Vikings Discussion and Random Thoughts
Hey everyone! My apologies for neglecting to post the thread yesterday, life got in the way. I was too tired on Wednesday night, so I planned to get up & post it yesterday morning. I remembered to get up, but I didn’t remember to post the thread. Whoops.
We’re sitting here watching the Underwear Olympics. We’re liking what we see from CJ West, he’s one of the guys who we thought was impressive. I looked up more on him, and he has a pretty cool story. Here’s more about him from Hoosier State of Mind. There were a few other guys who flashed during some of the workouts, but that was one of the under the radar guys who stood out as we watched.

The Star-Tribune thinks that the lack of QB options available this year could lead to Darnold’s departure from the Vikings.

Thread Guidelines
- Keep politics to a minimum. We are adults, news happens, and we can talk about it. What we don’t want is to go down rabbit holes and turn a productive conversation into name calling and personal attacks.
- Be respectful and civil. You don’t need to agree with everyone, you also don’t need to make it personal. Attack the argument, not the poster.
- Keep the NSFW language/pictures to a minimum. We don’t want anyone getting in trouble at work for hanging out here.
- To summarize, behave like adults. Treat each other with respect, and things will be fine. Mods will take out content they feel is pushing the boundary. If you want to reach out about something, please do. We want to have robust discussions, that’s why we’re here, just be civil.
- Twitter sized version: Be cool to one another.
In some places it is.
Doesn’t seem like this is one of those places.
Sorry, I had things to do this morning. Actually just turned the computer on.
We a had a leap Thursday and now a leap weekend.
The calendar is a nebulas concept.
God exists outside of Time, why can’t we?
Can we ignore time if time won’t ignore us??
Yeah, more Friday!
Video of Zelenskyy, Trump and Vance. Good tv.
Fun to watch, great sitcom. All the actors were on point and played their respective roles very well. Good entertainment.
Have a great weekend y’all, drive fast and take chances
73 in a 55?
The Teacher drove back from the base today.
She choose the 2 lane hwy route.
She drove fast when she could and slowed down when she needed to.
She is much smarter than me.
I accelerate to create space then calm. Sounds like Teacher is ok.
Played in the first round of a team golf tournament today. We’re tied for second after shooting a 62. I hit a lot of solid shots, with three approach shots within 5 feet of the hole. Hit the ball nice and straight off the tee, letting the power guys take a rip at the ball. These guys were hitting it 270 pretty consistently. Great day. Tomorrow, we hope to win it.
I just got another speeding ticket. Lesson: I really really need to buy a radar detector.
+5 is my rule of thumb.
This one was my fault, I thought it was a 65 zone and it was 55. I was doing 73.
Was this passing through one of those small towns?
No, was on Highway 85 south of Williston.
I hate driving on that road
Oh!
BIG IF TRUE!!!
Yep, it would certainly help our draft pick situation
could we get a 2and 4 from Tennessee?
Rick would ask for 5 7ths
That would be nice. Purple will let Sam walk anyways. WE have FA’s and holes to fill.
And only 3 draft picks
I can see a draft and trade. Maybe teams don’t want to get in a bidding war if he’s a true FA. My question can you solidify and agreement before hand?
So that means we’ll get something for him? Would be nice.
Why would Darnold agree to this when he could sign on his own in 11 days?
To do the Vikings a solid?
To simplify the process for him as it could all be worked out in advance?
Because Vikings Fans really want him to?
Plus the Vikings could do it without Sams agreement, him being involved helps get what he wants, team, price, length, guarantees.
Stafford staying in LA.
Good.
Less ‘Stafford to the Vikings’ stories is a good thing.
The click bait journalists must be pissed
They will find other stories to hype/make up.
Don’t worry about them too much.
I must say, loved Stafford since Detroit took him number 1. As vikes fans we’ve seen a lot of him. He’s a great qb and tough as nails. Never misses a game. I’m ready for the JJ era, but wouldn’t have been disappointed to see Matthew end his career as a viking. KOC was his OC when the rams won it all, and he might have been the guy that could’ve gotten it done for us.
Finally Friday… yeah
The Trump-Vance-Zelenshky argument on live TV is much watch TV.
https://www.foxnews.com/politics/trump-vance-zelenskyy-spar-over-russian-war-tense-exchange-very-disrespectful
That was a hoot…
Trump to Zelensky: “Don’t you be fucking telling me what the U.S. is going ‘feel’ get the hell out of here with that bullshit”.
Its about time.
58 & sunny yesterday. Kiddo & I went running & shorts & shirts.
I’m pretty sure I haven’t seen a day in February that warm in my lifetime.
I have not doubt you could cast a magic spell on your new magic device (computer) and find that information out.
Iffen you were curious enough.
I probably could. Probably, I’m not going to though.
I actually made a half hearted attempt, but couldn’t find the annual highs per month per year
With a little more effort, I can probably find it.
Avg high for Feb 27.8 F.
https://www.extremeweatherwatch.com/cities/bismarck/month-february
Bismarck high temp record for Feb.
73 °F February 27, 2016
Oh wow, I was incorrect
Global Warming at it’s best.
I vividly remember early 1980s playing out door basketball and the temp was in the upper 70s.
Record high for Minot in February is 66
Jokes on you, I didn’t live in Minot then.
You were in Surry?
That happens in Alberta frequently this time of year with chinooks.
I rode on a Chinook once
I love the way those sound, can hear ’em coming miles away.
My room in the barracks at Fort Lewis was about a block away from the air field. Car alarms in the parking lot were always going off.
We called them shit hooks
I think this falls into the “duh” category….
Unless they can ‘Tag and Trade’ him I am good with that.
They probably haven’t found a dance partner who would commit to the trade part.
And the Kumbaya Crew would want Sam to agree to it.
Which would be a major complication.
Vikings don’t like the dude from Washington.
Cross off another possibility.
I don’t think he’s the type of person that they’re looking for. He has the talent, but it’s not all about the talent gotta be a fit for the team.
What is the backstory?
I’m not really sure, he just seems constantly disgruntled.
Seems more of a me first guy
Trade = giving up picks for him and then having to sign him to a new deal next year.
Plus I understand that he is a bit of a head case, although that might just be the narrative the Redskins are pushing.
Yeah, you never know. That’s the same impression I got, though.
Trey Smith has been tagged by the Chiefs.
One less guard in FA.
Since I am being DOGED down to 60 percent effective Monday, I wanted to warn you all I may not be posting as often, you may have to make do with fewer of my keen observations.
Currently I have work that keeps me occupied for about 60 percent of the work day, I spend 20 percent BSing with coworkers and 20 percent surfing the net and commenting here.
Come Monday, when I am at the office I will actually have to be working pretty much the whole time I am in. God knows I do not want to post to Skoloholics on my private time.
I remember way back in the day when I was working for a company that had several sister companies. My boss, the CFO, created a formula for inter-company billing for time when someone did some work for a sister company. Included in that formula was a factor that provided for the fact that people are only 80% efficient. I don’t know if that has changed in the last 30 years, but if it has, I’m sure it has not gone up. Unless you are employing robots, there is no way a company is going to get 100% efficiency.
Agree with that completely. From my observation it is closer to 70 percent efficiency. If you get 5.5 hours of work out of a full time employee during the day you are doing well. As you said, people are not robots.
Guess it depends on how you define efficiency and what the job is.
In prison some of the jobs were defined as ‘watching the inmates and being prepared to react if something went wrong’.
It was pretty easy to ‘be efficient’ at that for 90-95% of your shift or so. Lots of jobs had more tasks to do but ‘being ready to react’ was part of all of them.
Definition is a big part of it. On a lot of jobs, people are given a 15 minute paid break in the morning and afternoon. That is already a 6.25% inefficiency factor. However, because we are employing humans, some of the inefficiency pays off in better efficiency later, ie., better teamwork because of networking. Of course sometimes the inefficiency leads to more inefficiency due to “cat fights” or “macho man one upping” that lead to people even less likely to work well together. If you are going to run a company, you need to factor in the inefficiencies.
Officers at the prison were not mandated a dinner/lunch break just a general guidance about taking a meal when the work allowed for it. Again since you can’t play the ‘it is my lunchtime’ card when inmates decide to riot.
However lots of officers claimed that ‘taking a dump on state time’ was the highlight of their day.
I am guessing that now when you are posting less due to you having to be more efficient at work that your posts will have to be more entertaining an enlightening.
I can’t give you a percentage because math is not my bag baby.
I think that is a solid observation.
‘solid observation’
That math is not my bag?

Math!
Well Plaid!
The DOGE efficiency cuts trimmed you down to 0.6 FTE?
I ‘member during the pandemic a certain legendary poster on the DN mentioned as part of his work in kinda the HR field that he was aware of a person who was working “full time” remotely during the pandemic, and was so efficient that he installed a pool in his backyard all during his work time. The legendary poster suggested that if one can get done in two hours at home what took eight hours in the office that the employer is getting their money’s worth. Having had the pleasure of interacting with techy types who were working remotely during the pandemic when I had issues with my workplace computers, I disagree with the assertion that remote workers are anywhere near as efficient or available as in office workers.
Even though I love working at home and I don’t abuse it like some do, there can be some inefficiencies just because you don’t have access to everything you need. For example, yesterday I was conversing with someone via email and to them, it looked like they had not paid us everything that they should have. However, for that particular job, I do not have everything converted to electronic files yet and I had not brought that paper file home with me, so now it will be next week before I can get back to her so we can resolve this issue.
Yeah, my wife doesn’t understand why I “enjoy” coming to the hospital to work when I can read the same studies on the same equipment at home. I could obviously move all my textbooks to my home office, have the phone number lists at hand, etc…but even with all that the studies take longer to load, despite having fiber optic ISP. A 10,000 image study and three recent compares loads virtually instantaneously at the hospital but takes at least 20 seconds at home. Add to that the technologists speak the same language I do and I can walk across the hall and ask them to pull this study and get so and so on the phone much more efficiently than calling x number and saying oh hi Julie can I speak with Catherine oh she is not in today?
It’s more fun to flirt with the Techs than it is with the Chocos, I would guess.
#nokinkshaming
I agree completely MT, at home workers are not as productive as in office workers.
I have ben working remotely since 2000. Usually one or two days per week.
Currently it is 4 days per week.
The days working from home are my productive days. I listen to music while writing code or solving tech problems. I also have a three monitor setup, a better desk and office chair than I have had at any job, and I can swear without offending anyone.
The one or more days per week when I am in the office, I get to talk with people about work and non-work related things, and the team building stuff is ok, but there is a lot less work happening. People walk up and ask a question, interrupting my focus, even though I have headphones on and am pretending to listen to music as to not be disturbed.. That does not happen when I am working from home. People can ping my email or teams, but I have those turned off or minimized for hours at a time when focused on writing code.
My boss never understood that, until Covid forced him to work from home.
Now, post-pandemic, he is a strong advocate for his team working remote if they want, since he realized that some jobs can be done better when there is nobody around to bother you.
TL:DR – I work better when I am left alone to get things done. Working remote is where I am at my best.
I can see that. It works for those who are self motivated.
That’s why self-employment fits me. The harder I work, the more I make. I can set my own schedule, I work more hours, but I still get more time with family because I’m able to choose when I work.
Yep. being a contractor was great for me as well, for those reasons. I never missed a parent/teacher conference or any band concerts or sports things. And putting in extra hours added to my pay.
The highlight of being in the office is the social aspect. Getting to know people is certainly easier face to face.
Still not really worth the time commuting for me.
I converted from a contractor to a full time employee at my current job since the company liked me a lot but wanted to save $. I like the job enough, and the benefits are good enough, that I took it. Jury is still out on the work/life balance. I probably work too many hours, but with nothing else to do except complain in here unless I am golfing, I guess that is good.
The remote working topic is obviously a controversial one; by design, I brought it up.
My original thesis was built around the assertion that a remote worker only needed two hours a day to complete the tasks that normally took (presumptively) eight hours in office. In other words, increasing his/her compensation fraction by a factor of four. In my own case, there is no current efficiency that exists that would allow me to accomplish my daily tasks in one fourth of the time, and thus give me six free hours during the day to accomplish non work related tasks. The grist of the original discussion of long ago was that the employee in question must really FTD while in office and was proving his real worth to the employer and suggesting that four employees could effectively be replaced by one…and also that my experiences with remote workers during the pandemic is that they were by design almost impossible to reach during normal working hours and that they had little motivation to solve my problems in a time sensitive manner. That speaks to some jealousy on my part.
As Gone fishin’ mentioned, it works great for self motivated people. Unfortunately there are some (plenty?) that are not self motivated and end up doing laundry, taking care of the kids, balancing their checkbook, etc.
Like you, when I work at home, there are a lot fewer distractions than in the office. My boss feels the same way. She works at home 2 days a week most weeks and we have a 4 day work week.
I would love a 4 day work week.
For too long, I had a 6 day work week. 5 is nice. 4 would be amazing.
Isn’t it the wrong time of year for the picture up top?
It would make more sense on March 29th.
Since it’s a picture of harvesting, I would say Aug or Sept 29th.
Hard working Americans keeping us fed.

Joe Diffie – John Deere Green, passed away 3/29/20
So that combine was a John Deere?
I guess probably since it is green?
Not my area of expertise.
But the NFLs combine is going on now.
My date is more of a thinker, and if you can figure it out, there’s a good chance we could be friends.
We could be friends but I will not be your ‘date’.
Unless you take me to a really good restaurant of course.
Applebee’s
Do Better!
Applebee’s would be good for a 2nd date however.
No, the NFL combine is going on
I finally figured that out. Don’t tell me I’m slow, but I’m slow.
Chris Kluless, lost his job as a high school freshmen football coach for his protest of nazism. We may want to put a care package together.
Good morning, SKOL!
FTP!
So Thursday never officially happened.
I feel a day older though.
At least he remembered to get up, otherwise we’d all have to pretend it was Thursday.
Since Thursday didn’t happen here do we have to pretend it is Thursday today?
And then tomorrow would be Friday and so one and so forth?
Much too complicated for the likes of me.
Time travel is complicated. It also helps if you have a DeLorean.
Much too complicated for me.
With or without a DeLorean.
