If you remember, back in 2012 when the Vikings drafted Jarius Wright they also drafted his teammate Greg Childs, who was physically superior, but ruptured both patellar tendons at the same time making a catch at training camp. Its still the worst injury to overcome in all of sports, it basically means your femur is unattached from the tibia/fibula.

Speaking of though, I was listening to this guy Marty Wexler III on KFAN, he’s an analytics consultant for NFL teams for the draft, he tests players on all kinds of stuff outside of what they do at the combine, like a 6 cone drill, and they do other measurements, its all proprietary information so he doesn’t really get into any details. Anyway, he said hand size can be an issue with fumbling, but individual finger strength, in particular the thumb and pinkie are what correlates most to not fumbling. Also, there is apparently a correlation to a QBs ability to satisfy a woman and their success on the field, at least in their studies and analysis.
I love listening to Wexler on KFAN, he is right up there with Gerbschmidt.

After reading this thread I will say this: Women with children and shitty relationships (didn’t realize she had kids) are a red flag for me.
Unless he’s an absentee father, and if he’s abusive that’s a good thing, he’ll be around as long as the kids are involved.
Every situation varies, maybe it’d work out.
But if he’s a dick now, what’s the likelihood he ceases his dickish ways once they’re divorced, especially with kids involved? That could be a scenario where everything is a nightmare: custody arrangements, holidays, child support. Those are already tough situations, even more so if one guy (who’s shown a pattern of cocksuckery) is inclined to be dickish and spiteful.
Whole thing sucks because ultimately the kids get shafted. Dad’s already a dick and here mom brings in this guy who might also be a dick (you, not that you are, but from their perspective, maybe) It sucks for you too, but you’re a well adjusted adult who can deal with shit and move on. Those kids get to be party to rotten behaviors that may very well set them onto a lifetime of shitty, unhealthy relationships.
She’d have to be a helluva woman and damn well worth it for me to want to walk into that scenario.

JJ had a very respectable 61. The only recent successful NFL QB’s that were as weak-armed as Darnold where Lamar Jackson and Deshaun Watson – both at 49 mph. Christian Ponder was at 51 mph.

Was at a conference last week….
The opening 4 minute speech was about how we needed to acknowledge that we were holding the conference on lands stolen from the Native Americans. In fact, several Native tribes used to gather for trade at the exact spot we were having our conference. We needed to be mindful of the oppression the Native Americans suffered at the hands of our forefathers/foremohters…..Luckily, to appease their white guilt, the conference organizers were making a large donation to the local Native American museum.
If I would have been on my game I would have pointed out that Native tribes frequently traded slaves at these gatherings. So by romanticizing this trading among tribes the conference organizers were supporting both sex trafficking and human enslavement. I am sure I would have been asked to leave.

Year 1 was a clusterf***. Not taking Kyle Hamilton was regrettable.
Year 2 was better – Addison was a good pick. Blackmon looks to be serviceable. Pace looks to be an overlooked gem – and on his way to replacing Hitman as my current favorite Vikings defender.
Year 3 – Huge improvement imo. Got our guy without giving up the farm, traded back up to get a consensus top 10 player (and the best defender in the draft). Landed a pretty good, albeit older, DB prospect in Jackson and a bunch of projects.
Yes, we only have 3 draft picks next year. Don’t care. We’ll get a comp pick back from losing Kirk. Long time between now and the ‘25 draft – let’s see what happens.

Yeah Greenard, Ginkel, and Cashman are offset by Hunter, Wonnum and Hicks. Osborn is offset by Tillery. Davenport maybe could fetch a comp pickvery late. Most of the other FA signings are all 1-2 mil year deals that are all pretty much offset. Jones doesn’t count into the “formula” because he was cut, not an expiring contract.
I think they’ll get the earliest 3rd round pick, I think that’s 96, for Kirk and then maybe a 7th or something for the totality of the rest having spent a little less than what the departing players got.
I believe Sam Darnold will be our starter until the bye week. I think at that point JJ will take over and we make a run at the playoffs.

Well, Darnold was a higher draft pick AND, according to the NFL.com site, he had a “prospect score” of 7.1 while JJ had a prospect score of 6.4. Darnold was supposed to have the ability to be a consistent pro-bowl level QB, JJ is supposed to be “a good starter within 2 years”.
I am saying Darnold may have a higher up-side – I say let them both compete for the starting job and play the best one.
I agree with your very last sentence. However we’ve seen Darnold in the league, maybe with a worse supporting cast sure, but we’ve seen it and there’s been nothing that shows much upside to me. Haven’t seen JJ at all, but I don’t see how Darnold could have more upside at this moment.

It sounds like KOC has a very specific, like day by day, plan for JJ and basically daily benchmarks he needs to hit before he considers him to start. I like the approach and that they haven’t closed the door. If he proves himself and hits the marks, I think he’ll start, but it’s probably a long shot.

He was high on Hartman, I thought Hartman would be good in ND going into the year based on his stats at Wake and what lifer said, I hadn’t seen him play a lot, but then I watched him against Ohio and he sucked, then I watched him play Clemson and he sucked. He was actually asked to do less than McCarthy last year and really didn’t respond, particularly against decent competition like Ohio, Clemson, Louisville, etc. He has horribly inconsistent accuracy.
He and talked several times early in the season about the QB class, he liked JJ but wanted to see how he played in big games this last year, based on JJ’s performance this should pretty much sum it up…
No clue on five, Kodiak would have been happy with any of the top 6.

I feel optimistic about the direction the Vikings are going with KAM. His first draft sucked, no other way to look at it. Third year is typically when players see the most growth so theoretically it could end up being meh instead of disaster, but we’ll see. The other two drafts look pretty decent but you never know, sometimes players just don’t develop, injuries happen that alter careers, etc. Even if Turner, McCarthy, etc end up not working out, I like the disciplined, but aggressive approach. He’s been decent in FA with the cap space available. They only have 3 picks next year as of now, but they did keep their 1st, will get a comp pick for Kirk, and as of now they have 105 mil in cap space. This is a good question…hopefully one of the smarter fellers on here have an educated answer.
It’ll be comparable to what Detroit paid Sewell and St. Brown
Probably around $70 mil. Darrisaw’s salary won’t likely change much, he’s on the books for 16 mil, they could even reduce it in an extension if they want, like Detroit just did with Sewell. Most likely contracts for both are very similar in structure to what Det just gave St. Brown and Sewell, JJ probably gets about 20 mil more total than St. Brown, Darrisaw will probably get a little less than Sewell. Between JJ and CD they’ll probably be around 25-30 mil cap hits next season. Bynum’s contract is up next offseason so they will probably extend him as well, though I don’t anticipate that being a massive extension.
I never feel that great about free agency. It seems like we always get loser OL, DL and secondary. That might be my imagination. Just feels that way…

By using Gin because its better lol. I keed ( kinda). And Martini’s are very specific to your pallet. Someones perfect could be shit to the next person. My personal preference is to actually shake them, even though its traditional and proper to stir unless asked other wise. And I like them dry which means LESS dry vermouth. I also enjoy some orange/lemon bitters in there as well. So, try this spec and sub your vodka for the Gin.
2.5 oz gin, 1/4 to 1/3oz dry vermouth, two dashes of orange bitters. Shake (or stir) until well chilled, strain into glass, garnish with fresh lemon/orange peel expressed over the top.

Bonds Martini is typically called a Vesper Martini and its a bit of a different animal and is way more boozy. It also calls for a spirit that technically is not made anymore but you can get an alternative that is basically the same thing. And I get asked to make Vespers almost weekly, we’re a craft cocktail bar so we know what were doing and have the right ingredients. Just call it a vesper and you wont sound dorky at all, you’ll sound like you know what you’re doing ha.
I would make sure your bartender knows whats in it first before you have them make it and you spend $14-$20 on a cocktail you dont enjoy.
Maybe I can make it to your bar some day and order it there.

well, given the cap constraints, sort of. Notable FAs he’s brought in were Murphy, who is an ok CB, not great, The Couch™ who you could see why they signed him when he was on the field, which was only like 20% of the games, he was a waste, Risner was uneven between pass and run blocking, but overall pretty good. This years crop of FAs we haven’t seen, but as far as the front 7 you can see they signed guys with more flexibility, Greenard isn’t as good overall as Hunter but he can go play out in space more naturally, Ginkel can play inside or outside LB, drop into coverage, and rush the passer, as opposed to Hicks, who could play inside, was a liability in coverage, and doesn’t really rush the passer. Add in Turner, who can also drop into coverage, and Pace, you’ve got a group of 4 LBs who can actually do both, which in theory makes it very difficult for the opposition to know who is actually rushing the passer on any given play. I have no idea if those players will actually play well, but in theory it gives Flores the ability to be more creative.
Spaghetti carbonara is pretty good. Will for sure make it again, as it is super easy and good for lunch prepping.

I actually got the recipe for spaghetti carbonara from watching the Outdoor Boys on YouTube. I get a lot of recipe ideas from him. He makes stuff over campfires, so it is usually pretty simple, yet tasty.
I also perfected by power Jell-O last night.
Sugarless strawberry Jell-O (the kind that requires two cups of water)
Scoop of vanilla protein blended
Two bananas blended
Two handfuls of blueberries blended
Homemade whipped cream

I like how clever he is – like stripping down and seasoning that shovel he has so he can also use it as a cooking surface.
I keep meaning to do that thing where he wraps a wad of cheese up in a ball of bread dough. That looks tasty.

I haven’t seen the cheese thing. The scotch eggs look awesome though but I can’t talk my kids into it. I even have some homemade breakfast sausage that would be awesome on em. I’m probably going to make some before one of our trips this year anyway and get my kids to try em.
I knew he was Mormon – there’s a few comments he made in the first few videos I watched about spending time in Japan and a few other places on ‘mission’ trips – so I made the assumption.
I’ve often noticed how much work he puts into it. Hiking for hours and hours and then spending hours building – the snow caves look to be the most physically demanding. Then the setting up of equipment, making adjustments, tending to the boys. It looks like a lot.
He seems to be his happiest when he’s cooking and eating after a hard days work – like he’s earned a reward for all the effort he’s put in and being weary from a full day of hiking and building makes the food taste better.
I feel better about KAM, but the draft cupboard is still kind of bare coming up. That is a concern. May he be wily enough to circumvent that.
It honestly could be on purpose. He saw the value he could get in this year’s draft, knowing if he landed QBOTF plus some other talent, you mix that with the money we have for FA next year just thought it was worth it to mortgage some of next year’s draft capital, keeping the first round pick to fill a hole we need next year. I think the Window for truly being a threat is the 25 season and beyond. This year is settling into the remodel.
Yep, I am actually looking at 2026-2029, as that fits our once-a-decade relevance timeframe.
It is the Lions and Packers world for now in our division.
He currently has a 1st and 2 5ths, obviously the 1st being key.
We will get 1 possibly 2 comp pick with one most likely being a 3rd.
And we evidently have a ‘conditional’ 7th as well.
So could be 5-6 picks plus any ‘Cleveland Type Trades’ that get made.
Not terrible, and given some decent cap space gives us other options.

They will excel. It just depends on what your expectations are for this year. As long as JJ looks like an NFL QB and the defense shows growth, I consider that excelling. If they are anywhere close to the playoffs this year, then they are ahead of schedule and I will be ecstatic.

KAM has fixed the cap issues he inherited, and is trying to not create his own.
They are trying to build a championship team while the QB is on his rookie deal. That is something people here have been clamoring for since Teddy’s knee exploded.

I did a drive by at the DN on my way here and there are quite a bit of KAM haters over there.
I was pretty down on him after the first draft, have yet to fully forgive him. But FA has been hit and miss this draft has been a big step forward.
I’m feeling good about KAM.
