VIKINGS NEWS

After the Vikings took JJ McCarthy and Dallas Turner in the 1st round of the draft, they selected the following players:

Round 4 (108) — Khyree Jackson, CB, OregonJackson’s one of the tallest cornerbacks in the class and uses that size and competitive streak to stay in position. He led the Ducks with three interceptions and 12 passes defensed in 2023. He’ll excel in press-man coverage but will turn 25 before his rookie season starts. Draft tracker

Round 6 (177, from Panthers through Jaguars) — Walter Rouse, OT, Oklahoma: Rouse has prototypical athleticism at his size for NFL offensive linemen. His athletic profile matches up well with Jawaan Taylor and his football IQ will likely keep him on an NFL roster for years. He makes for an ideal swing tackle on a talented Vikings offensive line. Draft tracker

Round 6 (203, from Texans through Browns and Broncos and Jets) — Will Reichard, K, Alabama: A kicker at No. 203 isn’t a waste when it’s the NCAA’s all-time points leader. Reichard made an incredible 84% of his kicks in college, including going 5-for-5 from 50 yards or more in 2023. He’s more known for accuracy than power but could finally end Minnesota’s struggle to find a consistent placekicker. Draft tracker

Round 7 (230, from Falcons through Browns and Cardinals) — Michael Jurgens, C, Wake Forest: Jurgens lacks the athleticism of some of the other developmental centers on the board but boasts impressive power. His short arms and average lateral quickness could be trouble in pass protection against faster rushers.   Draft tracker

Round 7 (232, from Broncos through 49ers and Texans) — Levi Drake Rodriguez, DT, Texas A&M-Commerce: Rodriguez is a prototypical late-round flyer with tools to contribute on the interior. He needs a lot of development in technique and doesn’t have elite strength or length. But he does have strong hands and enough twitch to make a difference over time.

Question of the Day

How exited about the new kicker are you?

Thread Guidelines

  • Keep politics out. We are adults, news happens, and we can talk about it. What we don’t want is to go down the rabbit holes and turn a productive conversation into name calling and personal attacks.
  • Be cool to one another. Like it says above, just be civil. You don’t need to agree with everyone and that’s fine, you also don’t need to make it personal. Attack the argument not the poster.
  • Keep the NSFW to a minimum. We don’t need anyone getting in trouble at work for hanging out here.
  • All in all, be adults. Treat each other with respect and things will be fine. Mods will take out content they feel is pushing the boundary. If you want to reach out about something feel free to ask. We want to have robust discussions, that’s why we’re here. Just be civil and cool to one another.

I actually was lampooned on the issue of safety last week (I am very careful with saws mind you as I of course see x-rays on people suddenly missing portions of their extremities all the time).

Get this, I was drilling 1 1/4′ holes through two tinned walls in the shouse and one tinned wall on the shop, running cat VI over to the shop in 3/4′ pvc pipe tunnel. The hole saw was already woefully dulled out, but I forced it through the shouse walls using brute force and heating my poor DeWalter drill uncomfortably hot. Stench of ozone burning metal and wood everywhere. About then my wife’s ex rolls up to render advice (I had asked him to render such advice) on my irrigation project and he says why don’t you take five minutes and get a new hole saw? My wife says thank you he is such a tightwad with some things! as I tried to explain that I was really planning on throwing it out after I was done. After he left, I was in the process of trying to cut through the shop and got the ol’ JFC WTF are you doing from the little lady. Well I acquiesced, ran to the hardware store and got a new hole saw ($16!) and it took four seconds to cut through the wall.

Trust me I’ll do it again with something else next week.

Yeah, I’m gonna put it next to my big ol’ wall mounted garage vac, neighbor to my radial arm saw. It is a portable DeWalter, on a wheeled stand, so I can wheel it over closer to where I am working. I haven’t used one much since my HS shop days, the IA (Industrial Arts) one was a big ol cabinet saw. I’m planning on doing some dado’ing and making some jigs, see what knowledge I can pull up from the depths.

One of my regrets in HS is I didn’t do a year of HE (home ec). In my school it was either IA or HE and I caved to peer pressure. I learned a lot in IA but a year of HE would have been nice.

Well there’s no way the CFO would sign off on a 8K cabinet saw. I reviewed my choice with the GC – it’s a DeWalter with a mobile stand on sale at the big orange home improvement store.

BTW I have struggled for years with cheap stud finders that I get as stocking stuffers or free companions to other tools I bought, they always hit on a stud location and then when I drive the screws there is no stud there. I borrowed the GC’s and ended up buying one of my own, it is magnificent, I tossed all the old ones.

The “cabinets” so to speak are shelving and organizers for four closets in our shouse. Rather than fuck around trying to get a closet organizer to fit I’m gonna wing it with some strips of painter’s tape and a tape measure.

I think it is certain that denser items will travel through less dense items, That’s incredibly observable and true every time. The word that’s been attributed to that is gravity. I can’t confirm nor deny how the earth moves, there are theories out there about what-is what. Is the sun the center that all revolves around? Likely. Is the earth flat and the sun is local moving around it? Maybe. I have no idea.

I take issue with people who say there “is no argument” and that it’s “settled”. Because you truthfully, if we are being honest, have no fukn clue.

You gifted types probably already know this bit of trivia but #9 is often worn by the best player on a hockey team. Wayne Gretzky wore #9 his entire junior career (also as homage to his idol Gordie Howe) but when he joined the Oilers Brian Gualazzi already had that jersey, so he took 99 instead.

You asked for it! OK, so since the “science” guys say that definitely 1000% evolution is real and mostly based on the idea that we and monkeys share such close DNA, I propose that we assume that to be true, and while we share a shockingly similar DNA profile to pigs we are to ONLY deduce that, since evolution is real = we will definitely evolve away from being people = we are evolving into PIGS.

Science can not deny this, as they have laid the groundwork for my breakthrough. NOBEL, you got my number.

Update after my week off…

  • got moved into the addition. Man I hope that is the last time I have to haul heavy boxes and furniture, even if this time was the shortest distance I have ever moved objects.
  • rented a walk behind trencher on the windiest day (63 mph gusts) of the year so far, with the absence of precipitation I was a dust monkey from head to toe. Plus trenchers are hard AF to run I discovered. Lots of time on my knees with a trenching shovel doing Hurricane64 style leg and back workouts. Wrestled 200 feet of 2′ black poly, 100 feet of 4″ non perf drain pipe, placed an ethernet cable in 3/4″ PVC conduit, etc…coughed up a few hundred grams of dirt over the next two days. Been slowly working on getting the shallow well hooked up to 3 700 foot runs of drip irrigation.
  • the GC and I put up the shower door in the master bath. Super easy, not. That lovely moment when he told me we needed shims for the 100 pound fixed glass and I disagreed, had silicon caulk all set in the channels, placed the glass and realized the shims had to come out…see definition of panic in the dictionary and that is what comes up.
  • sweet talked my way into purchasing a long coveted addition to my toolshed, a table saw, as I’m going to do my own shelving and rods in the closets.

In summary, I’m happy to be back at work doing cerebral pursuits.

Just like what happened with the moral majority in the name of “moral decency.” Just like what is happening with the woke movement currently in the name of feelings, fairness etc…

It’s almost like what really matters is power and money to those at the top and they know how to pit us against one another so they can stay at the top while they keep grabbing money and freedoms while we just keep fighting one another… Just another example of why party loyalty is killing this country!

Now, ‘party lines’ are drown and you’re either with the “Team” or not. And if you’re not, you won’t be around very long.

there’s easily testable proof to show that denser items go through less dense items here on earth. They call that gravity. Testing a hypothesis is what science really does.

Not being able to explain where humans come from and then being like “looks like carbon elements from millions of years ago are right next to seashell things”… then getting to “looks like carbon elements are next to these monkey bones” then to look “human bones look like monkey bones kinda”

Truly no test to confirm assumptions imo. But there is good analysis to describe assumptions. Still to say it is exactly what happened after it was only assumed in the 1800’s is incredibly arrogant and I won’t be apart of it.

We all know “scientists” are infallible, especially with these past few years. I just got an email from a medical journal saying that heart-related deaths hit an all-time high and peak in 2021, but of course, there is no correlation to the jab or reason to believe it had anything to do with that. Just coincidence. And the flu disappeared for a couple years. Again, mind-blowing stuff that they know is right (based on who is paying them or their own arrogance).

I covered the growth of lethargy in the human populace, but there was also the fact that people didn’t go for regular checkups because people were afraid of hospitals or the hospitals were full. It might have been “heart-related disease” not deaths (myocarditis in particular), but I am nonetheless trusting the information provided in the email for my point. To your data, which may be deaths specifically, it might look different.

But to another point, COVID proved you can’t trust the WHO anyway, so your data, regardless of that there might not be a better aggregate source, is likely skewed just like all the COVID death statistics (like millions were dying from COVID, but come to find out they were dying from car crashes, diabetes, other diseases and whatever but classified as COVID deaths, which was immediately apparent in 2020).

Here’s my two cents; I believe god has a divine plan for everyone. The more you stray from that plan the less likely you are to get into heaven.

Praying to god is a way to ask him to get you back on the path to the divine plan.

As far as the Hitler thing, if Hitler was truly remorseful for what he did, than yes he could be allowed into heaven. He cannot just say forgive me for what I have done and not truly mean it.

Ps. I am not overly religious.

This is why I like these conversations, I learn different view points. You always hear the, “God has a plan” when someone dies… “well it was his time, god has a plan.” That is to say God killed them and the little kid ran over in the middle of the street. That shit always bothered me, even when a believer. So in your view God has a plan but doesn’t meddle in our lives to push to or away from that plan. That seems fair.

The funny thing I find in forgiveness is usually most of the judgeiest Christian’s out there sin as we all sin, but just figure you can ask for forgiveness and you’re good. The problem is there is a difference between the words forgive and judge. from a biblical sense I saw that situation as sure, god forgives you but you’re going to still be judged hard on that sin if you judge others hard because, “You will be judged as you have judged others.” Those folks always seem to forget that part lol.

The word Jesus used that got the fiery shit hole idea was “Gehenna” which was a little shit hole place outside of Jerusalem that was a place for cast out POSs of society. So it wasn’t hell it was Matthew 5:22: “…. whoever shall say, ‘You fool’, shall be guilty enough to go into Gehenna.” Matthew 5:29: “….it is better for you that one of the parts of your body perish, than for your whole body to be thrown into Gehenna.”

The other place is likely not a firery hell but rather the absence of god, and I repeat again. If god is an egomaniac that allows Hitler into heaven but not me then cool, I’d rather be where god is not.

Just remember everyone is an athiest. There have been thousands of god’s in the time of humans, you don’t believe in all but 1. I just don’t believe in 1 more. You are possibly going to hell in every other one of those religions.

I think I might be more agnostic, I don’t know, you don’t know but at the same time I think agnostics are athiest by definition a little bit.

First, we really don’t know that Hitler will be allowed in heaven.
Now as you say there are a lot of religions and there has been. For most all of my life, I’ve been well acquainted with just one and try to ‘live’ by that one. It says Heaven far better than hell so I’ll that’s my chosen route. For all I know, it might well be very firery.
I live in Florida, that’s hot enough.

Question, do you think God is an egomaniac? I liked to think when I was a believer, there was a lot of things in the Bible put there by man. I mean Paul had passages that were pro-slavery, so either God is pro-slavery or Paul is fallible like every other human and some things were in there that were a product of their times. In that regard, the, you have to praise god on high and exalt his name, seems a little more like a “big fan’s” (prophet’s) perspective, not the perspective of an infallible deity.

Um Hello, that was just a made up story of a flood that nearly every damn society around the world had.

You expect another flood, even though in the Bible it said he wouldn’t do that again… good logic. Genesis 9 man, “I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life.”

I’ve listened to it and believe it wouldn’t happen again, unless it had to. I’m not a bible thumper so don’t interpret it directly. You’ve asked why God would allow evil and discussed free will. It’s clearly stated he allows free will and people to make mistakes, until he realizes what he’s created is far too off the rails. You quote Genesis as someone whos not a believer…GOOD LOGIC.

Lastly, my joke regarding expecting a flood is just that, a joke, I doubt we’ll get a flood just because men want to be women and our society is very much going backwards. This is far different from the Hero’s of a time mixing with humans and corrupting humans lines and then a rumored mix with animals.

Don’t ask questions you don’t want to discuss. You won’t be able to “get me” on this website brother. I’m for questioning everything and not being so fuckin arrogant about what or what is not “settled”.

I think most of it is semantics. Like, I believe species can adapt and do change over time (some call this “evolution” in general, some just call that adaptation and/or natural selection). Evolution to an entirely differently quantifiable species, I believe, is not the case, particularly in humans. Are we taller, smarter, etc? Perhaps (I would call adaptation or natural selection to become a better version of before). Were we single-celled organisms or even apes that changed to humans? I say no, that’s a little too farfetched to believe, and if you trust the Bible, then God made us generally how we are today I think.

Natural selection is what causes evolution. If you read about ring species (I know there’s a lizard in the southwest) you can see evolution in action. There is a mountain range that divides a population of low elevation lizards. If you start at the bottom and work your way up, they can interbreed. When you get to the top, the lizards from the east can’t breed with the ones from the west. Literally evolution in action. You have to remember this happens over millions of years. People getting taller, etc is most likely due to health improvements. Plus, as I said, humans now are a bad example of any evolutionary process at work. A, it’s too short of a time span. B, humans do not interact like species in nature do. If you look at the “typical” person from different regions though, you see obvious similarities from one region to another as you work say from Africa to Norway, but if you just compare somebody from Norway to somebody from Africa, obviously they are different. The ability of humans to travel the world is yet another reason you can’t look at humans in the timespan of evolution. The existence of humans is but a pin prick on the evolutionary timeline.

I agree that it’s hard to see the forest through the trees with the timespan we are talking about. But humans are humans, even if we change to an extent. We weren’t apes I don’t think, and we certainly weren’t bacteria.

I for one am happy with the draft – some argue they gave up too much but teams have to make a move to change a team. We’ll see if JJ works out short term or long term, but there was no other good option at the moment.

I kind of talked myself in Penix being my preferred, but injury concerns I do get – think his arm and athleticism would have been great. But JJ seems like a good leader and hard worker – can teach to throw into windows, can’t teach leadership.

Defensive get is HUUUUUUGE.

His highlight tape shows plenty of arm strength. Tight window throws, deep corners, throwing on the run with velocity and accuracy.

He’s not perfect, there’ll be plenty of rookie moments for sure.

But his arm strength is fine.

I just think the ‘strong arm’ thing is somewhat over blown. Burrows came out and they said he didn’t have a strong arm – he seems to do just fine. Not sure Brady had a rocket either.
Get the ball to the receiver in a good spot on time seems to count most.

I was watching it out of the corner of my eye, had it streaming on my muted tablet while we watched a movie. The first round picks take forever…about the time I glanced back at the screen the Falcs took Penix Jr which surprised me. Then I figured about a half hour before the Vikes would either pick at 11 or trade down and when I looked back the Jets were picking and the Vikes had JJ. Shut the tablet off at that point, was pleased with the Dallas pickup though.

I dunno about you guys, but the draft has become unwatchable for me. If they could run two minutes a pick I could handle it. At this point it is like watching a heavily commercialized narrated fashion show.

I had my opinion on QB, and had Maye as my first choice, then whomever the coach liked between Penix/Nix/JJ as the plan at 11. Seems to have worked out, and they got a very good defender in round 1 as well as the QB not named Kirk.

Ignored the rest of the draft after round 1.

Apparently Krusty Gnome shot a puppy she had and wrote about it, which whatever, as much as I hate her, I don’t think she’s psychotic animal killer and anyone who grew up on a ranch/farm knows there are times animals sometimes need to be put down and it’s her story so who knows… anyway. What I think is funny is the line from this article where Laura Loomer said you can’t shoot your dog and then be VP… But apparently you can shoot a person in the face and be VP! lol.

I’ve had to put dogs down before – my HS sweetheart adopted a stray (they lived in rural Eastern NE) had it for years and it showed no signs of aggression at all.

Then in a span of a week it killed a family cat and bit a neighbor lady.

I put the dog down myself with a .22. It’s the worst thing I’ve ever done and it haunted me for years. Was truly awful.

I’ve also held my two previous dogs when they were put down. It was far more peaceful, but equally as awful. I sobbed like a child.

A lot of people are really into this “not the dog’s fault, owner’s fault, the dog can be rehabilitated.” F that, as much as I love my chocos they bite a human and they get a bullet to the head.

The 2 year old choco got bluff charged by a cow while we were bird hunting, he got after it nipping at the heels but once he had the cow in full flight I buzzed him down with the e-collar. It’s one thing to control livestock and another to run them into the ground. I might, just might, make an exception to chickens but so far all my dogs seem to understand the difference between chickens and other birds of a feather, although they like to carry the chickens around.

You are one of the good dog owners. There are too many that don’t have a clue how to own a dog and too many that the dog is an extension of the owners self important immaturity.

Anything to pull at the heart strings of the people who only think with their hearts and not their brains. This was well played by the nbc group – purple hair they/thems will be big mad and this story will be a stain on her for a loooooong time lol.

Understand, but the nbc, cnbc, msn, etc style reporting will be the ones constantly vilifying it from here until she’s no longer in politics. Get’s the loud crowd riled up. It’s the same playbook we’ve seen for 8 years now bro. That was my only point, yes all news outlets covered it but some much differently.

Gooooose morning Skolbros!

QotD: It wasn’t a sexy pick, but it just might have teeth.

I’m honestly so happy with landing McCarthy and Turner that I don’t mind it so much. Blair Walsh’s late career yips and Daniel Carlson’s early career flameout have me snake bit on kickers – but I do think Minny landed the best of the bunch in Reichard.

Goose is skeptical.
