Well, the Vikings managed to get their first notch in the W column in the 2023 season yesterday. Yesterday’s game was a huge win by and for the Flores defense. The defense scored 1/3 of the Vikings’ points, and gave up fewer points than the Vikings offense gave up. Yes, I know it was against the Panthers offense, but this Vikings team has had as fairly long history of making sub-par quarterbacks look elite. Well, that didn’t happen yesterday. The Couch (Davenport) had a career day yesterday, and Harrison Smith played like he was 25 again. Wow, that was fun to watch. Our defense hasn’t looked that good since the first several Zimmer years, and it was refreshing to see again.
The offense was another story. With the exception of JJ’s performance and Cam Akers making an impressive Vikings debut, and I’ll give Mattison a nod for his performance as well, the offense did not look great for most of the day. Kirk threw two interceptions, one of them a horrible pick 6 as the Vikings were looking to score a TD (Hey, does that sound familiar? It should!), and he missed several other passes that he should hit. The O-line continued to play better than what we’ve seen for the past decade or so, but Ingram also continues to be the weakest link while Risner sits on the bench.
In the end, the defense overpowered the Panthers offense, and Harrison Smith was the fitting person to put the final nail in the Panthers coffin with a sack of Bryce Young. Hey, the team is 1-3, and is no longer a basement dweller of the NFC North. The Bears, LOL.

Davenport was very disruptive out there. I had not bothered to watch tape on him. The guy can collapse the edge on the run game, and get to the QB. Let’s hope this continues.
Davenport, Akers, and Risner may be what this team needs to go on a run and just miss the playoffs this year

I re-watched the game to count the number of hits on Cousins, and there were two sacks and three hits (including this one) on 21 drop-backs. That’s a 23.8% pressure rate, but really Cousins had a lot of clean pockets on his throws.

They keep talking about O-line injuries for the Giants, might be part of their problem so far this year.
Yes, when your O-line suffers, your QB suffers. The classic example of this of course is Mahomes in the Super Bowl against the Bucs. The injuries to his O-line left him unprotected and running for his life the entire game.
Better than Wilson. The Seahawks knew something was wrong with Wilson, they fleeced Paton & the Broncos.
Wilson is second in the league in passing TD’s at the moment so looks like Sean Payton is getting some production out of him.
He’s 6-15 since arriving in Denver.
Not to start a whole thing, but Wilson didn’t give up 70 points to Miami last week, his defense did, but he was horrible last season and entitled, plus he’s a corny d bag.

Wilson was terrible last year for sure. Reports he was using code words on audibles from the SeaHawks offense and no one knew what he was calling. Really struggled in an offense he hadn’t learned well enough.

Some reason for hope that the Vikings can still turn their season around. The defense played its best game in three years yesterday. That kind of performance isn’t going to be the norm, but they are certainly starting to show some real teeth. They’re better than the crapshow we’ve had for a long time here. Keep that up, and get the offense clicking like I really think it could if KOC gets his head out of his ass, and we can beat a lot of teams.

After facing the Buc and Eagles fronts and then seeing the success early against the Chargers maybe the running game isn’t as bad as we think.
Well we started the season out terribly with the running game against Tampa and Philly. Started getting it right the last two games though. If we run the ball decently to very well the rest of the season, I’ll be very happy.
Murphy is not very smart and is about 180 lbs to the point Baker told him he better gain some weight. Now this…smdh

Daniel Jones signed a $160M contract in the off-season with the Giants. In three games he’s thrown 2 TD’s and 4 interceptions. I haven’t watched any of his games though. Like the Vikings, the Giants could just be a little snakebit so far. Maybe tonight Jones will get it going.
He’s also 0-6 on MNF, I think even Kirk has a better record than that

Well, I don’t profess to know how well or unwell Jones has played on MNF. Teams win or lose games, not one guy though. Obviously if the offense doesn’t score many points, the chances of winning are hugely diminished. So if a QB struggles, and can’t get the ball in the end zone, then chances of victory are small. If the QB plays well and the team loses though, then what? The “loss” is laid at his feet? That is a pretty lame position to take.

He was widely thought of as a talented “natural” pass rusher with a lot of potential and that showed on Sunday. He just does body position and leverage usage very well and apparently has some natural strength that you add it all up makes him effective. That said been a lot of NFL players who had potential but couldn’t stay available, the most important attribute. I defended him here and on social media that it had nothing to do with him milking an injury, lazy, uncaring whatever all the derogatory things that were said. He was hurt and couldn’t play. When he did he was as advertised. I hope it continues.

Since the Vikings beat the Packers in week 1 of last season, the Vikings are the only team in the NFL to not win a game by more than one possession. Most teams have done it several times. The next closest team is the Bears who beat the Patriots by 38-14 in week 7 last year, but that’s their one and only “more than one possession win” since week 1 2022.

I found it interesting but Freezy corrected me…I forgot about the Bears game week 18. That said, it was just an observation. I was literally thinking to myself while watching yesterday’s game, “man, it seems like forever since the Vikings won by more than one possession”, and the week 1 GB game came to mind.
So, since I’m naturally curious and like data (although I admit I messed this one up) I decided to look to see if any other teams in the NFL hadn’t won a game by more than one possession since week 1 of last year. Turns out, both the Bears and Vikings have, although they’re also the only 2 teams that have done it only once.
Anyway, as a Viking’s fan I found this interesting because I’m looking for reasons to believe they can turn their ship around, but this stat doesn’t feel great. That said, I do sometimes post data-driven comments that are warm and fuzzy, so maybe you should just read those.

Wasn’t a bad take – one or two but the broader point is we don’t blow people away. That was my read. Why, maybe overall team talent, on/off offense, and a rather porous defense. Some on this can be improved upon.
They are typically pretty flat in the first half. This year they have been plagued by turnovers obviously and give the other team the lead into half or at the very least keep teams that shouldn’t be close. This is why they won’t beat KC. They will turn the ball over or just not score in the first half and the Chiefs will not come out in the second half content with the score. They will likely be down by 10 at half, KC will score a couple TDs in the second half, but Kirk will wake up half way through the third quarter after 2 or 3, 3 and outs, make his stats look good and make the game look closer in the box score than it was in reality.
I’ll leave the Kirk stuff aside as I thought this was a broader issue.
We are a much less talented team than Dallas but are in some ways kind of opposites. Dallas is a front runner. They get you down and they will pound you. We are opposites . We sometimes come out score a little and then sort of coast for a while. And then like holy shit we need to get it going. I’m thinking more than just last four games.
You mention Kirk. Read a stat before last game, 108 of his 133 passes were with us behind. Dallas/DAK would be a mess with that.
Also, think this is bigger than the KC game – not the best example.

The slow first half was an issue last year as well. I only used KC as an example because that is the next opponent and people are actually getting confident in the Vikings pulling off the upset. I mean it could happen because it’s the NFL and any given Sunday yada yada, but simply because of Mahomes/Kelce (and now the league’s Swift favoritism) the Chiefs are in a different league.

I wasn’t being critical (probably came across that way). I just think this is tabloid commentary by someone. Just someone pushing something out that stirs the pot of negativism and some agenda. None of that is of any interest to me.
OK…but as I mentioned, this wasn’t someone else’s tabloid commentary, I was curious, so I looked into it.
It took a little more time than expected, so at some point, I started just looking for any other team with the same or fewer ‘more than one possession’ wins, and I stopped counting exactly how many each team had. But I can say there’s a strong correlation between the best teams last year and the number of ‘more than one possession wins” a team had. IIRC, the top half of the league all had 5 or more of those games in 2022, other than the Vikings.
So, since I’m more into the Vikings winning than losing, this statistic takes on some importance. If they continue to rely on one score wins, like they have more than any other team in the NFL other than the Bears since 2022, we can expect they will struggle to be successful. Good teams know how to put other teams away early and often, the Vikings don’t.
So, this isn’t tabloid commentary, IMO.

It doesn’t. I have many friends (and myself) who have contracted COVID a number of times, even though fully vaccinated and boosted. I was sick as a dog, three times.
I had it twice and have had regular colds way worse. It depends on the person and that is why I don’t like the blanket statements and requirements. Sure, it probably is beneficial to some, but I am young enough, healthy and have a strong immune system so there is no reason for me to put an untested chemical in my body. Yes, the general science has been used, but anybody who knows anything about chemistry knows how much a simple atom realignment can change a chemical.
Given your age and what I know of your health – active, tall/thin – it doesn’t make sense for you to take it. I wouldn’t have either if I were you….
To make my boss happy, I got the J&J one initially and was sicker from that than I ever got from the actual virus, once pre and once post vaccine. I regret getting that stupid thing, but at the time it was smart for my career.
I understand – I had very little side effects (sore arm, bit of lethargy) and I got Covid after the original round and a booster and it put me down for about a week, but it never felt/rose to the level of life-threatening.
When i got my flu shot last year i felt like i had the flu for 3 days.
But you didn’t die right? My doctor was pretty clear that the jab wouldn’t prevent Covid, but it would increase the likelihood of surviving it considering my age, weight, health risks etc.
I wouldn’t have died if I was unvaxxed in my opinion. People who say that are spouting their personal opinion, including doctors and scientists.

Again…for the umpteenth millionth time, they clearly stated getting vaccinated does not keep you from contracting covid or becoming sick. It reduces the severity and chances of dying from it.
Well the Polio vaccination irradicated Polio. That was originally what vaccines did. The COVID vaccine did not eliminate COVID, or protect anyone from getting infected though. In effect it’s basically a flu shot. Calling it a vaccine, and insisting everyone including children MUST be vaccinated was therefore ridiculous in the extreme.
You personally lambasted anyone who didn’t get vaccinated because they were out there infecting other people, like they were carrying the plague. That, when the whole time people who were vaccinated were also getting sick and infecting others.
And the vaccinated were in many cases asymptomatic and unaware they were carriers so the vaccine actually increased the spread.
No they specifically said the vaccine would stop the spread and you couldn’t get it if you had the vaccine. Or was “a disease of the unvaccinated”.
Not entirely correct, mate. They initially stated that one or two shots would make you and others “safe” by providing sterile immunity.
Little by little the narrative and the “science” changed and ended up at what you stated, but requiring multiple “boosters” and what not.

PFF rankings are subjective though. Their “trained experts” watch the film and grade performances. Some of those evaluators know nothing about football BTW.
Going into this past game, Cousins was once again the most hit QB in the league. He only dropped back 21 times this past game and one was to launch a pass at the end of the game to burn off the last 2 seconds. He was only sacked twice, but don’t know how many times he was hit yet.
Our O-line seems to grade highly, but Cousins gets hit way too much, and especially on 3rd down, they choke like dogs.
Yeah PFF is as subjective a grading tool as there has ever been. They had Oliver, the guy who’s penalty took a TD off the board that was followed by a pick 6 btw, a 91 grade. I mean come on.
PFF exists because there is no one else pouring over games and players to give them a grade. Seems to me their grades come out rather quick, 32 teams (x) 22 starters = 704 players they have to watch game tape on to give them a grade. You telling me they’re turning that shit around in 12-18 hrs??? BS.
