Vikings news

From ESPN, a bold move for the Vikings:

Trade Justin Jefferson:

This would truly be a bold move because Jefferson is a great receiver. This suggestion is not to belittle Jefferson’s abilities. He has ranked in the top 12 for wide receiver DVOA in all four of his NFL seasons, and he was in the top three for total value in his three healthy seasons (i.e. not 2023).

However, Jefferson’s salary just ballooned to $19.7 million because of his fifth-year option in 2024, and it’s going to be higher than that if the Vikings can sign him to a long-term extension. He is also making noise that he wants to know the team’s future quarterback plans before he signs that extension. He probably wants Kirk Cousins back. Cousins had one of his best half-seasons in 2023, but giving him another long-term deal at age 35 might not be the best decision for Minnesota’s future.

So why not just go for a total reset? Trade Jefferson for a couple of high draft picks. Use one of them to draft his replacement, the same way the Vikings traded away Stefon Diggs and used the pick they got in return to draft Jefferson. Perhaps that pick can be used on a young quarterback, or to trade up for a better young quarterback.

Meanwhile, shaving Cousins and Jefferson off the team’s salary ledger will allow the Vikings to sign a number of free agents to improve other positions, building a team that’s ready to compete once they figure out their quarterback situation (presumably with a youngster in either 2024 or 2025).

Per Charlie Walter of the Pioneer Press, The Vikings want to trade up for Jayden Daniels and may make JJ available in a trade

Vikings reportedly will engage in extension talks with Kirk at the combine

QOTD

If the Vikings were to trade JJ, where would make the most sense?

If Cousins walks, and the Vikings want to bring in a “Bridge QB”, who should they consider?

We’ve discussed Russell Wilson, but who else might KAM consider? Here are some guys that might be on his list:

Free agents: Joshua Dobbs, Vikings; Jacoby Brissett, Commanders; Joe Flacco, Browns; Baker Mayfield, Buccaneers; Gardner Minshew, Colts; Ryan Tannehill, Titans; Jameis Winston, Saints

Possibly available: Jimmy Garoppolo, Raiders

Anyone stir your interest?

None are better than Mullins, none know the offense (Mullins does), all will cost (Mullins already on the roster). We just have to teach Mullins to only throw 1 or 2 interceptions a game.

Now can we stop asking this silly question. (almost as stupid as the Wilson discussion).

Mullins 7 TDs, 1306 yds, 67.6% completion in 4+ games.

I already addressed the turnovers need to come down.

I believe KAM would entertain trade offers. JJ will count $19.7M against the cap this year playing on his 5th year option. That’s a chunk of change, and as we know, he is looking for $30M or more a year starting in 2025. If a team offers a couple first round picks for him, KAM might just do it.

I’m a simple fan – no GM. So look at it this way viewing the team.
Defense – not very good
Special teams – blah
Running game – not very good
Screen game – not very good.
The only real strength is our passing game. And that generally centers around Kirk and JJ. So we let Kirk go, and now trade JJ – WTH!
Any other good players to let go or trade. Sort of start as an expansion team or something – clean slate.

KAM might just think it’s time to take the plunge. Fix all the dead money issues, get fiscally strong, draft some studs, add some cheap vets, and see where 2024 goes. 2025 then becomes the benchmark season for him and KOC.

I love my crocs. Last week I got another barium bath after the retention tip popped out, got my crocs all nice and white, just slipped ’em off after the enema and washed them by hand in the sink. Today had some leaking on a cystogram, got some Isovue/”pee” on my crocs, ditto.

Started working on my taxes this weekend, such joy. Believe it or not, my employer miscalculated withholding a few times last year and underpaid my taxes. They doubled down by giving me a goofy letter asking the IRS to not penalize me for their mistake. I’m sure the IRS will be suitably impressed and will not penalize me.

In the likely event the IRS chooses to penalize me, I’m going to turn right around and ask my employer to pay the penalty. Wish me luck.

There was an article that provided this hypothetical package which could be sufficient to move from #11 to #3, based on previous examples.

Vikings get:

– 2024 first-round pick (No. 3 overall)

Patriots get:

– 2024 first-round pick (No. 11 overall)

– 2025 first-round pick

– 2026 first-round pick

– 2024 fourth-round pick (No. 109)

If you throw JJ into this mix, how many draft picks are erased?

BTW microwave popcorn is responsible for more smoke alarms in a hospital than all other etiologies combined. Usually have the door to my office slam shut about once a week because of a fire alarm related to microwave popcorn. I pulled the back seats out of my Bronco yesterday to put in a flat floor for the doggos to ride. I needed a T40 Torx bit for the seatbelt part and had to run down to my wife’s ex place to borrow the bit. While I was there, he needed my help catching and carrying two calves that were refusing to cross the creek to where their mothers were grazing.

I felt like Rip Wheeler carrying one of those little dogies over my shoulders across the creek. They are heavier than they look!

I’m always shocked at how quickly a cow can cover ground. They can run almost as fast as a dog when they feel like it. When I picked up the calf, the mother was sniffing next to me but she ran off as I started walking. All was well until I set the calf down, at which point it bleated and started running away from me. I heard a splash and that momma was across the creek and bearing down on me faster than I could run, so I yelled at her and waved my arms and she broke off about ten feet away and made a beeline to her calf.

Who tried convincing me that Republican representatives don’t support violence? Best part was I could have went and found facts to the contrary but it’s like naw… They’ll prove that wrong as both sides as usual are two wings of the same nut. Both sides support violence as long as they think it’ll get em votes… Fuck this guy and proof of why there has to be a separation of church and state.

That post is saying he is speaking about a 16 year old “murder victim”.

Thought that there were videos showing that person was fine and coherent while complaining to police, and that “victim” initiated the violence by throwing water at the verbal bullies, then things escalated. In other words, none of the people involved are innocent. Including the dead one.

You guys are missing the point and it’s absolutely disgusting. Weather it was a 2 minute or 2 second fight, weather the kid died from the fight or not is NOT the point. If this politician had made that his point of the details are blurry and such then fine. But his response was, I and this state support getting rid of filth via murder. This was HIS response, he referred to these people as filth. Fuck, this guy. This “Christian” calling people filth needs to actually read the New Testament and realize that the thing repeated the most about what pisses god off and brings his wrath is religious hypocrites.

My wife has gotten into the probiotic craze and asked me if I could start a culture of kefir, given my microbiology (and micropenis) background. At first I was rather dubious as the first couple of culture cycles revealed what looked like curdled milk to me. However, I persisted, increasing the culture size sequentially, and now have a robust culture of kefir “grains” that looks like cottage cheese, enough to transform four cups of milk into kefir.

I kept the kefir cycles as I scaled up, and have a quart bottle of those batches. They are much more sour tasting than the all grown up version and my wife prefers the mature version. Being loathe to toss out all that good stuff I feel obligated to drink the young batches and you have to toss them down like taking a triple shot of whiskey.

Bottom line this stuff makes you fart like crazy but there is no smell whatsoever.

I think beyond the Kirk and JJ contract decisions, the Vikings have other messes to clean up. The O-line is a good example. Four of the five starters who finished in 2023 are scheduled to return. Dalton Risner is the odd man out, leaving the Vikings needing to decide who their starting left guard will be. In addition, David Quessenberry, Chris Reed, Oli Udoh, Austin Schlottmann, Hakeem Adeniji, and Blake Brandel are all pending free agents, so seven guys we had on contract last year have to be re-signed, or replaced. Personally, I think we still need two big, mean ass guards, and a new center. That whole interior O-line continues to be a huge weakness.

A couple of weeks ago Zeph was going through a rough stretch. Some inexperienced doctors put him on some meds that caused some issues with him eating and with his liver. Once the main doctor got back, he straightened that out and he is doing much better. Last week was the end of the second cycle of treatment. On Thursday afternoon I received a one word text from my son. Remission. Needless to say, there was much rejoicing. We can tell the little dude is feeling much better because when we video chatted with them that evening, he was being quite boisterous in the background.

The journey is not over however. Remission means that the cancer cells are less than 5%, but there are some. So there will be one more round of chemo and then they will be moving on to the bone marrow transplant. They have found several 100% matches for him in the bone marrow bank, so now they just need to narrow it down to which one they think will be the best. That is a long process because once they do the transplant, then they have to check him for 4 to 8 months to make sure that it is working.

Thank you for all of your thoughts and prayers.

On Saturday we were video chatting with his mom and he was standing up in his bed twirling his glasses over his head. She turned the camera back to herself as we continued to talk and all of a sudden something zoomed across the screen. He had thrown his glasses across the room just over her head. He is definitely getting back to his normal boy behavior. I call him delightfully weird.

I’m not an expert either, but I believe with the next round of chemo and then the irradiation before the bone marrow transplant, that all of the cancer cells will be eradicated. And with the new bone marrow, his body should stop producing the cancer cells.

It is great news. My DIL has been living at the hospital with her son. They have a bed in the room for her to sleep and a shower in the bathroom, plus she has been eating most of her meals there. Living with this for over two months and seeing low and low after low with barely any highs, it has worn on her. When the doctor came in with the results that showed remission her questions was, “Is this something I can be happy about?” They reassured her that yes, this is something to be happy about.

We weren’t allowed to stay in the room with our daughter.
She was an adult and not a child though.

Drove 3 hours everyday RT for about 2 months

His immune system is still compromised, so it will depend on how well that rebounds. They may get to go home for a week, but then they will be right back there for the next round of chemo.

Spotrac says his market value is $39.3 avg annual. I’m not sure how it’s figured out or how close they normally are on contracts but they’re saying 3 years, $118 mill.

Denver is another option

An AFC team.
The overall issue is that JJ would also have to be accommodating for a trade.
