Vikings vs. 49ers
The game started off with a great run by Mattison, then Kirk threw a pick a few plays later. The Vikings defense responded by forcing a turnover of their own, and then the Vikings took a 7-0 lead behind a great pitch and catch from Cousins to Addison. The Vikings got the ball down to the one yard line on a couple occasions, but continued their recent tradition of losing yards on the goal line, and had to settle for a field goal both times. Hey, at least Joseph hit the field goals, because he missed the PAT on Addison’s second TD. Kirk Cousins, after a bit of a rough start, had a tremendous game. Addison is an absolute stud and he showed it last night.
The offense may not have lit up the scoreboard with points, but they looked MUCH better last night than they have. They controlled the ball and churned out yards. To tell you how good our offense looked for much of the night, the Vikings didn’t punt until the 4th quarter. The Vikings offensive line looked really good last night overall, they formed some really nice pockets for Kirk on many plays.
The Vikings defense looked tough. The defense got some key stops to force the 49ers to punt, and they held a very good 49ers offense pretty much in check for much of the night. Cam Bynum gets the game ball for the defense, and maybe the game.

Wow, this has been a heck of a game! The Minnesota Vikings defeated the San Francisco 49ers! Cam Bynum got his second interception of the game to seal the W. Great team win! SKOL!!!!!!!!!

And because of that, the Niners had no real answers to stop our offense.

Now, if it were me, I’d have been totally pissed over that first Int with a WR, but same WR certainly redeemed himself well.
I honestly don’t even remember what happened that play I was trying to get a 6 year old and a 3 year old to not play tackle football on the hardwood floor

Go ahead and extend Cousins but draft one as well. If they extend Kirk, there should not be a no trade clause and then if the rook is ready in 2025 you say bye bye to kirky.
I would not extend beyond 2 years (and I would do that), pending they draft a QB this year to sit and learn. Either way, that’ll be about time to move on.

Vikings ranked 5th in offense yards per play and 12th in defense yards per play. They are giving up nearly a whole yard less per play than last year. Flores is awesome.

Have believed, and last night reaffirmed it, this is a better team than last years. And believe by year end could be a much better team than last year. Defense and oline much improved.
Defense looks much improved, Flores is doing a very good job so far. If the offense figures out how to punch the ball in in goal line situations this season could turn into a really fun season. Beat FTP at their place, go on a roll!

I was annoyed how many times we just mindlessly ran into an 8 man box against the bears.
Then this game Kirk came in and KOC let him check into or out of plays. AND it worked well.
Kirk caught them a few times in run blitzes which opened the middle of the field, and checked into a play that took advantage.
Kirk gets shit on a lot around here for doing dumb things, but that takes some real skill to do.

I do think he is a fraction of a second slower to make reads this year (possibly longer), but last night he was decisive and made the correct throws for the most part

The screen call into the blitz was perfect….
Its not that he doesnt ever do good things, he never does them consistently week in and week out and rarely does it against top teams. Last night as an exception to the rule. If he played like that for 90% of his time here he would be worth the money, but he hasnt, and wont. Theres always another Bears and Chargers game around the corner.
I agree with you here. I honestly didn’t think he would do this against San Francisco. We’ve seen this type of game out of him before. Usually against a struggling team.

That was our super bowl! O line and defense are no longer an excuse. Flores and Addison are HIM. Kirks best game in almost a full Calendar year. The circus was entertaining for sure. However, the past month of a half of subpar football is still in my mind and one (pretty Amazing) game does not erase all that. Keep it even keeled. And I still pray this ONE game does not sway the front office from finding the next QB of the future.
I still believe they will try to move on from Kirk, well unless we make the owl.
Not sure. If they continue and turn this around – get in playoffs and win a game or two, be interesting to see how things go.

I am going to disagree and say we still lose those games even with out the turn overs. They were not well coached, schemed, executed game despite the turn overs. So, just gonna disagree.

I think it would be difficult to suggest that starting the season in a 9 to zero turnover deficit wouldn’t have some impact on your won – lost record.
I’m fine if they give him a reasonable extension but they still need to draft somebody. Both options can coexist.

I’m sure it is mentioned in individual posts below, but that was my favorite Vikings prime time game since Favre played the Packers:
-Kirk was a steely eyed missile man, holy crap if we had that offensive scheme and that version of Kirk we have a top 5 offense. How many long third down conversions did we have? Sustained drives against SF defense.
-No JJ made our offense look more balanced. I don’t recall a Hock drop and Addison was on fire.
-Zero sacks. Risner looked good. Kirk got pinballed between two linemen and then delivered a dart.
-Flores is a god. Sure Purdy completed a few 10-15 yard shots but other than the fire sale blitz catch and run TD for CMC we stymied SF.
-Buck said Cousins hadn’t been sacked and amazingly the next play he didn’t get sacked.
-what is with the narrative of every call the Vikings way the “expert” in the booth has to wax poetic about what a bad call it was.
-Booth not only scooped a ball with his fingertips just off the turf for a first down, he caught a slightly tipped ball like a pro.

One rare nearly flawless game and now they’re perfect all the time! Until the next time one of them (usually Ingram) craps the bed and costs 2 fumbles and 5 sacks and ruins the game. Because I think that is much more likely. But yeah, lets assume last game (flipping heads on a coin 17-times-in-a-row rare) is now going to be every game, instead of their typically bad center-guard play.

It was both good blocking and the play calls. Lots of medium routes so Kirk could throw quicker. Then when we needed a deeper pass, the line held up. Plus, Kirk really made them pay on blitzes. He immediately and damn near robotically sensed the open zone the blitzer vacated and made a decent throw.
It was really an impressive performance by Kirk.

Hock came up lame from blocking on the previous play and KOC saw him hobbling and smart coach that he is, told him to go down to buy more time for the next play. All coaches do this, there wasn’t anything shady about it

No more of the deep drag routes that JJ runs with great success.

I wonder if that would have happened either way knowing how good their pass rush is. Might be they would have done it with or without JJ. At least less of it for sure.
I suspect Risner is a huge upgrade over Cleveland in pass protection. I think that helps some as well.

I don’t have the magically pff membership to see the passing grades, but Cleveland has been decent in pass pro. Ingram, not so much.
It is nice to have a guard come off the bench and not suck, actually play as good if not better than starter. Looking at you Dozier.
Agree with you. KOC must have heard our criticism of his routes and put in more 5-8 yard routes to give Kirk a shot at a quicker release.

I would like to see more Akers. Mattison was fine I. The running game, especially if we opened a hole. But he has struggled a bit in the passing game.
Akers dragged multiple defenders with him till the 2, and then after a commercial break we send out Mattison. At least give Akers a shot there to get a TD. We need to get points from 1st and goal though. That area needs some work.
Overall though some really good play calling.
I think they are the only team in the league now to not have a rushing TD. How do you get this far into the season without a rushing TD?

We need something in our red zone offense. Got a lot of factors against us, but we need to be able to rush it some – no negative plays – inside the five.
Just don’t think Mattison sees the holes all that well.
Mattison certainly has struggled this year.
Drops, fumbles, missing running lanes, and even running the wrong route.
Thought he would be better.

Addison’s breakout last night gets me excited thinking about this offense when JJ returns. JJ, Addison, Hock, improved line play…. Recipe for an avalanche of points imo…

Oline was awesome last night, D was great, Kirk was great, Addison was very good.
