JOE MAUER IS A FIRST BALLOT HALL OF FAMER AS DAMN well SHOULD BE
He was by far the best catcher of his generation and the best hitting catcher in the history of MLB. Oh, I forgot, he’s also Minnesota bred and born. He’s the best athlete to come out of Minnesota in the state’s history. I remember watching this game live and being moved emotionally at this moment. Image how amazing the moment was for Matt Belisle to throw the last pitch caught by a first ballot HOF catcher.
Vikings News
Behind the BSPN paywall Mel Kiper’s first mock draft has the Vikings taking a CB in the first round. Here’s what he had to say:
Nate Wiggins, CB, Clemson
In my final mock ahead of the 2023 draft, I projected the Vikings taking a cornerback. Instead, they went with wide receiver Jordan Addison, who had a fantastic rookie season, catching 10 touchdown passes. That need in the secondary still exists. Minnesota ranked 28th in passing yards allowed to receivers last season (3,019), and 2022 second-rounder Andrew Booth Jr. hasn’t quite figured things out. Let’s go back to Clemson — Booth’s former school — with the selection of Wiggins here. Wiggins was a lockdown defender in 2023, allowing just 4.2 yards per attempt as the nearest defender in coverage.
Could the Vikings take a quarterback? For sure. Kirk Cousins is a free agent, and I don’t think rookie fifth-rounder Jaren Hall will be the guy long-term. At this point, though, the most likely option might be running it back with Cousins, so adding a starter on defense makes more sense. This obviously could change as we learn more about general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah’s plans.
Article about potential Vikings DL draft prospects
Davante Adams would apparently like to catch passes from Kirk Cousins
Non Vikings News
Odds for the conference championship are currently Baltimore -3.5 over KC and SF -7 over Detroit. Personally I would bet on KC to cover as well as Detroit.
Minnesota Vikings Discussion Topic of the DAY
I see no reason to re-sign KJ Osborn, the Vikings effectively drafted his replacement in Addison, who is way better, and their WR2 is actually Hock anyway, what do the Vikings do to replace WR3 in the offseason? Bring him back? Powell, who was also the PR and didn’t suck at that, was a moderately ok WR4 is also a FA. Nailor is always hurt and has shown nothing when he has played, do you just hope he develops?

Dont think they have a four seasons there, you might be SOL.
Harbaugh hired by the chargers
Well now… Chargers gonna CHARGE!!!
AFC West now has 3 pretty high profile coaches with Reid, Payton, and now Harbaugh.
he has a shelf life as he wears on people because of his intensity, but they’ll be a lot better with him
A little jealous. He was interested in the Vikings a couple years ago. I said at the time I was guessing the Vikings didn’t handle him properly, thinking they were the ones doing the interviewing instead of the other way around. I’m thinking now, though, that he also probably didn’t want to work with a young, analytics minded GM.
It should be interesting to see what he can do.
Especially since the last HC was the cause of all of the teams issues.
#allegedly
Not allegedly, he flat out sucked
I can believe some, maybe even most, but all of the teams issues???
#skeptical
might be the dumbest fucking coach I’ve ever seen, he did this, total dumbass
Good for the Chargers. Of course, the Vikings should have hired him.
The Jordon comment gave me an idea for the Vikiings.
Go find some 6’11 or 7 foot former basketball player.
Use him at TE at goal line and just toss it up.
And for special teams, put him in the middle of the defensive FG team.
That’s where Jimmy Graham came from. I don’t know if he even played college football.
And Antonio Gates
Sounds like Diggs on way out again. Who wants his contract and cry baby mentality?
No post game talk, same dude, different team.
JJ for Allen?
Think Allen makes a couple billion a year.
Cash per year left:
2024 – 30
2025 – 39.5
2026 – 38.5
2027 – 40
2028 – 41.55
There was a signing bonus with 6.6 left to be accounted for that would be a dead hit in the case of a trade. There is also some restructure and option bonus that I’m not sure about but would likely be a dead hit and amounts to about 27 mill. The dead hit in a trade for the Bills would barely be more than the dead hit the Vikings are going to take if Kirk isn’t on the Vikings this year.
The annual cash values seem to include the option and restructure numbers so they might be able to trade him with only a 6.6 mill hit or the cash per year to the acquiring team would be lower.
I’d love Allen, Bills won’t give him up in a deprived qb market.
No, but a guy can dream and throw out crazy ideas.
Guess i’d like KC for a couple years and draft one you hope works. I hate the rebuild term, i always want a chance to win.
Me too – win every game or at least be in a position to win.
I thought Diggs hadn’t spoken to the media since the game?
He didn’t postgame, pouting i’m guessing.
Or embarrassed.
21 yards on 3 rec will do that, he is a big time diva. We won trade, got JJ and i think Bynum for a 4th rounder.
Talent always trumps anything else
Dolphins kicking Vic Fangio to the curb. Eagles said to be interested in bringing him in as their DC.
I heard that the Dolphins did him a favor, because he wanted to move back closer to home.
Patriots have signed Michael Jordan to a futures contract.
Thought basketball was his bit, maybe some baseball.
Yea me too – a total round baller.
Why you checking the shape of guys …….
Never mind, you do you.
Things you learn on the internet…
No bfast in bed NVF, back to salt mines.
from yesterdays current events, I wonder if Haley runs as an idependent since 70% of her votes were not from her own party.
She got more votes than Biden
Answer is no – I think. Maybe looking for a VP consideration.
She will not be Trumps VP.
Book it.
I want to see Vivek as VP. I could see Trump going with DeSantis as well. Probably going to have to pick somebody a little more moderate though. Vivek would just be fun paired with Trump and then running again on his own in 4 years.
I do like Vivek’s “eff them” mentality.
Not sure it works for VP slot.
We’re screwed no matter what and the left will cheat and reinstall Biden anyway so we might as well get some entertainment out of it.
Biden is so f’d up and all the cards (media et all) against us, bit it’s possible if our side wold get their friggin act together.
I fear something far more more sinister will happen.
Same
Will cheat if only to maintain power, even if you destroy this once great country. Picked a good time to age.
her entire campaign gives me big problems,
For years I have had big issues with Soros and his big money having far too much influence on. elections (one person) – e.g., local DA.s
Now our party has a couple big donors who don’t like our front runner so are forking over big money to Haley to keep her going. Wasn’t for that money (couple of brothers) she’d be long gone.
Whoever Trump picks, he really needs to be smart about it.
And she talks on both sides of the issue horribly. She’s on video talking about raising the minimum retirement age and now swears that she has never once said that and that Trump is just a big fat liar.
DeSantos wold have smoked here were it not for the Koch brothers and all their money.
Yep.
Jeff Diamond is predicting a 5 year 172.5 million dollar contract for JJ….
That’s 34 million a year, plenty of money to sign Cousins and win the super bowl.
I have read that due to it being an extension of his current deal the first year won’t effect the cap at all (well any more than his current deal does).
Subsequent years would depend on the contracts structure of course.
So pay a guy who averages touching the ball just under 7 times a game, the same amount of money (or close to it) as the QB? This seems pretty skewed to me, but there are some WR’s getting paid big money out there.
Didn’t say I thought it was smart.
Probably isn’t from a purely football point of view.
But since the Ownership is about filling seats and making money, having JJ in purple might very well be worth it.
Yeah, I get it…
Is the ownership really about about making money and filling seats?
Of course, they didn’t invest that many millions to lose money.
Of course winning makes franchises more valuable as well so doing that is a worthy endeavor as well.
But it is said around here like it is bad – making money.
Would think most of the guys around here are conservative and into capitalism.
Winning and putting a good team on the field is the product of the business
I think the criticism is that when teams/players talk about ‘being all about winning’ while mostly being about the $$.
Fans care more about winning then they do their teams owners making money.
Successful teams make money, chasing success seems a lot term strategy to make money. They are certainly not mutually exclusive.
Players want to win – players want their money.
Owners want to win – owners want to make money.
All good – seems like the American way.
In both cases they want their money more than the other, with few exceptions.
Is that OK?
Yeah, it’s okay for them.
As a fan, I want wins.
Thats why fans complain that players and owners care more about money than winning.
Thought you were a capitalist and would understand.
Key word is ‘;more’ – who really knows.
Believe these. guys are competitive as hell – and I’m sure still want money
Just because I want wins, doesn’t make me a non-capitalist.
As a fan, why should I accept a shitty record because “football is capitalist”?
You have to just accept that you have chosen to be a fan of the Generals and that nothing will ever change that. Unless JJ starts dating somebody really famous. That might do the trick. Saint Floyd wasn’t enough to gain the NFL’s graces so time to up the ante.
I guess that’s what supposed to happen. Shut up and let the team make money.
You imply they don’t want wins.
I’m a fan and I want wins – in fact every game. No go suck for a while.
But I also accept that players earn their living playing and want to be well paid.
And in fact as a capitalist we should expect the best product on the field.
Money>wins for players and owners.
You know players leave winning teams to get paid more on bad teams. Happens every year.
I just think they are not so mutually exclusive as some suggest.
But no doubt – like all of our society – money is a big deal.
Any signing bonus proration would affect the cap this year but the big salary numbers wouldn’t have an affect on the cap until after the expiration of his current contract. So, it all depends on the structure and how much his signing bonus, roster bonus, salary, etc.
Depending on the structure it could actually lower his cap hit.
Significantly higher than Hill or Adams. Do that and you need a qb to get it to him without busting him into little pieces.
They’re both older, in the case of Adams considerably in terms of WR age
True, that proposed JJ contract i can’t get my head around. Maybe trade then.
Man, I think JJ is great but that’s a lot of money for a WR.
Yeah, its a huge contract, but in terms of the cap neither Miami nor LV have significant QB cap hits the next couple years so they can manage big WR hits. We’ll have to see how it plays out with JJ, I don’t think they’d want to go into his final year without an extension.
Sure something has to be done, if they end up tagging him he’ll be pissed.
Yeah, I’m not sure what happens, but I think they’ll re-sign him.
Packers in similar situation with Love, they going to offer him 45 mi?
IDK, I wouldn’t but who knows, he’s much more of an unkown at this point whereas you know what you’ll get with Kirk, provided he’s fully recovered on time.
Wreck Spielman predicts the same for JJ and that Cousins will get at least 45 mil a year.
Well, he knowsbig contracts.
I don’t want Cousins at 45…I think he will get 45, but I don’t want him at 45…
It will be considerably less.
That’s what I think as well, he’s similar in age to Stafford and has relatively similar stats, Stafford is making 40 mil but signed his deal two years ago and contracts only get more expensive.
Stafford wasn’t coming off a torn achilles when he signed his either.
Yeah, that too but Kirk will still get 45 mil a year
‘I don’t want Cousins at 45′
You don’t want to sign KC to a 10 year contract because he will be 45 at the end of it??
So what 5-7 years enough for you??
#snicker
I might take him at 45 for 10 mill a year…lets see how he ages…
How about 3 years, 45 total? Heck even 2/45.
2 years 45 I would take in a heartbeat and so would KAM
How about 2 years for 70 ?
2 for 65
These are all numbers Kirk could “retire a Viking”, on.
But his goal is big money.
Good for him.
I’d do that, but if it were me I’d have to have some performance bonuses built in. At least for this year because of the injury. I’d have a hard time fully guaranteeing anything just to have something happen in his recovery and him never see the field.
think some performance bonuses type stuff would be really good.
Yeah and I’m not talking anything crazy either. Add something in that he’ll easily hit if he’s healthy like 3000 passing yards. Go crazy too and add in some big bonuses for playoff wins, SB win, SB MVP, league MVP, etc.
Very fair and reasonable.

Yeah, read it again, even confused me.
This from Pro Football Focus…I am only reporting the news….
Maybe the Vikings will decide it’s time to rebuild, but they only just missed out on the playoffs in 2023 — and that was with Kirk Cousins missing the second half of the season. He has earned a 79.0-plus PFF grade in every season in Minnesota, and while he is unlikely to break into the elite ranks in 2024, he is good enough to get the Vikings back to the playoffs, perhaps even winning the NFC North again. Getting into the postseason with Cousins and hoping for some luck to fall their way feels like the Vikings’ best option, considering who else is available at the position and where they pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
And let’s be honest, we have seen this before. As much as I have appreciated the Wilfs we know which way they will push the ship… butts in seats… playoffs puts butts in seats.
So do shiny new QBs
I Ponder if a shiny new QB can also make people not tune in. There was a time in the earl 2010s where I wouldn’t bother watching the whole game. Would go write music or play video games, wait till the game was over and then just skip the between play banter of the commentary, got done with the sad game in like 45 minutes lol. I Ponder why that was? Anyway… it was a dark time and I think there might have been a shiny new QB at the helm but who knows? Pondering can hurt your brain.
those were Dark days indeed, almost unwatchable QB play.
I’m talking about shiny new QBs, not turds.
For decades fans all loved the ‘backup QB.’ Then with all the draft hype that has switched to the shiny new QB.
The league has shifted considerably. Rules changes have made it easier to play well earlier in a QBs career, the way contracts have developed has changed considerably.
Agree. But we also run one of the most sophisticated offenses in the league. It is very WR friendly but requires a lot (mentally) out of the QB. Now, it’s a good offense, not saying that it isn’t.
Umm… sometimes they are turds. Not sure if you’ve paid attention to the NFL draft but it happens.
And sometimes they’re Mahomes, Burrow, Allen. Not gonna win the Daytona 500 from the pits. Get on the track and try.
Ricky Bobby did…
He won Talladega by overcoming his fears and taking a chance. Well technically he was disqualified but he crossed the line first. Maybe Kwesi needs to have a mountain lion in the draft room with em this year.
And crashing and burning doesn’t win either.
Better to have a realistic feeling about picking a QBOTF – maybe a good to very good QB that can be a starter in the league for 7-8 years.
Still not going to get that guy without trying. You’re not going to expect Mahomes but you’re not gonna get one like that by doing nothing and even if they re-sign Kirk he’s only got a couple of years left. If you draft one now and re-sign Kirk you will know by the time Kirk is gone if you need to take another swing at it. If you wait until he’s gone you get forced into picking a Ponder.
I said draft one – it is necessary. I’m just trying to have a realistic expectation about what we might get. So, I forget the Mahomes or Fields stuff.
Don’t get me wrong. I don’t expect the next Burrow, but I can be hopeful that they will get one. Wouldn’t it be glorious to go into the 2025 season and know who the QB of the Vikings is going to be for the next 15+ years?
Of course it would be wonderful,
Fact.
Ponder lead the Vikings to the playoffs once over 4 years.
Cousins has lead the Vikings to the playoffs twice over 6 years.
Is it really that big of difference when you go one and done?
Try something new Wilfs.
Fact.
Peterson led the Vikings to the playoffs once despite Ponder Playing QB…
That said, I won’t be upset if they move on from Kirk as long as they take a shot at one of the top 3….
We end up with Wilson and I will be pissed.
I hope/pray that your ‘top 3’ does not include the CryBaby.
Which one is the CryBaby again.
Caleb
So he cried after losing an important game? That just shows he cares…
You would rather he be dancing in the locker room after a big loss?
No, cursing and throwing shit.
No crying after a collage game just shows how mental/emotionally strong he is and how he can stand up to the pressures of the Pro game.
Crying isn’t a sign of weakness, it is a sign of strength. Why do we link sadness with weakness? Allowing yourself to feel the pain will bring forth a river of tears. Allowing yourself to feel the pain, takes incredible strength. It doesn’t take strength to bury the pain.
Right,
we should give all the troops in the foxholes a box of tissue for when the going gets
tough.
When my brother passed leaving a wife and 4 kids I was too busy helping/dealing with all the issues. Two years later I broke down and cried.
Crybaby was still on the field, not the time or place.
I know…I was just copying some shit from the internet talking about Crying is a sign of strength…I am with you. I don’t want him either.
He was crying because he ‘wan’t going to win the Heisman again, he wouldn’t make the playoffs and he would ‘get a % of ownership in the NFL team he signed with’. (reportedly)
Again, entitled snowflake.
I don’t think the NFL allows ownership as part of the pay for NFL players. I think the Patriots tried that trick with Brady and were shot down.
I didn’t say he was likely to get it, just that it was reported that is what he was going to try for.
If he had won a 2nd Heisman that is.
Yeah, I just don’t see how that could even be a report. Either his agent lied to him as part of recruiting him, he’s a total dumdum or the reports are false.
‘If that wasn’t enough to show the “diva” side of the quarterback now it has surfaced that Williams wants partial ownership of the NFL team that drafts him in April.’
https://nflspinzone.com/posts/caleb-williams-draft-stock-could-drop-with-recent-public-comments-01hd72wremps
Yeah, like I said. There is either more to the story or he’s a total moron. Sure seems entitled as all get out and I’d stay away from him. Seems very Jamarcus Russelly to me.
I think a lot of guys get emotional, but control themselves until they get into the locker room. I’ve read a couple articles that the Vikings locker room was a lot moreso than the last several seasons with Harrison even getting emotional, which the reporters said they’d never seen.
Nothing wrong with strong emotions.
There is a time and place for showing/dealing with them however.
I would rather he be pissed off rather than literally crying on mommy’s shoulder/chest with her holding a poster in front of his face, but to each his own. There’s also the fact he sucked or was meh against decent teams.
Well, the comparison premise is ridiculous… so your “fact”, is baseless, and utter hogwash.
I don’t think Young put many in the seats the 2nd half of the season…and he was #1 overall….a cautionary tale. (And yes, I know the Stroud pick turned out well)..
I’m talking about shiny new QBs, not turds.
Panther stadium at end was something to behold.
I think the vikings are quite a bit more talented overall than the Panthers, Young on this team would look much different, the Vikings record probably isn’t much different either.
One might wonder if they were in the Wilfs shoes running this business, what they would do ?
Extend Kirk, draft a QB high and bring in a vet with potential upside along the lines of a Mac Jones. Extend JJ.
Why bring in a Mac Jones type? kirk, drafted QB and Mullens seems enough. extend JJ – good. Then some defensive talent maybe.?
Mullens is what he is. Bring in one of the guys that might be able to get better and be trade bait. Mullens is worth nothing if you have Kirk and a high drafted rookie. Teams will give high drafted QBs more chances. Get em cheap and even if you get a 5th or 6th round pick out of em when somebody loses a QB that is a win. Best case they show enough improvement that you can recoup even more.
Simply because of the complexity of the type of offense we run. People mention Minchew – notice him in Texans game. Same problem Dobbs has.
Mullens. I thought actually improved as he played more.
Don’t see need to waste money if we have Kirk, drafted QB and Mullens. Bringing in another QB will require most of the season for him to just learn our system – waste to me.
New QB would basically be #3 so he’d still be able to learn and would be just as cheap as Mullens with more upside.
Ok – but I don’t waste too much sleep worrying about QB#3
Depending on the rookie he might suit up as #2, but I would expect a high drafted rookie to be ready to at least be the backup in which case having Mullens who there isn’t any upside beyond being a solid backup is pointless.
Don’t understand your thinking. Kirk is starter, QB drafted is backup. that seems fine to me.
Are you saying then go get just about anyone to be another QB – like Colt McCoy?
Get one of the young, high drafted QBs like Zach Wilson, Mac Jones that have failed thus far. You can get them cheap but if they grow and improve you have a good backup with starting experience when the rookie takes over or trade bait when another team loses a QB. Having a good backup is important these days and you should always be developing other guys a la the Patriots when they had Brady.
That’s great – esp. if they are cheap. I’m just not big on Mac Jones, Wilson fine though.
I’m just throwing out the guy that right now is most likely available. Not sure that the Jets will move on from Wilson just yet with Rodgers coming back. They could draft one though and Wilson could become available real cheap.
Other potential options off the top of my head would be Fields, Howell, Ridder, Pickett
Pickett sucks, Fields I think Chicago is keeping, Pickett similar, could probaby trade for Howell, new regime probably wants their own guy.
I agree that Fields will likely stay in Chicago. Pickett probably but it wouldn’t surprise me if they move him. Howell likely stays and they get another. Just throwing out some names that could become available cheap enough and to illustrate my point. Having one of those guys as the 3rd QB and eventual backup or trade bait.
I think if the Redskins were offered a 4th or 5th they’d move him, it’ll kind of depend on what the coach thinks of him. On Pickett Tomlin said he’s the starter next season but he will have competition so its not set in stone.
Very good point.
Let Kirk go, draft a QB, bring in a bridge QB that can at least keep the team around .500 if the rookie isn’t ready. The Vikings went 7-10 this year and attendance wasn’t effected. So long as the Vikings remain “relevant” late into the season fans still waste their money on games.
Bridge QB probably being realistic can’t run our offense and may take most of the season to learn it. Would just go with Mullens and drafted QB if Kirk let go.
The attendance loss metric comes more of a ‘drip’ than a ‘pour.’
This person obviously knows nothing about the Vikings
Good point…
NBA said Hornets-Wolves game refs missed 10 calls in last 2 minutes. Refs man.
So the NBA is as rigged as the NFL?
What article said, hard to fathom that.
Minny might have a shot at 50 next week. I like it.
keep the climate change coming!
I have to keep weather data at work.
In 1981, it was 65 degrees on this day. That’s crazy!
This is proof the earth has cooled like 40 degrees in the last 43 years.
that’s exactly how these moron’s do their math too haha
No it isn’t
a lot of them, yesssssssssssssssssssssssssss
Yes some idiots just like the idiots that don’t understand when we have more and more of the polar vortexes it’s because less ice up north there so it is due to global warming why it’s so cold. I am no tree hugger, the earth is warming, we don’t know exactly why and honestly warming a little has way less effect than cooling a little but it has been warming.
I like how to create their graphs that show a massive increase in global temperature they have to exclude a bunch of data points.
changing from ‘the next ice age’ and ‘global warming’ to climate change was a brilliant strategic move.
All about the narrative and wording.
Yeah the science was wrong in the 70s but isn’t that the beautiful part of science? It can be wrong, it can change, and update and get better. Way better than religion which is the infallible word of god and can’t ever change. It’s why we are all pro slavery just like the Apostle Paul right?
Point being, just because they were wrong in the 70s about the next ice age doesn’t mean they are wrong now about the earth heating up a bit. It is, but it also isn’t worst thing in the world either.
And just because they were wrong in the 70’s doesn’t mean they were right in the 80’s,90’s etc.
Beauty that the science changes? The science once said the earth was flat. Then said it wasn’t. Did the earth change – no. The earth was always round. So at any time, is the science right, slightly right, or off.
If our society is going to spend hundreds of billions of dollars based on the ‘science’, we might well want to make damn sure it is really close to right.
The earth has been warming (a little). To deny that because of your political identity which is pretty much 99.9% the case is to deny many other scientific facts. The problem is the tree hugger left hijacks this info and blows it out of proportion and makes it a power and money grab. It’s the same thing the right does with some topics too. Just a bunch of crooks that you guys buy into hook line and sinker.
I don’t have an opinion on this based on my political affiliation. It is based on the science degrees I have and looking at the actual data. Not just the cherry picked numbers that the media and the climate wing nuts push. There have been other “warm” periods but they get omitted from the data set to make a big scary graph that shows the temperature of the earth climbing. And you really think they know what the global temperature was 100 years ago within 1 or 2 degrees? Give me a break. Even carbon dating is wrong due to different isotopes at times.
So IF global warming results in more Polar Vortexes (and that is a stretch), shouldn’t that actually end up cooling the earth…which in the end slows or reverses global warming???
No, that’s not how it works. It allows brief periods of those vortex to escape.
Yes it is. When they aren’t just making shit up…
We’re doomed!
that’s one of my favorite things to do when people talk about breaking a temp record….
especially when it’s breaking a temp record from the late 1800’s (When bendumdum wishes he was from)
I remember that day. I was in college (SDSU) and we all went outside wearing shorts and t-shirts and played football. A great day.
You are OLD!!
And of course it would be nice at San Diego State University…
LOL
No compensatory picks for Purple
4 teams finished 7-10
Falcons, Bears, Jets and us.
We get the last of those picks based on tiebreakers. Figures.
Just pick well and it will still work out.
Give KAM a paid vacation April 25.
Record isn’t a factor in awarding comp picks. But the Vikings are not likely to get any, based on what they did last offseason, the only player the lost that signed for anything of significance was Tomlinson, but they won’t be awarded a pick, they spent something like 14 mil more than what they lost.
Comps about FA. I was talking about the 7-10 tiebreaker which i don’t know what are.
I think it is based on strength of schedule.
The way your comment reads it looks like you’re saying the record tiebreaker determines the comp picks, at least to me
Compensatory refers to what you lose and what you gain back in FA. Maybe i need another cup of coffee.
I get what Nostradumbass sees. Your list looks more like one statement tying record and compensatory picks than multiple separate thoughts.
It did to me as well. I was like, I never knew that was a thing but I probably just don’t know.
I just learned that before penicillin, syphilis could be “cured” in an outside-the-box kind of way. People discovered a high fever after symptoms could kill the syphilis infection, but how do you distribute a fever on demand?
Malaria.
People with syphilis could be infected with malaria. The malaria would hopefully kill the syphilis. Then the person would go on quinine for life to keep the malaria in remission.
Terrible predicament, but I appreciate that kind of problem solving. You have to be a smart person with a unique brain to recognize malaria could be used as a tool.
I am so glad I live in a more modern age of medicine so my syphillis can be more easily taken care of.
That sound brutal.
i love when people say they wish they lived in simpler times, or back 100 or 150 years ago….
those people are dumb. life was simpler, but would prefer not to die from dysentery
I wish I lived in simpler times back about 100 years ago
Think life expectancy about upper 50’s, may rethink that one ben.
100 years ago president coolidge signed a new immigration law that prevented immigrants from coming into the US easily….
oh how the times have changed…..
Wonder why tried that with Al Capone, if they did it didn’t work as he had a lot of brain damage from the syphilis.
For those of you who contributed to the GM discussion below, I think we covered the territory pretty well. My takes:
Could go with all of that.
WRT QB – draft and develop but see no need for a bridge. Roll with Mullens and save the money.
How big do you want the CBs to be? LB size? Evans is 6’2 200, Booth is 6′ 200, Murphy is 5’11 190 but he’s also the slot CB when they go Nickel, Joejuan Wlliams is 6’3 and 210. Blackmon is 5’11 175, he is small, needs to get bigger. I do agree they need better CBs though.
Need the next Legion of Boom in my opinion. 6’2″ and 200 lbs, with speed. Our DB’s don’t seem to want to tackle at all either. They get trucked, just like our linebackers do.
Evans doesn’t really bring it, even with his size.
Size is good but even better that size translates into physicality.
All good defenses are physical.
Seems easy, I don’t know why everyone doesn’t just do this.
Draft guy bigger, stronger, faster, and better at football than everyone else…
^^Purple War Room.
Well, since it is not Tuesday we may struggle to find pertinent discussion topics.
Time for a Subaru update.
Since I have retrieved it from its 6 month vacation at the shop, I have put 600 miles on it and it is running great…feels like a new car (which it basically is)….
sounds like now is the time to sell
How the hell did you go 6 months without a car?
My son has a Kia for college but since he was studying in Germany starting in August he didn’t need it. July was tricky, but we had 2 vehicles among my wife, my son, and I, we made it work.
Ah, I see. I’m lucky my FIL has two vehicles, a car for commuting to the cities and an SUV to pull his trailers, I can always borrow one or the other.
Nice to have a back up…in general we are all rich, spoiled Americans.
Look at you guys flaunting all your white privilege.
Truth to being privileged…any family that has 3 vehicles for 3 people is privileged…
Any FIL that has 2 vehicles for himself is privileged…
Although all of our vehicles are 2018 or older, so maybe those don’t count? We are really a 0 vehicle family…
Even if you have just one, if it’s not electric, you are bad – shame.
Son of Bitch I forgot about the EV clause.
Shouldn’t Joe promote global warming if promoting EV’s? My understanding cold and batteries don’t mix.
Hmmmm…..this sounds like one of those catch22 thingies….
Compared to the rest of the world, most Americans are one-percenters, yep.
Remember, that was my birthday present for you – enjoy.
Thanks! I do kind of remember…
You should drive that POS off a cliff
Where is the love???
That looks like one of our airbase folk from California driving on ice for the 1st time…
Hey we have snow/ice in Calif.
We just keep it to select areas so the rest of us can have some warmth and sunshine.
Get out of Dodge before that state breaks off into Pacific.
Only the coastline will break off.
We are far enough inland that we will be safe.
My mom in Santa Barbara might be doomed though.
I’ve secretly been planting charges inland to push the major population centers out to sea. Northern California will be spared. For now.
North and East.
Coast is woke.
Seems enuf people leaving, should lighten the load a little.
LA times editor published an article asking the people leaving not to criticize the state on the way out.
‘Didn’t want to make those staying to feel bad’.
#wokecrap
Love my Subaru.
Reviewed The Beekeeper…
Looks like my kind of movie. Forgettable and no woke messages. Just entertain me, dammit!
Mom-Jeans cracked me up.
Great line
I left this comment but I’ll ask here as well. On a scale of your chinless professor to Jay Leno where would you rank this movie?
Rumor Willis…
LOL
I’m a little surprised by this, they were a top 10 defense last year
From behind the BSPN paywall on this article:
https://www.espn.com/nfl/insider/insider/story/_/id/39369641/nfl-exec-predictions-2024-future-teams-russell-wilson-baker-mayfield-kirk-cousins
Kirk Cousins and Bill Belichick will be Falcons … and win the NFC South
The feeling out of New England was that Belichick planned to target an established veteran quarterback for the Patriots in 2024. If he gets the Atlanta job, as some expect, he can follow a similar blueprint.
Cousins very well might re-sign with Minnesota, but if not, the Falcons offer several high-end skill players on offense and an improving defense — they’re the proverbial quarterback away. “[Belichick] can help a talented yet underachieving team, and Atlanta is that,” an AFC executive said. “Cousins would be a great fit there.”
Good, go get your ring Kirk you deserve it. I don’t think you are winning on in Minnesota… Also if you take a really friendly team deal in Minnesota then awesome I love you and never wanted you gone lol.
Kirk will never win a SB, never.
But he already has a special shelf for a Lombardi trophy.
He might as well just stack the piles of cash he’s robbed from the Wilfs since that’s obviously what he cares about most.
Who are you??? Benstradamus??
Sure!
More like the ‘Cancer man” – Buffalo will never win a Super Bowl as long as I’m alive.
Benstradumbass
Good fix, Edge..
Will MIchigan go red or blue in this upcoming presidential election?
Michigan is like the 5th most negative state in net migration since like 2020 behind Illinois, California, New York, and Pennsylvania. Where are they moving? The carolinas, Tennessee, Arizona, and Florida. Care to venture a guess as to one factor? COVID. Generally speaking stupid libs love restrictions, and dumb republicans generally hate the restrictions, so part of it was people moving to less restrictive states or moving to states that lessened restrictions early. Blue States are getting bluer because conservatives are leaving, red states are getting redder because that’s where they’re going. Michigan is only getting bluer. They will definitely vote blue again.
COVID – some. You think law enforcement and state income taxes have some bearing?
“Dumb republicans generally hate the restrictions” – wonder if some ‘pretty smart’ ones did too.
that said, Michigan is probably solid blue.
Yes, that’s why I said one factor. Others are retirement, taxes but really its the cost of living increases in general is higher in those states. All republicans are dumb, all libs are stupid, its science.
I like to think repubs have a higher QBR than dems
Lol they will win 8-10 games and get bounced in the WC. Thats Kirks ceiling. He doesnt have the emotional control/head to handle the pressure of NFL play offs to get to a SB
atlanta has a very good offensive line as well right?
Yes
hmmm interesting. wouldn’t mind seeing kirk go and then he can put everyone’s money where their mouths are…..the kirk lovers who have been banging the table for better offensive line to help him and the kirk haters who say it won’t matter, he is kwirk and will never win anything.
It all just depends on what narrative/story line the NFL wants to push next year. If they decide Kirk is going to be their darling then he might have a chance. This year it’s Mr. Irrelevant vs. Mr. Swift. The scrappy Lions may get a chance to dethrone Mr. Irrelevant, but the NFL will make sure Mr. Swift is playing in the SB and probably MVP so they can have “her” on the stage after the game.
does seem like the NFL picks their ‘darlings’ and things just start to fall in line. You weren’t here last Saturday and we were talking about the world class wrestling holds going on with the other purple line.
Yes, this makes sense…I will cheer for Kirk and the Falcons, unless they are playing the Vikings.
Since you are just reporting the news from another source, I will allow it.
Not happening.
Kirk said he wanted to retire a Viking.
YESSSS!!!!!
He wanted to remain in Washington too, but the GM didn’t want to guarantee his contract. Sound familiar? Same situation here. He wants to remain a Viking, but the GM won’t do the deal. Not saying KAM is wrong, just clearing up your misrepresentation of the facts. Cousins wants to retire a Viking, but the GM and he can’t (and won’t) agree to the structure of the contract.
If Kirk TRULY wanted to retire a Viking, he could make it happen.
But we all know it’s all about the money.
You can believe any false narrative you want to. just don’t insist we all have to buy into it.
Wait?
So he could ‘make sure it happened’ if he didn’t get a NTC so then the GM could trade him away whenever he wanted??
Seems like a NTC would be more likely to keep him in Minn until he retired.
Yeah, this is the common sense that evades some folks.
Speak it into existence.
I played volleyball last night, and the other team had pretty good spikers. Not like, DI college or anything, but surely DIII.
Miraculously, I managed to dig a couple with the back of my open hand. Once I got home, I found the spikes had hit my hand with enough force to actually flatten my wedding band on my finger, so I couldn’t get it off initially.
That was maybe the funnest game of volleyball I ever played. We lost, of course, but all of us were somehow getting a hand on their spikes and thwarting the other team to the point of frustrating them.
One bad-ass girl on our team was superman-ing across the floor. Another girl actually shrieked in pain when he somehow got in front of a spike, took it full in the chest and somehow boob’ed it up into a perfect set.
My knees hurt just thinking of volleyball.
some friends of mine are big into Pickle-ball. I like my knees intact so will stick with golf.
Yeah, I am slowing down, for sure.
I wear kneepads even. I’m like the only guy out there rocking big marshmallows on his knees. I personally don’t know how anyone can play without them. Next step is to get sport goggles and wear those short, gray shorts with a fly on them. Plus, black socks.
So basically, you’re the Kurt Rambis of volleyball?
Pretty much. Except I have no hair.
Fun! My knees told me I was done with hardcourt – we play on sand all year long – the bar I play at has 3 courts and a Tiki bar under a dome in the winter.
I’m officially a dad again. Last night the granddaughter was doing something and when I began to say something to her I started down the list of names. I called her by 2 of her aunt’s names before I got to her name.
Laughing… welcome to the club…
It is weird how names stop coming to mind. I am continually running into people’s whose names I can’t recall these days. Often times, it will suddenly pop in my brain at the last moment. At other times, I am in “Hey…you…” mode.
Went in to NSA a few weeks back and a number of folks came up to me and greeted me warmly, calling me by name. I recognized all of them, but I couldn’t remember their names at all. Very embarrassing and awkward.
Its always good to have someone else with you in those situations so you can introduce who your with and then wait for the other person to say their name.
Yeah, sometimes I just bite the bullet and tell the person I forgot their name. It depends how socially close we are. Like if I just met them a couple of times or if I had previously interacted with them a lot.
I constantly mix up my kids names, especially when one of them is doing something stupid, like yesterday my youngest was playing with this frozen wand that lights up, my oldest was playing with a pirate sword at the same time and went to whack the wand like a sword fight, but very nearly hit her sister in the eye and I in my dad voice said don’t do that its unsafe! and then called her by the wrong name and my oldest asked “what did she do that’s unsafe”, I then had to correct myself and say to her “I meant you were being unsafe”, I’m an idiot.
100% me as well. i call my youngest son by my middle sons name CONSTANTLY, and now my youngest will just answer to it, and then a little later be like, hey dad, you know you called me “mini freeze” instead of “miniest freeze” a little bit ago right?
If you just have one you never have such problems.
Congrats on the new child!
Thats fun…enjoy your time with your granddaughter!
Hmm..a chance to be a Dad again for a potty trained but not old enough to be snotty teenager. – doesn’t seem like a bad gig.

Twins @ Royals
Greinke VS Liriano
Twins win 19-1
Danny Valencia hits a Grand Slam in the top of the 1st – his first career homer. Twins hang 6 runs on Greinke in the 1st.
Mauer went 5-5 with a 3-run homer in the 7th.
Career high 7 RBI’s
My seats were 3rd base side, literally right behind the Twins dugout. I was looking players in the eye when they came back to the dugout. Such a cool experience. Place was basically empty by the start of the 3rd inning.
This was right before Favre’s second year with the Vikings. At the time, he had not committed to playing (iirc Chili and a few others took a Wilf jet to Mississippi to convince him to run it back)
FS1 interviewed Mauer that night in front of the Twins dugout. Was 15 feet in front of me and a fairly large group of Twins fans that had made their way to the 3rd base side. Mauer had his back to us and I yelled ‘Joe! You’re the best quarterback in Minnesota!’
Easily the coolest sporting event (and the best tickets) I’ve ever had.
And now he’s a 1st Ballot Hall of Famer. Too cool.
Skol!
That’s awesome you got that close to Mauer. From what I understand he’s pretty visible in public and very gracious when approached by fans. He had the most consistent swing I’ve ever seen, like every single one was exactly the same. The concussions seemed to effect him of about 3 years of his prime and forced the move to 1st base, which sucked. Either way its great that the majority of voters recognized he deserved to get in on the first ballot. I’ll never understand the logic of some of those voters, like I get that first ballot is like the elite of the elite, but after that either the guy is worthy or he’s not.
Also, I believe it was Steve Hutchinson and Jared Allen that flew down to Hattiesbury on the Wilfs private jet to convince Favre to come back, one of the issues was Favre did not like Chili, I know for sure he wasn’t there.
That second year with Farve was one of my least-favorite years ever. The icing on the cake was Moss coming back…and then going away again.
What a crap show…
Yeah. Sidney Rice out and Favre trying to drive rocket balls into Bernard Berrian in double coverage. No bueno.
Moss came into the locker room and vomited on it.
i took my (at the time) soon to be father in law to the vikings packers game here in minneapolis in 2010 (favres second season with the vikings) i think we got beat 31-6 or something gross, favre MAY have gotten hurt? i can’t remember, all i know is my soon to be father in law’s favorite moment of the game had nothing to do with the actual game, but me telling the 3 women in our row who got up and came back to get beer probably 12 times, that if they left one more time, not to come back. and they left and never came back hahaa
Thought it was Chili, Allen and Longwell – I’m sure you’re right. Mauer was definitely robbed by the concussions. I wish they’d just convinced him to DH the rest of his career – he may still be playing.
I think Longwell went too.
So, GM for a day. You have all watched the Vikings the first two seasons under KAM and KOC. This offseason, where do you go from a roster perspective? What’s wrong with the roster that needs to be addressed?
The list of what is wrong is a very big list for this team. Have two options
Me? I trade JJ for picks, dump everyone that is expensive and over 30 and start over.
Stands would be 1/2 empty in 2024 since I suck as GM.
and that’s really the question – is it 1 or 2, and that answer should dictate direction to go. I also think it’s hard to make a fair, objective evaluation of that.
For sure losing Kirk and JJ was big blow to our offense. On the other hand, have no real idea of where our defense actually is – new coordinator and some injuries.
Hopefully some folks that are pretty smart are. going to make this evaluation.
Crazy though, we won what – 4 games without JJ? JA stepped up and took up the slack for the most part.
But, given the choice of keeping JJ or JA, it’s JJ hands-down for me.
How much would a team give us for JA?
Addison is too early on his rookie deal and too cheap to get rid of unless somebody was dumb enough to give you 3 firsts and 3 seconds.
From these options I’ll take 1.5. Re-sign Kwirk, draft a QB high, extend JJ, probably let Hunter walk, Harry likely retires, dump Mattison and either draft a RB or bring someone in (Barkley, Henry or one of the others that will become available) or both, sign a CB in FA and draft one or three, new kicker, IOL in FA if available.
Makes sense. The big question for me is this. Are the Vikings a better team now than they were when this dynamic duo of Kwesi and KOC took over?
I think the answer is no. I also think they will have more cap room next year to improve things. That does not mean they will improve, just that they can try since they will have more cap flexibility.
Might want to bring in another TE as well somehow. Maybe Irv is ready to break out?
Reasonable way to move forward and still cover a lot of bets.
Top Concerns for the ‘24 Vikings:
What I would do:
*Perfect World* – KC comes back for a 2 year deal as the ‘bridge’ and Minny drafts QBOTF (I think this is highly unlikely, but I’ve been surprised before)
Dont see KC coming back. So I’d attempt to sign a bridge QB (Minshew? Tebow?) and draft QBOTF.
Attempt to address IDL in FA. Christian Wilkins is the guy I’d covet most. I’d also take Justin Madubuike.
Resign Hunter – don’t know if this is even possible with the salary cap.
Draft Braelon Allen at RB – tricky, as the Vikes don’t have a 3rd rounder and that’s likely where he goes – but I love that kid. And he’d start his rookie year as a 20 year old, lots of miles left on those tires and he’s a legit power back with home run ability.
Sounds strange given the on-field performance but I think KOC and staff are happy with our IOL play and won’t address it aggressively. Maybe a late round flier on a tomato can. This may prove costly, but I think it happens. They could address this in FA with either Robert Hunt in Miami or Kevin Dotson in LA.
I agree with Ben on KJ – I’d move on. Probably can address WR in the draft with a late round pick. One FA WR I like is Darnell Mooney in Chicago.
Other FA’s I like:
CB Steven Nelson
LB Patrick Queen
LB Jordyn Brooks
Again, I have no clue if any of this is possible with the cap and where Minny sits with available money.
They’ll have to either re-sign Risner or find a replacement.
#1 is make a decision on QB
#2 is find an interior pass rusher, there are several high end ones on the open market but I’d target Christian Wilkins, if he can’t be attained, I’d probably look to the draft. My guess is KAM signs Javon Kinlaw, whose still pretty young but has had his development stunted by injuries so far and we all know how KAM loves to sign guys that have injury histories. Guys who can impact the passing game from the interior make life easier for DEs, plus pressure from the edge is easier for the QB to deal with than pressure in their face. Too many times Hunter or Wonnum got pressure from the edge but the QB just stepped up in the pocket and casually made a throw downfield.
#3 Edge, Hunter, Wonnum, and the couch are FAs. Pat Jones flat out sucks. There are always plenty of decent Edge guys in FA but they are expensive, we’ll see what KAM does here. My gut tells me Hunter is back.
#4 they probably need to find a starting LB with Hicks a FA, maybe they re-sign him, he’d leave a fairly big hole as far as being the green dot or whatever they call the guy with the communication device in his helmet. They talked up Assmoar a ton in camp his rookie year but he didn’t play much at all that season and got beat out by UDFA
#5 IOL, Risner is a FA so you’ve got to replace the starting LG, there are a couple internal options, Brandel has been decent when called upon, but he’s also a valuable backup.
TL;DR – Decide and QB and find pass rushers are the pressing priorities.
Bring back Bobby Wade!
Congrats to Joe Mauer, well deserved.
