The U.S. Coast Guard said in a Wednesday statement that “presumed human remains” were recovered from the site of the Titan submersible wreckage.

I have been told they were vaporized in a nano second.
There should be no remains.

So for the second year running the Vikings will travel to Philly for their second game of the season. Last year they were completely destroyed by the Eagles. Is this year’s match-up a revenge game for the Vikings? Is Flores studying the Eagles offense and already scheming to beat it?

Defense was the not even close to the biggest problem, it was the putrid offensive performance, especially by cousins.

Cousin played poorly, JJ played poorly, and KOC had a bad game plan. Yet, if Irv hadn’t dropped an easy TD and JJ ran the wrong route which was another TD, a much closer game. Still would have lost though.

We gave away two TDs on offense, the Eagles didn ‘t stop those plays- self inflicted. Kirk and JJ had their worst games. If KC and JJ play badly, we can’t beat anybody.
Now, on defense, on 95% of Eagles completed passes, we didn’t have a defender within 5 yards of receiver. WE could probably improve on that – no?
Want to beat the Eagles – Kirk and JJ must have big games and the defense must make Hurts beat them with drop back passing from the pocket.
Ans yes, a brillant observation, we must score more than 7 points
What’s your plan Ben?

Eagles fielded three #1 level CB last year. That’s tough sledding. We have Hock now, they lost Gardner at CB but still have Slay and Bradbury. Their dline is absolutely stacked. Graham/Davis/Carter/Cox.

Look with that ball control offense that has big pass play potential with Hurts/Brown/Smith I just don’t see the Vikings going there on a short week Thursday night and beating the Eagles. Not going to happen.

JRobert
JRobert

28 June 2023 6:51 pm

True – they are stacked and will probably beat us. But I expect Kirk and JJ to play much better. We can score some.
On defense, still not sold on Hurts beating someone from the pocket. If we can’t stop their options, it will be tough. That’s Flores job to figure it out. Off my head, I’d say study some college film and see what Georgia or Ala do to stop options and RPOs.

Flores can buy KOC some time, maybe a qtr and a half before Hurts & CO adjust and find their points. Offense has to keep it close and pressure the Eagles offense to not go in to their ball control shell. Will need some breaks, lucky bounces on defense, catch them guessing against our offense.

Still…20% chance we have a shot to win at the end of the game but remember Buffalo…this team found an edge on the road and I’m sure they want another crack at those asshole cocky eagles.

JRobert

Well, 20 % better than nothing.
After a couple of glasses of wine think this. Flores should go out and buy some “big boy” pants and give them to our front seven and tell them to play like they know what they are for. Bring it – tough hard nose, hard ass football . Hurts wants to keep the ball and run, knock his head off.
Screw the Eagles.

Kirk not playing like a sack of shit is plan #1. Kirk and JJ don’t have to have big games, but they can’t suck ass like they did. Defense gave up 24 points in that game, which is about average in todays NFL. The offense was garbage. The end.

JRobert
JRobert

The defense actually didn’t play that bad – maybe one of their better games. Didn’t cover well though.
And as I indicated, Kirk and JJ had their poorest games. They will have to have, not average, but really good games to beat the Eagles.
On defense, they will run our asses off the field if we play like we did the later half of last season.
Your plan seems a little light on how we might stop that.

You know, that 4th and 18 play gets a lot of acclaim as it should – called the best play of the year in the NFL.
But I believe about two or three plays later, from a purely technical standpoint, there was like a 15- 18 yard completion to JJ that was great. JJ ran a spectacular route into double coverage and Kirk threw a ball into about a one foot square window with heat. Just a great route and throw.

Yep, I like watching the all 22 of games on NFL+ for a couple reasons. First, there is NO commentary or sound at all, and they show plays from a few different angles so you can see what both the offense and defense are doing on every play. If you want to focus on the line play you can watch it. if you want see what the coverage was, you can watch it. Etc, etc, etc.

OK, had a good nap. Slept pretty hard. The wife is making me pasta with meat sauce and a salad for dinner with garlic bread. She makes the meat sauce from scratch so she’s got it simmering on the oven now. She makes the garlic bread from raw dough as well, so she’s getting them ready to put in the oven. She also got a nice cabernet for me to go with the meal. I was only gone 3 days… I think she missed me.

One quote from a news story that was likely repeated by others.

The deep-sea water pressure that appears to have crushed the 22-foot craft would have been roughly equivalent in weight to the 10,000-ton, wrought-iron Eiffel Tower, experts told NBC News on Friday. The colossal forces would have acted so quickly that it would be like the vehicle’s carbon-fiber hull “suddenly vanishing” before anyone inside knew what was happening, one expert said.

I guess I was the sucker for believing this nonsense.

USS Scorpion loss:
The secondary Navy investigation – using extensive photographic, video, and eyewitness inspections of the wreckage in 1969 – suggested that Scorpion‘s hull was crushed by implosion forces as it sank below crush depth. The Structural Analysis Group, which included Naval Ship Systems Command‘s Submarine Structures director Peter Palermo, plainly saw that the torpedo room was intact, though it had been pinched by excessive sea pressure. The operations compartment collapsed at frame 33, this being the king frame of the hull, reaching its structural limit first. The conical/cylindrical transition piece at frame 67 followed instantly. The boat was broken in two by massive hydrostatic pressure at an estimated depth of 1,530 ft (470 m). The operations compartment was largely obliterated by sea pressure, and the engine room had telescoped 50 ft (15 m) forward into the hull due to collapse pressure, when the cone-to-cylinder transition junction failed between the auxiliary machine space and the engine room.
The only damage to the torpedo room compartment appeared to be a hatch missing from the forward escape trunk. Palermo pointed out that this would have occurred when water pressure entered the torpedo room at the moment of implosion.
The sail was ripped off, as the hull beneath it folded inward. The propulsion shaft came out of the boat; the engineering section had collapsed inward in a telescoping fashion. The broken boat fell another 9,000 ft (2,700 m) to the ocean floor.

I’m no expert in such things (I did watch Das Boot though!) but I think the concept of the let’s call it egg shaped hull imploding into a tiny sphere such as when they detonated “Fat Man” over Nagasaki is less likely than a portion of the hull failing catastrophically and immediately exposing the contents of the pressure hull to the water pressure at that depth. Human tissue would be squashed instantly, especially the air containing chest. The pressure would almost instantaneously equalize with the outside of the pressure hull and there would be no further deformity of same.

I get that the humans would die quickly.

I just think the story of, “it was vaporized” was wrong.
It at least gave me the impression that if anything was left, it would be in a million pieces.

I think it depends on what part failed. If the carbon fiber hull failed, I could see quite the splinters. If the view port that a CEO was fired for not approving because it wasn’t rated for that depth failed, the hull could have stayed at least mostly intact. Water would have rushed through the port instantly and equalized the pressure and crushed the fleshy things inside. Some of the cheaper stuff would be crushed or deformed, but overall the hull and tail cone could have mostly survived.

I think vaporized is correct. It’s like compressing air in a piston. At first the hull implodes, but then the air is compressed so fast, so hard it becomes extremely hot and then explodes.
PS A non engineer’s take.

Believe the humans were first turned into like a jell from the pressure, then miiseconds later the compressed air in the sub gets extremely hot (like 6000 degrees) and explodes.

If he is suspended this year, the Vikings will likely be pretty bad with Mullet at QB, get a high draft pick to draft a QB next year and still have Kirk under contract if the rook isn’t ready. Got home from Myrtle Beach about an hour ago. Was up at 2 a.m. and drove 8 and half hours back. Quite tired but no problems. I was able to get through several hundred documents with my sister and the estate attorney. She is very happy that right now we have everything covered. The attorney is going through the documents and barring anything popping up unexpectedly he will be able to file the will with the Probate office at the Courthouse in a week or so. So far we haven’t found any assets that require Probate. Everything was left in a trust, was jointly owned, or my sister was the beneficiary. My brother in-law was brilliant in how he did his estate planning.

Sometimes it’s nice to have someone else take charge, especially when you’re overwhelmed with life events. My son in law was a real hero with the remodel, but I would do better with legal documents, though I would not enjoy it. Had to do plenty of that when I was an HR Mgr., but I don’t volunteer to help others with it. Had enough.

The musical portion was a little kitschy and redundant but the weather was perfect and it is such a beautiful setting. Of course I think the local state park is prettier than Medora and if they developed the amphitheater it would be at least the equal of Medora but thems the breaks.

However the main act was a canine performance with frisbees and high jumps and dancing and I loved that. Plus the couple behind us had an 8 week old black lab they brought so I got some puppy breath fix.

Oh and they got (leafy) spurge up the wazoo over there.

“Now it is such a bizarrely improbable coincidence that anything so mind-bogglingly useful could have evolved purely by chance that some thinkers have chosen to see it as the final and clinching proof of the non-existence of God.The argument goes something like this: “I refuse to prove that I exist,'” says God, “for proof denies faith, and without faith I am nothing.””But,” says Man, “The Babel fish is a dead giveaway, isn’t it? It could not have evolved by chance. It proves you exist, and so therefore, by your own arguments, you don’t. QED.””Oh dear,” says God, “I hadn’t thought of that,” and promptly vanishes in a puff of logic.

He an OK WR2 , more suited WR3. Like whats his name in 2017, some clutch 3rd downs on drives. Will never be close to a WR1. His rise to glory has been preached on here for 2 off seasons now and there’s been nothing but good, not great, production.

he’ll make some nice coin in FA if he makes it there.

Being the #1 means drawing top dog coverage every week. Just don’t see KJ as that guy, and I love him and his reliability in the clutch. I think he’s got a good career as a WR2 working underneath an elite talent like JJ. Now it’s possible that if he completely balls out this year and produces above expectations that another team will pay him like a WR1. Jags gave Christian Kirk WR1 money and I, along with many, have never thought of Kirk as a WR1 – but he produced in that role.

I have no idea either, just know Jax gave Kirk that kind of money and he really didn’t disappoint. Interestingly enough, they’ve added Calvin Ridley to the mix along with Zay Jones who I thought really came on the back half last year. Jags look like a tough out going into next year, offensively at least.

Your babblings here of misguided personal assumptions and reasons simply do not hold water. KJ was not going to get the touches necessary to usurp Thielen a beloved cogger and JJ a young phenom. What touches and opportunities KJ did get he was fantastic with 12 tds over two seasons and many game winning clutch TD catches. He’s easily a solid #2 if not a possible candidate for a look at #1 status with another team if he flourishes as a #2 and takes the job and explodes. It could easily happen with the double teams JJ will be facing and the attention Hock is going to get,

in about 15% less snaps… the difference with AT was…. 10/66/1

pretty equal. Coin flip really.

take 15% from AT and you get….

It was an option on the table or play sheet to get more touches than Thielen, KOC was not going to give more to KJ than Thielen but when it was crunch time with the game on the line who did he go to a lot? KJ.

Absolutely he should have gotten more looks but there is a political aspect to vet players how many touches they expect and are promised and Thielen would have raised hell if he was rarely getting the ball.

Update on the Ryan Mallet passing and what happened. Rip

The sheriff’s office said first responders were called to a beach in Destin, Florida, around 2:12 p.m. local time, as a group of people swimming in the Gulf of Mexico near a sandbar struggled to make their way back to shore. One of the individuals, later identified as Mallett, was not breathing when he was pulled out of the water and was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Morning JRob, found some excellent videos on the mental aspect of golf and being more of a process golfer than outcome golfer. It is 110% my problem. I know how to hit the shots but I’m putting myself in bad positions and compounding those issues by not sticking to a routine and accepting the outcome instead of trying to control it.

That’s good – it’s mostly a mental game. On the course, it should only be about hitting shots – nothing instructional like pivot, or shift wight, etc. – that’s for the range. Clear your mind, FOCUS only on the target, and then let it happen.
Keep at it – it just takes time. We’ve all been there.

The ah ha moment is the blending of focusing on the process not outcome which we all know if you’re worried about hitting it in the water you’ll likely hit it in to the water because, dumbass, you’re focused on the water. But the other part I was complete missing was the shot commitment part and freeing the mind to do just that. If I can work on this and develop that skill and do that on every shot there really isn’t any way you won’t hit way more quality shots and accept the poor shots as just part of the game.

process / routine / commit

Process to me is grip the club correctly, get my line, and then line myself up correctly. Then just focus on target and swing. But no technical swing or outcome thoughts – just target.
You are correct – poor shots jjust happen sometimes. Just part of game.

I play my best golf when I just get to the ball and smack the F out of it. Too much thinking kills my game.

Yeah I’ve been way down the rabbit hole for the past year on all this stuff, swing techniques, game management etc…but as a long time golfer I went through all the same mental processes and realizations. Show up play first nine seriously have a shitty first nine say fuck it I don’t care and then play great. Or play like shit, have a few beers just hit shots and play well. Or lately come to the course determined to stay focused and have a few late blow up holes because I hit some bad shots.

I think most guys egos won’t allow them to accept not being in total control so when they force the issue and a bad outcome occurs they get frustrated, play even worse and eventually check out. You also have the guys who have failed enough at golf they just go with a laissez-faire I don’t give a shit and play how they’ll play but aren’t at all focused enough to play a great round.

If you can stick to the process /routine/commit I think that pretty much address all the mental problems.

Some of the best advice I ever got was “When you’re on the course, play. When you’re on the driving range, fix your swing.”

Correct.
When I’m having a stretch of bad holes I just get pissed and hit the damn ball. It usually works.

I remember the playoff win. Demaryius Thomas roasted Ike Taylor on the first play in OT. Tebow made the decision to throw that ball, on that route, before they broke the huddle.
