Vikings & NFL Discussion

Not much news out there, although there was some action at the 2025 Pro Bowl Games. It sounds like Greenard & Van Ginkel both impressed, and the NFC is out-performing the AFC thus far.

Other than that, there are allegations out there that Justin Tucker is channeling his inner Deshaun Watson. I hope the rumors are false, but there’s sure a lot of smoke in the air. I’m not sure why a kicker needs to go crazy with massages, I’m probably far more active and rough on my body than a kicker is, but I suppose I also don’t have 7 figures a year to burn through. I dunno, I’m not very judge-ey, and I’m a firm believer in “innocent until proven guilty”, so I’ll let the facts come out. I’m just glad that it isn’t Vikings players in the news for this stuff now. I remember the days when Tice was the head coach, and it seemed like a Viking was in the news for bad things on a regular basis.

Vikings News

Vikings.com takes a look at the cornerbacks in their 2024 Vikings position recap.

NFL News

The NFC grabbed the lead over the AFC in the Pro Bowl Games, per CBS Sports.

Massage therapists have accused Justin Tucker of misconduct, from CBS Sports. Being pervy isn’t just for star quarterbacks anymore. WTH is wrong with these guys? He’s innocent until proven guilty, so let’s hope this isn’t true. The number of accusations doesn’t look good for Tucker, but I’m not gonna judge him until hearing more. I’m far more physically active than a kicker. We’ll see how this goes, but it doesn’t look good at the moment.

From Yahoo Sports, Justin Tucker has denied the allegations against him.

The NFL is looking into the allegations against Tucker, according to NFL.com.

Beautiful day at Pebble. Rory rolled in the eagle putt on 14 to go up by three shots over the field. Four holes to play. Feeling pretty good about Rory getting it done here.

Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth announced that the Pentagon will no longer officially recognize “Identity Months,” such as Black History Month and Pride Month.

“Going forward, DoD components and military departments will not use official resources, to include man-hours, to host celebrations or events related to cultural awareness months. Service members and civilians remain permitted to attend these events in an unofficial capacity outside of duty hours.”

I completely agree with this.

OK, so McCarthy wants the Hitman to come back. Smith is now entering the first of his four void years on his contract, and the Vikings owe him over $10.7M. I think Smith says “hasta la vista” and calls it a career.

I think The Hitman loves what he does.
If Coach Flo thinks that there is a role from him he might be back.
Although I think it is more likely that he comes back as a position coach than as a depth, replacement piece.

The Vikings are mulling over Sam Darnolds future, and pundits are saying he’s worth $100M for three years. Some are even saying $160M over four years. I don’t think KAM believes that, and I don’t think they’ll offer him a 2 or 3 year contract, at all. I think KAM will offer a one year extension, and $15M max. They have Daniel Jones, Mullens, and McCarthy. My take on this is, they’ll wait and see if anyone decides to pay Darnold a lot of money to come play for them. If no one takes the bait, they’ll low ball him, and keep him on the roster.

‘They have Daniel Jones, Mullens, and McCarthy’

Well actually the only QB we have under contract for 2025 is JJ.
I hope we don’t overpay for Sam and doubt he takes a one year deal.
Jones is hopeful but unknown if he wants to stay or how much he will want.
Keeping Mullins is an option if the others leave, we could do worse I guess.

You’re right SoCal. Only QB under contract is McCarthy. I still doubt Darnold gets anything but a small extension offer from KAM. Same situation as Bynum. KAM prefers extensions to contracts.

Don’t know much about all the money stuff. But do believe there is only one reason to keep Sam, and that is to be the starter. You aren’t keeping him to be a backup. what that means down the road, not sure.

I can see Sam as a one year keep, more as an insurance policy for JJs knee and readiness. Is D. Jones as good and cheaper option?
A tag is still an option but at $30M? It will be an interesting off season.

We shared the track with competitors, support staff, officials, and family (kids included).

There’s a market out there for Bynum. He’s been one of the most reliable secondary players in the league, the last few years. In a word, he’s a proven product, and teams will come after him in free agency. KAM is going to have to fish or cut bait here.

All that said, he’s not worth nearly $18M a year.

Well, you have Javon Holland on the Dolphins, and you have Talanoa Hufanga of the 49ers. Both will probably be at the top of the free agent heap, with Bynum likely coming in a close 3rd. Those would be the top three safeties in my opinion. They will demand top dollar. Then I think Justin Reid of the Chiefs, who would be a good get. After that, Tre’von Moehrig  of the Raiders would be a good pickup.

But recently had a simple Mohs surgery on my forehead. Simple 2.5 inch cut. Woke up in the middle of night and thought someone was stabbing me in the head. So, took three advils and went to sleep. Not manly, but it worked and at the time I valued sleep.

I’m baaaaaccckkkk!

We made some great memories this week with the grandkids. The Give Kids the World Village is awesome and shows that there are some great people in this world. So many people there volunteering to give back so much to families that have gone through so much tragedy. I just can’t say enough about all of the staff and volunteers. They were awesome. Once you walk onto the village, everything is included. Villa, food, playgrounds, some small rides, game rooms, ice cream shop, spa and pool. Every night they had something going on for the kids. One day Disney sent Mickey and Minnie over to meet the kids. They had a Trick or Treat night and a Christmas night where they got to meet Santa and get a present. Everyday when we got back to the villa, there were presents on the chair outside of the front door.

Disney was ok, but it is a massive rip-off. The grandkids enjoyed seeing all of the characters. It was cool on the day that Zeph dressed up as Woody, he got to see Woody and Jessie. There is so much walking and my feet still hurt. The food prices in park are outrageous.

Laughing. Serious golfers track their scores, and use the course difficulty ratings to formulate their handicap. Then they can register their handicap, and it allows them to play other golfers in a competition and level the playing field as it were. For instance, let’s say a couple guys go out and play for money. One guy is a 5 handicap, and the other is a 10. The 5 handicapper would give 5 strokes to the 10 handicapper, to make the competition “even”. The 10 handicapper would then get a free stroke on each of the five hardest holes.

I have never done the work to track my scores, and go through the rigors of computing my handicap. I normally shoot in the mid 80’s which would probably make me around a 13 handicap. I play golf for fun and as a social event though, so I could care less about tracking “how good I am”.

Yes, like a bowling average, but since courses aren’t the same (like a bowling alley) you have to factor in the course difficulty ratings, when computing your handicap.

I think KOC will tell him, “if it’s not there, throw it away”. He will set McCarthy up to succeed. Simple route combinations that are QB 101 throws. The old 77 route concept, the stick with the under, etc. Easy reads, easy throws. Nothing really complex. Blend in more complicated stuff as he moves forward.

There were plenty of times he had the option to step up because the IOL did hold but instead he always tries to escape back and right and turns a 3-5 yard sack into a 12 yard sack.

I always say, if the throw’s not there, the QB has to hold the ball. KOC likes to run long developing route combinations, and of course, the receivers are supposed to read the defense, and adjust their routes mid flight. That makes QB’s indecisive, because they don’t know where the receivers are going. I personally felt Darnold did pretty well with KOC’s scheme. One of the most complex, and difficult to run, in the NFL.

This passing scheme has done quite well in 22, 23 and 24. It’s one of the best. Would like to see improvement in IOL, but even without passing game should be fine. JJ may learn fast or slowly, but either way he’s got to learn it.

I started a round like that once. I was playing one of the club employees in league. He had to give me 10 shots and through 5 holes I was up by 1 straight up and 2 under. It started raining 3 or 4 holes in and he started calling the clubhouse to see if they’d cancelled the night yet.

I have had a few rounds in my life where I started hot for 3 or 4 holes, then came back down to earth. Today I was just striping the ball, and putted beautifully. Lagged the ball from distance nicely, and just had tap in pars all day. This course isn’t real long, but it has water and bunkers everywhere, and several holes are surrounded by lakes and swamp.

Knock the ball down the fairway from the tee, knock it up around the green with my second shot, pitch or chip it decently close, one putt, or two putt from there.

I have been trying to focus on getting my my left hand to feel like it’s “covering” the ball at impact more, if that makes sense to you. Kind of feeling pressure on the back of my left hand at the bottom. I was making such pure contact today doing that. I have been a decent ball striker the last 15 years or so, but I never compressed the ball. Today I hit every iron shot flush, and it felt like I was really compressing the ball. I also pured my driver too. I started focusing on the bottom of the swing at a spot well before the ball, and I hit some spectacular drives today. I wasn’t looking at the ball at all. I was looking at a spot on the ground about 4 or 5 inches behind it.

I play golf as a social event mostly. Score doesn’t matter much, unless I have one of those days where I can’t hit the ground with my hat, and missing shots that are normally quite simple. In general, my wedge play is probably the strength of my game, so just knocking it off the tee, knock it up somewhere around the green, then pitch it to within 10 feet is my game. This is what I call “good enough” golf. I’m not a great player, I’m just decent, and I don’t go for shots I can only pull off once in a 100 tries. I’ll lay up 30 yards short of a green, just to avoid trouble. Then take a sand wedge or 60 degree, and pitch it on.

Yep, got to let it marinate a bit before jumping on anything.

I am noticing a lot of zero-sum thinking going on with some of my Facebook friends. Person X does something. One minute later they are posting about the disasters it will cause.

I just want to say, “You know, a sliding scale can exist. Any action Person X takes doesn’t have to go from 0 to disaster in 30 seconds. If you let it marinate a bit, maybe there are even benefits that could happen.”

But, what is the use? They are around-the-bend, and I have no issue displaying zero-sum thinking on that analysis at this point.
