Holy crap, Hrbert’s deal! This puts a bit of stress on the Vikings’ long-term decision at quarterback. What will they decide to do with Kirk? If they want to try to re-sign him, this has to make his price tag much higher than it would have been a couple months ago. If they are intending to move on with somoene other than Mullens, then they’d better get busy finding him.
If they don’t extend Cousins, then they’ll be heading into the draft with an obvious gaping hole at the game’s most important position. That isn’t a great position to be in, the Vikings tried that in 2011 and as you’ll recall, it didn’t go so well, although it did provide us with this gif.

I was going to post this below but if I am doing real math I need to post it where there is a chance it might be read.
We have had Cousins 5 years now and have not made it to the NFC championship game. Every year we would have a theoretical 1 in 8 chance of making it.
The theoretical probability of us going 0 for 5 when we have a 1 in 8 yearly chance is 51.3%.
If we miss the NFC championship game this year that stat is 44.9%.
So up until this year, the statistics would have slightly favored us NOT making an NFC championship game.
Might be interesting only to me…I try to view the world objectively….
Now, the Cousins detractors would point out he has been in the NFC 11 seasons and is 0 for 11 in making the championship game, the theoretical odds of that happening are 23%. But Washington is and was a dumpster fire so I don’t pay that much attention.

If we win and Kirk did good , Kirk sucked but rest of team dominated that’s why we won. We lose and Kirk does well, all Kirks fault. Rest of team is blameless

Three weeks ago I mentioned my old F-150 was making a popping and grinding noise in the front end, I thought it might be the CV joint. The stealer mechanic diagnosed the problem as “the vacuum lines to the IWE were chewed away” (not sure what chewed them away) and replaced the vacuum lines and it works great again. Engine vacuum and check solenoids keep the front hubs of the 4WD system from engaging. So the noise I heard was the system engaging as vacuum was lost. That’s why god made mechanics.
I installed a mesh of 5 TP-Link routers to carry wifi out to my shop as well as the new addition. They are working fine so far (obviously the new addition isn’t complete so I haven’t fully tested). I did have to put the router in the main shouse shop in the window so it could talk to the one in the metal shop 40 feet away and get “weak” signal but it is enough to talk to the generator (which essentially sends text messages), a Ring floodlight camera I mounted, and my phone so I can stream YT videos and music. Incredibly I did not lose my temper during the install it was very easy. Now getting the generator to log in to the wifi was a bigger problem, got to spend 90 minutes on hold with a very helpful generac girl who had me putting in IP address numbers – that was not in the setup manual.

I was learning about Doug Atkins, Hardy Brown and Sammy Baugh as a youngster. Early fuel for my love of the game.
Well if you like just plain toughness (and meanness), watch some film of Dick Butkus. Mike Cutis of the Colts was right there too.
Very aware of both – Butkus was a monster. The tape on Mike Curtis is as violent as you’ll see – especially when he leveled a fan who ran on the field. I’ve got hundreds of hours of footage from that era – wife spent good money to have it all moved to DVD a few years ago for my Christmas gift.
I picked Too Tall and Atkins based on similar heights and positions. Mainly the height. And both were bad dudes on the field.

I can lift a bucket about 8 feet in the air.
When you’re extended 100+ feet in the air in a bucket, and a breeze blows through and makes the bucket sway, you get a true test of how tight your butt hole can squeeze shut.
I always picture the lift turning into a catapult. I can tell myself over and over that physics says I’m more likely to go straight down but the image of getting launched always sticks with me.

Incorrect. KOC was not brought there to pair Kirk and JJ at the hip forever. He was here to coach up and see what we could get out of Kirk, that experiment was last season. He was brought in to bring in the QB of the future and an actual franchise QB hand pick him and mold him. This idea that he was brought in to just mirror what the Rams do is just false, he might take parts of their offense with him but he’s not here to do a player for player copy of the team.
Of course it wasn’t just player by player. And certainly he would have to groom a replacement QB.
It was broader. After Zimmer.more offense. And regardless of QB, you can’t have the two worst pass blocking guards in the league in you plan to pass much.
Agreed. Although blindside pressure is always worse, pressure up the middle is basically neck and neck with ruining an offense thats going to be a problem regardless. Will be much easier to get talent there with a Rookie QB cap hit.

I have a feeling that KAM will be a good GM. He is a numbers guy and evaluates players based on performance. I could see him not hanging onto players too long i.e. Thielen, Kendricks, Barr. I know many will say our defense declined due to Cousins contract, which does have some validity to it, but our defense declined more so because we held onto players that had regressed and didn’t replace them with draft picks sooner.
How many of the defensive draft picks over the last 5 years have panned out?

A minority opinion. We play in the NFC. The playoff teams to beat are the Cowboys, Eagles, and 49ers. All of those teams have plenty of players that bring their big boy pants to the games. We can’t match up. Has he drafted one player to help us deal with the power of those teams.

I’m neither but would be fine with moving on. Cousins is a good QB, but I was ready for them to draft somebody, as I laid out multiple times, for the future as Cousins is at the back end of his career. They should have also signed or traded for somebody young with an outside chance of being at least a serviceable backup unlike Mullens. With the fail rate of young QBs they should be throwing those darts now and it would have kept more leverage on the team’s side. If they extend him, fine, as long as it’s a reasonable contract. If he retires, good for him, work on those grilling skills. Other than that most of what I say about Cousins is just to rile people up.
It is annoying. But, I hated Kirk at first, now I like don’t love Kirk. He’s fine, but really I just don’t see the point in doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. Lifer has flip flopped on Kirk several times so some people do switch.

I agree with JR that the “experiment” label isn’t appropriate. The Vikings brought Cousins in, and he has produced at a higher rate than any QB in Vikings history. They got what they paid for from my perspective. They brought in many other players who were/are not very good. This is the problem with the team.

In my opinion, that’s too far. The 2019 team was good and beat a better Saints team.They got trashed by the 49ers but so did the Packers the next week by the niners. And that niner defense gave it to Mahomes for 3 quarters. Would have won if Jimmy G could throw a deep ball.

The problem is, this is faulty logic Ben. Cousins has been the most consistently good player on the team since 2018. So the “experiment” failed? No. Rather the Vikings brought in a top quality QB that has produced at a consistently high rate. The failure with the Vikings has been their draft selections since Cousins got here. They invested draft selections on a Center with a first round pick who was bad for many seasons. They hit on O’Neill and Darrisaw, but the many interior line selections to date have not resulted in O-line improvement. The DB’s they’ve drafted have not worked out either. Just in general the people they have brought in have not really made a difference.
Cousins is departing the station after this year and we can all see what happens after that. I’m hopeful KAM can find someone very good to play QB for this team.
