Injuries

Dang it, Cashman is still out, but Evans, Hockenson, and Risner still have a chance at being a go for tonight. I’d love to see Risner out there on the O line, I think we’d ALL like to see something other than Ed Ingram laying on his back and Garrett Bradbury trying to win the 2024 NFL false start contest. I still think they should give Michael Jurgens a look at center, but I’m guessing they have taken a look and they think that Bradbury is better. I find that hard to believe, but if they thought Jurgens was better, he’d be in the lineup.

Trade Rumors

There are lots of rumors out there about the Vikings and their potential (hypothetical) trade targets prior to the trade deadline. Some of them make sense, some…..notsomuch. I saw one suggestion that the team go after Cooper Kupp. I don’t see that happening, especially at a position that is a position of strength already.

The Vikings have built what they have by being prudent on who they target, being smart with contract structure, and building from within whenever possible. This approach has worked for them, as they’ve built a contender in just a couple years, so I don’t see them changing course now. I just don’t see them pulling off a trade for a big name, as that hasn’t been their MO since the KAM and Co. took the reigns. I see them continuing to do what they’ve done.

The one area of obvious weakness for the Vikings is interior offensive line, and I would imagine that they would like to upgrade either the RG or C position. If they do pull off a trade, I expect it to be for a mid-tier interior lineman, someone serviceable. I doubt they’ll give up a ton to go after an elite player with a big contract, since they don’t need to do that in order to upgrade from what they currently have. A league average lineman would be a significant upgrade over Ingram or Bradbury, so if they do pull off a trade (which I doubt) then it would be a scenario like I just mentioned, in my opinion. Who knows? It’s all guesswork and speculation for now, but we’ll know for sure by November 5th at 3:00 pm central, this year’s trade deadline.
