Weekend NFL Action
I’ll be honest, I watched very little football this weekend, I hung out with kiddo & his friends, played some video games, and built a game room in my shop. I did, however, catch the very end of the Bears-Commanders game, and I’m glad I did. Wow, the Bears had a 3-point lead but gave up a last-second hail mary, and lost the game. I thought only the Lions lost games that way. Ouch.
I was perturbed that the Pukers eeked out a win against the lowly Jaguars. I was hoping they’d pull a Vikings and get beaten by a lowly team, but it didn’t quite come to fruition. Dang it.
Upcoming Vikings Action
I’m looking forward to next Sunday, I hate the period after a Vikings loss, especially when they lose a game they should have won. We’ll have to wait until late Sunday, as the game got flexed to SNF, but hopefully the Vikings can wash off the stench from Thursday’s debacle with a win over the Colts. We’re Vikings fans, so we take nothing for granted, you never know what will happen. They need to stop the bleeding.

I thought I was gonna hand Derby his first loss of the year, I had a nice lead, but two of my guys decided to do basically nothing, and the Bengals benched Higgins at the last minute & since I wasn’t paying attention, I missed it. It was too much to overcome & I lost by a slim margin. See ya’ in the playoffs, Derby. Kiddo picked up his second win of the year (he had a rough start after accidentally cutting Nico Collins in week one, but he’s holding his own now). My in-laws are playing for the first time ever, and are actually doing pretty well (and also having fun, I think my mother-in-law might be addicted-just kidding, Barb). It’s been a fun year, we’ll do our best to make it more fun, maybe come up with something fun at the end of the year. Thanks to all of you who are playing, it’s been a good time.

We got back from the cousin in law’s funeral. We saw people we haven’t seen in years. I’m done with funerals for awhile.
My cousin tried to give me $100 for officiating. I told her to just take me out to eat some time. Now that I think of it , she may have been better off just giving me the cash.
Yep funerals are no fun.
I can normally block most emotions for the event but they have to be dealt with eventually.

Heard last week from one of the analysts on. the daily shows that Vegas actually favors Flacco when he plays. the coach feels differently. The ‘stsrter’ was like 2 for 15 in the. first half.
I don’t think I’d play a QB that takes himself out of plays because “I was tired”.

Had concerns on O-line before Darrisaw. That might be the final nail in coffin.
Quessenberry seems adequate, but Darrisaw was elite. Sam might want to work on getting the ball out much, much quicker.
Seen different scenarios. Brandel to LT (has not graded out well there). Risner to LG. Even moving O’Neil. Questionberry decent backup i think, just not feeling good about what they do.
Guess they’ll need to do something, don’t know if it’s a good idea to cue up the musical chairs on the OL again. Maybe they should just bring in Bacteria, if he can still play and get away with half the holdings he got away with at FTP we should be fine.

I have an opportunity to get involved in an argument with someone who thinks leaf blowers are a silly invention because they apparently think that blowing leaves are the only thing leaf blowers are used for…
I’ve been using leaf blowers for decades, and I can’t think of a single instance where I actually used one to clean leaves off a lawn.
There is a lot of truth to that. I even use mine to blow dust bunnies out from under the furniture.
They are super awesome for blowing off combines at the end of the day.
I use them to clean out gutters (maybe that counts as blowing leaves since leaves get in the gutters), clean out the garage, etc.
I even use them just to blow all the accumulated dust out of car interiors. Leaf blowers are marvelous inventions!
Iv used mine to blow piled up leaves around my house onto the yard for pick up, as well as cleaning out garage, gutters and lighter amounts of snow if it isnt too wet. They rock.

So… one missed play defines a player now? Pretty limited view.
I know there is a lot of Doom and Gloom after the Vikings suffered their second loss in a row. Also losing Darrisaw does not bode well for the Vikings right now.
After following the score and seeing the highlights from the Detroit vs. Titans, I don’t feel so bad about the 2 losses. Detroit is a very tough out. We went toe to toe with them and came up just short. The Rams on paper look bad, but they have been without their top 2 receivers for most of the season and got both of them back on Thursday.
Had we played a lesser team on the previous Sunday, I think our chances of beating the Rams would have been better, but going on the road on a Thursday night game is always difficult.
We need to step it up in the next few weeks and deliver blows to the less formidable teams we will be facing. I still see us in the top 2-5 teams in the NFC and top 5-10 teams in the NFL.
I mentioned similar sentiments last Friday. I was even more positive thinking we are still one of the best teams in the NFC and the overall League.
That said I am even more upbeat today. After reading here many times over that the refs did much to hand the game to the Rams, even better. Thus, could easily be 6-1 and the loss to Detroit was. nothing to be ashamed about.
Yes logically we are near the top of any list of NFL teams.
But we have to string together a few wins to prove it after the last couple of weeks.
The schedule is set up that doing that is more probably than what we did the 1st five weeks. Once/if we do that some of the ‘gloom and doom’ will dissipate.

Thursdays game left a bad taste in my mouth for Football in general. Wouldn’t feel so bad if Darrisaw didnt die. Oh well, I had 7 wins coming in anyway. Made me less excited for my Nashville trip.

Quessnberry was O.K. at tackle according to PFF…He ain’t no Darrisaw, but if he can play at a functional level we can still have a good season…..
But because of Darrisaw’s injury I am downgrading our chances of winning the Owl from 4 out of 5 to 1 out 5.
Q can be functional, maybe if Risner’s back can hold up and he can replace Ingram then the O-line will only be degraded a little bit.
With my Viking PTSD I figure our chances went from 1 in 5 to .5 in five, if that. Of course I am still recovering so…

Intellectually I still think we have a chance to make the playoffs, emotionally I am not so sure.

If they win their division games, they should make it.

Well, the Lions had 2 int’s and 2 fumble recoveries, they had a punt return for a td and also a few several big chunk yard punt returns, and a 72 yard kickoff return that didn’t end up in a td…

Right. Once these smart QBs figured out how to hit hot routes when we blitz (which we do often), then we just get gashed. It sucked when we did that without playing press man or covering the quick slants when press man got beat.
Didn’t watch a single second of that game, on purpose. Figured it would be a bloodbath. Not hating the Lions, but it’s close.
As an insight into how my mind works, I decided to install a set of heretic ditch lights on my Bronco yesterday afternoon. The Bronco comes with “accessory ready” mount points and when I pulled out the M6 T25 screw that the driver’s side light would mount with – set the screw on the edge of the cowl cover/windshield, proceeded to bump the cowl cover and the screw fell into the gap between the wiper arm and cowl cover. I then spent 45 minutes popping the plastic rivets, pulling the driver’s side wiper arm, lifted up the cowl cover, couldn’t quite reach the screw, kept monkeying around.
I realized I needed to quit when I was thinking of disconnecting the heater hose. Buttoned it all back up and ran to the hardware store for a new screw, 5 minutes before closing (4 pm).
All told, 15 minute round trip to the hardware store to get a new screw for 65 cents, versus busting my knuckles for 45 minutes trying to retrieve one.
I can only imagine how long this would take for freezeyface……

I did not watch all of the Bears game, but I did watch the first quarter and I thought Caleb Williams looked bad. He was missing throws all over the field. If he isn’t over-throwing the receiver he is under-throwing.
I did catch the last 5 minutes or so of the game.
Don’t worry Caleb Williams fans, when they play the Vikings he will set a record for completions as a rookie, something like 24 straight completions to start the game.

But can’t imagine having a DB over near the sideline yelling at fans while the play is going on, and then doesn’t do his job.
What should a coach do with a player like that?
Watching the film of that play with the rest of the team should be punishment enough.
Would be enough if he had just “Blown” his assignment. But standing near the sideline and jawing with the fans as the play is developing, that’s a new level to me.
Perhaps to old school, I’d cut him.
Especially as a young rebuilding team, you gotta send a message for the “culture”.
That was hilarious. I laughed out loud when I saw the replay of that sequence. I think I might just cut the guy, but in an inclusive and caring environment that the NFL seems to encourage he will be asked if the fans had hurt his feelings, and that being the reason that he couldn’t pay attention to the game.
Poor guy will get counseling, Redskins will have to play their next two home games without an audience because their fans hurt the player’s feels. Brave new world .

I just gotten home, was sitting in the chair, grumbling to kiddo about how I didn’t wanna watch football. That play happened, and we both went nuts. It was pretty funny.
I caught the last two minutes of that game, I came home from the shop in my wife had it on. It’s really the only football. I watched all day.
I did watch a minute or two of the 49ers Cowboys game last night, but not much. Kiddo and I were reading Rush Revere and the Revolutionary War.
I actually watched most of it, got pissed that the Skins had 2 TDs taken away by questionable calls, got even more pissed that dabears seemed to win after clearly being the inferior team all game, then the ending happened. Couldn’t stop laughing for a few minutes.

I’m struggling because my Viking PTSD is flaring up.
Because for first time in a few years we actually have a defense. they may have got out foxed Thursday, but they will adjust, learn and be back.
They need to adjust a bit though. Seeing that our defense was called for holding and such when our players were just in the vicinity of a an opponent and looked funny at him we should steer clear of opposing players from here on out.

i would say i am at the most uninterested in the vikings that i have been in a while…
yes i realize we are 5-2, yes i realize we all thought they would be 2-5 blah blah blah, but losing your all pro left tackle for the rest of the year, have a disgruntled wr who is being a major diva, and losing to what feels like an inferior opponent to show that we are who we thought they were (the vikings), it just leaves me feeling very MEH…

I’m in the same boat, pretty much. Had low expectations for the season, like 5 to 6 wins, was very happy with the excellent start to the year, allowed myself to be sucked in again in other words despite knowledge to the contrary, then the last 2 games happened. Inevitable with the Vikings, it seems.
Now we didn’t just lose the last 2 games (both losses of course totally fairly and immaculately officiated), we also lost our star LT who had played an excellent season. We could still end up with 5 wins… not going to happen (#nojinx), but at the moment I choose to be comfortably numb when it comes to the Vikings.

Yep, we finished combining last Saturday. We are just wrapping up the ground work now. I hope to have a life back by November.
