard enough pre-snap. You have to then compute the route combinations against the defense whis is even harder. Keep your eye on the play clock too. Determining leverages is another element. Why is the CB lining up with inside leverage? Is the safety going to come over the top when corner forces the route outside? You have to know all the possible defensive adjustments post snap after hours of film study, and have the presence of mind to go through the proper sequencing of reads, too. Then add doing all that (and more actually) with all those those defensive linemen trying to rip your head off.

Yeah, it’s a lot.

The physical traits are the bottom rung of the ladder for an NFL QB. The amount of information they must see, understand, and process in two seconds is immense. “Rep’s” get a QB accustomed, and practiced to doing these things instinctively, but at some point, if you can’t process fast enough you end up being a one read QB. Then you take off running.

3 QBs on the roster is not un-normal. Roster Darnold, JJ, Mullins. Try to send Hall to PS if he makes it great, if not oh well.

JJ has to adjust to NFL speed/athletes. Not sure if he needs ‘a year or two’ as some have stated. OTA, mini-camp, training camp, preseason might be enough. Or he might need some or all of the 1st season.

See no reason to be concerned.

I don’t think so because you can only move a player from the PS to the roster twice, otherwise you have to sign him to the roster or cut him.

You could do it twice and then sign him, but that doesn’t jive with the emergency QB rule.

There is a link to the video now if you refresh. The cop very clearly overreacted and then lied in his report. He broke department policy by not turning on his bodycam (or so he claims). He also said he was dragged and sustained injuries from it while Scheffler ignored him. The video clearly shows him on his feet, hitting and kicking the car that immediately stops. Mr. Special Golfer was turning into the gate of the golf course to go play golf and this cop lost his mind and will soon be out of a job. There is nobody that I have seen yet that has watched this video and thought any differently. The cop even claimed that he was dragged so bad that it ruined his $80 pants. He was not dragged and the only contact he had with the car was when he punched the windshield (ope, there’s the hand injury from being dragged) and kicked the door (hmm, maybe that’s where the leg/knee injury came from?). I am very pro police usually and will give them the benefit of the doubt, but there is no way of watching this video and thinking anything other than that cop was way out of line.

Well since the video doesn’t show what happened at the beginning only that the cop felt he needed to stop the car and did.

As for the body cam he may have show up at work, had to go out right away and direct traffic in the rain and dark at a fatal accident site and he didn’t take time to insure body cam was turned on and working properly.

I know these things can be spun any way ‘the bosses want’ and often are. They are not dropping the charges so it was more than just the ‘power hungry cop’ trope.

Personally I have more empathy for the cop standing then rain/dark trying to help control a hectic scene and dealing with ‘Mr Special Golfers’ who only interested in their tee times.

His report didn’t say he was dragged, got up and chased the car. His report said he told the car to stop, and then was dragged/knocked down. Again, don’t you think one of the dozen or so people there would have reacted if he were knocked down? And how come there are other eyewitness reports that say nothing happened yet there is no corroborating evidence for the cop’s story? Like I said, I’ll back the blue, but this is dumb. The cop was embarrassed and lied on his report.

But there is something very strange about this that doesn’t make sense.
On the golf channel that afternoon four other golfers with earlier tee. times reported they did exactly what Scottie did.
And when the first officer goes up to the car, and sees who’s inside, why not simply let him pass. It’s like arresting the Fleetwood Band members in the parking lot on the way to the concert they are conducting.

Interesting discussion.
Do you keep Mullins or Hall?
Mullins is a better QB (even with the Ints) but Hall might be trainable.
3QB on the roster? Can Mullins even be Practice Squaded? Call Hall be safely stashed?

I think it depends on JJ. If he’s not ready, then keep Mullens as the backup and sit JJ. If JJ is ready, then he starts, Darnold is the backup, and throw Hall on the practice squad. If JJ is good enough for you to feel comfortable with him as the backup should Darnold get hurt, then he’s good enough to start.

Interesting read but I disagree.
We can have 10 QB’s on the roster but we are only sure at this point that one of them can actually run our offense (albeit with too many turnovers).
I have read for the better part of two years how complicated our offense is and demanding mentally of the QB.

Mullens cannot be on the PS.
A PS player can have no more than 2 accrued seasons, which is defined as 9 weeks on an active roster I believe.

If they keep four, Hall would be stashed on the practice squad.
My guess is Mullens or Hall are cut.

I don’t remember the changes and details, but you can have a couple of veteran players on the practice squad now. If your third QB is on the practice squad, they can also dress for games and be the emergency QB should both 1 and 2 get injured.

That sounds about right. I know there are some other rules that go with it compared to the rest of the spots but I don’t know em. Either way, there is a potential to have Mullens on the PS. I don’t see the point though personally unless you want him available should JJ get hurt. If JJ is good enough to be the #2, he’s good enough to be #1 so then Sam should be backup and you just toss Hall on PS. If Darnold is starting, I would keep 3, Mullens is backup, JJ 3 and might as well keep Hall on PS there too unless you need the spot for somebody else.

New rules are complicated, QBs are different than other positions on the PS.

Would Mullins get poached, would Hall? Worth keeping a 3rd on active roster? If so which would be more gooder?

I am thinking keep Mullins in Active roster until you have a better handle on JJ and Darnold. Kind of insurance.

Put Hall on PS, if he gets poached, oh well, pick at 7-11 type for QB 4.

I don’t see Hall getting poached. Mullens, maybe if somebody gets that desperate but probably still unlikely. If somebody poaches them they have to put them on their active roster. What team is going to get desperate enough to have to have Mullens as a late addition and active?

I understand that to be true if they are signed off of your PS. But if they are cut prior to being place on the PS they can be picked by another team. I don’t believe that new team is required to put them on the active roster in that case.

Between being cut and signing to the practice squad it is up to the player where they go so if he were to get multiple offers and chooses one other than MN so be it, he didn’t want to be there anyway.

Waiver claim is that the team picks up the contract.
So if he clears Waivers, then he is a FA to do as he pleases.

Not sure if “Waivers” is in play at this point in the year though.

DE Viking

I would say three different types but yes.

A waiver claim is if another team claims the contract after the player is released.

FA is an actual new contract once the player has cleared waivers and is assumed to be on the active roster after signing.

PS is only allowed to be with the team at practice.

‘FA is an actual new contract and is assumed to be on the active roster’

Right because if a team attempts to put them on the PS they have to first cut them and then we start the process over.

Same with Waiver Claim as they pick up the new contract they would have to cut them again before placing them on the PS.
