Thread Guidelines

  • Keep politics out. We are adults, news happens, and we can talk about it. What we don’t want is to go down the rabbit holes and turn a productive conversation into name calling and personal attacks.
  • Be cool to one another. Like it says above, just be civil. You don’t need to agree with everyone and that’s fine, you also don’t need to make it personal. Attack the argument not the poster.
  • Keep the NSFW to a minimum. We don’t need anyone getting in trouble at work for hanging out here.
  • All in all, be adults. Treat each other with respect and things will be fine. Mods will take out content they feel is pushing the boundary. If you want to reach out about something feel free to ask. We want to have robust discussions, that’s why we’re here. Just be civil and cool to one another.

‘What does trolling mean on the internet?’

Trolling is when someone posts or comments online to ‘bait’ people, which means deliberately provoking an argument or emotional reaction. In some cases they say things they don’t even believe, just to cause drama.

‘Know the boys here will just love it.’

It sounded like you were trying to get NLNVF to post a picture of himself in a ‘No. 18 Falcons Jersey’ in order to get a reaction from those with KDS.

I was trying to lightheartedly pointing out that you were trolling them (or trying to get NLNVF to). Not that I would object in this case and they are easily triggered and would find a reason to react even without any help.

We left Boise area at 6am PDT, traveled down the east side of the Sierra Mountains to SoCal.
We got snowed on from Reno to Bishop Ca but it never got bad enough to effect roads/travel.

We got home 11.5 hours later and managed to get south of the snow prior to it getting bad/cold enough to stop us. (heard it was pretty bad yesterday evening/last night)

You can take that suggestion or move the f on. Kirk is gone and he wasn’t great. He was good and paid more than he was worth. I don’t give to damns how many tds he threw or how many oline excuses you want to make. At the end of the day, he’s wasn’t good enough and now he’s gone. Move on from him or move on with him. I really don’t care which, but pick one. You’re still in love with the milquetoast girl who you were gonna break up with but she beat you to the punch for somebody with more money. QofTD (even if it is the day after ‘the day’).

I am a proponent of Trenches and Defense.
There are a couple of CB ranked near #11, Arnold from Alabama/Mitchell from Toledo, some Edge Rushers, Turner-Ala/Latu-UCLA/Verse from Fl St. Additionally Some DT like Newton of Ill or Murphy II of Texas would be worthy of a #11 pick.

I would be happy with whomever Coach Flo wanted.
Would hope for Sweat DT Texas later in the 1st.

Pretty much agree with this SoCal. Defense needs some real impact players. Trouble is, KAM still has to solve the QB position problem. How much he invests in that is the question.

QB is the crux of the issue, Job #1 if you will.

KAM could go ‘all in’ on his guy and trade the house (including future picks) to get him or he could take the ‘best of the rest’ at #11 or even punt it until next year and see how Darnold does with decent coaching and support.

I figure that they have their guy that they will get and if he is taken before they could get to him they have to decide on the others. Do they have a choice 1B or 1C that they believe that KOC can mold into a Franchise QB?

Certainly the draft board has to be set up with the players you want, ranked in order. You watch players come off the board, then when it’s your turn to pick, you take the guy still remaining, ranked highest on your board.

I would say if they are set on picking a QB in the first round, and the top 5 are all gone by the time they pick (indicating they couldn’t trade up), they should consider going BPA at that point.

Yup,
Braintrust will have to rank the players and decide the order that works for them.
QBs are at the top I suspect but when other players start getting added it anyones guess.
Since this is the Smoke and Mirrors Season it is all guesswork. Afterwords they will say that they guy they wanted is the one that they wanted like they did with Addison.

The 2026 pick becomes a 2nd if Reddick has 67.5% playtime this season and has 10 or more sacks. If not, it’s a 2023 third.

Gooooooose Friday Skolos!

QotD: I’d take IDL @ 1.11

T’Vondre Sweat is the guy I’d love to see brought in – taking him at 1.11 would be a bit high based on projections but Minny could trade back a bit and still acquire him.

You can clock him with a sundial, but he’d be a huge (literally) addition to the IDL

I’d also welcome the additions of his teammate, Byron Murphy or Jer’Zhan Newton from Illinois. Both players are smaller, 3-tech types that would also improve the IDL.

That said, it’d be tough to pass on Dallas Turner at 1.11 if he’s still there (which I doubt, I think he goes top 10) Even with the additions of Greenard and Van Ginkel I think B-Flo would find a way to utilize Turner.

Happy Good Friday and hope you all enjoy your Easter Weekend!

Kwesi and KOC are going to break the curse by drafting a stud QB and setting the Vikings franchise up for the next 2 decades. The QB position will be solidified until 2045, the Vikings are going to win so many SBs that we get bored with it, statues will be built, streets will be renamed.

I like your optimism. Since it is MN, that means if the Vikings do such a thing, then all the other sports teams in MN will either implode, move or just quit, plus the whole state of MN will probably slide into Lake Superior and/or be invaded by Canada which will then claim half the state and give the other half to Iowa.

One would hope, but the Vikings had one of the best QB’s in the league, (and most prolific in their entire history) and they didn’t get it done. Thus the thought here, that somehow a rookie QB is going to change everything is irrational to me. The QB wasn’t the problem with the Vikings, he was the best part of the whole team.

Only if you’re stuck living in a mirage of a past. The Vikings have not been competitive since 2017 and even that was a mirage. We will soon shout from the mountain tops that the QB others rejected has become our cornerstone. This is Kwesi’s doing, and it is wonderful to see. This is the team the Kumbaya Krew has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.

It is the Goodest of Friday’s and a time of hope – for every day, month etc.
First, Darnold is talented (a number three pick). Save for Williams this year, in our system he may well turn out to be better than all the other QB’s in the draft.
Second, even if he isn’t “so great”, there’s lots good “potential” candidates to develop.
Since the Lord has a great many problems to work on right now, we only need a little “help” to put together a championship team.

One would hope, but the Vikings had one of the best QB’s in the league, (and most prolific in their entire history) and they didn’t get it done.

The question is, “why didn’t they get it done”? The answer that stares you in the face but you refuse to acknowledge is that, as good as Kirk could be, the value just wasn’t there. It’s the fact you continue to ignore either because you lack the capacity to understand or your too proud and/or infatuated (with Kirk) to admit.

From 2018 – 2023, the 6 seasons Kirk was a Viking, he had the #1 cap hit in the league. He topped the list among all QBs during this period. And yet, for this same timespan, his average QB Rating was #7 and QBR #15 in the league. He clearly wasn’t worth being paid more than any other QB during this period. Because he was, the Vikings gave up cap space that could have been used to surround him with a better team.

That’s why they didn’t get it done. They paid Cousins more than he’s worth. That’s not the same thing as saying he’s not a good QB…he is and at the right price, I would have supported and continued to support Kirk. But, despite his public comments to the contrary, I think we now know he prizes money above all else.

They paid Cousins more than he’s worth. That’s not the same thing as saying he’s not a good QB…he is and at the right price, I would have supported and continued to support Kirk. But, despite his public comments to the contrary, I think we now know he prizes money above all else.

My point all along. While I still contend that Kirko absolutely does suck when there is serious pressure up the middle, for most of his Vikings stay, he has been an above average QB that is paid like the best in the business. That is just not factually accurate.

Kirk is and always has been an average to above average QB.

Maybe ATL can get it done, but I expect not.

Skolifer, it is not I, but you who are refusing to actually accept reality here. The false narratives continue to flow from you… the #1 cap hit commentary is just lot of huey. His cap hit had nothing to do with the Vikings failure on draft selections, and free agents they brought in that sucked. They didn’t pay him “more than he was worth” because only three other QB’s threw more TD’s than Cousins from 2018 to 2022, and he was leading the league in passing TD’s when he was injured. Prolific. The fact is, Cousins was really the only Vikings player that was consistently good every season. No other part of the team was good at all, yet here you sit, claiming the Vikings were bad because Cousins wasn’t good enough and he cost too much. Neither of those comments are true at all.

I never said the Vikings were bad. You said, “they didn’t get it done” and I agreed. The #1 cap hit stat is fact, not “huey” (I think the word you’re looking for is “hooey” btw).

Unfortunately, if you look at overall QB statistics (i.e. not cherry picking those the fit a narrative as you’re wont to do), Cousins was around the 10th best QB in the league in his time with the Vikings. If you look at what “cap dollars” were spent on the 10th highest paid QB during that period, it comes in at around $20MM per year cap hit, versus the more than $26MM per year the Vikings spent, on average, on Kirk. This extra $6MM per year could have gone toward shoring up other positions groups, like the O-line you love to bitch about. In which case, Cousins might have been even better and they may have more than one playoff win to show for it.

That said, I do agree with you that we haven’t gotten enough from our drafts while he was here, so that also a contributing factor. But to pretend Cousins was worth what we paid for him is just dumb.

I disagree with the Cousins was around the 10th best QB. His passer rating over his time with Vikings was 5th best in the league from 2018 to 2023. As I said, only three QB’s threw more TD’s than Cousins did from 2018 to 2023. Keep in mind, Cousins accomplished this behind a shit interior O-line, and with a different OC every year.

Check your “math”. As I said in my initial post, Cousins’ average passer rating ranking was 7th and his average QBR ranking was 15th while with the Vikings. This isn’t hard stuff to find or calculate. There was only one season he finished in the top 5 for passer rating which was his injury shortened 2023.

I checked the stats… over a period of 2018 to 2023, Cousins passer rating ranked 5th.

Them’s the facts.

Check your math. He was 10th, 4th, 8th, 4th, 13th and 3rd from 2018 through 2023, respectively. That’s 42 divided by 6. The average is 7th.

That said, I was going from memory and said he had only one season in the top 5 of passer rating. That was incorrect. It was QBR I was thinking about where he finished once in the top 10 during his injury shortened 2023 season. And QBR has a higher correlation to wins than passer rating does because it considers things like throwing distance (think “check downs”) and fumbles, both of which are relevant when discussing Kirk.

We’re using different sources. I looked at individual season stats from PFR and then averaged them.

But even this stat muse graph has him at 6th, not 5th. So…….??? My point all along is that he was the #1 paid but not the #1 performing. And you can’t just disregard QBR, where his ranking is much lower.

Yes, but that doesn’t work effectively over time, because a particular QB might have a good season and place high, and then that’s it. Every year there’s guys who have their best year. Cousins though, over time is consistently strong… like every year.

Your averaging proves the point. Although in individual years, some QB’s finished higher than Cousins in some categories, across all the seasons, and compared to all his peers, only 4 QB’s were better than Cousins. Your factoring was/is flawed.

It’s a nice day and you can’t really win arguments like this. Is there inflation or not, is he over paid or not? “Why didn’t they get it done”? Great question!
Certainly because we didn’t have enough other good players – for sure. If you could adjust the pay to performance, and save “some” money. how much and would you really get for it. I wonder.
Everyone likes to talk about the Giant playoff game – and the famous 4th and 8 play.
But everyone should go back and ‘review’ the entire game.
Are Smith, Hunter, and Kendricks very well paid for the positions. they play? Guarantee the review is quite revealing.
More good players for sure – but maybe some of existing players should actually show up and “play.”
Just a thought

Oh, if I might ask you a question sort of appropriate to the discussion. Was looking up some QB stat numbers – not my strong point.
But. noticed this – Cousins had a QB rating over 10 points higher in 2021 than in 2022. How could this be? .

This is a question that folks don’t want to hear answered, but here it is JR.

The passing offense KOC brought in was hard for everyone to learn. Receivers often ran the wrong way on a route and Cousins stats were basically the worst he had since being with the Vikings. I remember the last game of the season when everyone should have had the offense down pat, Thielen faked the fade to the corner, and ran a post route in the red zone. Cousins threw the ball to the corner. It was a glaring example of how KOC’s adaptive route scheme caused misses.

Just makers me wonder about all the stats that get thrown around. Are they correct? Are they relevant?
And by the way, most of the stats I’ve seen here today differ some from the numbers I’ve been seeing by the analysts on TV over the last couple of weeks.

well Cousins is gone but the obituary should be correct or close to it.
I don’t count QBR since it’s biased against pocket QB’s
Just from poor memory – he was three to five in most all categories and maybe one seven. TD’s and Yards were pretty big .
And one I hadn’t heard before – over the last six years he led the NFL in fourth quarter TD passes. Since we are just about always in close games, that is a pretty big deal
Now, the Pundits may miss, but they seem to have much less of an ax to grind than some others.

I did an analysis several months ago and QBR has a higher correlation to wins than passer rating. I was trying to be fair, if not generous, to Cousins by putting passer rating into my overall QB ranking. He’s probably been closer to around 12th best over the past 6 seasons.

Unlike NVF and others, I try to use stats as objectively as possible, acknowledging there’s no such thing as a “perfect stat”.

I’ve seen many games where Cousins played outstanding, and even led a game winning drive, and had a low QBR. So, that stat really perplexes me. I think running QB’s get more QBR points than pocket passers.

Williams will be a rookie, and usually rookies don’t play well their first year. See Lawrence, Young, etc. Yes C.J. Stroud came out of the gate playing very well, but he’s the exception, not the rule. I expect Williams will have a typical rookie learning curve. He will run a lot for the same reason Favre did as a rookie. He won’t know what he’s doing.

I agree, but the reality is, in the NFL, if you don’t have a good QB, you don’t have much of a chance.

You can win with a historically great defense and a great running back, like the Bears did in 85, but in general, teams need a good to great QB to compete,

Or at least be in honest contention for one. Take the Bengals for example. I could see them moving on from their GM in a year or two, but no way Burrow goes anywhere. The team seems to be going backwards. Buffalo is an honest contender even if they haven’t gotten there yet. The GM and coach seem to be doing a solid job there and no way you move on from Allen.

That’s what’s nice about having the 2nd first round pick right now. They have the ammo to move up if the guy they want is there but it also leaves them flexibility. What if QBs don’t go 2 and 3? That gives you the option of getting your guy at 11 or only trading up to like 8 and keeping the 2 ones. At 23, trade back and maybe get a 2nd or 3rd back. They are primed to move up and down and get who they want.
