In all likelihood the Vikings 2023 season will end Sunday. Their season could be extended if GB, Seattle, and one of NO or TB all lose and the Vikings win, but let’s be real, there’s an incredibly small chance the Vikings win and and even smaller chance that all those other teams lose. 2023 has been a disappointing season from the start with a loss at home to an incredibly mediocre TB team, and just got worse as the season went along, especially after Kirk went down with a season ending total rupture of his Achilles tendon. Its a big unknown what the front office will do this offseason, will they re-sign Kirk and continue the “competitive rebuild”, enter a total rebuild and move on from all the high priced players more than or around 30, or just move on from Kirk and try to continue to be “competitive”?

I love it! I still say though if that stiff arm to the face is legal (which is should be) defense contacting an offensive players face (not grab and turning) should also be legal. But it’s almost always a face mask. Shit needs to be both ways.

My AFC squad: Buffalo – Bills Mafia may be the only fanbase that can truly empathize with Vikings fans. 0-4 in the Owl. Buffalo once went 18 years without a playoff appearance. Honestly, they may have had it worse than anyone, including Minnesota.
My NFC squad: Rams – can’t pick the Lions. Don’t care that their fanbase has also suffered. I’ve always liked Stafford and still get sick when I think of Zimmer passing on Aaron Donald to take Tony Barr.

while i feel for the bills, i don’t care if they have never won etc….. i think my AFC team is the Ravens. Lamar is just super fun to watch…
I like Baltimore too – but that’s too easy. They’re probably the best team in football and probably going to the owl. Don’t hate them. But unless it’s Minnesota I’ll never root for a 1 seed. Unless they play FTP.

I have always said I cheer for the Lions if they are in the playoffs and the Vikings aren’t. Just never met that ass hole Lions fan like every other team haha, I like cheering for that underdog story. With that said… Packers. Have to cheer for Tucker. I wore a Packer jersey to US Bank Stadium last week, but I was head to toe Vikings gear otherwise haha. Spent the day with his fam. Is what it is… I hope he gets traded! haha.

In the NFC I hate fuck the packers, Dallas, fuck the saints, and the shiteaters, I’m ok with LA, I can’t cheer for any other teams in the NFCN, though if I did it would be Det, TB I could not care less about, they’re probably the most uninspiring team to possibly make the playoffs. That leaves me with SF, who has several players I like and the team and HC aren’t total douchebags, I also like seeing Mr. Irrelevant being successful as QB1.

From reading posts here for some tine now it seems the concept of “competitive rebuild” is not held in high favor or all that positively. Am I interpreting this correctly?
Yeah, going somewhere between 7-10 and 10-7, making the playoffs sometimes only to choke or get curb stomped early in the playoffs is getting old.
That is true. But believe this is similar to the idea “good is the enemy of great.”
Believe it’s pretty well documented how to properly go from good to great. In fact there’s a wonderful book on how to do it.
Now, of course, any type of “rebuilt” – total or not – will fail if not done properly. Maybe thinking execution is more improvement.

The Legion of Boom was not created by fiat. They went out and drafted the exact type of players to play the defense they wanted to play. they did not get the players and say oh well what kind of defense do we want to play.

Those first 3 picks would be filthy. Nubin is a playmaking stud. Newton would be an immediate upgrade and McCarthy is my favorite QB in this draft. The Henderson pick isn’t terrible either, Mattison isn’t the guy and Chandler not great in pass pro.
Yeah, after the first two rounds I don’t know much about guys unless they play in the Big Ten, especially the Gophers, but Newton was a game wrecker impact player in college.
Can confirm. He was a force in the NU/Illini game – Huskers won that game 20-7 but he basically forced them to run stretches and tosses to the outside. Completely controlled the interior.

We got exactly what we expected out of him. Guys an elite blocker who can catch when asked.
Also, Bradbury is playing about as good as you can expect out of him.
He’s been up and down this year.
And was especially awful against the Packers, with a pass blocking score in the single digits.
But he also had some really decent games too. Especially early on.
Lowry and Davenport were a waste though.

If this season is it for Harrison I will be a bit sad, he’s been the most consistent player on this team pretty much every year he’s played here. He’d definitely a hall of famer, I can’t think of a single safety better than him for about a 6-7 year stretch in his prime.

I don’t think Flores is going anywhere unless BB leaves NE, I could see that being the one job he and the team would fit. His lawsuit complicates things and defensive coaches aren’t getting hired at nearly the rate of offensive guys. More than likely he comes back IMO.

This feels accurate to me as well. Especially considering the way the defense has been exposed the last few weeks. I think we keep him for one more year.
What he’s accomplished over the course of the entire season is impressive when you consider the level of “talent” on the defense.
Completely agree – he did a phenomenal job. The lack of another bonafide playmaker was glaring at the end. Curious what he can do if Minnesota is able to get him some talent in FA/Draft for that side of the ball.

Doesn’t surprise me, I couldn’t tell you the last time an interior lineman made any sort of pressure, sack, or batted pass, which is an underrated skill that absolutely none of the current DTs have. Kevin Williams had a ton of them in addition to pressures and sacks. The Vikings haven’t had anyone like that since he left.

Nix, well Oregon QBs seem to be very productive in college but suck ass in the NFL, Mariota was very similar to Nix in that he was also a dual threat kind of QB but has been terrible in the NFL. 2nd or 3rd round for Nix, not first.

Ok Ben, read the Myth series by Robert Asprin. Very funny fantasy series.
If you like some horror or light horror, try any of Robert McCammon’s works pre-2000 ish. One of my favorites is the epic Swan Song.
A series I just recently discovered is the Atlantis series by Thomas Greanias. I have read the first two of the trilogy and have enjoyed them.
If you enjoy the old pulp books, there is an author that is an expert on that type of book and has written some new Tarzan, Doc Savage and Sherlock Holmes stories (he was authorized by the respective copyright holders). His name is Will Murray. Some of his works are a little spotty, however he mostly does a great job. He also ghost wrote some of the Destroyer series.
If your taste are more towards literature, you should check out The Library of America. They have an extensive library of American authors with a wide range of subjects. I have collected a lot of those. One of the series that I particularly enjoyed was American Sermons: The Pilgrims to Martin Luther King Jr. They have authors from Twain to Lovecraft to Hammett to Poe to Longfellow (a whole collection of poems which is rather interesting) to Hemingway and a ton more.
If you are in to more collectible books, try the Folio Society out of London. They have all of the Ian Fleming Bond books bound in cloth and encased in a slipcase. They have a reward winning artist that illustrated the books with some striking images.
That’s probably enough to get you started.

I notice there is no love for Roger Zelazny. He was one of my favorites back in the day.
Lord of Light, specifically, and some of his short stories.
I’m not a big fantasy reader but I did read a lot of Asprin’s works. I am also rebuilding my Thieves World series as I lost those in the flood also. Piers Anthony also has a lot of good stuff.
Yes, I remember finding a first edition of “But What of Earth?”. At Uncle Hugo’s bookstore as a teenager.
Sad to say it ended up at half price books 25 years later.

I meant more like positive impact but you’re right. My overall point though is that the Vikings have a dearth of players able to make impact plays, you’ve got JJ and I guess cousins kind of Hunter but when was the last time he had a sack or strip sack say a critical time? Harrison made some big plays at critical moments early in the season but hasn’t since the Carolina game. Go back a few years and you had Thielen Diggs cook Kendricks Smith Hunter etc
Never really going anywhere until we get some high quality players on the defense.
There are some solid players like Pace and Bynum, but nobody really makes any big plays on a regular basis.
I’d say Metellus – outside of Hunter. He’s had some big stops, timely turnovers. Also gotten burned in coverage.
Yeah, once in a while he’ll make a big play one way or the other, I like him though
