VIKINGS NEWS

Vikings OC Wes Phillips is suspended for 3 weeks for DUI, coincidentally it is during the most useless time of the offseason

NFL NEWS

Old Friend Aaron Rodgers earned $81 in incentives for a total of 4 snaps

Question of the Day

What FA left on the market do you most want, or makes the most sense for the Vikings to sign? Here’s a link to Spotracs FA list, here’s a link to the depth chart, I’d like to see IOL Connor Williams brought in, if not a corner, possibly Xavien Howard.

Media Selection

Thread Guidelines

  • Keep politics out. We are adults, news happens, and we can talk about it. What we don’t want is to go down the rabbit holes and turn a productive conversation into name calling and personal attacks.
  • Be cool to one another. Like it says above, just be civil. You don’t need to agree with everyone and that’s fine, you also don’t need to make it personal. Attack the argument not the poster.
  • Keep the NSFW to a minimum. We don’t need anyone getting in trouble at work for hanging out here.
  • All in all, be adults. Treat each other with respect and things will be fine. Mods will take out content they feel is pushing the boundary. If you want to reach out about something feel free to ask. We want to have robust discussions, that’s why we’re here. Just be civil and cool to one another.

I have tried Mocks doing this more and more.
Sometimes one of the Top 4 fall to #11.
Sometimes I can get Nix/Penix even after a trade back or two.
Sometimes I go full Defense/Trenches and get a lot of good to decent players.
Lots of ways to play this.

Moving up works if you get it right.
Playing it safe works better than getting it wrong.
No one knows how KC, Buffalo would have done if they stayed put.
Might their QB still been there?
Might they have still gotten a decent QB and still be excellent teams?
No way to prove it either way.

Fansided article saying the Vikings should take Penix with 23 and not give up any draft capital, maybe get a Bryon Murphy II type with 11.

Not a terrible plan, of course depends on what you feel about Penix vs the other QBs.
Is JJ worth 3 No 1s vs Murphy + Penix or Nix + keeping next years #1?

Guess it depends on how KOC/KAM/McCown/Phillips have the QBs rated.

They said he looked great at his Pro Day and he has learned his lesson on being a running QB.
At 24 he can still have 10-12 decent years.

Lots of decent plans, no idea what the ‘best one’ would be. Like the idea of more/better draft picks.
Got Nix/Sweat/Frazier (OC) all in the 40s after several trade backs after the top 4 QBs were taken in the top 6 picks in my mock yesterday. Not a bad Plan D.

After trading back several times I ended up with Nix plus a dozen good to decent players.

Not sure Murphy II would be better than Sweat on our DL.

Plus Frazier is a 4 year Heavy weight state champion wrestler and his scouting reports looks like this,

Zach Frazier
OC
West Virginia
Height: 6 – 2 |
Weight: 313 lbs |
RAS: 7.62
Strengths
– Low-cut offensive lineman with superb mass and an incredibly strong upper half
– Nimble athlete with good blocking range in space and solid lateral mobility
– Former state champion wrestler with an excellent IQ and understanding of leverage
– Has great hinge fluidity, swiveling around to pick off LBs and execute reach blocks
– Able to torque through and finish defenders who sacrifice leverage trying to pry free
– Can quickly process stunts, realign base, and re-exert hands past initial extensions
Weaknesses
– Doesn’t quite have elite explosiveness or range in space
– Has below average length, which causes occasional lurches to over-compensate
– Sometimes widens base too far, inhibiting his ability to recollect lateral positioning
– Occasionally overshoots blocking angles working ahead of screens

I think the biggest concerns on Penix are his health, in particular his knees. 2 torn ACL’s before age 25 – I fear a long term knee issue, like what shortened Sam Bradford’s career.

If we go with Penix, we are basically saying we are taking a flier that either Penix or Darnold will work out. Remember Darnold was the 3rd overall pick who was put in shitty situations.

I would rather give up capital and go get one of the top 4. Even with signing Jefferson we are going to have lots of cap space next year to plug holes through free agency.

Jehovah’s Witnesses turned away

This one used to be kind of fun for me since I can be an ass. I ask them to open their bible to the book of Jude. It succinctly instructs people to separate from false teachers, then I read off the last two times the leadership of that cult has predicted the end of the world, incorrectly. I then look at the child/children present, and ask “why are you listening to false teachers”?

They leave rather quickly

My personal take on drafted players is, there’s no such thing as a sure thing. Folks here say “any of the top four QB’s will work for me”. Well, maybe none of those top four will ever become top shelf NFL players. Maybe 1, or maybe 2… but which of them will? When you mortgage your franchise on one guy, you are never going to really know how it will play out.

I still keep thinking that something other than 3 QBs will happen in the top 3 in which case the Vikings won’t have to move up beyond 5, if at all, depending on which guy they want. Every year way more QBs are projected to go in the 1st than actually happens. Levis was projected top 5 and maybe top 5 by some last year. Hell, I remember a couple of years ago when Mettenberger was projected repeatedly in the first. I feel like JJ is going to be like Mac Jones as far as draft predictions go. Way hyped and expected that somebody would trade up for him, but when reality hits, teams will go a different direction. I could easily see the Pats going non-QB. Arizona won’t. The Chargers won’t. Washington could go either way. Maybe the Chargers will trade up with NE to get Harrison.

It seemed he was getting the ‘Thielen Treatment’. He was being targeted less and less.

Adam proved he still was relevant at Carolina with 100+ catches and 1000+ yards but he wasn’t being utilized much his last year in Minn.

Diggs was getting less and less targets and in their last playoff game he was less than an afterthought.

Not sure what the cause was. Maybe multiple things?

I doubt that Diggs cared about the ‘why’ he was getting less targets he only cared about the number.

Pretty much the same reason he wanted out of Minn when Zims offense wasn’t getting him the targets he ‘deserved’.

Well, the Bills are apparently taking a $31 million dead cap in 2024 on Diggs.
So I would go with the drama angle.

Lol…. Houston used the 2nd rounder acquired from Minnesota to get Diggs.

Thought Allen was the super QB that was taking Buffalo to the Bowl???

seems like Allen/Buffalo have a big problem as long as Mahomes/Chiefs are around.

On 3 of the dumbest luckiest plays in recent NFL history. Dont get it twisted. Not all wins are equal. Get real.

They had a few chances.
KC is better. Now that they have salary cap issues, the reset will need to happen.

His best chance would seem to be by getting traded to Kansas City.

His best chance is to start dating somebody more popular than Taylor Swift. Maybe JJ can steal T-Swift from Kelce for the 2024 season.

I find it fascinating the reports around the top 6 QBs.
Each one has their supporters and critics among the ‘experts’.

No telling what the Vikings think about each one.
Will they give up 3 1st round picks for one they feel most strongly about?
Will they stay in place and grab whomever falls to them?
Or maybe something in between like a short trade up?

Yesterday I even read a report that Rattler belongs up with the top 6.
