Happy Monday, everyone, and welcome to Skoloholics, your home for Minnesota Vikings Discussion. Everyday you can join us for Minnesota Vikings news, Minnesota Vikings talk, NFL news and updates, and all of those other things that you have on your mind. At Skoloholics, the real action is in the comments, so if you haven’t checked out the comments section yet, sign up and join the conversation. As always, remember to be cool to one another.

It was a good football weekend for Vikings fans as the Lions and Packers both lost yesterday. The Vikings are technically in second place in the NFC North now, not that it really matters at this point, but it’s much better than being in the cellar. Hey, it’s a start!

Now, the Vikings just find a way to win against the 49ers tonight. If they can manage to do that, they’ll be at 3-5 with 6 consecutive very winnable games following this week. The next six games (after tonight’s game) are @ Packers, @ Falcons, Saints, @ Broncos (I might go to that one!), Bears, and @ Raiders. You never know what could happen.

The Vikings-49ers game thread is scheduled to post at 6:30 tonight, so make sure you join us!

Minnesota Vikings Discussion Topic of the Day

What do the Vikings need to do tonight to get a win?

I think it’ll come down to offense. The defense SHOULD be able to hold SF somewhat at bay, expecially considering how banged up the 49ers are right now. In my opinion, it’ll all come down to the offense being able to sustain drives, get first downs, and put some points on the board. They need to do beter than what they’ve been doing.

Minnesota Vikings News:

SI.com reports that “all signs point to” Christian McCaffrey playing tonight. I’m not sure which signs they’re referring to, maybe some road signs around the city of Minneapolis or something, I’m not really sure.

Here is how to watch, listen to, and stream tonight’s game, courtesy of Vikings.com. They also share some final thoughts on tonight’s game.

NFL.com shares four things to look for in tonight’s Vikings-49ers matchup. Also, the Lions were destroyed by the Ravens yesterday. Might that loss be what sends the Lions into their annual tailspin? Wait and see!

CBS Sports has an updated 2024 NFL draft order.

Here are your NFL week 7 scores and highlights, courtesy of ESPN.

Thread Guidelines

  • Keep politics out. We are adults, news happens, and we can talk about it. What we don’t want is to go down the rabbit holes and turn a productive conversation into name calling and personal attacks.
  • Be cool to one another. Like it says above, just be civil. You don’t need to agree with everyone and that’s fine, you also don’t need to make it personal. Attack the argument not the poster.
  • Keep the NSFW to a minimum. We don’t need anyone getting in trouble at work for hanging out here.
  • All in all, be adults. Treat each other with respect and things will be fine. Mods will take out content they feel is pushing the boundary. If you want to reach out about something feel free to ask. We want to have robust discussions, that’s why we’re here. Just be civil and cool to one another.

I live in a very blue city in a deep red state. Unique state legislation here. Unicameral. Allegedly non-partisan. My political views are probably more Libertarian for a lack of a better description – but I detest the idea of being identified/tied to one party. Lincoln and Omaha have historically been blue cities dating back the last 35 years or so.

Yes, I said he was a stud. I am in favor of studs. Do you think any of the top brass (number 1 through 4 for example) in todays military are studs? I don’t think so, I have listened to their speeches and they seem to be generally more focused on making sure the trannies feel accepted than on actual military preparedness…I am at least 3 beverages into game prep so I may be rambling a bit.

My Dad’s brother served under him. Once told me this. At first, most of troops didn’t like him – the Old Blood and Guts stuff. But, he said as time wore on, they started to realize the Germans were scarred of him and because of his tactics, they were actually in a better position than if they were with any other commander.
The woke commanders today couldn’t carry his jock. or Nimitz’a or any of those guys

True Fact.

Lee went thru four years at West Point and never earn a single demerit.

Having been thru PLDC and misc Army courses I wonder if that was a political thing (His father had been a hero of the American Revolution and governor of Virginia, and uncles and other relatives had signed the Declaration of Independence, served in Congress, and otherwise achieved notable reputation) or if he was just that good.

U.S. Grant believed in pushing the attack forward until victory. Didn’t matter about the losses.
He figured that attacking/failing/attacking again would cost more troops than pushing thru the first time.
Plus the North had a manpower advantage so they could better afford the losses.

Doubt that is taught any more. Although the Germans and Russians used it quite a bit in WWII.

I think SFs scheme has lots of quick throws in it.
The Vikings no so much.

So Kirk will be required to hold it longer and since SF has better O and D lines it is not a good setup.

Argument seems to be the difference between Evidence and Proof.

When to you have enough of the 1st that it rises to become the 2nd.
No Proof of Sniffer being crooked, but lots of Evidence.
Same for Evolution or God-like being.

Same for Turmps elections,
The 2016 for libs, the evidence = truth.
For 2020 there is no Proof but just as much Evidence.

Seems like if it reinforces your beliefs it take much less Evidence for it to become Proof.

Just my humble opinion of course.

Is it just me, or did the Dolphins get screwed last night? I mean, 0 penalties for the Eagles looks like a line for the Packers against the Vikings. Perhaps you could say most, if not all, of the Dolphins penalties were legit, but I saw several, obvious uncalled ones on the Eagles. That’s a case of “the NFL is definitely rigged” and they wanted Philly to win, I think. Usually they balance out at the end of the game with a bunch of insignificant calls to make the box score look better, but man…. there should never be an NFL game with 0 penalties on one team, especially when the other has 10+.

My weekend:

So couple of years back my wife asked for and of course received a little mini bike to putt around on. It seems I use it more than she does (funny scene of a 6’5″ guy on a minibike) to run the dogs when they are acting under exercised. I even have a big trail cut around one of our pastures that will double as a XC ski trail this winter.

Of course when I was as far away as possible from our place the chain popped off. I got my heart rate up pushing the bike, chain got caught in axle, freed the chain, push the bike, chain gets caught etc…until I got close enough that my wife saw me, then I got to lift the mfer into the back of the side by side.

She said oh we’ll have to take it in to get fixed, I’m like oh my it is just a chain I am sure I can get it back on it’s not much different than a bicycle. I bet it’ll take me five minutes (nothing takes you five minutes except “that”). It actually took me ten minutes but I got abundant praise for fixing it…I love getting wifely praise.

That kinda goes with the foot rubs and back rubs.

Guy was working at our place with an excavator Saturday, had to take down sections of fence and knocked down low hanging tree branches. Cut up the branches, loaded up those and the remnants of the tree that fell in about eight loads on the side by side…then was out there with the fence stretcher and post pounder restretching the piece that got loosened by the tree falling and replaced all the fence the excavator took down…she came out and helped me by keeping the strands of wire from tangling up, said “wow I am really impressed how much you can do with the fencing!” That is just gold for me. Funnily enough of course I picked up the knowledge from her ex husband.

I find it equally as plausible that:
-a magic man in the sky created all beings; or
-every being came from some single-cell thing in the ocean – and then out of convenience of food (??) some decided to start walking on land and then some decided that to help hold things we’d get disposable thumbs

I have no clue how we got here, no one does, all theories. People who believe God created everything are equally as crazy as people who believe in evolution.

Why not both? You can actually see evolution/ natural selection happening in current species. Where people lose perspective is humans are not capable of understanding how long a million years is. I would be interested to know concrete evidence of something “evolving” in our period of recorded history. Finding a bird or snail that seems just like another one doesn’t really prove it to me. Only shows me we haven’t discovered every animal ever. I don’t suspect we ever will if every ‘evolutionary cycle” is in the millions of years.

Had a HS science teacher that brought in his HS yearbook from when he graduated in 1952 – showed that compared to our then current yearbook and how people’s faces back then were rounder and how the current yearbook showed the kids with sharper, more elongated faces and cheekbone structures. If a flat earther says evolution is fake and the sun is inside a dome I’ll listen. All things created by God? Sure tell me more.

That’s the point, evolution takes longer than”recorded history. ” there is a lizard I don’t remember where. They inhabit all of the area almost all the way around a mountain range. If you start at the let’s say to right and work your way around clockwise, they can interbreed with the ones next to them. By the time you get all the way around the mountains though, the two across from each other can’t breed. That is the definition of two different species and is a living example ah the evolution gradient. You’ve got to remember it’s small changes and takes forever. I’ll try to do a better job explaining it and give ya some more examples when I’m in a computer. Another place people get hung up is thinking that evolution goes against a belief in God which isn’t the case. Nobody is saying that there isn’t somebody putting a finger on the scale.

“Just because a dude theorized…” it wasn’t just one dude, that dude’s work has been built on and adjusted a lot. Gravity is a theory as well… Earth goes around the Sun… theory… your ignorance is showing. I don’t say that to be mean but people throw the word theory around in the context you are don’t understand what a theory is.

Also your typo of “disposable thumbs” makes me laugh… absolutely something I would typo as well lol.

Lol OK smarty pants. I don’t say evolution isn’t real, I say it’s as likely the truth as there is an actual God. Prove to me he doesn’t exist? If you know better than show me your peer reviewed studies bla bla bla.

Stu doesn’t give a shit what you believe.

I believe things can mutate, sure, historically mutations have been looked at as “odd” and “weak” and usually snuffed out, not sure why we were the chosen ones over the other sapiens, or monkeys, but lucky us? Or maybe something perfected us after all the other trial runs. Idk. You don’t know. Darwin didn’t fkn know.

It’s all quite literally best guess with some “well ya see now this bird looks exactly like this bird but there’s an odd adaptation here in it’s coloring and thus it must be “evolving” to use this new color to it’s advantage”

I don’t fully care either way, I think it’s extremely arrogant to say it’s 1000000x proven. Lol. And this coming from a guy who hasn’t gone to church in years – so I’m not some bible thumper – just don’t believe everything I’m told.

You could have saved yourself some time and just said If evolution were proven 10000000000% it wouldn’t be referred to as the theory of evolution, it would just be evolution.

It would have benefited every monkey and dude since beginning of time to have wings and we never evolved for that. We have near identical skeletons to birds, why aren’t we just the same now after all these hundreds and thousands of years

The secret to the discussion is that the “evidence” is meaningless. Both sides have the same evidence. It is all about the bias used to interpret the evidence.

Objectivity has little to do with it. Creationists generally admit that. Scientists do not.

“Evolution” to say that species adapt and change very slowly over time to account for various advantageous things is 100% real, IMO. But to say we came from apes is idiotic, again IMO. You can go as far as to point to all the “majority beliefs” about all the lies over COVID and the jab, and yet, the majority was WAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYY wrong. That alone should humble such a believer in “the science” like you.

We did not evolve from monkeys. We evolved from a common ancestor. Our closest ape relative in the evolution tree is binobo chimps, but we are still on different branches of the evolutionary tree like a whitetail and a moose.

If so, how did we develop logic, reasoning, planning capabilities, and all other higher order cognition? Just slowly came from nowhere while the other common ancestors died off or diverted to monkeys? Too many holes in logic for me, just like the Big Bang Theory (a random explosion created everything from essentially nothing).

It was fun in its simplicity. I enjoyed watching it. I like those 1950s flicks. I should review more of them.

The cream of the crop is still The Incredible Shrinking Man and Invasion of the Body Snatchers probably.

Pretty sure being a kid in the 1950s would have been a blast.

Definitely check out The Incredible Shrinking Man (57) and Invasion of the Body Snatchers (56). They are bonafide.

The 1977 Invasion of the Body Snatchers is good, too. The 1993 version is a bit odd, yet I still kind of like it. The 2007 version was okay but kind of toothless.

Really, it is hard to really screw up the “loved ones being replaced by duplicates” story.

The Incredible Shrinking Man is one of my favorite watching experiences ever. As a kid growing up where we had no TV, I got like ABC and CBS. The Incredible Shrinking Man was one one random Sunday afternoon on a snowy channel. Had a blast watching it.

If we (Vikes) keep Kittle out of the endzone I’m thinking you’re toast. Luckily for you (bad for us also) is I’m guessing Kittle gets at least a TD, but likely is limited for a ton of catches/yards.

Also, lucky for you (and us) CMC is a bit dinged up and could be limited, though a limited CMC could still be worth a ton in fantasy value (more catches outside, less runs through middle).

Long story short I’m thinking you’ll be fine because Kittle will get a TD – that helps.

How is the DN lately? Haven’t been there in a long time. Everyone still good vibes and all touchy feely since we degenerates are gone for good?

The Floyd of Rosedale finally returns to MPLS for the first time in almost 10 years. Much like Jerry Kill’s inability to beat Wisconsin, PJ Fleck lost to Iowa his first six seasons but finally out conservatived Ferentz for the win. If the Gophers manage to beat Wisconsin again this year it will be the first time in 33 years that the Gophers have beaten Wisconsin and Iowa in the same season.

Also, the tears of Hawkeye fans bitching about a punt return being called back because the returner called for a fair catch are delicious, LOL.

if the rule states any motion by your left hand means fair catch, well then don’t have motion by your left hand.

just as much as i hate the rule about fumbling out the endzone, this rule is really dumb too…but oh well…play any ounce of better throughout the game against an inferior opponent, don’t leave it up to ONE PLAY.

love watching the hawkeyes lose in minnesota sports fashion haha

It kind of is, but the returner is very obviously waiving his hand. The rule states a fair catch is ruled when the player waives his hand above his head. From the replay I saw he clearly waives his hand at about head level. The only questionable part is did he have his hand high enough. The refs determined he did. Cry more Iowa libs.

And throw more trash on the field like it’s Norman, Oklahoma in the early 90’s…

I hate OU. I have a bunch of family in Oklahoma and there is a schism between them when it comes to CFB, most are OSU fans the rest are OU fans. Personally I like OSU much better because their mascot is way cooler, but I also just like the OSU family members better than the OU ones. Plus, I just love Mike Gundy.

I missed most of the game. I turned it on just after the punt return that was called back. After about 10 to 15 minutes of real time, I told my wife, I did not see much football, but I did see a lot of drama.

You didn’t miss anything. Offenses sucked, the Gophers QB was the worst I’ve ever seen the first half, though he was better the second half and there was crazy wind. Very boring game.

i have a pretty stinkin epic story of my nephew (9 years old) who has been indoctrinated into the hawkeye koolaid drinking idiocy by my brother in law.

punt return for a td, nephew runs over to my dad’s house (they live right next door), my dad is behind by 5 or so minutes, so my nephew says “i’ll watch with your gramp” (keep in mind, he saw the punt return for a TD and INSTANTLY left to go to my dads house), so he’s watching and watching BOOM punt return for TD, nephew stands up and starts screaming “WE WON WE WON GRAMP WE WON HAWKEYES WON HAHAHAHAH IN YOUR FACE THEY WON!!!!!”

My dad says come on now, there is still 1:30 left, don’t ruin the game for me, gophers still have time (my dad is delusional of course), but wait….the reverse the call, NO TD. my nephew asks my dad, wait….gramp, what is happening? my dad explains it. my nephews face turns ash, and he says “i need to go talk to my dad” and leaves the house never to return hahahaha.

i love that story so much.

Yes, Risner is starting, it would be better if it were at RG and Cleveland were playing but at least the Vikings have some depth now.

Well what’s interesting is Ingram started playing much better once there was a threat for his spot in Risner getting signed. Hopefully that continues.

He’s still mostly awful, given up the 2nd most sacks in the league, 10th most penalties, and is the only olineman to strip sack his own QB, he’s still the weakest link on the oline and should be replaced, but he has been slightly better since Risner was signed. My favorite Ingram moment was when he said he played well after strip sacking Kirk and giving up a bunch of pressures and a sack.
