Vikings legends

appy Tuesday, everyone, and welcome to Skoloholics, your home for Minnesota Vikings Discussion. Everyday you can join us for Minnesota Vikings news, Minnesota Vikings talk, NFL news and updates, and all of those other things that you have on your mind. At Skoloholics, the real action is in the comments, so if you haven’t checked out the comments section yet, sign up and join the conversation. As always, remember to be cool to one another.

It’s difficult to pick games in the first quarter of the season. Teams that were strong are suddenly not so strong (anyone watch the Jaguars or Bengals last night?), and teams that were considered weak coming into the season will sometimes surprise folks (see: Vikings).

I’m not sure what’s going on in Jacksonville, they had a playoff win in 2022, and everyone expected them to build on that in 2023. Well, they didn’t. They went 9-7 again, and missed the playoffs. Many expected the Jags to be at least respectable this year, but yikes, they look horrific so far after three games. I’m not sure they could beat my 9-man high school team right now. They did help me get a narrow win in fantasy football this week, as I had the Bills defense.

Vikings/NFL News and Updates:

Here are the week 3 NFL scores and highlights, including last night’s two MNF games, courtesy of ESPN. In case you missed it, the Bills beat the dogsnot out of the Jaguars, and the Commanders held on to beat the Bengals.

At Vikings.com, great news as Sam Darnold’s MRI revealed that he had only a bruise and no structural damage to his injured knee. I’m grateful for that. I feared the worst, because I’m a Vikings fan. Also at Vikings.com, HC Kevin O’Connell recapped the Texans win and previewed next Sunday’s matchup against the Packers.

Vikings running back Aaron Jones is impressed with the 2024 Vikings team, according to NFL.com.

Media Selection:

Since I missed the party yesterday & didn’t get a chance to play this, here you go. Better late than never (but never late is better). STRIKE UP THE BAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Thread Guidelines

  • Keep politics out. We are adults, news happens, and we can talk about it. What we don’t want is to go down the rabbit holes and turn a productive conversation into name calling and personal attacks.
  • Be cool to one another. Like it says above, just be civil. You don’t need to agree with everyone and that’s fine, you also don’t need to make it personal. Attack the argument not the poster.
  • Keep the NSFW to a minimum. We don’t need anyone getting in trouble at work for hanging out here.
  • All in all, be adults. Treat each other with respect and things will be fine. Mods will take out content they feel is pushing the boundary. If you want to reach out about something feel free to ask. We want to have robust discussions, that’s why we’re here. Just be civil and cool to one another.

Rewatching Vikes/Texans….

This game was never in doubt.

Excited for this offense when at full strength with JA & Hock back. I think having Jets, JA, Speedy, AJ & Hock on the field all at the same time will present nightmares for defenses.

Our Defense is the best in the league. BFLo in the 2nd year of his scheme with familiar pieces added feels dangerous. Greenard & Van Ginkel have been awesome – Greenard looks rangy and strong, Van Ginkel has some of the best instincts playing off the edge. Cashman getting sideline to sideline and making impact plays everywhere.

There’ll be hiccups – but not one game on the schedule looks un-winnable to me.

This team feels special, this season feels different…..

It’ll be heartbreaking when it ends in spectacular fashion – because, Vikings.

But until then I’m going to enjoy the ride…..

Last church turned into a cult. My wife and I had a house church for a while with other couples who left our previous church. We found a great new place eventually, but we were without a church home for several months.

Happy to be in a healthy place now. Thanks! 🙂

I gotta admit I was wrong on Tlaw so far, I thought they were going to be improving greatly after the end of 2022 but so far he’s been so underwhelming. I’m not sure if his heart is in it as much as it needs to be and he was thinking he could succeed with raw talent alone.

Same.
I thought Jax with Lawrence and Pederson would make for a good team.
They were in the playoffs in 2022.
I was completely wrong about them as well.

Pederson could get fired before the end of the year.

When we drove through Fargo on the way to our overnight stay in Clearwater (MN) last week, my wife commented that we should stop there on our return at the Duluth Trading Co store…but when we did return I was on the tail end of a hard 13 hour drive and dealing with the usual placid winds of the Red River Valley.

That’s the only underwear I wear, personally.

But I got a couple of packages of Walmart Briefs about 10 years ago and they are doing just fine, some starting to show some wear.
My Taco Ma is ’07 and doing just fine with routine maintenance.
I figure that the more I can make stuff last the less I have to buy, = to making more.

I know I did a very thorough underwear review back in the day on the Pansy site.

I still contend that Cariloha and Chill Boys and True Classic (new brand) are all more comfy, but Duluth Trading Company has products that last.

So far, True Classic is lasting, and more comfy, and cheaper. I will not throw out my Duluth Trading Company, and have several different styles. Armachillo’s are great for golfing. Bull pen is becoming a thing since I am 61 years old.

so far, I am very impressed with both Duluth Trading Company, and True Classic.

I think a big part of the issue is awareness, as more people become aware of the symptoms more people will identify as having it.

I grew up with dyslexia but no one was aware, I was never tested and I didn’t figure it out until after I was fully grown and had developed coping techniques for handling it.

I think that is also part of what happened with Autism, Parkinson’s I don’t know enough about to know the answer there, hence my question.

I hate reading garbage like this:

“All credit to head coach Matt LaFleur for a 2-0 stretch without Jordan Love. And it seems Love could return as soon as this week. Not that LaFleur needed any validation, but the start to this season is more proof he’s one of the NFL’s best coaches.”

Yeah, it wasn’t because they were playing trash teams (which some here said would be tough games, btw), it was because LaFleur is an all-time great coach. Sure…

KFEY93

My thoughts exactly, the default “Jordan Love is top 10 and Laflower is a great coach” from the talking heads is annoying. Jordan love is the definition of small sample size and Laflower has coached well against an easy ass start to their schedule. Im hoping for an ass whopping regardless who starts as their QB on Sunday.

Yes, that would be good. Yeah, it’s so funny that they claim Colts (with Richardson at less than 50% completion rate) and Titans (with Levis, the boneheaded turnover machine) are quality wins. Just totally illogical praise. But then again, the media lies about pretty much everything – even sports stuff has its biases.

Packers should be slight underdogs in this game. Even if Love comes back, he should be a smidge rusty, and our defense is getting after it.

If Vikings protect the ball, they should give the Packers all they can handle.

Vegas has to factor in where they think the money will be bet when they set their odds.
Traditionally more $$ will be laid down for FTP plus they started the season as a favorite while we started as an underdog. The betters are still catching up.
Smart money will close the odds closer to kickoff.

Nice to see you (is that really the way it should be phrased since this is the internet?). I hope all is going well for you and the family.

I like the way Wrenage said it:

They can’t really break my heart this year because they are playing with found money. It was supposed to be a retooling year, and anything good that happens is a bonus.

Family is doing well. Wifey continues to impress at her job. Oldest kid has started college. Younger two are both in high school. Life motors along.

Hope all is well with you also – any news to share?

Oldest kid has started college.

Wow, time just keeps moving along.

I don’t know if you have been lurking here or not, but my grandson (my oldest boy’s son) just finished up his treatment for Leukemia. He is now 100% cancer free. Because of that, we had our granddaughter living with us since January. That was a shock to the system as we haven’t had a 6 year old in the house for a long time. They just got the all clear last week, so they are all heading back home to the Seattle area.

Since it is Tuesday, I can say this…

The departure of Kirk has made the team less constipated. Cue standard caveat: Kirk is not a bad guy. I don’t hate him. But when you bring in a QB as “the missing piece” at that price, the burden of expectations comes with it, and when those expectations are continually not met, it makes watching the team a chore.

Now they are free from expectations this season and playing fancy-free football. They can’t really break my heart this year because they are playing with found money. It was supposed to be a retooling year, and anything good that happens is a bonus.

I expected 4-6 wins, and we are 3-0 with a chance to solidify the lead on the division with a win over the Packers Sunday. I don’t even care if they lose that much. I just want to see them keep being competitive.

If the defense can make it past the stage where enough film has been gathered on it for teams to better exploit, and the return of Addison and Hockenson can make the offense more better, and KOC doesn’t stick his head fully up his buttocks, there is still a lot of fun to be had this season.

It’s not his fault, but I’ll never forgive Cousins for replacing Bradford/Bridgewater/Keenum

That was the last great chance the Vikings had. 2022’s team wasn’t that good, but it did feel like destiny for a while there, didn’t it?

It’s been fun watching the Vikings win so far this year. I’ll be interested to see how fun it is (for me personally) to watch them lose. I was able to laugh it off last year – hoping it’s the same this year.

Yeah, Kirk was definitely a mistake in retrospect, compounded by holding on to Zimmer for too long. Then doing things like drafting Mond.

That whole regime was allowed to run on fumes far too long. I’m still not sold on Kwesi and KOC either, but it was time to flush and move on regardless.

I liked Kirk, but sometimes it takes a re-set. I remember a business leadership book from back in the day called Good to Great and one concept was to get the right people on the bus. Someone may be a great person, but to move from good to great, you need all the right people in the right seat to excel.

Kirk’s a fine dude (outside of his grilling sins), but it felt like a waste of the end of the Theilen/Diggs era to have his hyper-sensible approach to minimizing risk.

None of Bradford/Bridgewater/Keenum were good (Bradford had a good few games, but was made of glass). So you were mad about an upgrade and can’t forgive him for playing better than those guys, and for his durability? I get that he didn’t live up to expectations, but you couldn’t have honestly expected those other guys to get a SB. Seems illogical to me.

Kirko is not the answer.
Captain Stats and a great arm (and that should be priority #1 for a QB)
However, he cannot run off script plays, and when the shit hits the fan (very good defense) he struggles. Mobility is a huge bonus.

Sam is very good. Not sure if he will ever be as accurate as Kirk, but he does have a very strong arm, and is more mobile. Much better at 10 mil vs 40 for Kirk.

Happy for Kirk and his HOF agent that they are getting money from someone not the Vikings.

I will also enjoy watching ATL lose.

The MAIN reason the Vikings were able to build up the roster, is the good decisions made in the off season. Including letting Kirko and Hunter walk.

And the couch. Happy to see him out already.

One thing I really like about Darnold is he limits his checkdowns. If we need 10 yards for a first down, then he typically throws for the sticks or beyond.

Sure, it will burn him at some point to some degree with INTs, but he is giving the offense a chance to keep moving down the field. You got to score in this league, and it takes first downs to score.

Sam is also a LOT more mobile than pre injury Kirko.
Sam can run if needed, and has a quick release.
We know there will be bad things at times, but I have hope.

And, next season we get JJ.

Yep, he can get out of situations that were sure sacks with Kirk, which helps the Oline look a little better, too.

It isn’t always pretty, and he probably needs to just take the sack sometimes, but he keeps plays alive that would have been dead with Kirk, which also gives the offense a better chance to stay on schedule.

It is super refreshing to watch.

Question-
Some said that we didn’t upgrade personnel during the offseason but still the D looks so much better. Is it because those that have been here for longer understand it and those that came are learning from them at Flores better than those that left?

It’s really nice to have stopped the revolving coaching door(for now)!

I like to not have a pit in my stomach at 3:45(eastern time) on Sunday because I feel a lead is something we can keep 🙂

The defense has better talent. Plain and simple.
Kwesi and Flo did a good to great job of upgrading the roster.
Lots of new starters, and as long as they do not get too crushed by injuries, the solid play will continue.

It is strange to see so many new faces on the defense, but they are playing like they have been together for years. Good coaching on both sides of the ball IMO>

Survival League Update #3

Welp…don’t let any of us get put in a survival situation…or even on a season of Survivor…or even listen to a song by the band Survivor.

We are all really, really bad at surviving.

It is only week three of Survival League and everyone is done. Wait…what…who?

Never in my saddest dreams would I have imagined no one would make it through week three, and I have very sad dreams full of lost puppies and broken hearts.

In a gesture of what only could be called sarcasm, Yahoo insists that we did have “winners,” though, and I guess that is true technically. We have FIVE winners actually because no one could manage to separate themselves from the pack.

BowBunch
Jayberj
NoDakRube Pick Set
ben’s Unmatched Pick Set

Ben even got in one more punchline to the performance. He didn’t even make a pick! He literally made it onto the podium by abstaining from participating in week three!

Lucky for us, the Vikings are giving us much to celebrate, even as teams like the Bengals continue to Amber Heard the bed.

Nevertheless, a winner is a winner, and that deserves some recognition. How about a song by the band Survivor? Party it up, Skoloholics Survival League 2024 Non-Losers! We salute you!

Bengals fans got to be frustrated. They were primed for a Super Bowl run. Then Burrows got hurt, and they had to wait a year for him to come back. Then they probably figured of being right back in the hunt.

Nope…0-3.

I would pour salt in the wound for the sake of good-natured ribbing, but I have experienced similar situations with the Vikings…

This gif reminds me of my HS graduation. On that day, a group of friends decided to go to the go-cart track in burnsville off 35 /13 (the outdoor old carnival one).
It was around 10 am, so of course we had been drinking. One of my buddies hit me, turned my cart sideways, and his cart ended up on top of my upside down cart with me underneath. Road rash galore on my shoulders and back.

We got kicked out of a carnival go cart track…..

A few years back, my friends and I would race 4 wheelers at one of the friends house. He made a 10th mile oval track and a course through the woods. Anyhow, I caught my front inside tire on a root sticking up and rolled the 4 wheeler. Another friend pulls up to make sure I was okay and he parked his 4 wheeler on my leg.

He was like are you okay? I said I would be if you hadn’t parked on me.
