It was a solid outing for the Minnesota Vikings yesterday, as they went into Lambeau and handily beat the Packers 24-10. It was a solid team win, as the defense continued to play extremely well, and the offense seemed to continue to find their legs.
Normally, a win against the Packers in Green Bay would be cause for happiness, but yesterday also saw Kirk Cousin’s season end when he went down with a torn achilles. That hurts. The Kirk Cousins era in Minnesota has likely come to an end, and just when he and the offense were starting to bulid some momentum. This all occurred with the trade deadline only a day away, so the Vikings could conceivably still try to make a trade to replace Cousins if they don’t feel that Jaren Hall can guide the ship. The next day COULD be interesting.
In the end, the Vikings got their 4th win in a row to bring them to .500 on the season, and they just seem to be rolling right now. I’ll always be happy with a win in Lambeau, but dang, that’s some crap luck with Cousins’ injury.

Glass half empty but I think he was having problems with the Achilles before that, probably tendinosis or -itis. In other words, it was going to happen sooner or later. If it had happened after a late or low hit or on a tush push at the end of the game to give Vikings a first down to ice the clock I would have been furious but given the non contact – something wasn’t right.

Tendon seems to get lots of abuse in NFL. I’m no expert.
2 QBs have torn their ACL this season and they both were up front for not getting a certain injection. Obviously without that injection the coinciding virus weakened their achilles tendons.

A question if I might. I have tendinosis in an elbow tendon. I am going thru some thorough rehab pt. But no one said anything that it could snap, just needed rehab to rework tendon fibers.
I wouldn’t worry about it. I have never seen a common flexor or extensor tendon rupture in the elbow. Lot less force involved than the Achilles.
Another point. If Joseph hadn’t missed those field goals, the Vikings wouldn’t have been passing & Kirk wouldn’t have gotten hurt.

Achilles tendon ruptures occur with a bimodal age distribution, with the first peak in 25-40-year-old males and the second peak in those older than 60 years. It is rare to tear a normal tendon. The most common presentation is a 40 year-old weekend warrior who experiences a sudden pop in the distal leg after pushing off from a dorsiflexed position while running or jumping. When reporting tears, it is essential to describe the size of the tendon gap, the quality of the torn tendon, an estimation of cross-sectional involvement, and the presence of atrophy of the soleus and gastrocnemius muscles. Most Achilles tendon tears occur in the relatively avascular zone located 2-6 cm from the insertion. Mini-open repairs can allow a quicker return to activity than the standard open repair and with less serious wound complications.
Average time to return to play is about six months.

I just saw a larger version of the video and it was not a back kick. He lifts his closest (left) leg as he comes up to him and then skates away. The police are reportedly investigating it. It will be hard to determine anything for sure though so it will go down as a horrible accident. Even if he intentionally lifted his leg to knee him or something, what are the odds of getting your skate to his neck? Freak deal.

I am thinking ahead and I don’t see anyone to trade for that will step in and ‘save the season’ unless they can lure Brady back.
(Doubt very much that is happening as we are not allowed nice things.)
So next week and probably the week after it will be Hall and ‘The terrible one’ as back up.
They probably sign someone to the practice squad like the Gopher or the USFL guy they had before. Just a ‘break glass in case of emergency type of guy’.
Once Mullins is off IR and we see how his back is and have a better idea what we have in Hall more decisions will be made.
Hopefully Hall is playing ‘well enough’ that it will be an easy decision.
As far as trading away at the deadline I don’t think that they can. It will prove all that KOC has said to the team about never quitting a lie and he may lose them.
