It was a good finish to the preseason. We are now less than 2 weeks away from real games.

Waiver wire should be interesting this week. And, as always, FTP.

Who impressed you the most in the last preseason game?

  • Keep politics out. We are adults, news happens, and we can talk about it. What we don’t want is to go down the rabbit holes and turn a productive conversation into name calling and personal attacks.
  • Be cool to one another. Like it says above, just be civil. You don’t need to agree with everyone and that’s fine, you also don’t need to make it personal. Attack the argument not the poster.
  • Keep the NSFW to a minimum. We don’t need anyone getting in trouble at work for hanging out here.
  • All in all, be adults. Treat each other with respect and things will be fine. Mods will take out content they feel is pushing the boundary. If you want to reach out about something feel free to ask. We want to have robust discussions, that’s why we’re here. Just be civil and cool to one another.

A few notes as NFL teams let players go today:

– the vast majority of these moves will be made by releasing or waiving players. A player with 4 or more years of service is a vested veteran and thus is outright released. Those players can sign with another team ASAP. A non-vested veteran is subject to the NFL’s waiver system

– teams can also reduce their roster by keeping players on the PUP list (e.g. Nick Chubb). These players are ineligible to return to game action any sooner than Week 5

– teams will also be placing players on injured reserve. This year, a new rule is in place: teams may designate up to 2 players placed on IR at the cutdown as eligible to return (after at least 4 games missed). In prior years, a player had to be on the team’s initial 53-man roster for one business day to be eligible to return

– on Wednesday at Noon ET, the league will process waiver claims submitted on any player that was placed on waivers. The priority of the waiver claim order matches the original 2024 NFL Draft order (1. Carolina to 32. Kansas City). The waiver is a useful tool to mine for young, developmental talent

So now that Cee Dee Lamb has been signed, the Cowboys have to figure out “the rest of the story”. Parsons’ market value is estimated at around $30.6M per year, and if Prescott signs for $60M per year (he also counts for $40.13M against the cap in 2025 if he leaves Dallas), the Cowboys have to figure out a way to justify committing nearly $124M, or roughly 68% of their cap space to just three players.

Good morning all. Today is the final NFL roster cutdown day. Each team will be hoping no one poaches their practice squad candidates, and also looking to poach players from other teams. Gonna be an interesting couple of days.

Unlike a year ago, when he was rehabbing from shoulder surgery, Cook has hit the weights all offseason and says he feels the best he has in years.

The law and order discussion below is interesting.
In my business life, we had something called deterrent fees – a change for doing incorrect behavior. Little like having prison time for breaking a law.
Now, something we found out. If we lowered the change for the fee, we got more of the undesired behavior – and actually made more money as people did it more often.
Moral of story – if you want a deterrent penalty to work, being kind with penalty (less harsh) will only get you more of the undesired behavior.

We still struggle with this in Government. The rules of engagement for discipline are heavily slanted in favor of the offender. Supervisor’s have to go through hoop after hope before HR will allow actual discipline. Verbal warnings, then written documentation of events, then verbal counseling, then reporting, then further counseling, etc. At any step along the way, if the supervisor fails to give the offender every possible chance to redeem themselves, the offender can grieve the supervisor, and THEY get disciplined.

Not just government, but most all private companies suffer with this.
Was thinking more of the criminal system. If someone commits murder, and you give him a horrendous public death, you will have less murders. But, as a civilized society, this is not acceptable.
Where’s the appropriate spot to be?

Well first “deterrence” will only work on normal, rational people, and they wouldn’t normally commit murder. Thus I’m for removing such individuals from society. As Baretta said, “Don’t do the crime, if you can’t do the time”. Period.

There will always be screwed up, evil people. Don’t accommodate them.

Crazy people – I’m not sure what to do, but not something soft.
The rest, tough enough they don’t want to do it and if they do, the penalty is so hard they won’t do it againn.

We had ‘progressive discipline’.
First offense = warning.
Second offense = write up.
Third offense = Letter of reprimand.
Fourth offense = fine.
Fifth offense = lose your position, transfer to different one.

It took awhile before they got serious, and each step had to be documented so it they moved around different supervisions would often have to start the process all over again.

No longer New Vikings Fan

That’s more or less the same process, but HR would pretty consistently advise supervisors to work with the employee vice discipline them.

NFL teams will not have any more flexibility for an emergency quarterback on game days in 2024.

Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reported that the NFLPA had vetoed a rule that would have allowed teams to have an emergency 3rd quarterback on game days in 2024. The rule would have given teams the option to quarterback from their practice squads an unlimited amount of times and the players could have entered the game if all other active quarterbacks were injured.

A pedophile who was sentenced to 350 years in prison for abducting and molesting his friend’s 5-year-old daughter could be freed soon due to a woke California law.

Charles William Mix was expected to die in prison behind bars for kidnapping his roommate’s daughter and smuggling her over state lines into Utah in 2003.

“He befriended her father, gained everybody’s trust, groomed her, and then he stole a child out of her own home,” said the victim’s sister, Claira Stansbury, who was just 9 when her younger sibling was taken.

Mix could be freed under California’s progressive Elderly Parole program, which protects elderly convicts, even those responsible for such heinous crimes.

Apprehension, of dangerous suspect.
Property inherently dangerous to others.
Property related to National Security.
Lawful order.
Escape.
Self Defense.
Serious offenses against another.

Church taught me 3.

Defense, extending to myself and others being attacked.

Because the state will has and always will get it wrong at times. Then that is the state killing innocent people. There was a guy on death row for a long time who at the time of the crime committed was in court for a different situation… still found guilty. Prosecutors are typically very competitive, they just want to win. Their job is to win and get a conviction. Not serve justice.

Also, I think that old pedo dos not deserve the easy way out, which is getting killed. Or in this case I guess let out, fuck that’s horrid.

Obviously Biden ordered us to evacuate everyone overnight. All along, (after Trump reached an agreement with the Taliban to withdraw all U.S. troops by 1 May) Bagram Air Base was our choice for the evacuation site, because we could defend it. The Biden administration rejected that at the last minute, and told us to abandon Bagram, lock, stock, and barrel. It was a shitshow trying to get people to Kabul Airport. No control of the roads, or the entrance. Sitting ducks through that route. This was a tactical disaster.

They felt they owed it to their country and their units….Walz??? not so much…..

Because theres a lot of people not worthy of being thanked, as they did nothing for me or you except sit on their ass and throw our tax $$ down the drain, and they were shitty people before, during, and after their “service”. This is another argument all together. I respect and will thank those who put their lives on the line for me, and if something domestic where to happen and my name was called to actually defend my country here, I would do it, regardless of age. In his 2006 campaign for Congress, Walz boasted “that in 1993, he ‘was named the Outstanding Young Nebraskan by the Nebraska Chamber of Commerce for his service in the education, military, and small business communities.’”

But he wasn’t.

The Nebraska Chamber of Commerce wrote him a letter asking him to stop making this false claim, and… they were endorsing his opponent that year.

The fact that he is a communist isn’t getting enough play…

As a high school teacher in the 1990s, Democratic vice presidential candidate and Minnesota governor Tim Walz appeared to extol life under Chinese communism, telling his students that it is a system in which “everyone shares” and gets free food and housing.

“It means that everyone is the same and everyone shares,” Walz said during a lesson on China’s communist system in November 1991. “The doctor and the construction worker make the same. The Chinese government and the place they work for provide housing and 14 kg or about 30 pounds of rice per month. They get food and housing.”

Walz’s remarks were reported in a 1991 article in Nebraska’s Alliance Times-Herald that focused on his work on student exchange programs in China.

Yeah! I am sure you hold Trump to every action and words he said in the 80s and 90s too right?

I am not saying to not hold shit against Walz, I DO NOT LIKE Walz but it gets so old watching you guys (by you guys I mean Pubs and Dems) hold the people of your party to completely different standards. Trump has said incredibly stupid things, including dumb things about politics, policies, stance. But you grasp onto this thing Walz said from over 30 years ago and make the absurd jump to say that is 100% who he is today and that this one snippet means he is totally a communist.

But Trump says:
“A question that probably some of you are thinking of if you’re totally into that world, which I find to be very interesting. So, supposedly we hit the body with a tremendous, whether it’s ultraviolet or just very powerful light, and I think you said that hasn’t been checked, but you’re going to test it. And then I said supposing you brought the light inside the body, which you can do either through the skin or in some other way. (To Bryan) And I think you said you’re going to test that, too. Sounds interesting, right?”

He continued.

“And then I see the disinfectant, where it knocks it out in one minute. And is there a way we can do something like that, by injection inside or almost a cleaning, because you see it gets in the lungs and it does a tremendous number on the lungs, so it’d be interesting to check that, so that you’re going to have to use medical doctors with, but it sounds interesting to me. So, we’ll see, but the whole concept of the light, the way it kills it in one minute. That’s pretty powerful.”

Watch, you will all disregard what Trump said even though it is INCREDIBLY stupid. I disregard this too. I do, it’s classic dumb dumb Trump riffing to riff because he does that. If you sat him down and said do you really think you can inject light or people should be injected with bleach he’d say no. But give the same regard to Walz, play by the same rules. Walz could be a communist, but by holding him to being a Communist from some snippet he said 30+ years ago is about the same leap to say Donald Trump wants to commit genocide on Americans via disinfectant injections.

Thank you for posting his statement in its entirety.

I watched that particular press conference live. I have to say I have zero problem with his statements at that conference, whether when it was live or the transcript of the event.

A lot of people were dying at the time. The president had to give some hope to the populace, and this was an off the cuff presentation he gave. To be clear, I don’t look to the executive branch for medical advice. I do expect the executive to green light all sorts of trials and medical resources in the pandemic. He clearly states that “you’re going to test that too” and “you’re going to have to use medical doctors with (that)”.

Cine looked good this pre-season better than he has but that’s a low bar. I don’t see Risner getting cut. They know who he is, so why bring him in late and then cut him?

as i know most of you are waiting with bated breath for my state fair food reviews….sit down, buckle up and enjoy:

we got to the fair around 7:45am, i usually park close to the fair and pay $20, but they raised the prices this year to $30, and that was just OUTRAGEOUS to me in the moment. I laugh now thinking, as if an extra $10 is that big a deal, but hey….it’s a mini donut or a cheese curd, so it was a big deal.
We parked at a church who was accepting “donations” to park. so i gave them $20 and was on my way.

our first food was some mini cinnamon rolls, the kids LOVED them, and i thought they were tasty. since my wife is gluten free, she had a bite but couldn’t eat alot of the fair food. Also got a coffee with a scoop of vanilla ice cream in it. if you haven’t tried that before, it’s DELICIOUS.

Walked around a while, the kids wanted deep friend pickles…i HATE pickles, but love my kids, so gave in and got them that.
Did the home depot kids craft, walked around the minnesota shops section, did the dogs/cats center thing (kinda boring but the kids liked it, it’s essentially the history of house dogs and cats and all that they can do etc idk i dind’t pay that close attention)

stopped at the butterfly house, the kids and wife went in there and had a blast. pretty good deal for $4 a person, kids LOVED it.
Did a couple kids rides, walked towards the DNR building and stopped for Cheesecurds at the mouth trap in the food building. I also got a Wild Rice cheese burger, a staple for me. Love that thing. And then got mini donuts as well.

the DNR building was a blast. the kids watched the fish in the big pond for at least 20 minutes. the building was fun, got to see all sorts of different habitats for streams, ponds, lakes and the fish that are in those. Went up the big fire watch station. played games and shot a fire hose at fake fire etc…

lost a kid at the miracle of birth building for a little bit, NBD, happens to the best of us.

Went to the international bizarre, almost lost the kids again.

stopped at the skol tent, got excited for the vikings yet again.

kids got big soft pretzels, i got deep friend peanut butter cups

buzzed out of there at 2:30pm. long enough day 7:45-2:30.

Didn’t try anything new, it’s tough to venture too much out of the ordinary with the kiddos, but they had a blast and it was a great day overall.

Thanks for the info! I thought their app or whatever said food venders start at 9 am, so I was thinking get there by 9:30/10ish. From your write up looks like they start serving earlier? Because the earlier you can get there the better right?

most didn’t open until 9. most the “breakfasty” type places were already open.

one of the most popular was an “amish donut” i think it was. there were probably 300 people in line for that at 8am. i asked someone who just got it if it was worth the wait. they said it was like a bigger krispy kreme donut. not worth the wait IMO

The ice cream in the coffee sounds good. I told my sister about it, since we start the day with two cups of coffee each. She’s all in. Guess a trip to the store for some vanilla ice cream is in my near future (i.e. today).

if you get there early enough, you can find free parking on the streets around the fair…

i paid $20 to park.

they also have city buses that are free of charge, you can park at the designated lots (usually churches in the area allow parking in their lot for the bus pick ups, some schools etc) and then you can take the bus there. But i’m not up for public transportation when i’m bringing the 3 kiddos with me.
