Another crazy day yesterday for me as I was traveling the wild and wooly two-lane highways of North Dakota. I took off from the job I was doing a little past noon because the storm was worsening. I’m glad I did, because there was no travel advised not long after I got home. I’m almost completely moved into the shop, just a few more things to bring over.
The Vikings head east to Entitled Town to take on the division rival Packers. The Vikings and Packers are going in two different directions. The Vikings are coming off of what was probably their most complete game and best team win in quite some time, while the Packers just lost to one of the worst teams in the NFL. The Vikings started slow but seem to be getting their footing while the Packers started off 2-1 but have lost their last 3.

I read recently that the younger generation, people in 20’s and early 30’s, consider holloween the number 1 holiday. Rather celebrate it than an others.
Interesting you would say that….My Son’s Girlfriend (met at college, from Arizona, not a Midwesterner so we are suspicious) has said over and over again how Halloween is her favorite holiday…we think that is a little strange.
In all honesty we think she is great…don’t get the Halloween thing though.
Had a co-worker that was due to come back from Workman’s Comp decided to stay out another week as Halloween was coming up.
He said Halloween was ‘his holiday’ so he needed to make sure he was off work for it.
I thought it strange at the time, a Millennial type thing.
So this information is actually a relief to me…it means she isn’t really strange but its just a younger generation thing.
Don;t know where you’re at, but here in Florida and when i was, in DC, these people go all out. Houses are more decorated than Xmas and the costumes the adults wear are unbelievable – like movie characters.

In Calif I suspect that you can find Halloween crowds if you want. 70-80% seem to ignore it for the most part.
The Teacher decorates a bit and dresses with Halloween accents. But she is a 1st grade teacher so is more in touch with the holidays.

Thanksgiving is easily my favorite Holiday, followed by the 4th, followed by Christmas.
Whatever holiday gets the family together is my favorite these days.

The Teacher hated ‘gift season’ as all her kid and their significant others birthdays all got grouped up between Thanksgiving and New Years.
Once I taught her to give what she wanted to give them instant of trying to figure what they wanted she found it much more fun.

My wife loves both holidays, but we face a new problem. we have 3 kids and they have all recently gotten married and we now have to split time with other families – Moma is not a happy camper.
see my post below…you need to pick either Thanksgiving or Christmas for your family to gather and the other one needs to be for the spouses family…You have to do it…yes you are giving up 1 holiday, but it really worked well for us.
I will gradually get my wife there, but probable not this year.

Yes, that gets difficult…on my side of the family (6 siblings) we made a pact that Thanksgiving would be for our side to gather….Christmas for the spouses side to gather. This has worked very very well…but everyone on your side needs to agree.

I posted a weekend thread 2 weekends ago and then was hunting Saturday last weekend so didn’t get one up until Sunday morning. The new tradition is the Valhalla song I used on both. My nephews were adopted as toddlers so not circumcised. When the family discussed having it done I told my nephews ‘after I was circumcised I could walk for a year’.
They were then terrified of circumcisions until about 6-7 yrs later they figured out that most curcumcisions happened at birth and kids did not normally start walking until they were 1 year old.
Dad jokes are the best when ‘marinate’ for a few years.

I have shared before, when I was young dumb in the 70s…the Vikings where consistently kicking the Packers and Bears assess (as opposed to eating them, Ben)….I used to feel sorry them…not anymore. Every game they lose is like a ray of sunshine.

We both really hate shopping, but too much standing on 4 days of outings with the grands. That did include one day of taking them shopping for clothes, which was fun, but was 3 hours of standing, playground on another day, and yesterday an indoor amusement park, more standing. Did have a neighbor’s kid visit for 3 hours one day, total chaos, but at least not much standing, haha!
I was also on my feet pretty much all day Saturday, the day of the party.
Lots of standing, but I suspect you enjoyed it anyway.

Other teams in recent history to finish the season with 0 rushing TDs. Does not bode well for our record. However, I believe the run game improves 2nd half of the season and we get back to average. Also believe we get our first rush TD on Sunday.

Miami had 4 rushing TD’s in 2017. The first one was week 10.
But I get the point that starting the year with zero rushing TD’s doesn’t bode well for the overall season record.
St Louis Rams had 10 rushing TD’s in 2013, not zero.

I was fine letting him walk due to his cap hit. I thought Mattison would have been better. Last year Mattison had 5 TDs and zero fumbles and an average PFF of 71.
PFF is 57, and he’s struggling.
Mattison, KJ and Hock Playing below last year’s level is a big reason we aren’t 5-2 right now.

Agree on the washed up and no burst…thought that last year. Guys think if the 40 time is close to their college 40 they haven’t declined…but what is their 3 cone time? what is their 10 yard split on their 40? Burst is soo much more important than speed.
And being able to see the hole and cut correctly. Older backs seem to lose some of the vision thing. Lots of bad cut backs last year.
Yes, that’s surprising. Like golf, I have read that one of the skills that decline as you age is your putting ability. Why the hell would that happen???? Must be something about the brain not interpreting spatial relationships as well as we age.
I know I stop less and less line drives at me pitching every year. I definitely feel like my reactions are slower. Not noticeable in everyday life but when things are that quick there is definitely a difference.
No question about it..the reaction time diminishes.

Last year SI had an article showing he was at or near the bottom of most advanced metrics.
One or two is an anomaly. This was pretty accurate predicting his decline.
I saw that. Guys can lose it seemingly overnight. The 80 yard run against Buffalo last year showed the 4.4 speed. The 50 yarder against Miami showed the burst – one quick jump-cut and he put his foot in the ground and got north/south in a hurry. Haven’t seen that this year.

Out of 36 running backs with at least 130 carries this season, Cook ranked dead last in rushing yards over expected. According to Pro Football Focus, he gained nearly 200 yards fewer than an average running back would’ve been expected to gain on his carries based on down, distance, yard line, defensive alignment, and offensive line grades.
That’s just one metric that involves some level of subjectivity, but it’s hard to find any advanced statistics that paint Cook’s season in a positive light. He ranked 36th out of 42 backs with at least 100 carries in Football Outsiders’ DYAR (Defense-adjusted Yards Above Replacement) and 33rd in PFF rushing grade. As a team, the Vikings ranked 28th in rushing DVOA and 29th in EPA per rush.
The pattern has continued into this year. Maybe he could have a resurgence on the VIkings, but he wanted to be PAID, and it isn’t working.
Sucks since he was a fan favorite here.

Gerhart sucked, so does Cook now. He’s had 109 carries on the year and Hall is averaging 6.5 ypc behind the same line. Cook sucks and is washed. The end.

Vikings currently hold a wildcard space. Personally, I’m not overly impressed with the NFC this year. I could see the Vikings going on a run and making some noise. On the flip side, I could see them continuing with the dropped passes/fumbles and the general dumbfuckery we have seen in the first part of the season.

Last year we weren’t really all that competitive against real good teams.
We have played 3 of the 4 teams in last year’s championship games. 1 -2. Last year would have been 0-3. We’ve hung a lot better with the best, even with all the turnovers.
The week 18 game vs Lions will decide the division winner, and the Vikings will either win and be one and done in the playoffs, or they will repeat 2018 and not show up and miss the playoffs completely because of some obscure tie breaker.

Trade proposals in Fantasy are an interesting window into how two people can look at the same thing and value it completely differently. I purposed a very simple trade in one league that had me actually giving up the higher trade assets and he rejected it, I countered with an even SWEETER deal, added another player, and he countered with a crazy offer. I just wanted Joe Burrow off his bench, he has Kirk to carry him through the rest of the year and he wanted Bijon and a top 20 WR off my roster for Burrow, Dionte Johnson and Mattison. I dont want those players, I just want Burrow. And was willing to give up D Smith and J Williams. More than a fair trade for them.
Now again this morning in another league someone wants to give me multiple garbage players for one of my only good starting RBs…like come on, its a little insulting at this point.
Sometimes those trade offers are indeed a little insulting. I generally take the high road and just say thanks but no thanks…what I really want to say is “ARE YOU KIDDING ME???”

IF you have a 20 point QB and an 18 point QB on your roster, but two WR’s that only get 6. You’ve now gained yourself 6 points/week.
Conversely if other team as 15 point QB and 4 10 point WR’s, he’s/she’s just gained him/herself 5 points/week.
It rarely works out that way because folks hate giving up big-time players, for good reason, but circumstances can sure warrant the proposal.
There’s a guy in one of my leagues that will only propose 2 for 1 trades and he always is giving up 2. Not beneficially to who he is trying to trade with. It is always the logic, well these 2 guys score the same as the 1 I want so it’s fair. For example, I had lots of running backs and needed a WR a couple weeks ago. He asked about 2 for 1 and I said no unless I was giving 2. He offered Zach Moss and Amari Cooper for Jonathon Taylor. I had Taylor.

After Addison’s game Monday night I inquired to his owner about a trade – I’ve got the roster and draft capital to acquire just about anyone. He came back with wanting Puka and 2 1st round picks…. Knows I’m a Vikings fan (I also have JJ) and is overplaying his hand. I told him get fucked and then posted the offer on the Sleeper message board. As you ponder this you continue to drive and then look up and see you are in the Dakotas. If you take it out and set it on the ground, you will have a board on a plain. If you take it and board a plane, then you will have a board on a plane. I wonder, will they let you plane a board on a plane? When you get to your destination and you decide to carve something beautiful out of it and as you look at the beautiful creation, would the piece of wood give you peace? If you were to carve it to look like a small yellow flying insect with a stinger and then give it to Opie’s female relative, would the wood be a bee for Aunt Bea? Finally, if you were to decide to hang it on the wall and got your drill out to make a hole for the wall anchor, you would end up with a bored board. Just do not drill the whole hole in the knot as that may caused problems. After this long MT like post you may find that the wood is just not very enthused, would you then have a bored bored board? Would that be better than a boar?
